Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt signed a law banning student cellphone use in public schools during class time starting in the 2025–2026 school year, with the rule becoming optional for districts the year after. The bill, Senate Bill 139, aims to reduce distractions, bullying, and learning issues linked to phones, following similar policies in some Oklahoma districts and other states. Although many lawmakers and educators backed the move for its potential to improve student behavior, it passed without overwhelming support.

The Southeastern 16 crew reacts to Friday night SEC baseball action, including: Tennessee's Liam Doyle and Vanderbilt's JD Thompson faced off in a premier pitching matchup, but Doyle got the edge in a 3-2 win thanks to huge defensive plays from Hunter Ensley. Auburn swept South Carolina in a doubleheader, including a Game 1 walk-off safety squeeze bunt. Chris Rembert, Eric Guevarra, Cooper McMurray, Bub Terrell and Lucas Steele (twice) all homered for Auburn on Friday, which won despite not getting a usual Sam-Dutton like appearance from its ace. The Tigers are now in prime position to host one weekend, if not two, in the NCAA tournament. Kentucky needs a series win and got off to a great start, beating Kyson Witherspoon and Oklahoma on Friday thanks to great relief from Jackson Nove and a Cole Hage home run. Easton Carmichael homered for Oklahoma. Texas hosts Florida, looking to rebound from its first series loss of the year last weekend. The Gators jumped on Texas early, scoring six runs before the Longhorns got a second out. PIerce Coppola started for Florida while Ruger Riojas was roughed up for Texas. Ole Miss's Hunter Elliott and Mississippi State's Pico Kohn battles in a rivalry series with big implications for both sides. Elliott got the best of Kohn in Game 1 as Jud Utermark, Austin Fawley, Colin Reuter and Ryan Moerman each homered. Georgia and Alabama played a doubleheader a series that could have national-seeding and hosting implications for both sides. The Bulldogs got six home runs, including two from Kolby Branch, in a 19-3 rout in Game 1. Texas A&M looks to take another step towards an NCAA tournament bid in its series with Missouri. Arkansas's Zach Root and LSU's Kade Anderson facing off in Baton Rouge in a premier pitching matchup. (Or did they? The game was in a rain delay at stream start time.) In this episode, Jenn and I are thrilled to welcome William Parker! A longtime educator from Oklahoma who transitioned into full-time consulting, speaking, and writing, Will is the author of "Messaging Matters" and his new book, "Whose Permission Are You Waiting For?: An Educator's Guide to Doing What You Love" Will shares how his new book, born from coaching conversations with high-achieving leaders at crossroads, is designed to help educators think through career options, get out of ruts, and reconnect with their joy. We dive into key concepts from the book, including: • Avoiding the Binary: Why you don't always have just two options and how to explore multiple pathways. • The Power of Curiosity and Inquiry: How asking questions and reaching out to experts leads to discovery. • Idea to Action: Moving from thinking to doing with intentionality and achievable goals. • Goal Setting and Reflection: The importance of looking back to learn and setting goals for the future across all parts of your life. • Whose Permission Are You Waiting For?: Identifying yourself as your biggest obstacle and realizing you often only need your own permission to take the next step towards what you want. • Figuring Out What You Want: Practical exercises like the 'Doing, Not Doing, Want to Do, Don't Want to Do' framework. Join us to explore how to give yourself permission to dream, inquire, and rediscover the joy of learning in your career. As always, send your comments, questions, and show ideas to mike@schoolleadershipshow.com. Consider rating the podcast in iTunes and leaving a comment. Tara Westover's memoir, Educated, grabs me hard because her story resonates so deeply with mine. So today I use both of our stories to explore mental abuse or epistemic abuse—attacking the mind of another, trying to control how and what they think. It's key to authoritarianism. And we explore the 2000-year-old form of authoritarianism in Western history and how it rests on a religious idea that took hold as Rome was crumbling. The fixes we need today run even deeper than education because the academy too is rooted in authoritarian patterns, as Indigenous thinkers such as Daniel Wildcat (Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma) and Ilarion Merculieff (Unangan) remind us. We need a new worldview—one that begins with the knowing inside us, honoring the waters of life within each one. This episode with my friend Amy Ortloff originally aired in August 2021 with the title Teaching People To Grieve With Me. As part of my effort to highlight the best of my past episodes, I wanted to replay this conversation, which is one of the most important I've ever shared.Content warning: Child loss and suicideIn 2017, Amy Ortloff lost her middle child Ryan to suicide. Ryan was just 17 years old. Less than a week after his death, Amy took to her personal Facebook page and starting sharing every single day. She began by sharing stories about Ryan, family memories and examples of the kind of kid he was. She didn't want her child to be forgotten. As the weeks went by, deep in grief, Amy also started sharing her own experiences of this devastating time she was living through. She shared what she was learning in therapy, she set and shared her personal boundaries for interaction for those in her small town Oklahoma community. Amy's sharing was raw and vulnerable. It was heartbreaking and powerful. I made a point to read her posts every day that first year after Ryan. This episode is about the effects of that real-time sharing during the hardest time of her life, the positive and the negative. Amy was teaching us how to grieve with her, and it made an enormous impact on me long before I ever wrote a book about sharing stuff. If you or someone you know is having suicidal thoughts, please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or text TALK to 741741. Opening Story: Country Mart in Coweta, AmericaHost shares a humorous experience at the Country Mart grocery store in Coweta, Oklahoma, a beloved local spot with no self-checkout and bag boys who carry groceries to cars. After Mass, dressed in a suit, the host is mistaken for a preacher by four different people (a passerby, a deli customer, the cashier, and a bag boy).Jokes about leveraging his "preacher hair" and suit to become the mayor and preacher of Coweta, introducing the concept of "nondenominational Catholic" (a playful term explained as Catholics not being a denomination, derived from Latin de nominae meaning "other name").Reflects on the Christian culture of the store, where such assumptions are a kind gesture.Coweta Anecdote: Natural Family Planning (NFP) StoryHost recounts a family story about his parents, the first NFP teachers in Oklahoma, teaching the Couple to Couple League's symptothermal method.A humorous moment from a class where a participant mispronounced "coitus" as "Coedes," leading to an ongoing family joke about Coweta (pronounced similarly).Mentions his in-laws' involvement in promoting NFP classes and their eventual move to Coweta, tying it to the town's significance.Listener Question: Plenary Indulgence During Sede VacanteListener query: Can a plenary indulgence be received during a sede vacante (when there is no pope), given the condition of praying for the pope's intentions?Hosts ponder without definitive answers, suggesting:Prayer is outside linear time, so praying for the next pope or the recently deceased pope's soul might satisfy the condition.Pope Francis' intentions for the month (published in advance) could still be prayed for.No prayer is wasted; God applies it appropriately, even if the target (e.g., a soul in hell or heaven) cannot benefit.Encourage canon lawyers or experts to clarify, acknowledging their limited knowledge on the topic.Brief mention of Polymarket, a prediction market where bets can be placed on the next pope, highlighting absurd betting trends.Pilgrimage PromotionPromotion of Select International Tours, a long-time sponsor offering pilgrimages to holy sites worldwide for 34 years.Visit selectinternationaltours.com for details on their high-quality tours with excellent hotels and guides.Clarification from Previous EpisodeCorrection from a prior episode about papal eligibility: Any baptized Catholic man can theoretically be elected pope, not just clergy.Hypothetical first act as pope:One host would set a date for Blessed Carlo Acutis' canonization, expected to be a priority for the next pope.Other host jokingly suggests suppressing the Jesuits, quickly clarifying it's a jest, praising Jesuits like Father Mitch Pacwa and noting their potential as Dominicans.Main Topic: Time Management for Catholic DadsIntroduction and Context:Host shares a chaotic day (e.g., a cow in the wrong pasture) to humorously underscore the need for time management, the episode's focus.Aimed at Catholic dads balancing work, family, and prayer life.Philosophical Understanding of Time:Time is a gift from God, not an enemy, akin to grace—available only in the present moment, not to be saved or earned.Avoid the mindset of “just getting past this weekend” to reach holiness; every moment is an opportunity for sanctity through fulfilling one's vocation.Busyness does not equal holiness; faithfulness and resignation to divine providence do.References a conversation with Dr. Carlo Broussard defining time as “the measurement of change,” emphasizing human agency in shaping incremental changes toward...

