After winning the double dip in Chicago yesterday to sweep the series against the White Sox, Jays fans quickly turn their attention to tonight's game against the Tigers with Alek Manoah taking the mound. Host Blake Murphy brings on Sportsnet's own Jeff Blair of Blair and Barker to share his takeaways from this most recent series, before taking a step back to revaluate the team's entire month of June. Next up, Baseball Prospectus contributor Russell A. Carleton takes us through his recently released book "The New Ballgame", before diving into some sabermetrics around the league (33:18). We then turn our attention to the upcoming MLB Draft with Carlos Collazo of Baseball America and the Future Projection podcast, who shares why this year's crop of prospects might be the deepest one in over a decade (51:12). Blake also checks in with friend Eric Koreen, writer at the The Athletic live from Las Vegas, who discusses his view on the Blue Jays heading towards the All-Star break (01:15:08). To close today's show, Blake gives his take on what to watch for in Alek's start tonight in hopes of seeing signs of the former Cy Young finalist (01:31:42). The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

With a background in clinical psychology as well as experience of working in major league front offices, former Baseball Prospectus writer and all-round nice chap Russell A. Carleton was uniquely placed to provide a marriage of sabermetrics and cognitive science in his excellent 2018 book, The Shift. Fortunate (and very grateful!) to be given the opportunity to discuss the book with the author himself, in the first part of the episode we chatted to Russell about his process and how his background in clinical psychology inspired the book. We were also joined by Henry Cooke (@LWIMTH) from the sublime Absolute Bunts podcast, for the round-table part of the show, in which we marvelled at the books warmth and universal appeal, and discussed the way in which the book has impacted our baseball consumption and, to an extent, our lives more generally! It would be lovely if everybody could rate and review the podcast wherever you get your podcasts. We love seeing the feedback chiefly because it is nice seeing positive things written about yourself, but also because it increases the exposure of the podcast on different platforms and helps to expand our audience as we march ever onward towards global podcast domination! Don't forget, you can follow us on Twitter @RTGPod and check out our website (www.RTGPod.com) and please don't hesitate to get in touch with feedback and to suggest future content for the pod. Hope you enjoy the show!

When we talk about park adjusted stats, and park factors, what does all of that mean? How do we arrive at those numbers and how do we account for changes over time? We also talk about "pitch design" and how that combines analytical data and player development. Links: The Shift: The Next Evolution in Baseball Thinking by Russell A.
