"Hey, I tell you what is. Big city, hmm? Live, work, huh? But not city only. Only peoples. Peoples is peoples. No is buildings. Is tomatoes, huh? Is peoples, is dancing, is music, is potatoes. So, peoples is peoples. Okay?" With his dream project THE DARK CRYSTAL taking so much of his time and energy, Jim Henson was content to slim down his role on the next Muppet project and allow his right hand man Frank Oz to take the helm in his first solo directing feature. THE MUPPETS TAKE MANHATTAN would be the last Muppet film that Henson would be involved with before his untimely passing a few years later, but the film's legacy would have a lasting impact on his company, especially in the form of the Muppet Babies, who'd get their own Saturday morning cartoon, inspired by a sequence from the film. And let's not forget the media circus that surrounded the wedding of the century! In this episode, we give all the details on how the film came to be, from its concept, multiple script changes, release and beyond! Want to support the show? "Another world, another time, in the age of wonder. A thousand years ago, this land was green and good - until the Crystal cracked." After the completion of THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER, Jim Henson focused on a project that had been in the works for years — its earliest seeds were planted well before even The Muppet Show had begun production — an ambitious fantasy film made in collaboration with renowned illustrator Brian Froud. That film, THE DARK CRYSTAL, would be Jim's most ambitious project to date. It's a film that pushed the limits of what puppetry was capable of, essentially creating an entirely new artform that would change the landscape of movie special effects for years to come. But it was also a great artistic and financial risk for Henson. When it was released, audiences didn't quite know what to think of it, but the film has become to be considered a bonafide classic in the decades since. In this episode, we'll detail the years long process to bring THE DARK CRYSTAL to the screen. D&D LIVE FOR CHARITY, Hosted by Mr. Todd A. It's frustrating to feel like you're spinning your wheels, stuck in the same routines while time slips away. Distractions pile up, bad habits take root, and before you know it, another year has passed without real progress. The problem isn't a lack of potential—it's the absence of intentional action. Breaking free from mediocrity doesn't require a massive overhaul overnight; it starts with small, deliberate steps toward something meaningful. When you stop waiting for the perfect moment and start taking control, life shifts from something that happens to you into something you actively shape. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UwN_9gEj3Y Dennis J. “Life's like a movie. Write your own ending. Keep believing. Keep pretending.” With The Muppet Show, Jim Henson had reached the goal that he'd set for himself many years before: He'd managed to get his beloved Muppets their own weekly television series. Not only that, but it was an enormous success, quickly becoming one of the most watched television shows in the entire world. The Muppets were as big as they'd ever been. The next step seemed logical: The Muppets were going to Hollywood. Getting them there wouldn't be as straight-forward as you might think. After all, what Jim was proposing to do — bringing the Muppets out of their highly-controlled sutdio environment and into the real world — was unprecedented, and there was a question as to whether it'd work at all. In the latest episode of Jim Henson: Heart Felt, we're telling the complete story of just how Henson pulled it off, and how he created one of the most beloved films of the 1970s, one that still resonated with audiences nearly half a century later. Kim Marsh and Alice Nagle from Fetch the Smelling Salts podcast join Flixwatcher to review Kim's choice Hidden Figures. Hidden Figures (2016) is loosely based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Margot Lee Shetterly. It tells the incredible true story of the biographies of three African-American women who worked as computers to solve problems for engineers and others at NASA. Directed by Theodore Melfi it stars Taraji P. Henson as Katherine Goble Johnson, Octavia Spencer as Dorothy Vaughan and Janelle Monáe as Mary Jackson. Other real life character include Mahershala Ali as Jim Johnson, who marries Katherine and Glen Powell as astronaut John Glenn. In fictional roles it also stars Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst and Jim Parsons. Hidden Figures shines a light on the impressive work done by women of colour in behind the scenes roles. However, there are a number of fictional