Mookie opens the show gloating about Arsenal F.C., we debate the true power of the Wooden Spoon, and then we get into the real chaos. Tarik Skubal is basically one-and-done for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, and we're not thrilled about it. Who fills the gap? Is Team USA already in trouble? And are robo-umps about to screw someone in a massive spot thanks to the ABS strike zone issue that players like Sal Frelick are pointing out? We fade the Colorado Rockies, Mike gets irrationally excited about the Cincinnati Reds, and we wrap up Olympic season with full Coach Lou Holtz energy that includes: – Curling gold drama – Lou pronouncing Tkachuk – A naked skeleton request – Lou getting left behind by Team USA – Lou reacting to Skubal bailing We also get into: – The UFL going full chaos mode with 4-point field goals, no punts past midfield, and no tush push – The NBA's latest ideas to “fix” tanking (it's not good) – Floyd Mayweather Jr. fighting Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao in 2026 like it's a time machine Plus beer recaps and whatever that ending was. Chatting with Ashlyn McKayla Ohm is always a delight. Listen in as we chat about her spin-off new series and the first book, Between Heaven and Earth. I love Avery and can't wait for you to meet her and Addisyn. note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. Anyone listening to Ashlyn talk about Colorado will see just how much she LOVES the Rockies. This new series combines her love of the mountains with a love of Lakota culture and the stories she's discovered there. Between Heaven and Earth by Ashlyn McKayla Ohm In the High Country, Heaven is closer than they know... After fighting to overcome her mother's abandonment, Avery Miles is thrilled to be working at a nature center in her beloved Colorado Rockies. But when her younger sister, Addisyn, begins revisiting their past, Avery's struggle with anxiety returns—especially as Addisyn comes dangerously close to the secret Avery kept to protect her. And Avery's problems worsen when she's forced to work alongside the creative—and cocky—YouTuber Creed Running Wolf on a conservation project with a surprising link to her own past. Now, Avery is caught between Addisyn's search for the truth and the anxiety that's becoming harder to hide…and the only answer lies in the town she ran from years ago. Creed Running Wolf has always been fascinated by the Lakota concept of kapemni—a doorway between Heaven and Earth. If that doorway exists, he's sure it's not in Colorado, the place he never wanted to see again. However, as he learns Avery's story, he begins to hope he can still rewrite his own—especially as he and Avery find common ground. But when the past resurfaces and his friendship with Avery is shattered, they will both have to face everything they've tried to escape—and discover once and for all what would truly bridge Heaven and Earth. Captivating and compelling, Between Heaven and Earth is an honest yet hopeful look at the stories we tell, the secrets we keep, and the healing power of forgiveness. Munaf Manji and Dave Essler talk NBA betting for Thursday and much more. The NBA resumes Thursday following the All Star break with several compelling matchups, while early MLB futures are beginning to take shape as analysts look ahead to the 2026 season. In Detroit's visit to Madison Square Garden, the Knicks are listed as four and a half point favorites against a Pistons team missing Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart due to suspensions stemming from a recent altercation. New York enters largely healthy, with only minor injury concerns, and the absence of Detroit's primary interior defenders shifts attention to Karl Anthony Towns. Towns has historically produced strong numbers against the Pistons and is positioned for a significant role, particularly on the glass and as a scorer. Detroit's recent defensive identity and slower pace suggest caution on the full game total, though a Pistons team total under and Towns points and rebounds over were highlighted as attractive angles. In San Antonio, the Spurs are favored by seven and a half over Phoenix, despite early market indicators showing notable support for the Suns. Phoenix has been one of the league's best teams against the number this season and has exceeded preseason expectations, largely due to improved defense. While San Antonio had been on an extended under run before clearing five straight prior to the break, the reset following All Star weekend raises the possibility of a slower tempo. The under, including a potential first half under, stands out more than the side, with Phoenix's ability to compete on the road keeping the spread within reach. The marquee matchup features Boston traveling to Golden State with the Celtics laying five and a half. The total has dropped sharply, reflecting injury concerns for the Warriors, including Steph Curry's absence pending further evaluation. Boston's recent offensive volume, combined with its defensive consistency, creates intrigue around the Celtics team total over, particularly given Golden State's recent defensive struggles. While revenge narratives from past postseason meetings linger, the primary focus rests on market movement and value relative to the opening numbers. Beyond the NBA slate, attention has shifted to MLB win totals, beginning with teams projected near the bottom of the standings. The Colorado Rockies enter with a win total of 53 and a half after a historically poor 43 and 119 season that featured a minus 424 run differential. Modest pitching additions provide some optimism for incremental improvement, though concerns remain about scoring consistency and bullpen reliability. The debate centers on whether even a ten game improvement is realistic within a competitive division, with opinions split between a slight over based on regression toward prior performance and skepticism rooted in roster limitations. The Washington Nationals, posted at 65 and a half wins, present a similar evaluation challenge. After finishing 66 and 96 with a minus 212 run differential, Washington continues a youth movement highlighted by promising position players but hampered by pitching uncertainty and bullpen depth issues. Competing in a division with multiple contenders complicates the path to meaningful gains, and an early season schedule featuring several strong opponents could suppress initial results. While offensive upside exists, inconsistency and pitching volatility make the under the more cautious position entering the season. As both leagues move forward, disciplined market evaluation and situational awareness remain central themes for bettors navigating the transition from midseason NBA adjustments to long term MLB futures. Balance-Rhythm-Timing-Direction ... a look into the approach of evaluating and developing a hitter.
