Episode Summary:In this episode, host Jeff Long addresses the pervasive feeling of uncertainty and fear that many people seem to experience as they observe current global and national events. Using a backdrop of scripture, Jeff offers a perspective of hope and control in the midst of what may appear to be chaos. Dive into a discussion that transcends the immediate worries of our times and taps into the enduring truths found in Christian theology. From Colossians, which discusses the sovereignty of Christ over all creation, to the poignant reminders in Matthew 24 of the challenges and tribulations that will precede the end times, Jeff paints a picture of a world that is under divine supervision, even in the face of suffering and strife. This thought-provoking episode encourages listeners to consider a narrative of stability and divine order when faced with the so-called disarray of the modern age.Key Takeaways:Divine Sovereignty: The belief that, regardless of world events, everything is under the control of a higher power as per Colossians 1:15-17.End Times Perspective: An interpretation of Matthew 24, which mentions wars, natural disasters, and false prophets as signs of the times, not necessarily the end.Caution Against Deception: A warning from Jesus about being misled by false messiahs and prophets in times of turmoil.Hope and Endurance: Despite the challenges Christians may face, there is a message of enduring love and salvation. The Gospel's Triumph: The assurance that the gospel will reach all nations before the end comes, as a testament to God's prevailing word.Notable Quotes:"He's got the whole world in his hands. That's either true or it's not true.""He either holds all things together or he doesn't hold all things together.""Let's focus on the promises of the one who reigns supreme.""The love of many will grow cold in the midst of not seeing beyond what is right in front of our face.""The gospel will last and will overcome."Resources:During this conversation, the following Biblical passages were referenced:Colossians 1:15-17Matthew 24John 10:28Revelation 1To engage further with Jeff Long's insights and stay updated with his reflections, listeners may want to search for any ministries, articles, or books he might be associated with, although specific resources are not provided in the transcript. We invite you to listen to the full episode to explore the depth of the conversation and gain a more nuanced understanding of the interplay between faith and the current state of the world. Philosophical concepts are influential in the theories and methods of studying world religions. Even though anthropology and religious studies now encompass communities and cultures worldwide, the theories and methods used to study world religions and cultures continue to be rooted in Western philosophies. For instance, one of the most widely used textbooks used in introductory courses on religious studies introduces major theoreticians such as Edward Burnett Tylor, James Frazer, Sigmund Freud, Emile Durkheim, Karl Marx, Max Weber, Mircea Eliade, William James, E. E. Evans-Pritchard, and Clifford Geertz. Their theories are based on Western philosophy. In contrast, in Indic philosophical systems, such as Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism, one of the common views on reality is that the world, both within oneself and outside, is a flow with nothing permanent, both the observer and the observed undergoing constant transformation. This volume is based on innovative ideas from different Indic philosophies and how they can enrich the theory and methods in religious studies. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pankaj-jain/message

Creating Sterile Processing Department schedules that make the most of a staff's time requires a complete understanding and visibility of the demands of a particular healthcare facility. And to gain that big picture, a department needs data and lots of it. Still, more than that, a Sterile Processing Department needs a platform solution that provides reporting in an innovative and actionable way. What's the next generation of technology available to make SPD scheduling demands less challenging?Tyler Kern, the host of ConCensis, came together with Seamus Johnson, Sr. Director of Application Development for Censis, Jeff Long, Network Director of Sterile Processing at St. Luke's University Health Network, and Cody Troutt, Director of Central Sterile at Williamson Medical for a third, and final discussion on Censis' new CensisAI2 Productivity platform. This third conversation with Kern, Johnson, Long, and Troutt includes the following:The importance of optimized SPD staff utilizationCreating tray efficiencies through data analysisAdvice for hospitals considering or evaluating the CensisAI2 tool“You have to be able to demonstrate to them (the C-Suite) a return on investment,” Troutt said. “It doesn't matter if you