Max Henson of Panthers.com joins the crew to talk training camp battles, the right side of the offensive line and how media narratives get shaped. If you want to skip right to the Panthers talk, skip past the first 13 minutes, but be warned - you'll be missing out on the best Mexican food in Charlotte and why Colin is a sucker for 'White Gold'. Once the Panthers talk starts though, the crew talks whether fans are writing off Greg Little too fast, how Ross Cockrell vs. Rashaan Gaulden isn't as set in stone as you think and how the team website has changed over the years and the palpable feeling of change that happens on a daily basis with David Tepper as owner of the Panthers. They'll also touch on Will Grier, why right now is the perfect time for optimism, Greg Van Roten and Matt Paradis, who they think will be the starting nickel corner - shrug emoji? - and why it smells a certain way inside the Roaring Riot Podcast Studio. All that, plus Word Association! GoVols247's Wes Rucker, Patrick Brown and Ryan Callahan went into Fort Rucker Studio to preview the NFL Draft through a University of Tennessee lens. This season's Tennessee draft class isn't a huge one, at least by the standards of a program that's traditionally one of the NFL's richest pipelines, but at least a couple of Vols should hear their name called by the end of the annual seven-round, three-day spectacle. Multiple Tennessee players elected to forego their final seasons of eligibility under a new coach and declared for the draft, and two of those players — defensive back Rashaan Gaulden and running back John Kelly — are widely expected to be drafted at some point. Aside from that, though, it might be a quiet few days for the Vols. Some mock drafts feature other Tennessee players — defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie, cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, and/or tight end Ethan Wolf — and it wouldn't be shocking to see any of them come off the board. Several other Vols will at least be signed to free-agent contracts after the draft. This episode features anything and everything related to the Vols heading into an event that always shoves itself into the center of the sports universe. Learn more about your ad choices. (0:00) The world’s on fire as Tua Tagovailoa went down with a thumb injury and the Alabama QB competition may be open again. But without very many healthy bodies, could this be an area of concern for Bama? (22:19) After putting out that fire, we whip around the conference for some updates from around spring, including Georgia reloading and Joe Moorhead’s “Chipotle Offense.” Of course, we had to power rank the best fast foot restaurants of all time. (32:32) Then the guys tackle March Madness, and their somehow excellent brackets despite all the chaos. Some SEC teams fell flat, while others have dominated, What did we learn about the conference in the first week of the Tourney? (40:04) Connor comes through with some Rat Poison, as the guys examine Alabama’s stellar record over unranked teams. (50:06) In It Means Too Much, the guys look at how Tennessee’s Rashaan Gaulden’s double middle fingers during the Bama game could affect his draft stock. Plus, the petty war between Alabama and UCF has taken a step forward with some shots being fired over a women’s NIT game.
Tennessee DB Rashaan Gaulden took time out of his preparation for the 2018 NFL Draft to talk with Connor Livesay. Every year there is a guy that is "off the radar" insofar as the average fan but has NFL Scouts salivating. Meet Rashaan Gaulden, defensive back, Tennessee. Gaulden is a football player. He's not a cornerback. He's not a safety. He's not an in-the-box thumper. He's not a ballhawk who won't get physical. The man can play on the outside, the inside, up close or over the top. He can excel at every one of them. The man can line-up anywhere in the back seven and has a nose for the ball. Playmaker. "I take pride each week in eliminating my one-on-one matchup each week." - Rashaan Gaulden DB A guy who should excel in the slot at the next level he obviously thrives on game day competition. Line him up wherever you want, kick back and let this guy compete. Then take time to enjoy the show. A gym-rat and alpha-dog this is a team player who will have an impact on the field and in the locker room. You want guys like this on your football team. Intelligent, thoughtful and focused Rashaan covers his career through the combine prep. Connor walks him through his 2015 injury to the present and it's a fun trip down memory lane. Livesay keeps it real, puts things in perspective and gives you an "up close" picture of a "top NFL Draft Prospect" for 2018. GoVols247's Wes Rucker, Patrick Brown and Danny Parker went into Fort Rucker Studio to break down the performance of incoming Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt and incoming Tennessee defensive coordinator Kevin Sherrer in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Pruitt (as Alabama's defensive coordinator) and Sherrer (as Georgia's outside linebackers coach) will square off for the national championship after the Crimson Tide's win over Clemson and Georgia's win over Oklahoma on New Year's Day. How should Tennessee fans feel about Pruitt and Sherrer finishing the season with Alabama and Georgia? Do the pros outweigh the cons? And which couple of coaches will Pruitt hire to fill out his first Tennessee staff? Those questions — as well as the impact of Rashaan Gaulden's decision to declare for the NFL Draft — are discussed throughout this week's Friday Pod. Learn more about your ad choices.