Two weeks ago, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments on April 30, 2025, about whether Oklahoma can operate the nation's first faith-based charter school. If the Supreme Court decides their way, St. Isidore of Seville would be a virtual, K-12 school run by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Oklahoma City and the Diocese of Tulsa. We should note that a lot of conservatives are with St. Isidore. Alliance Defending Freedom's Jim Campbell was one of the attorneys arguing on behalf of the Oklahoma charter board and the school. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, a Republican supporter of St. Isidore, said the case “stands to be one of the most significant religious and education freedom decisions in our lifetime.” The conservative legal group Liberty Counsel filed an amicus brief in the case, also in favor of St. Isidore. But not everyone – even on the conservative and Christian side of the aisle — is so enthusiastic. David Dockery is the president of the International Alliance for Christian Education. He told MinistryWatch, “IACE does not have an official position on the St Isidore case since we do not have full agreement on this matter among those who serve on the Board.” Dan Burrell is a longtime Christian education leader. Today he serves as a pastor in Charlotte, N.C., and the chairman of the board of MinistryWatch. His experience includes a tenure as president of the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools. He was also a faculty member at Liberty University's graduate school of education. Burrell said he was “pretty strongly opposed” to government-funded religious schools.

With Spring Practice and the Transfer Portal window now in the past, Fox Sports' lead College Football analyst Joel Klatt ranks his Post-Spring Top 25 for the upcoming season. He reveals his #1 team and breaks down how he made his choice out of teams like the defending National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes, an Arch Manning-led Texas Longhorns team and a Penn State squad returning loads of talent on both sides of the ball. He explains how he separated SEC teams like Alabama, Georgia and LSU and includes a surprise pick in his Top 10 that he feels could be this season's Indiana on the way to a Playoff run. Klatt explains why he has confidence in Michigan this season despite the high-end talent that they lost off of last year's roster. On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, WJNO's Brian Mudd fills in for Mark. President Trump nominated former National Security Adviser Mike Waltz as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Waltz began the day as NSA, but the sudden nomination raises questions about whether it was planned or a reaction to an event. The move might be tied to the March Signal app incident, though if part of a broader strategy, naming Secretary of State Marco Rubio as interim NSA seems unusual. Either way, with Senate confirmation looming, Republicans must stand firm to ensure Waltz's appointment to the UN. Also, despite what the media is saying, the economy had a great first quarter. The Democrats are trying everything they can to scare you; all they have is fear. The only thing that led to a negative GDP number was imports. Later, the left's plan for Trump was always lawfare, but Trump knows how to play their lawfare game now. Trump won most of the nationwide injunctions the first time around and he's learned all the lessons. Finally, in St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School v. Drummond, the Supreme Court considered whether the proposed Catholic virtual charter school in Oklahoma could operate as the nation's first publicly funded religious charter school. The Supreme Court must rule in favor of this charter school. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