work for a for-profit or not-for-profit hospital. Your not-for-profit hospitals are not for a loss either.”Seamus Johnson is an experienced Senior Software Engineer with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital & healthcare industry. Johnson's proficiency in Software Architecture, Agile Methodologies, C#, Angular, and TypeScript makes him a valued asset to the Censis team, where he's spent most of his career.Jeff Long is an experienced Department Director with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital & healthcare industry. There are an estimated 51.4 million inpatient surgeries performed in the U.S. on an annual basis. That's a lot of reusable instruments that require sterile processing. It's no wonder Sterile Processing Departments (SPDs) have their hands full. Labor shortages, mainly since the pandemic, put tremendous strain on already taxed SPDs.Censis creates solutions to give SPD departments an edge in streamlined efficiency and data-driven analysis to provide actionable insights. Their latest solution, CensisAI2 Productivity, combines with CensiTrac to deliver SPDs with the complete visibility they need to increase productivity in sterile processing. Tyler Kern, the host of ConCensis, rejoined with Seamus Johnson, Sr. Director of Application Development for Censis, Jeff Long, Network Director of Sterile Processing at St. Luke's University Health Network, and Cody Troutt, Director of Central Sterile at Williamson Medical continued their discussion on the CensisAI2 Productivity solution. This second conversation with Kern, Johnson, Long, and Troutt includes the following:The challenges of visibility in operational processes for SPDsBest practices for utilizing CensisAI2 and CensiTracHow CensisAI2's dashboard helps SPD managers be proactive“One thing that we had realized was that our existing technology had not been optimized or even built,” Long said. “We had no standardization on how to use the technology we were using. We had a lot of work to do, and that's why the timing was perfect on a lot of the technology we incorporated since then.”Seamus Johnson is an experienced Senior Software Engineer with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital & healthcare industry. Many areas of healthcare struggle with staffing issues, requiring personnel to do more with fewer resources. Sterile processing departments are not immune to these issues. Today, increased responsibilities and difficulty finding and retaining qualified employees to manage these critical tasks are challenging to solve.Even with data tracking tools and platforms, making sense of all that collected data to take actionable steps to create efficiencies can take time and effort. So, what can sterile processing departments do?Tyler Kern, the host of ConCensis, welcomed three guests to the show to discuss the issue and a solution Censis created to work together with its CensiTrac Instrument Tracking System to provide actionable insights that will help streamline operations to achieve department goals. CensisAI2 Productivity is that solution, and on this first of three episodes, Seamus Johnson, Sr. Director of Application Development for Censis, Jeff Long, Network Director of Sterile Processing at St. Luke's University Health Network, and Cody Troutt, Director of Central Sterile at Williamson Medical laid the foundation for the need create productivity solutions for sterile processing departments. This first discussion with Kern, Johnson, Long, and Troutt includes the following:Why measuring productivity in sterile processing departments is essential. The staffing challenges SPD departments face in today's healthcare landscape.Validating staffing needs through actionable data.“Always have an elevator speech in your back pocket,” Troutt said. “Because you never know when you'll get on the elevator, and your chief, whatever title, will be there. And you must have that in your back pocket, ready to go all the time. Data is something that they'll most always listen to.”Seamus Johnson is an experienced Senior Software Engineer with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital & healthcare industry. Taproot S6E1: May I have your attention, please? Searching for causal mutations and for institutional support. In this episode, our guest is Dior Kelley, an assistant professor in the Genetics, Development and Cell Biology department at Iowa State University. Dior received her B.S. in Chemistry from the University of California Santa Cruz in 2000, and her Ph.D. in Plant Biology from the University of California Davis in 2009 before doing an NIH Postdoctoral fellowship with Jeff Long at the Salk Institute and a second postdoc with Mark Estelle. She joined her department as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in 2015 before moving to her current role in 2019. Dior describes “slim shady is a novel allele of PHYTOCHROME B present in the T-DNA