The 2025 NFL season is 17 weeks old and with the playoffs right around the corner, a few playoff seedings and spots are still up for grabs. The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Chicago Bears in an offensive shootout to keep their hopes of the NFC's #1 seed alive. Brock Purdy and Caleb Williams traded punches throughout Sunday evening until the 49ers defense stood tall. The Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks knocked off the Carolina Panthers, setting up a week 18 matchup that'll determine the winner of the NFC South. The Philadelphia Eagles held off the Buffalo Bills comeback attempt. Jalen Hurts commanded the first half and Josh Allen owned the second half but it was the Eagles defense that dominated the entire game, allowing the Eagles to stay alive in the race for the NFC's 2nd seed. Send us a textIn this episode of Brewstilled, I'm recapping week 17 for the 2025 NFL season. For week 17, we're one week away from the end of the regular season with the playoffs coming. The Detroit Lions lost to the Vikings as Detroit has now been eliminated from playoff contention. The Cowboys, despite being eliminated from playoff contention, defeated the Washington Commanders on Christmas Day. Yet, the Cowboys are now facing what could be a soap opera-style offseason. The Ravens won against the Packers, but their playoff chances are still slim. Will the Ravens trade Lamar Jackson? The Jaguars won against the Colts as they look to secure the AFC South. Tampa Bay lost again as they now face a winner takes all game against the Panthers set to take place in week 18. I'll be recapping it here on Brewstilled with a Christmas style coffee from Starbucks as the coffee pairing. 

The Seahawks defense put on a clinic against the Panthers, suffocating Carolina's offense and consistently pressuring Bryce Young. The defense limited Young to less than 60 yards through the air and Julian Love picked off Young once. Rico Dowdle actually had more yards on the ground by himself than the entire passing offense. Zach Charbonnet's 122 yards nearly eclipsed the Panthers 139 total yards and his two touchdowns would have been all the offense they needed. Ultimately, the Seahawks 27-10 victory keeps them on pace to win the NFC West and take the top seed heading into the playoffs. There is one unlikely scenario that could lock up the top spot by Tuesday, but a Niners loss to the Bears could make next week's matchup relatively meaningless for San Fran. The Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Florida Panthers 4-2 in a game that saw them take 26 penalties and go on the penalty kill 10 times. Jake Guentzel tied Brandon Hagel for the team lead with 18 goals, Pontus Holmberg scored his 5th goal and Nikita Kucherov got his 61st career game-winning goal. The Lightning's penalty kill went 9-for-10 on the night. Before the game JJ Moser signed an 8-year extension worth $6.75 million AAV. The Seattle Seahawks earned a victory at home over their division rival Los Angeles Rams and now head for the road to close out the final two games of the 2025 regular season.
