I want to alert you, so you don’t miss out on expert analysis and insider perspectives from my guests who provide tips that can help you uplift the community, improve your financial planning, motivation, or advice on how to be a successful entrepreneur. Keep winning! Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning, television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Kevin Cohee.Title: Owner, Chairman & CEO of OneUnited BankHost: Rushion McDonaldPodcast: Money Making Conversations Masterclass Kevin Cohee discusses the mission, history, and future of OneUnited Bank, the largest Black‑owned bank and the first Black‑owned internet bank in the U.S. The conversation connects Black economic history, financial literacy, technology (AI), and wealth-building, positioning OneUnited Bank as a modern solution to long‑standing financial exclusion in Black and underserved communities. Purpose of the Interview The interview is designed to: Educate listeners on why Black-owned banks matter historically and economically. Explain how technology has transformed banking, making location irrelevant. Address financial exclusion, particularly reliance on check-cashing services. Promote financial literacy as the foundation of wealth creation. Position OneUnited Bank as a practical, accessible tool for individuals, entrepreneurs, and communities to build equity. Key Themes & Takeaways 1. A Mission Rooted in Black History Kevin Cohee frames OneUnited Bank as part of a long historical vision, not a modern trend. Leaders such as Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. all advocated for a national Black-owned bank. Cohee’s own family legacy ties back to Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, including land ownership stemming from negotiated “40 acres and a mule” outcomes. Takeaway: Economic independence has always been central to Black progress. 2. From Brick-and-Mortar to Digital Banking OneUnited originally grew by acquiring small Black-owned banks nationwide. The bank pivoted early toward technology-driven banking, recognizing that: Customers expect 24/7 access Physical branches are no longer required Digital reach enables national—and global—impact Key insight: Technology allowed OneUnited to become a national Black bank without national branches. 3. Financial Technology Built for Real-Life Problems Kevin Cohee emphasizes that OneUnited designs products around how people actually live, not just traditional banking norms. Examples include: Second-chance checking accounts Emergency small-dollar loans Alternative credit criteria Nationwide surcharge-free ATM access AI-powered tools that help users understand: Cash flow Assets vs. liabilities Net worth (or debt) Financial decision-making in real time Takeaway: Banking should help people function—not punish them for past mistakes. 4. Financial Literacy Is the Real Wealth Gap Cohee states that 90% of Americans are financially illiterate, largely because: Financial literacy is not taught in K–12 education He compares this to not teaching reading—and then blaming people for illiteracy. OneUnited uses AI and data aggregation to help customers make expert-level decisions without being experts. Key message: Financial literacy, not income alone, determines long-term wealth. 5. Ending Dependence on Check-Cashing Services Kevin sharply criticizes high-fee check-cashing businesses that dominate underserved neighborhoods. OneUnited offers digital check deposits, debit cards, and ATM access—removing the need for physical branches. Anyone, anywhere in the U.S., can bank with OneUnited via oneunited.com. Takeaway: Lack of access is no longer an excuse—awareness is the missing link. 6. Technology as the New “40 Acres” Kevin draws a powerful parallel: Land ownership was once the primary source of wealth. Technology and financial literacy are today’s equivalents. Entrepreneurs no longer need to manufacture products—branding, distribution, and digital reach are the new leverage. Key insight: Technology levels the playing field—if people understand how to use it. 7. Mandatory Financial Literacy as a Policy Solution Kevin advocates for required financial literacy courses in all U.S. schools. He cites research showing: One required high-school financial literacy course can generate $100,000+ in lifetime net worth per student. He frames this as a matter of equity, not preference. Takeaway: Systemic problems require systemic solutions. Notable Quotes “The concept of a national Black-owned bank goes all the way back to slavery.” “We’re not behind in technology—we are the party.” “Ninety percent of Americans are not financially literate.” “You don’t have to go to check cashers and get ripped off.” “Technology is the new 40 acres.” “Financial literacy alone can generate over $100,000 in net worth per person.” “There has never been a better time to build a business than right now.” Overall Impact This interview is both a financial masterclass and a historical lesson. Kevin Cohee reframes banking as a tool of empowerment, not just transactions, and positions OneUnited Bank as: A modern solution to historic exclusion A technology-first institution built for underserved communities A catalyst for financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and wealth creation Final message: Access + education + technology can finally close the racial wealth gap—if people choose to engage. #SHMS #STRAW #BESTSupport the show: https://www.steveharveyfm.