Electricity prices are rising across New York, and understanding what drives those costs has never been more important. In this Power Trends podcast, NYISO Vice President of Market Structures Shaun Johnson breaks down the factors shaping today's electricity supply charges and explains how wholesale markets produce the most cost-efficient solutions to meet consumer demand. Wholesale electricity supply costs have been climbing as natural gas prices — New York's primary fuel for electricity — have nearly doubled in the past year. Most of what customers pay goes toward utility delivery charges, taxes, and other non-supply components. Electricity bills can be confusing, but Johnson breaks down the two primary charges: The supply cost makes up approximately one third of your bill. The other two thirds are the retail rates your utility company charges plus taxes and fees. The physical composition of the gas pipeline infrastructure factors into retail delivery costs as well. Because New York and New England sit at the tail end of a pipeline network that originates in the Colorado Rockies and the Gulf Coast, delivery costs to northeastern states are among the highest in the nation. As the state moves toward greater electrification and new large loads emerge, demand is expected to keep growing. At the same time, aging generation and long lead times for new resources are tightening supply. These realities put upward pressure on prices too.“Our market philosophy has always been sort of simple,” Johnson notes, “how do we keep the lights on at the lowest cost via competition.”Check out the complete podcast to explore how wholesale markets function, what's driving today's costs, and how NYISO works to maintain grid reliability at the lowest cost — even when fuel prices surge.More resourcesPlease visit our new winter pricing resource page to explain what's behind rising costs.Learn More Follow us on X/Twitter @NewYorkISO, LinkedIn @NYISO, Bluesky @nyiso.com Read our blogs and watch our videos

Our first guest is Andrew Rohrbach, a former professional baseball player who was drafted in the 9th round by the Colorado Rockies and knows firsthand what it takes—mentally and physically—to compete at the highest level. After stepping away from the game, Andrew earned his Master's degree in Sport Psychology from Long Beach State, where he worked with Division I athletes across multiple sports and saw just how powerful mental performance can be.Today, Andrew is the founder of Motive Mental Performance, where he helps athletes and teams build confidence, manage pressure, and stay grounded in high-stakes moments. Drawing from both lived experience and applied psychology, his work is especially focused on athlete identity and navigating life transitions beyond sport. His approach is practical, athlete-centered, and rooted in simple tools athletes can actually use in competition—helping athletes perform at their best while also feeling confident in who they are off the field.Work with Andrew Rohrbach, MS@motivemental performanceWork with Joy Hahn Silva Millora: www.instagram.com/with_joy.hs/Work with Laura Hahn-Segundo Collins, LCSW: lcollinslcsw.com, @theathletepsychotherapistMusic by Pathfire: Nathan Collins and Sean TitoneIntro Edited by Ian LevensteinEpisode Edited by Hahnacity

There aren't many debates hotter than who should and shouldn't be elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame. While members of the BBWAA are tasked with voting on the standard ballot, the veterans committee votes on a smaller ballot to determine whether those who fell through the cracks will ultimately achieve baseball immortality. On this episode of Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman talk about the committee of 16 former players, executives, and members of the media who will ultimately decide whether some of the biggest and most controversial names in baseball will be elected into the Hall of Fame. While players like Don Mattingly and Dale Murphy hope that their time in the league will help their nomination, for players like Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens, this could be their last chance to be voted in.Later, Jake and Jordan welcome nine-year veteran and current free-agent pitcher Lucas Giolito as he discusses what going through free agency is like, his thoughts on his time with the 2025 Boston Red Sox, how Garrett Crochet changed following his contract extension and what plans Lucas has for his post-MLB days. Then the guys talk about three players making their way back to MLB following their time in Japan, discuss the Colorado Rockies hiring a general manager and make their picks for The Good, The Bad & The Uggla.3:14 — The Opener: Hall of Fame veterans committee20:20 — Lucas Giolito joins the show!32:40 — Thoughts on the 2025 Red Sox55:37 — The future for Giolito1:00:48 — Around the League1:10:47 — The Good, The Bad & The Uggla Subscribe to Baseball Bar-B-Cast on your favorite podcast app:
What's going on in Denver? The Colorado Rockies have spent years — and a ton of money — trying to get back to contention. But as of 2025, the rebuild still isn't close to “done.” In this episode we break down exactly what's gone wrong, why the rebuild feels never-ending, and— How front office missteps and lack of clear direction have crippled the club's hopes. The disastrous 2025 season: worst in franchise history, worst run differential in the modern era, and a collapse so deep that fans are losing faith. Where the rebuild stands now — the state of the farm system, new leadership shake-ups, and the tradeoffs of youth + potential vs. veteran mis-investments. What must change for the Rockies to ever climb out of the hole: leadership, vision, investment — and a willingness to actually rebuild, not just patch holes. Expect honest talk, some tough love — and a clear answer to the question: Is the Rockies' rebuild ever going to end?
