Jeff Howe and Rod Babers break down the lingering questions we have following the Spring Practice period! What remaining questions do you have ahead of the 2025 Texas Longhorns football season?
With spring camp firmly in the books for Florida State, head coach Mike Norvell met with the media on Wednesday for a post-spring press conference, touching on what he called a “very productive spring.” “I thought that we really got a great glimpse of the potential of what this team can be,” Norvell said, praising players for “trying to be their best, trying to challenge each other, trying to compete.” One of the highlights for him was the way the team responded following a lackluster practice towards the end of spring, bouncing back to showcase the execution he had been searching for up to that point: “To see the way that they responded the next two days was really a great opportunity for them to show a little bit of that grit, a little bit of that desire and the edge.” With spring practice cut two practices short due to the tragic shooting on campus (“I definitely think that was the right decision to be made”), the Seminoles will look to offseason and summer workouts to pick up the work and further establish continuity. Norvell spoke on the offensive line, which was one of the position groups hardest hit by injuries this spring, saying that “it's gonna be a group that has great experience… potentially one of the great strengths of what this team can be,” while saying that the attrition in the receiver room was a result of “real conversations” due to being over numbers. “Nothing's happened I can say was just absolutely unexpected.....I'm really pleased with some of the newcomers that joined the program in January, and I really believe that the growth of guys that have been here.” He was especially complimentary of the quarterbacks, saying that watching the group was “one of the highlights of our spring ball.” Florida State added transfer quarterback Jalen King last week, something that excited Norvell as he anticipates King to “hit the ground running....he's going to be a great addition to the quarterback room. We've had the last few years we only had three scholarship quarterbacks… being able to have another talented young man in that room… is gonna provide great depth.” The head coach also spoke on tight end Markeston Douglas' decision to remain with the Seminoles after previously announcing his desire to transfer for the second time in three years, saying “I'm grateful that he is here… I think we've got a chance to have a really dynamic tight end room… Markeston definitely brings tremendous value and playmaking ability.” Learn more about your ad choices. One can argue that no Ohio State position group is dealing with more 'new' in 2025 than its offensive line. OSU must find a way to replace four Day 1 starters from its 2024 lineup and the man in charge of doing that is new offensive line coach Tyler Bowen. Plus, there are three new freshmen and two new transfers who are both expected to push for starting roles. On this episode of Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means, Stefan Krajisnik and Andrew Gillis preview the offensive line, looking at all the names, goals for the spring and the group's ceiling. Keenan Bailey might have his deepest group since becoming Ohio State's tight end coach. He returns three of the top four players in snaps from last season, with the only departure being wide receiver-turned-tight end Gee Scott Jr. He's been replaced by what might be the most talented player OSU's seen at the position in some time thanks to adding Purdue transfer Max Klare. This group has a handful of players coming into a spring where it can accomplish quite a lot. Tight ends haven't often been the headliners of the offense, doing much of the dirty work. But this spring is a chance to become more than just that, even if the talent around them is still high. On this episode of Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means, Stefan Krajisnik and Andrew Gillis preview the offensive line, looking at all the names, goals for the spring and the group's ceiling. Ohio State lost its all-time leading pass-catcher after the 2024 season and it might not skip a beat in 2025. But that isn't the most intriguing thing about the room. While OSU's wide receivers spend this spring building on all the young talent that established itself amongst the nation's best, Brian Hartline will have a new focus. The former player-turned-coach is taking over play-calling duties, which comes with its own new challenges, thanks to all the new on offense. On this episode of Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means, Stefan Krajisnik and Andrew Gillis preview the wide receivers, looking at all the names, goals for the spring and the group's ceiling. Carlos Lockslyn's first year as Ohio State's running back coach was a success as he perfectly maximized TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins while restocking the room for the future. His reward was a national title and now his focus shifts to 2025, where he must replace both players in a room featuring four new faces. On this episode of Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means, Stefan Krajisnik and Andrew Gillis preview the running backs, looking at all the names, goals for the spring and the group's ceiling. Ohio State will debut its fifth starting quarterback of the Ryan Day era when it faces Texas on Aug. 30 to open up the 2025 season, but the road between that date and now is long. OSU heads into spring with three scholarship players all vying to be the person who succeeds Will Howard, hoping to accomplish what the Kansas State transfer did last season. Each has a different mission to accomplish over the next 15 practices and here at Buckeye Talk, we are here to reveal what these missions are. On this Monday episode, Stephen Means and Stefan Krajisnik preview the quarterbacks and decide what they need to do for this to be a successful spring for each. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk. Ohio State's safety room is home to the nation's best returning defensive player in Caleb Downs. Then a lot of questions after that. Downs is the only known commodity at a position that arguably had the nation's best tandem in 2024 with him and Lathan Ransom. With Ransom off to the NFL, this becomes an important spring for position coach Matt Guerrieri in finding not only Ransom's replacement. But building depth behind him. On this episode of Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means, Stefan Krajisnik and Andrew Gillis preview the safeties, looking at all the names, goals for the spring and the group's ceiling. Plus, a conversation about a former five-star and whether we think this group will be better, the same or worse than it was in 2024. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk. Tim Walton has spent the last three years rebuilding Ohio State's cornerback room and now it's time to see if he made the right evaluations. Key pieces have left for the NFL, leaving Davision Igbinosun behind as the only returning starter. But behind him is a bunch of high-end talent that's patiently waited its turn. Now the time has come. The previous regime was charged with bringing 'BIA' back. The next regime gets to make sure it's here to stay. On this episode of Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means, Stefan Krajisnik and Andrew Gillis preview the cornerbacks, looking at all the names, goals for the spring and the group's ceiling. Plus, a conversation about a former five-star and whether we think this group will be better, the same or worse than it was in 2024. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk. James Laurinaits has spent the last year restocking Ohio State's linebacker room with high-end talent while also developing a few others. Now it's time to see the fruits of that labor play out. A room that lost its leader and best player will need others to step up beside returning starter Sonny Styles and be the playmakers of a new look defense. On this episode of Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means, Stefan Krajisnik and Andrew Gillis preview the linebackers, looking at all the names, goals for the spring and the group's ceiling. Plus, a conversation about a former five-star and whether we think this group will be better, the same or worse than it was in 2024. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk. Ohio State has to replace a ton of production on its defensive line after losing all four starters to graduation, plus another depth piece to the transfer portal. The path has been paved for new stars to emerge and fresh ideas to be introduced for a group where very few have much experience heading into spring practice. On this episode of Buckeye Talk, Stephen Means, Stefan Krajisnik and Andrew Gillis preview the defensive line, looking at all the names, goals for the spring and the group's ceiling. Plus, a conversation about a former five-star and whether we think this group will be better, the same or worse than it was in 2024. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk.