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, Chris sits down with Austin Tunnell, founder of Building Culture - a real estate development and design-build company based in Oklahoma City specializing in structural masonry construction and walkable, mixed-use urban infill. Austin's path to real estate is one of the more unusual ones we've had on the show. He grew up a football player in the suburbs of Houston, went to work at KPMG out of college, hated it, and joined the Peace Corps. A chance meeting with a master mason in Panama changed the trajectory of his life. He returned to the US and apprenticed for two years laying brick by hand for $12 an hour in rural Oklahoma while his wife cleaned houses to support them. Today Austin designs and develops some of the most beautiful residential and mixed-use projects being built in America, including an 18-townhome, live-work, and mixed-use commercial project currently underway in downtown Edmond, Oklahoma. Chris and Austin go deep on Austin's philosophy of beauty, the case for building things meant to last hundreds of years, and the policy, financing, and culture obstacles standing in the way. We discuss: - How a chance meeting with a master mason in Panama changed the trajectory of Austin's life - The difference between veneer brick and true structural masonry, and why almost no one in the US builds the real thing anymore - Why Austin believes beauty is real, beauty is important, and beauty "connects us to the divine" - Five simple brick details any developer can use to make a veneer building look dramatically better for almost no added cost - How fire codes, building codes, and Euclidean zoning quietly destroy neighborhoods and push developers toward the same ugly apartment complexes - Austin's long-term-hold model for funding new construction infill, inspired by Moses Kagan and ReSeed - Missing middle housing, walkability, and why a 30-unit townhome neighborhood can feel more like home than any class-A apartment building About the guest: Austin Tunnell is the founder of Building Culture, an Oklahoma City-based real estate development and design-build firm focused on beautiful, durable, human-scale neighborhoods. There's a clique of plutocratic, high-tech billionaires who think they're entitled to turn America's farmlands and rural communities into their personal domain of predatory AI “data centers.” But a little bookstore in Tulsa, Oklahoma, recently hit those puffed-up elites where they're most vulnerable: The funny bone.Magic City Books put up a sign that rocketed through the Internet, mocking the fatuous potentates:SUPPORT THESE DATA CENTERSSchoolsLibrariesBookstoresArrogantly, though, the likes of Amazon, Google, and Meta are frontloading trillions of dollars into creating a new social order managed by super-intelligent bots. This scheme, however, requires them to divert vast amounts of rural land, water, and energy to build and run their Orwellian empires. Yet, breathing the fumes of their own egos, the billionaires actually assumed that locals would welcome this dazzling bot wonderworld.Bad assumption. Even in bastions of rural Republican rule, majorities are saying, “Uh… Hell No!” Indeed, at least 48 data centers were stopped last year by coordinated local opposition, and public fury has largely driven data center developers out of Illinois, Michigan, Oregon, and Wisconsin. In Texas, corrupt governor Greg Abbott openly takes AI cash to push data centers, yet rural counties are rejecting them – and the state's far-right Republican Party has now voted to oppose building more of them.Even Wall Street money managers are blinking, for there's growing doubt that investors can get their money back. What's happening is that the billionaire hucksters have run head-first into the rock-solid political belief that The People get to decide our common destiny, not a handful of techno-scammers.Jim Hightower's Lowdown is a reader-supported publication. The Seminole Nation of Oklahoma is one of the first tribes to pass a moratorium against the construction of hyperscale data centers. The nearby Muscogee Nation also turned down an opportunity to build a data center after Muscogee citizens spoke out in force against the plan. Large tech companies are stepping up the pressure to build hyperscale data centers to house the processing power for data storage and generative AI. The federal government is providing incentives for tribes to get involved in this part of the tech boom. It is part of the Trump administration's push to unleash American technological power, but such facilities typically require a lot of power and water. Native environmentalists warn data center companies are only looking to take advantage of tribes' sovereignty and resources. GUESTS Cheyenne McNeill (Coharie), editorial fellow at Mother Jones Jordan Harmon (Muscogee), policy specialist at Indigenous Environmental Network Ashley Leitka (Absentee Shawnee Tribe and Oglala Lakota), co-director of the sovereignty and self-determination department for Honor The Earth Dr. Karen Jarratt Snider (Choctaw), professor of applied Indigenous studies at Northern Arizona University