line SALK_015201”, which was published in Plant Direct last year. We also discuss the ways in which the already precarious position of the pre-tenure faculty member with kids was exacerbated by the COVID pandemic. We talk about the limitations of giving pre-tenure faculty an extra year to tenure, the challenges of a dual professor couple, and what institutions could be doing–but typically AREN'T–to support young faculty. We hope this conversation helps move us towards solutions both specific to the challenges of the pandemic, but also to more general challenges of young families on the tenure track. Evidence of the Afterlife: The Science of Near-Death Experiences by Jeffrey Long This short Audiobook excerpt serves as an introduction to this fine book. In the opinion of ACU this is the best book on the NDE experience. If you have to choose one book on the subject, this is the one. Highly recommended by ACU. Purchase the book at your favorite book seller or at- https://www.amazon.com/Evidence-Afterlife-Science-Near-Death-Experiences/dp/0061452572 NDERF Website- https://nderf.org/ About the book- Evidence of the Afterlife: The Science of Near-Death Experiences by Jeffrey Long and Paul Perry. January 4, 2011 “There is currently more scientific evidence to the reality of near death experience (NDE) than there is for how to effectively treat certain forms of cancer,” states radiation oncologist Dr. Jeffrey Long is his groundbreaking new book Evidence of the Afterlife. In 1998 Dr. Long and his wife, Jody, began the Near Death Experience Research Foundation with the goal of creating a forum for near death “experiencers” to share their stories. Grounded in first-hand evidence culled from over 1,600 verified NDE accounts, Evidence of the Afterlife presents the strongest argument yet for the underlying truth of those who have died and returned to share their tales. Editorial Reviews Review “Dr. Jeff Long and journalist Paul Perry have done a phenomenal job in clarifying current events in the study of near-death experiences. Dr. Long's work is leading us closer to a rational solution of the afterlife mystery.” — Raymond Moody, M.D., Ph.D., author of Life after Life “This important book about near-death experiences provides compelling evidence that mind and consciousness cannot be reduced to brain activity.” — Mario Beauregard, Ph.D., Neuroscientist at the University of Montreal and co-author of The Spiritual Brain “If someone asked for proof that life after death exists, refer them to this book. Dr. Long and Paul Perry have gone way beyond faith and into science, providing us with well-documented proof of what we have known absolutely for 35 years - there is life after death.” — Dannion and Kathryn Brinkley, authors of Saved by the Light and Secrets of the Light “Is there life after death? ...Radiation oncologist Dr. Jeffrey Long argues that if you look at the scientific evidence, the answer is unequivocally yes. Drawing on a decade's worth of research on near-death experiences... he makes the case for that controversial conclusion.” — Time.com “Long answers skeptics . . . does a fine job of summarizing some of the transformative changes from NDEs.... The end result of all this testimony, according to Long, is ‘there is life after death.'” — Spirituality and Practice From the Back Cover The Most Compelling Scientific Evidence for Life Beyond Death Ever Compiled Evidence of the Afterlife shares the firsthand accounts of people who have died and lived to tell about it. Through their work at the Near Death Experience Research Foundation, radiation oncologist Jeffrey Long and his wife, Jody, have gathered thousands of accounts of near-death experiences (NDEs) from all over the world. In addition to sharing the personal narrative of their experiences, visitors to the website are asked to fill out a one hundred–item questionnaire designed to isolate specific elements of the experience and to flag counterfeit accounts. The website has become the largest NDE research database in the world, containing over 1,600 NDE accounts. The people whose stories are captured in the database span all age groups, races, and religious affiliations and come from all over the world, yet the similarities in their stories are as awe-inspiring as they are revealing. Using this treasure trove of data, Dr. Long explains how medical evidence fails to explain these reports and why there is only one plausible explanation—that people have survived death and traveled to another dimension. About the Author Jeffrey Long, M.D., is a radiation oncologist in Houma, Louisiana, and has appeared on NBC's Today Show, ABC's World News Tonight with Peter Jennings, FOX's The O'Reilly Factor, and The Learning Channel. Long has also served on the board of directors of the International Association for Near-Death Studies and established the nonprofit Near Death Experience Research Foundation and the NDERF website.
