Almost every tech platform is designed to grab and hold your attention, to keep you clicking, scrolling, and buying for as long as possible. Sports gambling has become one of the clearest examples of this. The industry has created frictionless apps on your phone that let you bet on everything from March Madness to a pregame coin toss to who wins a minor league British dart tournament. While betting has become easier — and arguably fun — the cost of these apps is much higher than the money that is won and lost on them. Today's guest is Jonathan D. Cohen, author of Losing Big: America's Reckless Bet on Sports Gambling. He and Sean discuss the rise of sports betting, why the industry targets young men in their advertising, the social costs of frictionless sports gambling, and how the industry could be improved. The title says it al! The Hysterics go off on how Coach DeVries and his shiny new squad did in their first public exhibition, while also revisiting the raging debate on just how important Year 1 is in a new coaching tenure. After a historic Year 1 in his own IU coaching tenure, Curt Cignetti's peers ranked his Year 2 team as #19 in the pre-season Coaches Poll, a full 7 spots behind those loathsome Illini who are coming to Bloomington in the not-too-distant future. On deck: (6:30) The team with the best record in MLB is not who you think. History tells us that October hasn't been nice to them over the past seven years. Could this year turn out different for the Milwaukee Brewers? The Yankees avoid another sweep and get out of Texas with a wild card spot in tact. As for Devin Williams pitching in late game pressure situations? The Mets are in a tailspin, losing 8 of 9 after a seven game winning streak. Will their fortunes change as they go to play the Brewers over the weekend? And all of the latest playoff races in baseball to date. (39:10) NFL preseason opens a full slate a games this week while the league's TV network gets sold to the Worldwide Leader in Sports. Is that a good thing? Plus, the league wants nothing to do with issuing smelling salt to players, during practices or games, but players can purchase them on their own. Could there be long term effects and repercussions because of it? I'll check in on whatever else is happening throughout training camp as of late. (50:06) Who is the preseason #1 in college football as the season is a little more than three weeks away? (52:47) March Madness will not expand in 2026, but the possibility of having 72 or 76 teams in the tournament in 2027 could happen. Why having more doesn't mean better if this were to become official? (55:38) The first of three matchups in nine days commences on Sunday between the WNBA Finalists of last year (Lynx & Liberty) Will this be a showcase as to who is the better team in a possible championship rematch in late September? Another Wednesday…coming up! Should be decent today before some showers & thunderstorms move into the area tomorrow. In the news this morning, a debate about the water bubblers in La Crosse, a couple in West Salem get arrested for serious child-abuse accusations, an official cause of death for Ozzy, a guest at an Airbnb in Madison allegedly found hidden cameras in the bathroom, the abandoned boat in Milwaukee("Deep Thought") has a new owner, and AI therapists have been banned in Illinois. In sports, the Brewers have now won five straight after beating the Braves again last night, we took a look at this weekend's NFL preseason schedule, Jordan Addison of the Vikings gets suspended by the league, and ESPN is acquiring the NFL Network in a massive deal. Elsewhere in sports, another sex toy ends up on the floor of a WNBA game, an update on the Nate Hobbs injury, and March Madness will not be expanding this coming season. We let you know what's on TV today and talked about another rumor of a "Goonies" sequel. A YouTuber just visited 50 states in 50 days and used his adventure to raise money for St. Jude's hospitals. And a restaurant in Hudson, WI was saved by it's teen workers when the owner's wife had a medical issue. Is this the lamest excuse to miss work? Is this what the kids are doing nowadays? Does anyone still have work ethic? We took a look at a list of some of the most unhygienic things that people still do. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a priest who got busted for soliciting prostitutes, a woman who accidentally got charged $8,500 for parking in a hospital's garage, an airport in Atlanta that leaked raw sewage all over the place, a woman who set a dude's house on fire over the $7 he allegedly owed her, and a teacher who encouraged a couple of siblings to fight at a daycare.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The conversation takes a sharp turn to a heated rant about New Jersey's controversial gas tax hike, sparking a broader discussion about taxation, state politics, and the everyday woes of living in the Garden State. With Paul Catalina & Craig Smoak Aaron Torres joins 365 Sports to push back on the growing calls to expand both the College Football Playoff and March Madness. Torres explains why 12 teams is enough — and how moving to 16 could water down the sport's best regular season. He also sounds off on NCAA tournament expansion, calling it a move no fans want and a cash grab in disguise. Plus, we dive into the Memphis-Big 12 situation and why their rejection despite a major financial offer highlights the cold business of conference realignment. Torres compares Memphis' dilemma to UConn's painful but strategic path after Big East collapse. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