Photo: U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. speaks to Native American leaders gathered at Gila River Indian Community's Wild Horse Pass Casino on April 8, 2026. (Caitlin Sievers / Arizona Mirror) Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made a stop in the Phoenix, Ariz. metro area to visit the Gila River Indian Community last week. As KJZZ's Gabriel Pietrorazio reports, Sec. Kennedy touted tribal health accomplishments a year into President Donald Trump's second term. Kennedy briefly took the stage at Wild Horse Pass during the annual Tribal Self-Governance Conference. “ We're going to make Indian Country healthy again. Thank you all very, very much.” In his speech, Kennedy talked about making progress on key issues like food sovereignty, chronic disease, and federal dietary guidelines. He, along with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) literally flipped the food pyramid upside down. Tackling staffing shortages and aging infrastructure throughout the entire Indian Health Service (IHS) was another topic. Yet, the now defunct Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) terminated a dozen leases for IHS facilities. This decision was seen as a costs-saving measure to shore up funds tied up in federal office space. And according to data from Stanford’s Big Local News, the U.S. cancelled 121 IHS contracts totaling over $8 million last year. The federal government is encouraging tribes to partner with data centers. That could mean leasing land or, as the Mountain West News Bureau's Hanna Merzbach reports, selling power. At a U.S. Department of Energy webinar, Ken Ahmann with Colusa Indian Energy said that is where the big bucks come in. “ Potentially billions of dollars into the coffers of tribes.” His company provides energy infrastructure to data centers on tribal land. He says these partnerships can be good for tribes that have land and resources to power big projects like the Osage Nation in Oklahoma. Paul Bemore is the chair of the tribe's utility board. “Tribes that are casino-dependent really need to look at other ways to build their economies, and I think data centers is one of those opportunities.” Though Bemore says people may be wary about how this will impact the environment. Other tribes have expressed concerns about data centers draining precious water supplies. The Native Youth Olympic (NYO) games begin this week in Anchorage. The games kick off Thursday at the Alaska Airlines Center, bringing together hundreds of student athletes from across the state. Now in its 54th year, NYO celebrates traditional Alaska Native games rooted in survival skills, strength, and endurance. Events include the one-foot high kick, seal hop, and wrist carry — all designed to test both physical ability and mental toughness. Ann Lawrence is from Point Hope, Alaska and a cultural advisor for Cook Inlet Tribal Council. She says watching the children reunite every year brings her joy. “I love watching the kids participate. You see the friendship has grown over the years. Some of them that have started out as freshman, are graduating from high school, and they're very involved, and it just warms my heart that these kids know that what they're doing here is something that they can share with their future relatives. Maybe as they become parents, grandparents, I think is so important.” The games run through Saturday and are free and open to the public. Get National Native News delivered to your inbox daily. “What Must I DO to Inherit Eternal Life?” Mark‬ ‭10‬:‭17‬-‭31‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Points To Ponder No. 1: No amount of wealth or success can satisfy your soul like Jesus can. Points To Ponder No. 2: Good is a subjective term influenced by a person’s values. I believe Jesus’ point is the only standard of good that matters is what God calls good. Points To Ponder No. 3: Eternal life cannot be earned through self effort. It is a gift from God freely given by grace through faith. He went away sad because he had great possessions. In other words, he treasured his wealth more than his relationship with God. Points To Ponder No. 4: Jesus loved him and wanted him to have the eternal life he desired. So he told him how to attain it. ‭‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Points To Ponder No. 5: Jesus loved him and wanted him to have the eternal life he desired. But the rich young ruler rejected the gift of eternal life because he refused to let go of his first love (earthly treasure) to obtain it. ‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭ESV‬‬

In this episode of Previously On, Jillian and her husband Tyler are breaking down Euphoria Season 2 Episode 3 “Ruminations: Big & Little Bullies.” The episode that gave us some of the most iconic Euphoria memes and Cassie's most unhinged moment yet, the bathroom monologue! This episode is absolutely jam-packed with chaos, secrets, and questionable choices, so in honor of Maddy's iconic line we're counting down our Top 5 “Bitch, You Better Be Joking” Moments from Episode 3. From Rue taking a literal suitcase full of drugs from Laurie (and lying to everyone in her life about it) to the increasingly confusing dynamic between Rue, Jules, and Elliot that has us wondering if this friend group is actually a throuple, every storyline feels like it's heading toward disaster. We also dive into Lexi's bold move to write her life story into a school play, Cassie's descent into full obsession mode over Nate, and Cal's jaw-dropping confession to Fez that leaves us asking… "what kind of weird