scenes and several inaccuracies, some that lean into the white saviour trope. Recommendability scores were very favourable despite the historical inaccuracies. Fairly solid scores across the remaining categories give a very respectable score of 4.34 overall. We continue to celebrate afro-centric films during Black History with a director focus on John Singleton films; Poetic Justice/Higher Learning/Baby Boy!Poetic Justice is a 1993 American romantic drama film written and directed by John Singleton, and starring Janet Jackson, Tupac Shakur, Regina King, and Joe Torry. It follows a poet (Jackson) mourning the loss of her boyfriend from gun violence. She goes on a road trip from South Los Angeles to Oakland on a mail truck, along with her friend (King) and a postal worker (Shakur), in order to deal with depression.Following the success of his debut film, Boyz n the Hood, Singleton wanted to make a film that would give a voice to young African-American women. Jada Pinkett, Lisa Bonet, Monica Calhoun, and many other popular actresses auditioned for the role of Justice, though Singleton knew from the script's draft that the role was solely intended for Jackson. Filming took place from April 11 to July 4, 1992.Poetic Justice was released in the United States on July 23, 1993. The film received mixed reviews from critics, who criticized the screenplay though praised Jackson and Shakur's performances and chemistry. It reached No. 1 in the box office its opening weekend, grossing $11,728,455. It eventually grossed a total of $27,515,786. Jackson received Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for Best Original Song for "Again", which also reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Janet won 2 MTV Movie awards for her role in the film, including Most Desirable Female. The film has developed a cult following, especially for the chemistry between Jackson and Shakur.Higher Learning is a 1995 American crime drama film written and directed by John Singleton and starring an ensemble cast. The film follows the changing lives of three incoming freshmen at the fictional Columbus University: Malik Williams (Omar Epps), a track star who struggles with academics; Kristen Connor (Kristy Swanson), a shy and naive girl; and Remy (Michael Rapaport), a lonely and confused man seemingly out of place in his new environment. The film also featured Tyra Banks' first performance in a theatrical film. Laurence Fishburne won an NAACP Image Award for "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture"; Ice Cube was also nominated for the award. This was the last film appearance of Dedrick D. Gobert, who was shot dead in 1994 prior to the film's release. The exterior shots and outdoor scenes were shot on the campus of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) while the interiors were shot at Sony Pictures Studios.aby Boy is a 2001 American coming-of-age hood drama film directed, written and produced by John Singleton, and starring Tyrese Gibson, Snoop Dogg, Ving Rhames, Omar Gooding, A.J. Johnson and Taraji P. Henson.[5] The film follows Joseph "Jody" Summers (Gibson), a 20-year-old bike mechanic as he lives and learns in his everyday life in the hood of Los Angeles. The film was originally written with rapper-actor Tupac Shakur in mind to play Jody; Shakur had previously worked with Singleton on Poetic Justice. However, following Shakur's murder in 1996, Singleton decided to replace Shakur with R&B artist Tyrese Gibson. Additionally, the role of Rodney was originally written for Ice Cube, who had worked with Singleton on Boyz n the Hood and Higher Learning. The film marked the feature acting debut of Gibson and provided Henson with her first prominent role.Released in the United States on June 27, 2001, the film received predominantly positive reviews from critics and audiences, with many deeming it as Singleton's best film since Boyz n the Hood. The film is also the final feature film written by Singleton as he did not write any of his later feature-length directorial projects before his death in April 2019.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

