What does it truly mean to welcome others the way Christ welcomed us? This powerful exploration of Romans 15 challenges us to examine how we receive people into our faith communities. We discover that the 'strong' believers aren't necessarily those who've been Christians the longest, but those who understand their freedom in Christ without the baggage of religious tradition. The early church faced a profound struggle: Jewish believers steeped in 1,500 years of ceremonial law had to embrace Gentile believers who came with no religious background whatsoever. The message is clear—when Jesus said 'It is finished' on the cross, He wasn't just paying for our sins; He was tearing down every barrier that separates us from God and from each other. The beautiful Greek word 'proslambano' paints a vivid picture of taking someone by the arm, walking shoulder to shoulder through their journey. This isn't casual acquaintance—it's intimate, intentional discipleship. We're reminded of Jesus washing His disciples' feet after receiving all authority in heaven and earth, choosing humility over power. The three parables in Luke 15—the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the prodigal son—all culminate in the same response: rejoicing and celebration. Heaven throws a party over every single person who comes home to God. When we fail to welcome others with the same joy and grace that Christ showed us, we're not just being unfriendly—we're sinning against the very heart of the Gospel.**SERMON NOTES – Romans 15:1–13****1. Strong & Weak Believers (Rom 15:1–3)** - In Romans, “strong” = mainly Gentile believers who understand they are free from OT ceremonial law (Sabbaths, food laws, feasts). - “Weak” = mainly Jewish believers still bound in conscience to OT ceremonies; they lack faith to enjoy their freedom. - Obligation of the strong: bear with the weak, not please themselves; build others up. - Christ is the example: He did not please Himself but bore reproach for others (Ps 69).**2. Scripture, Endurance, and Hope (Rom 15:4–6)** - OT was written “for our instruction” so that through endurance and encouragement of Scripture we might have hope. - Old Testament stories (e.g., Israel in wilderness, Shadrach/Meshach/Abednego, Balaam) show God's faithfulness despite human failure. - Goal: harmony, accord, one voice glorifying God—hence corporate worship and unified praise.**3. Welcoming Like Christ (Rom 15:7)** - Command: “Welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” - Greek *proslambanō*: to take by the arm, draw close, walk with; intimate, committed welcome. - Seen in: - Peter taking Jesus aside (Mt 16:22), - Priscilla & Aquila taking Apollos aside to teach more accurately (Acts 18), - The people of Malta welcoming shipwrecked Paul (Acts 28). - To add extra requirements for belonging (like Pharisees' added laws) is near blasphemy.**4. God's Heart for Sinners (Luke 15)** - Three parables (lost sheep, coin, son): all end in rejoicing. - Heaven rejoices over one sinner who repents; God receives sinners with joy. - If we refuse to welcome those Christ welcomes, we sin against His heart.**5. Dispensations & “It Is Finished”** - Jesus lived and obeyed under the Law to fulfill it perfectly, then declared, “It is finished.” - Veil torn: access to God opened; we now live in the age of grace. - We approach God by faith, not ceremony; no more sacrifices—just bold access.**6. The God of Hope (Rom 15:13)** - God of hope fills us with joy and peace in believing. - By the Spirit we “abound in hope”: assurance that sin's penalty is paid and God is not angry with us. - Our assignment: carry this hope to our generation; God placed us in this time and place (Acts 17:24–27).---**PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS**1. Identify where you're “strong” and tempted to look down on “weaker” believers. Choose to bear with and build up instead. 2. Practice *proslambanō*: literally take someone new or struggling by the arm—sit with them, listen to them, walk with them. 3. Repent of any “extra rules” you expect from others that Jesus did not. 4. Use your testimony as your primary evangelism tool: “I was… but Christ…” 5. This week, ask God for one open door to share the hope you have and step through it in dependence on the Spirit.---**DISCUSSION QUESTIONS**1. In what areas of Christian freedom do you see yourself as “strong”? Where might that make you impatient with others? 2. Have you ever felt like a “weak” believer bound by conscience? What helped you grow? 3. What does “welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you” practically look like in our church? 4. Where have you added expectations for people that Jesus doesn't require? 5. Which OT story especially encourages your hope right now, and why? 6. Who is one person God may be asking you to “proslambanō” this month? What's your next step with them?

