During the hours that Jesus was on the cross, darkness interrupted the noonday. We will look at what took place in the darkness and why Jesus ended His life with the words He prayed. We will also look at the life-changing decision of Joseph that challenges us today.
Today's study demonstrates that even in his crucifixion, Jesus was fully in control of his life. No one took his life from him, but he willingly relinquished it into the safe keeping of God the Father. He has secured that solace for all who die trusting Him as Savior.

The things that you find beautiful are the things in which you will find joy. Beauty is an end unto itself: it's self-justified. Through the crucible of Christ's death, we are given the Holy Spirit, and weeping turns to joy. While that's a basic Scriptural promise, our joy tends to drain out. Dr. Sams explores the joy that transcends the problems of our broken world, and reminds us that the Sabbath is a tool to remember God's goodness, so our joy is never fully drained. Hear, and remember. God is good, and we can rejoice in that.

All of Christianity hinges on the events of these verses. They happened in history but what do they mean? What is their enduring significance?
The gospel still would have been a wonderful, inspirational story of unbelievable sacrifice, even without the resurrection, but since Jesus got up, He proved, in the flesh, that God's people have the victory over everything. Since Jesus defeated death, He showed us that no matter what we've been through, no matter what anyone has said about you, no matter how bad it looks, God is not through with you yet. As long as your hand is in God's hand, the story of your life is not over yet! (Luke 23:44-56; 24:1-12, 44-53)