In this deeply moving and courageous episode, Kelly chats with Yolanda Henson, a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, to share her powerful story of survival, resilience, and advocacy. Yolanda opens up about the horrific abuse she endured as a child in Mexico—allegedly suffering sexual abuse at the hands of her uncles and verbal and physical mistreatment from her grandmother. Tragically, she was not alone. Nine other children living under the same roof, including her brothers and cousins, were allegedly subjected to similar abuse by members of their own family. Though she eventually escaped after being adopted by an American family, her journey to safety was far from over. Instead of finding love and protection, she faced continued emotional and mental abuse.Determined to seek justice, Yolanda and some of her cousins reported their abusers to the authorities in Mexico, only to be ignored. The investigation into their case has been stalled for over four years, with constant delays and a disturbing lack of action from law enforcement. Despite this, she refuses to stay silent. In this episode, Yolanda speaks about her ongoing fight for justice, the importance of educating young children about abuse prevention—just as schools teach drug prevention—and why exposing these crimes is crucial to breaking the cycle of abuse. She also shares insights into her healing journey and how survivors coming forward can help dismantle the stigma surrounding childhood abuse. This episode is a powerful call to action, demanding justice, awareness, and change.Follow Yolanda on TikTokWatch this episode on YouTubeFollow Kelly:https://kellydillon.com/https://www.instagram.com/kelldillon/https://www.facebook.com/kellydillontv/https://twitter.com/kelly_dillonhttp://tiktok.com/@kelldillonThe truth will truly set us free. “As children, we all live in a world of imagination, of fantasy, and for some of us that world of make-believe continues into adulthood.” Despite spending years fighting against the notion that puppets were nothing more than “children's entertainment,” Jim Henson found his greatest success thus far working on a television show aimed at toddlers: the groundbreaking educational series SESAME STREET. But before he got there, Jim went on a years long detour into the world of experimental filmmaking, work that would ultimatley influence many of the inserts that he'd film for SESAME STREET. In this episode, we'll discuss Henson's work on short films such as TIME PIECE and experimental television programs like YOUTH ‘68 and THE CUBE — not to mention his brief flirtation with opening a psychedlic nightclub and his time spent onstage in Las Vegas — before taking a deep dive into his involvement with SESAME STREET, a program that would change television, and the Muppets, forever. [School of Movies 2025] In the name of joy, this year we are looking back across every Muppet movie we haven't yet covered, starting right here with the original 1979 film. For perspective, Jim Henson had made two successful TV shows up to this point, the well-known Muppet Show, which began in 1976 and was in the middle of its third season when this was being made, but before that, a weird series of little black and white skits called "Sam and Friends" which aired beginning in 1955. We recruited Muppet experts Mackenzie and Nathan Eastram to delve into the story of how Henson and company got to this place, as well as extolling the copious virtues of this instantly melancholy little tale about fame and dreamers, and money-men, crammed with celebrity cameos, none of which your five year old will recognise. Some of which are legendary comedy figureheads of the 20th century that I had to look up, and I'm in my mid-40s! Guests: Mackenzie Eastram @KenziePhoenix of Rainbow Connection @MuppetsPod Nathan Eastram @bertnerdtram These two are also part of DiceWeave @DiceWeavePod

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the latest roster and coaching staff movement with the NCAA Transfer Portal opening last week and player movement happening at record rates. The biggest portal news for USC happened on Tuesday with the Branch Brothers announcing they would be the latest Trojans to transfer. Wide receiver Zachariah Branch and safety Zion Branch both were slated to play major roles on this team in 2025, but neither will be wearing Cardinal and Gold going forward after they put their names in the NCAA Transfer Portal. With Zachariah's departure, all four five-star players recruited by Lincoln Riley from the 2022 and 2023 classes have now left the program: Branch, cornerback Domani Jackson, wide receiver Duce Robinson and quarterback Malachi Nelson. USC will also be on the market to hire a new offensive line coach and offensive coordinator with Josh Henson departing to join Barry Odom at Purdue. Henson will be the offensive coordinator for the Boilermakers but unlike his role at USC, he will be the primary play caller at Purdue. The guys talk about Riley's decision to hire from within, promoting tight ends coach Zach Hanson to be the Trojans new offensive line coach. They also discuss the other players that hit the portal and some of the candidates to fill the open linebacker coaching spot. CLICK HERE for 50% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com!