Happy Sunday!Dr. Mo thinks this series "It is Finished" is finished. However, stay tuned. She discusses Philippians 3:10 and adds to the focus John 19:30 for today's episode. She focuses on the three infamous words uttered by Jesus “it is finished.” Dr. Mo links this saying of Jesus back to the neuroscience and Philippians 3:10 as she thinks about how our bodies must finish the trauma response when it is started. Dr. Mo discusses how our bodies are already created with the universal response needed to bring them to safety and growth after trauma experiences. We continue to delve into the data from Dr. Aimee's book "The Biology of Trauma", as we walk through the essential sequence needed to begin the healing work: safety, support, and expansion. Today, we dive into the expansion component of the essential sequence. Expansion must not be rushed. It is not an intellectual exercise. It is experiential. It must be consistent. It must not be entered into until regulation and stability is firmly established. Tune into this episode as we discuss how to think about the ways God invites us into knowing the power of His Resurrection. How do we think about God's invitation to rise to life by moving from surviving to living and declaring along with Jesus, “IT IS FINISHED”?Information for Dr. Mohttps://www.drmoniquesmithgadson.com/Link to order “Finding Hope in A Dark Place”:https://lexhampress.com/search?query=Finding%20Hope%20in%20a%20Dark%20Place%3A%20Facing%20Loneliness%2C%20Depression%2C%20and%20Anxiety%20with%20the%20Power%20of%20Grace&sortBy=Relevance&limit=30&page=1&ownership=all&geographicAvailability=allhttps://www.amazon.com/Finding-Hope-Dark-Place-Loneliness/dp/1683596358/ref=rvi_sccl_7/138-1785751-1148333?pd_rd_w=decCb&content-id=amzn1.sym.f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_p=f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_r=GMEBCA5ZB54MM98HHN5F&pd_rd_wg=pwctW&pd_rd_r=0cf054c6-aedd-427d-ac2a-563757407228&pd_rd_i=1683596358&psc=1Follow us on social media: https://instagram.com/drmoniquesmithgadson?igshid=1bmt2hei1j6i8Support And The Church Said:Cash App: https://cash.app/$andthechurchsaid

On Friday, the disciples watched their hope die on a cross. It seemed that everything they believed was in chaos. Yet, moments before breathed his last, he declared three powerful words, "It is finished." Listen as Pastor Rob Bentz helps us understand the significance of these life-giving words in our Good Friday sermon. By Michael A. Youssef, Ph.D. Read John 19:28-30. Just before He died, Jesus declared, “It is finished” (John 19:30). In English it's three words, but in Greek it's a single, triumphant word: Tetelestai—a perfect passive verb meaning the work has been fully accomplished, and its effects continue on and on. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef unpacks why that matters for your faith right now. On the cross, Jesus completed everything necessary for salvation—atonement for sin, forgiveness, reconciliation with the Father, and an everlasting place in God's family. And because Christ's sacrifice is sufficient, its life-changing power continues to reach people from every nation as they confess Jesus as Lord and believe God raised Him from the dead. Dr. Youssef also reminds us this has always been God's plan: Old Testament believers were saved by faith in what God would accomplish through the coming Messiah. From Genesis to the prophets to the Psalms, Scripture anticipated the moment the serpent-crushing Savior would declare, Tetelestai—and nothing can separate those in Christ from God's love. This episode calls you to rest in the finished work of Jesus—and to proclaim it boldly to a world still trying to earn what Christ has already completed. Prayer: Lord, I praise You that it is finished! By Your incredible grace, You have redeemed me from the grave. May I lovingly and boldly share Your Good News with those You put in my life. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. “When he had received the drink, Jesus said, ‘It is finished.' With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit” (John 19:30). Learn more in Dr. Michael A. Week 4 | It Is Finished (2015)We're in a series of sermons from Darrell that correspond with Lent and the Easter season. It is called "The Theatre of Glory" and was delivered by Darrell in 2015 at First Baptist Church in Vancouver. In this message from John 19:17–37, Darrell carefully walks us through the scene of the crucifixion and the moment Jesus declares, “It is finished.” Drawing our attention to the details John records, Darrell helps us see how the cross fulfills the whole story of Scripture—revealing Jesus as the true King, the great High Priest, and the Passover Lamb. As he unpacks the text, we're invited to see the cross not simply as a tragic ending, but as the decisive moment where God's saving work is completed and a new world begins. We're also excited to share that a new book from Darrell is being released on March 20. The book is titled It Is Finished: Meditations on the Death of Jesus. This short collection of reflections offers rich perspectives on the cross and the meaning of Jesus' crucifixion. Our team has been working hard to have it ready in time for Good Friday, so it can be something you read and reflect on as you consider Christ's death and what it means for us today. Herb’s message centered on the meaning and implications of Jesus’ declaration: “It is finished.” He emphasized that this phrase signals the completion of Christ’s work on the cross—not only the forgiveness of sin but also the destruction of sin’s power over believers. ### 1. Identity in Christ Herb taught that when a person is born again: • They become a spirit being living in a physical body. • Their old “sin nature” is gone, and they receive a godly nature. • They become the righteousness of God, fully accepted by the Father. This identity isn’t something believers work toward—they already possess it because of Christ. ### 2. The Finished Work Herb repeatedly stressed that everything needed for life and godliness is already completed: • Believers already have spiritual blessings, authority, faith, and anointing. • Asking God for what He has already given is unnecessary; instead, believers should walk in those truths. • “It is finished” means believers have full access to God’s provision, strength, and Spirit. ### 3. Spirit vs. Flesh A major theme was the ongoing internal battle: • The spirit knows God’s truth and desires to follow it. • The flesh (body + unrenewed mind) resists, acts on impulses, and focuses on limitations. • Transformation occurs through renewing the mind with scripture—training the flesh to submit to spiritual truth. Herb illustrated this with Romans 7 (the struggle of the flesh) and Romans 8 (victory in the Spirit). ### 4. Living Out the Victory Herb urged believers to: • Stop identifying with struggle and start identifying with victory. • Speak to problems with the authority God has already provided. • Replace negative self‑talk (“I can’t”, “I’m sick”, “It’s impossible”) with faith-filled confession rooted in scripture. ### 5. Cooperative Transformation Herb emphasized that: • God works from inside out—the Spirit transforms the believer gradually. • Faith grows “one scripture at a time.” • Believers should cooperate with the Holy Spirit instead of relying on their own efforts. ### 6. Application Herb challenged listeners to: • See themselves as God sees them—righteous, empowered, Spirit-led. • Thank God for what is already accomplished. • Read Romans 8 repeatedly until its truth becomes experiential. • Walk daily in the finished work rather than striving through human effort.

Mary's Journey from Grief to Joy - Mary came to the tomb seeking closure, not resurrection. Her encounter with the risen Jesus transformed her sorrow into purpose, demonstrating how Jesus can "put you back together" regardless of your struggle. The Resurrection's Transformative Power - The disciples went from hiding in fear to becoming the foundation of Christian faith because of "none other than the undisputed resurrection of King Jesus." This message explores how the historical events of Easter continue to impact lives today. Whether you're seeking to understand how much Jesus loves you, considering giving your life to Him, or finding yourself "in a deep, dark, heavy moment" needing to come back to faith, discover how the cross and resurrection offer more than religious tradition—they provide the power to transform your story completely. It's hard to comprehend all that Jesus endured on the cross. We cannot begin to fathom the torture and suffering He went through. We should forever appreciate and never lose sight of what Jesus was willing to do on behalf of all humankind. He became the ultimate sacrifice, so that we could live forever. "It Is Finished!" That, says the scriptures, THE CROSS is an:OFFENSE.The meaning, the thought, the application of the cross is indeed an offense to the NATURAL MAN. That is, the man or woman who has no belief in Christianity. This natural person, man or woman, is offended by the notion of the cross. In fact, this anti-Christian person is offended by anything about the cross, including the blood of Jesus Christ. For Christians, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, Jesus of Nazareth, was the act of the son of God who laid down his life for mankind, for the sins of man and woman, and without, says the scriptures, this shedding of blood there is:NO REMISSION FOR SIN.None at all.But the concept of sin generally and the need of humankind to accept that propitiation for sin is offensive, even mythological. Some critics, atheistic, even go so far as to call the crucifixion and the shedding of blood:BARBARIC.They go back to the Old Testament, to the very book of Genesis, where there was a sacrifice of an animal, the shedding of that animal's blood as atonement, remission for sins, declaring that to be barbaric as well. But, again, for Christians, without the shedding of blood, the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, there is no remission for sins, none at all. Sin and blood, and of course crucifixion, say the natural man and woman, is ridiculous mythology and stokes the passions of these anti-Christians in this day and age, perhaps as never before. But sin, the coming short of the glory of God is indeed a reality. In fact, it is everywhere in deed and in heart. Evil is a reality, and there really is no cure for it, except ONE! And that is the saving grace of our Lord clearly manifested to us at Calvary, Golgotha, THE CROSS. Thank God for the cross and Christ!Jesus of Nazareth was tried before Pilate, and the verdict was:I FIND NO FAULT IN HIM!But the mob cried out:CRUCIFY HIM! CRUCIFY HIM!Pilate, politician that he was, honored the tradition of the time, to release a prisoner to them and Pilate chose Barrabus over Jesus, so much for justice. To Calvary, he went. Weakened as he was, Simon of Cyrene was conscripted by the Romans to carry the cross of Christ and the Golgotha drama began. Nails were driven into his hands and feet, and there he hung, suffering, parched with a terrible thirst, the crown of thorns on His head causing his blood to drip and his spirit to yearn for the end. He felt all alone, even abandoned by His Father, as he took upon himself the sins of the world, of you and me. In that lonely state, he cried out:MY GOD, MY GOD WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?But then, mercifully, it was over. And his parting words were:IT IS FINISHED!That ultimate act of redemption was accomplished once and for all, for all mankind, for you and for me. There were those at the time who saw the event, witnessed the horrible act of Roman crucifixion, and watched the innocent Jesus of Nazareth suffer. They witnessed his body taken down from that cross, and the man Joseph, wrapping it in fine linen and laying the precious body of Jesus Christ in that very own and special tomb. That was Friday, but then came Sunday. On the third day, this son of the living God, with the power of God, rose from the dead, and accomplished the greatest event in human history:THE RESURRECTION.Up from the grave he arose, with a mighty triumph o'er his foes. He arose the victor from the dark domain, and he lives forever with his saints to reign. Blessed are we, by the millions and millions, who have never seen but who believe, nonetheless.BLESSED ARE WE!And we are indeed, for Gentile and Jew, anyone for that matter, all humankind, can have the incredible benefits of the crucifixion and the resurrection, a life of reconciliation here and life eternal there. Death is destroyed, for there now is no more death. We who believe will live eternally with Him so that the life we now live is redeemed, cleansed, and forgiven by His BLOOD. And we will be raised like HIM in our very own resurrection morning to know HIM and to live eternally with HIM.Thank God for that third day. Life here and now is one of joy, unspeakable rejoicing, praise, worship, and thanksgiving because of this great offense, the cross of Jesus Christ, the crucifixion, and the resurrection. So, my fellow Christians, on Easter Sunday and every other day, may we praise God for Jesus of Nazareth, and:THANK GOD FOR HIS UNSPEAKABLE GIFT!
In Week 3 of our Finished series, we trace the story from the garden to the cross—where shame first entered through sin and where Jesus ultimately declared, "It is finished." Through scriptures like Genesis 3 and John 19, we see that Jesus' finished work on the cross breaks the power of shame and invites us into a life of authenticity with God and others. Pastor Matt unpacks how the gospel frees us to stop hiding and start living fully known and fully loved. For more information about Integrity Church, visit our website, http://liveintegritychurch.org Connect with us on social media throughout the week to stay up to date on events and things happening at Integrity! John 19:30 “It Is Finished”Series: John Preacher: Will SpinkSunday MorningDate: 6th April 2025Passage: John 19:30
In this episode, our friend Sam Rogers discusses the impact and significance of Jesus' words when He said, "It Is Finished" in His dying moments.
"It Is Finished" - These were the last words spoken by our Lord before he gave up his life as a ransom for many. But there were several critical moments that lead up to this very scene. Moments filled with confusion, anxiousness, worship, and wonder. In this short mini-series leading up to resurrection morning, we will walk with Jesus "Before It Is Finished" watching his boldness, loyalty and resoluteness to accomplish what no one else could. --- Our salvation.
On the cross, Jesus declared, “It is finished”—words that mark the complete and final accomplishment of our redemption.Today, as we continue The Gospel: One Sign at a Time, our year-long journey through the Gospel of John, we turn to John 19. Jesus Did It; It Is Finished! Hebrews 1:3 3The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
Author Jeff4Truth wrote his first book "It Is Finished, Believe The Unbelievable" as a believer in the Christian faith. Jeff wrote his new book "Jesus Demigod, Putting "The Lord" on Trial" as a nonbeliever and mythicist. He joins to make the case that not only did Jesus not exist, but the Romans were the ones who created him. This is a must hear episode! More at dogmadebate.com
Tullian is a graduate of Columbia International University, where he received a degree in Philosophy, and Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, where he earned his Master of Divinity. A grandson of (Evangelist) Billy and Ruth Graham, Tullian was the Founding Pastor of the former New City Church (in Fort Lauderdale, Florida) which merged with the historic Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in 2009. He served there as Senior Pastor until June 2015. Tullian has written eight books including, It Is Finished: 365 Days of Good News (2015), One Way Love: Inexhaustible Grace for an Exhausted World (2013), Glorious Ruin: How Suffering Sets You Free (2012), and Jesus + Nothing = Everything (2011) which won Christianity Today's Book of the Year in 2011. Both “Glorious Ruin” and “Jesus + Nothing = Everything” were ECPA finalists for Book of the Year. He also served as a Contributing Editor to various publications and traveled extensively around the country speaking at conferences, churches, universities, and seminaries. Tullian has appeared on Sean Hannity, Fox & Friends, 60 Minutes, CBS News, The Ingraham Angle, Morning Joe, the 700 Club, and many other TV and radio outlets. During his time at Coral Ridge, Tullian founded LIBERATE—a ministry that sought to “connect God's inexhaustible grace to an exhausted world” through annual conferences (2011–2015), training, book and music publishing, daily blog posts, a daily radio program, and a weekly TV broadcast—and then it all came crashing down in late spring of 2015. As a result of infidelity, he resigned, LIBERATE was closed, his first marriage ended in divorce, and life as he knew it came to an end. In the aftermath of his season of self-destruction, Tullian met his current wife Stacie—a native Texan. They have been married since August 2016, and together they have five children and two grandchildren. Unlike Tullian, Stacie comes from a long history of family brokenness. Adultery, addiction, and abuse make up just a small portion of the many dysfunctional narratives of her large and extended family. When Stacie was 18, she became an unwed teenage mom. Over the next 17 years, she experienced much pain and loss—infidelity, two marriages, and two divorces. All of those hard and painful experiences taught her much about sin and grace, desperation, and deliverance. And as a result, she developed a huge burden for people who have crashed and burned, people who are recovering from their own damaged lives. In the years following Tullian's crash and burn, he was nursed back to health by a handful of seasoned pastors, counselors, and friends, in addition to his loving wife, Stacie. Then in 2017, they started traveling and speaking at churches, recovery places, and other gatherings about how God heals broken people. In early 2019, after being out of pastoral ministry for nearly four years, a group of people from Jupiter, Florida, approached Tullian and Stacie about the possibility of starting a new church. After months of conversations and meetings, prayer and counsel—and with the unequivocal blessing and support of their pastor and the elders of their home church in Cape Coral—Tullian and Stacie relocated to Palm Beach County to start The Sanctuary.