father-son shit is going on here bro?"Plus, Tyler shares his takes on the episode's chaotic humor, unforgettable side moments, and the many bits that made this episode feel both wildly entertaining and deeply unsettling at the same time. Between Rue burning bridges, Cassie losing herself, and Lexi finally stepping into the spotlight, this episode proves that every character is moving closer to a breaking point. We're dropping a pod recapping every single episode of Euphoria leading up to the April 12th premiere, and then we'll recap each episode of Season 3 weekly. A judge ordered the DA to testify. That alone tells you how this case is going. The Jesse Butler case in Stillwater, Oklahoma has now split open into three simultaneous legal battles — a criminal Marsy's Law challenge that could void his plea deal, a federal civil lawsuit alleging school officials and city employees protected him while a vulnerable student was being assaulted, and ongoing youthful offender supervision with an August expiration date that could erase everything. Butler pleaded no contest to multiple felony sexual assault and strangulation charges against two high school students. He faced up to 78 years. He received community service, counseling, and daily check-ins. His father was a former football operations director at Oklahoma State and an assistant athletic director for the school district. The victims say they were never meaningfully consulted before prosecutors finalized a deal that kept Butler out of prison. Their attorney filed a constitutional challenge. The state tried to dismiss it. The judge rejected the dismissal and scheduled an evidentiary hearing for April 13 — with the DA expected to testify as a witness, not as the prosecutor. Meanwhile, the same office is opposing youthful offender status for another Stillwater teen with less severe charges, and a federal lawsuit has named school officials who allegedly failed to enforce a protective order, intimidated the victim, and told the victim's parents not to hold a school resource officer's friendship with the Butler family against him. Butler turns 19 in August. The clock is running. The victims and their families are the only reason this case is still being examined. April 13 is the moment of truth.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? On this week's episode, The Imprint's Nancy Marie Spears sits down with reporter Suzette Brewer to discuss her recent two-part series on the tragic past and promising future of birth justice for the Native American community. The series examines the use of sterilization on Indigenous women, a practice many believe was intended to facilitate the dying out of tribes, and the more recent efforts to build a birth justice movement in the Native American community. Spears and Brewer discuss how the series came together over the course of a decade and what Brewer discovered. They also had time to chat about their reporter careers and the Indian Child Welfare Act.Suzette Brewer is a journalist specializing in federal Indian law and social justice, with a focus on issues affecting Native women and children. She has reported extensively on the Indian Child Welfare Act, the U.S. Supreme Court, Native voting rights, environmental justice in Indian Country, and the opioid crisis. Brewer is a recipient of the Richard LaCourse–Gannett Foundation Al Neuharth Investigative Journalism Award, a John Jay/Tow Juvenile Justice Reporting Fellow, and a 2024 National Fellow with the USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism. She is a member of the Cherokee Nation and is from Stilwell, Oklahoma.Reading RoomFor Centuries, Native Women Have Been Told to ‘Trust the Doctor.' Over the past two weeks, you've heard the first two parts of Andrew Dixon's story. In Part 1, we explored Andrew's early life in Oklahoma and the complicated family history that followed him into adulthood. After moving to New Mexico, Andrew built a life and became a father, but by 2025, that stability had begun to unravel. He was struggling with addiction, his relationship had ended, and a legal situation left him temporarily unable to see his daughter, something that deeply affected him.In Part 2, we focused on the days leading up to his disappearance. Andrew appeared increasingly fearful, telling others he believed he was being watched or followed. Some saw this as paranoia fueled by substance use, while others weren't so sure.On July 28, 2025, Andrew was last seen in Truth or Consequences. By the next day, both he and his roommate's Toyota Camry were gone. Andrew was reported missing on July 30.As Detective Jeffers began working the case, he uncovered digital evidence and interviewed those close to him, but one major detail remained unknown. The car Andrew had been driving had actually been located shortly after he disappeared; it just hadn't yet been connected to Andrew. In this episode, we examine where that car was found, what was located inside, and how that discovery changed the direction of the case.If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Andrew Dixon, please contact the Truth or Consequences Police Department at 575-894-7111.If you have a missing loved one that you would like to have featured on the show, please fill out our case submission form.Follow The Vanished on social media at:FacebookInstagramPatreonSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
