Part criminal, part storyteller, and part myth. Mark “Chopper” Read is one of Australia’s most polarising figures. Today, we dive into the life and legacy of the man behind the legend. From a violent childhood and years in Pentridge Prison to bestselling books, stage shows, and the iconic film portrayal by Eric Bana, Chopper’s story is as chaotic as it is captivating. Was he a violent criminal, a folk hero, or just a master manipulator of his own narrative? Journalist and author Mark Dapin, who once featured in a Chopper tale himself, joins us to explore the truth, the fiction, and everything in between. When Maggie and Paul Murdaugh are killed on their family's estate in 2021, the investigation unravels a history of privilege, corruption, and suspicious deaths tied to one of South Carolina's most influential families. But beneath the headlines and courtroom drama are stories of people who never got justice, mysteries still unsolved, and a justice system that let one family operate above the law for nearly a century. As appeals move forward and the possibility of a new trial looms, one question remains – why would a man who had everything risk it all by brutally murdering his own family? Additional infoStephen SmithIn 2023, South Carolina law enforcement officially declared Stephen Smith's death a homicide, rather than a traffic accident, but still, it's never been fully explained and no one has ever been arrested in connection with it. Jeffrey Epstein's plane, infamously nicknamed the “Lolita Express,” was less a private jet and more a flying fortress of depravity. Flight logs showed that it ferried not just Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, but also a steady parade of young women and high-profile guests who had no business cozying up to a convicted predator. The plane wasn't about travel—it was about insulation. It gave Epstein a mobile kingdom where rules didn't apply, where the company of billionaires and politicians blurred with the exploitation of victims in the back. Every takeoff was another reminder of how unchecked wealth allows the powerful to turn luxury into a weapon. The plane became a symbol of Epstein's entire operation: access, privilege, and abuse stitched together at 40,000 feet. The passenger lists alone made headlines, dragging the names of presidents, princes, and moguls into the spotlight. For Epstein, it was a perfect tool—not just to shuttle people between his properties, but to compromise them, entangle them, and keep them close. Survivors described it as both a cage and a stage, where exploitation played out under the hum of jet engines. In the end, the “Lolita Express” wasn't just Epstein's preferred method of travel; it was proof of how brazenly he flaunted his crimes, confident that his powerful passengers would protect him rather than expose him.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

Jeffrey Epstein's so-called “black book” was less a contact list and more a grotesque monument to power shielding power. It wasn't filled with your everyday acquaintances; it was a who's who of billionaires, politicians, royalty, celebrities, and Wall Street heavyweights—names that had no business being in the same Rolodex as a convicted sex offender. The book exposed just how deep Epstein's tentacles reached, how many doors he could knock on, and how many influential people were willing to at least tolerate, if not outright embrace, his presence. Whether every name in there was complicit or simply embarrassed by association, the sheer scale of it laid bare how Epstein weaponized access to the elite as both shield and currency. The real stench of the black book wasn't just who was in it, but what it represented: a roadmap of complicity and cowardice. It proved that Epstein didn't thrive in isolation—he thrived because powerful people answered his calls, opened their homes, and boarded his planes. It's a reminder that the “Epstein problem” wasn't just Epstein; it was the system of enablers, gatekeepers, and opportunists who kept him socially viable long after his crimes were known. Send us a textOnes Ready sits down with Morgan Lerette —author of Guns, Girls, and Greed—to talk about life as a Blackwater mercenary during the chaos of Iraq and Afghanistan. From getting recruited as a broke Air Guard kid, to standing on flight lines wondering if forklifts win Bronze Stars, to suddenly pulling convoys through Route Irish with Navy SEALs and Rangers, Morgan lays it all out: the absurd, the grim, and the downright sketchy. We dive into the wild days of unarmored Peugeots with body armor for window panels, hooker stories from Jordan, and the not-so-fun reality of PMCs running missions with zero backup. And just when you're laughing at zebra-striped POW underwear, Morgan drops the hammer on the modern PMC industry moving kids across the border. Buckle up—this one goes from hilarious to horrifying in record time. We're back after our summer holidays and kicking off the second half of season 3 by looking at a particular Washington-based developer that we've looked at many times before, Sucker Punch Productions. After chatting about two-thirds of their raccoon trilogy on this very podcast, we're taking a look at something that is much more recent, much more grown-up, much more samurai. We're going back to 2020 to take a look at an open-world, action-adventure game set during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. We're talking Ghost of Tsushima. On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we chat a little bit about tourism, whether Akira Kurosawa mode is just a black and white filter and nothing more, and there's what some people are calling “a surprising amount of Infamous chat”, too. We also look at how they tried to balance authenticity with audience expectation, finishing a game during a global pandemic, and there's a heated discussion about wind. Here are some of the things you're gonna hear us chat about in our review: outrageously quick load times; stealth that encourages speed over patience; some very enjoyable, very familiar outpost-clearing; the power of Focused Hearing; loads of tall grass; the feeling of a sequel to Assassin's Creed 2; being hated by samurai as you fling kunai, wind chimes, and sticky bombs about; undercover Batman; sword-fighting that feels like accessible Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, whilst also engaging the player with a number of different things to consider; no lock on; announcing your arrival at the beginning of a fight; taking on one other opponent in a duel; running after foxes, slicing bamboo, and one or two other things that are absolutely everywhere on this very large map; an uninspired grappling hook; an island that is too big for some and the right size for others; Samuel Taylor Coleridge; Ishikawa's student; a plot that would've worked better in a more linear game; using Ghost tactics and feeling completely fine; and our clothing choices. After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Ghost of Tsushima is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Amnesia: The Dark Descent on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS
