In this episode of Don't Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study the books of Ruth and 1 Samuel and explore stories of covenant love, redemption, grief, and revelation. Through the story of Ruth, they focus on the kind of love that goes beyond obligation and expectation. After Naomi loses her husband and sons, Ruth refuses to leave her side and instead makes the covenant declaration, “whither thou goest, I will go.” Dave and Grace describe Ruth as a story of radical kindness and “love outside the lines,” showing how covenant relationships are ultimately rooted in loyalty, compassion, and caring for others. The episode also centers on Naomi's grief and redemption. Naomi returns to Bethlehem feeling completely empty, bitter, and forgotten after losing everything she once had. Yet throughout the story, God quietly begins restoring what was lost through the kindness of Ruth and Boaz. Dave explains the biblical role of a “redeemer” as someone who restores another person to belonging, safety, and hope, ultimately pointing to Jesus Christ as the Great Redeemer. Grace reflects on how healing often comes through the love and mercy of others, reminding listeners that God does not abandon people in their grief and that empty places in life can still become full again. The discussion then shifts to Hannah and Samuel in 1 Samuel, where Hannah's desperate prayer for a child becomes a powerful example of faithful pleading before God. After years of sorrow, Hannah pours out her soul to the Lord and eventually receives the miracle she longed for in the birth of Samuel. Grace especially highlights Hannah's willingness to dedicate Samuel back to God, showing a faith rooted in surrender and trust. The hosts also focus on young Samuel learning to recognize the voice of the Lord, emphasizing the hopeful phrase “Samuel did not yet know the Lord.” They teach that many people feel forgotten or believe God has never spoken to them, but Samuel's story reminds us that God continues calling patiently and persistently until His children learn to recognize His voice. Throughout the episode, Dave and Grace return again and again to the reminder that God remembers, speaks, restores, and helps His people. From Ruth's loyalty, to Naomi's redemption, to Hannah's prayers, to Samuel hearing the Lord's voice, every story points to a God who does not give up on His children. The episode closes with Samuel building an “Ebenezer,” a memorial stone of help, as a reminder that God had answered and delivered them before. Together, these chapters become an invitation to remember the moments God has spoken, rescued, redeemed, and carried us through difficult seasons, even when His voice or His timing felt far away. In our fast-paced world, it is easy to trade prayer for productivity. But without prayer, we become easy targets for the enemy. Discover how prioritizing daily prayer acknowledges your absolute dependence on God and secures His guidance for your life today.
Final exams. The day of the big race. The job interview. These moments of great pressure won't break us if we've invested in the right kind of preparation—preparation that fits the pressure. In Luke 22:39–53, we come to what Jesus calls, "the hour and power of darkness." The arrival of his arresting party begins his passion. What kind of preparation could possibly ready Jesus for this moment? Simply, the preparation of prayer—regular, honest, and submissive conversation with the Father. What's good for Jesus is surely good for us.
Father Marcel Taillon joins Patrick to discuss Trusting God What is trust and what is trust not? (15:03) Elsa - I have experience trusting and completely surrendering. Quit my job in November. Prayed, hoped, and surrendered. Gave myself to God. He's always come through, maybe not in the way I wanted, but he had something amazing for me - a job at a Catholic church. How can our trust for God be brought up through other things? (21:59) How does God fix things in our life? (26:58) Break 1 Jerome - We pray for other people, for ourselves, etc. I know everything is God's will. I feel like when I pray, I try to give it to God, but not having faith if God's not fixing it. (39:30) Jo - We're raising a child who is now 15. Had her for 13. Suffered neglect and abuse. Her mom died and father not in picture. She has no trust. What advice can you give me? (43:52) How can we trust actively?
So what do you do when life does not turn out the way you prayed for it to?I share about one of the biggest struggles I faced during my divorce. Not questioning whether God could restore something, but wrestling with the reality that He simply wasn't going to. We talk about the tension of knowing God is capable of miracles while also learning that faith cannot be conditional to getting the outcome we want.We look at the story in Mark where Jesus says, “Let the little children come to me,” and what it truly means to have childlike faith. Not naive faith. Not perfect faith. But dependent, honest, trusting faith that still reaches for God even when we do not fully understand what He is doing. This episode is for anyone carrying disappointment, grief, confusion, or unanswered prayers. I want to encourage you that even when life feels uncertain, God will absolutely meet you there. Sometimes He changes the situation. Sometimes He changes us. And I've learned that both, are beautiful. And both, hold so much purpose. We may not understand everything we walk through, but God does not waste pain. And what you've been through may become the very thing that helps someone else heal. What a holy gift that is.Go to https://betterhelp.com/hopemoquin for 10% off your first month of therapy with BetterHelp and get matched with a therapist who will listen and help #sponsoredBook a call - https://stan.store/hopemoquinINSTAGRAM- www.instagram.com/hopemoquinTIKTOK - https://www.tiktok.com/@hopemoquin
Can you think of a prayer God didn't answer the way you wanted — one that left you confused, disappointed, maybe even questioning whether He was listening at all? And can you look back on it now and see what you couldn't see then? The relationship that would have hurt you. The door that stayed closed because what was behind it wasn't what you thought. The delay that felt like abandonment but was actually preparation. What once felt like God ignoring you now looks unmistakably like God protecting you. Isaiah 55:8-9 holds one of the most quietly liberating truths in all of Scripture: God's thoughts are not our thoughts, and His ways are infinitely higher than ours. That gap between what we ask for and what He gives is not a sign of His indifference — it is the evidence of His wisdom. He is not answering our prayers based on what feels good right now. He is answering based on the full picture of our lives, including the parts we cannot yet see. A closed door is not a forgotten prayer. A delayed answer is not a dismissed one. And a "no" from a God who loves us completely is one of the most profound forms of grace we will ever receive — even if it takes years to recognize it as such. Today is an invitation to look back with gratitude, and to let what God has already done in the past deepen your trust in what He is doing right now. Interested in creating something new with us? Take Our Newsletter Survey! Today's Bible Verse "'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,' declares the LORD. 'As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.'" — Isaiah 55:8-9, NIV Ponder Today What once felt like God ignoring us often looks, in hindsight, like God protecting us — the perspective of time has a way of revealing His wisdom in ways we simply could not see in the moment. God's "no" is not a sign that He wasn't listening — it is evidence that He was, and that He cared enough to answer based on what was truly best rather than what we thought we wanted. God answers our prayers based on the full picture of our lives, not just the immediate moment — His timing is not slow, it is precise, and His pace is always set by love. Gratitude has the power to transform confusion into trust — when we thank God for the prayers He didn't answer the way we hoped, we are released from regret and invited into deeper faith. Closed doors and delayed answers are not punishments — they are forms of grace, keeping us from situations we didn't know were dangerous and preparing us for what is truly good. Today's Prayer Dear God, thank You for the prayers You didn't answer the way or when I wanted You to. I can see now that Your wisdom was protecting me when I couldn't protect myself — You knew what I didn't, and You loved me enough to say no. I am letting go of my regrets and releasing the confusion I have carried. Help me trust that Your higher thoughts and higher ways always lead to what is truly best for me. Teach me to let go of what is not good for me, and give me the confidence that I am not missing out because You are always working for my good. Thank You for loving me so wisely. I love You, God. Mother's Day looks different for everyone, and Mrs Rose doesn't pretend otherwise. In this message from New Vision Church in Fayetteville, Georgia, she opens up what Scripture says about motherhood — how it's defined more by presence and action than biology, how women were woven into the ministry of Jesus from the beginning, and what it means to speak life over someone instead of tearing them down. If somebody prayed for you, this is a good day to pray for somebody else.New Vision Church — A community to belong, be loved, and believe.

Sunday Evening Sermon
John 17:1-11; God left the door ajar and we listened in to one of Jesus' longest recorded prayers in the Scriptures. What did Jesus say to God during His private time with His Father?
Pastor Gerrit shares a Mother's Day message from 1 Samuel 1, exploring the story of Hannah and what her life reveals about God's faithfulness in ordinary, painful circumstances. Hannah was a woman who wanted children but couldn't have them, mocked by a rival and overlooked by her culture, yet she brought her grief to God in raw, honest prayer rather than giving up or growing bitter. God didn't just answer her request, he shaped her desires, gave her peace before anything changed, and worked through her surrender to accomplish something far bigger than she had imagined. Hannah's story shows that God is drawn to ordinary people in real pain, and that worship isn't a response to getting what you want but a recognition of who God is.

What if your life is already headed in a direction… and you didn't choose it?Psalm 1 says there are only two ways to live and only one leads to flourishing. In this opening teaching of a new series on the Psalms, John Ortberg invites us into one of the most important questions we can ask: What is my way of life leading to?Psalm 1 describes a person who is “blessed”—not just happy, but deeply rooted, steady, and flourishing. And it contrasts that life with another path we can slowly drift into without even noticing. Through reflection, story, and guided prayer, this teaching helps you examine your own direction and begin to re-center your life around God.You'll also be invited to actually pray the Psalm—to let it shape your thoughts, your desires, and your daily decisions.

This show combines all seven episodes on this series of the 7 Last Words into one seamless show! Part 1 Fr. John Eckert joins Patrick for the start of a special Lenten Series on the 7 Last Words of Jesus – today’s topic, Forgiveness What was he scene of the Crucifixion? How is trust in God the Father shown in this word? (16:20) Jason - I grew up in a tough household. Joined military at 17. Mom had mental illness, dad was a military man and constantly gone. Haven't seen them for years. Fighting with forgiveness and it's a battle on a daily basis. Interested if there's specific scripture or guidance to help. (25:20) Break 1 Who put Jesus on the Cross? (30:56) Linda - Why is it that a parent can forgive their children, but children are unable to forgive and hold onto things and not easily forgive us? (35:33) Jim - I'm at a point where there are family members that have been disrespectful to me and children. Children are older now, but family member favors one over the other because they are the godparent. Prayed about forgiving, confession, adoration, etc. I'm at a point where I don't want anything bad to happen, but don't want to be around them. Is that holding on to a grudge? (40:02) Break 2 (41:20) How is Forgiveness something we can strive for in our lives? Yolie – Is it mandatory to forgive others? Part 2 (48:28) IL – Fr. James Kubicki joins Patrick for the second of a special Lenten Series on the 7 Last Words of Jesus – today’s topic: Repentance Who was St. Dismas? (56:21) where does the word repentance come from? (1:05:59) Deacon Shawn - I think the comment about conversion vs repentance is tied together. Reading a book. Repentance is a big part of it. Self-reliance on God vs. Surrender. Deeper conversion helps navigate. (1:09:26) Break 1 (1:10:21) Gene - I was in a car accident 15 years ago. Someone was killed in the accident. I was convicted of vehicular homicide. Incarcerated for it. I felt and rationalized that if they weren't in the middle of the highway, this wouldn't have happened. Last 5 years, I've been in repentance in the dark night of the soul. Mourning and not rationalizing now. What is the meaning of the word “today” you will be with me in paradise? (1:24:31) Break 2 Bonnie - Repentance and conviction of the Holy Spirit. Adult children have cut me off. I'm focusing on my part. I can't fix it or fix anybody. The goodness of the holy spirit and that can bring us repentance and help us to surrender to the will of God. Accepting the consequences. (1:29:19) John - My problem was I felt I couldn't be forgiven for the sins I committed. When I repented, it was very difficult. I still struggle. Nicole - Question - speaking about what I've been pondering. I told my friend I don't hold on to any past sins, and I know it's a sin to not accept God's mercy. In my dream last night, I feel something was being revealed from a past sin. Had desire to go to confession. How do I go to priest about it? Wondering if I confessed it. Part 3 (1:36:22) Fr. Joseph Johnson joins Patrick for the third of a special Lenten Series on the 7 Last Words of Jesus – today’s topic: Mary’s Role at the Cross (1:39:48) What is the context in these words of Jesus from the Cross? What Who does John represent in this scene? (1:49:48) What is Mary’s role in the Passion of our Lord? (1:54:30) Break 1 What are practical ways in which we can share in the passion of Christ? (2:01:40) Jim - My mother is starting to fail. My wife asked who should we pray for as a caregiver. We stopped thinking about the saints and then turned to Jesus on the cross. Jesus found a caregiver for his own mother. Found great consolation. Kurt - Redemptive suffering and joining to Christ on the cross. Very rarely do I hear anyone talking about that. We not only have that opportunity, but for the redemption of the world. We are commanded to that in John 15 and John 13. I give you a new commandment... There's no greater good than to offer suffering for them. (2:10:07) Break 2 How does the prophecy of Simeon play a role in Mary’s heart at the Cross? (2:14:16) what can we expect from the love of Mary and how it helps us in our lives? (2:17:01) Sharon - When my son died. I identified with Mary for release. My son was 50 and died of a rare cancer. The loss was something I knew she understood. Gave me a great deal of help during that time. Michelle - Abortion and aborted children. Great sorrow. I delivered that child into Mary's hands. Part 4 (2:24:40) Msgr. Tom Richter joins Patrick for the fourth of a special Lenten Series on the 7 Last Words of Jesus – today’s topic, Spiritual Abandonment The Allusions of Control. (2:33:33) Jesus and Psalm 22. (2:46:04) Break 1 (2:46:50) Tom - I've always wondered if Jesus felt because of his humanity we as human would feel abandoned by God. Was that an expression of his human feeling because he was fully human. How can Christ feel he was abandoned? if he were fully human, he would feel that way. Can you explain that? (2:50:50) How Jesus abandoned Himself to God. How can we trust that God still loves us through the challenging times in our life? (3:03:17) Break 2 How can we cultivate Faith in our lives? (4:38:33) Break 2 (4:40:45) The enduring wounds of Jesus even after it is finished. Jesus Shouts, it is Finished! Part 7 (4:48:14) IL – Fr. John Paul Erickson joins Patrick for the last chapter of our special Lenten Series on the 7 Last Words of Jesus – today’s topic: “Total Surrender to God” (4:54:32) What is the connection to the Psalms and this last word of Jesus? Where do you turn when life feels uncertain? When the future is unclear… When relationships are strained… When anxiety, grief, or pressure starts to build… Most of us reach for hope—but often it's the kind of hope that depends on circumstances working out. In John 17, Jesus offers something deeper. On the night before the cross, Jesus prays—not just for His disciples, but for all who would follow Him. That includes you. In this message, we explore what Jesus prays for His people and what it reveals about the kind of hope that can actually hold us steady when life feels shaky. This sermon walks through: What Jesus means by “eternal life” The difference between knowing about God and truly knowing Him Why Jesus prays for our protection, unity, and joy What it means to be “set apart” and sent into the world How to live faithfully without blending in—or fighting back The powerful truth that Jesus prayed for you At the center of this prayer is a stunning reality: The same love the Father has for the Son is given to you. That kind of love produces a different kind of hope—one that doesn't collapse when circumstances do.

What happens when you pray for hours… and nothing happens? In this highly anticipated episode, David Diga Hernandez shares the raw and real story of desperately seeking God—trying everything he knew: prayer, worship, scripture, and intercession... yet still feeling nothing. After four hours of striving, frustration turned into surrender:“I don't know how to pray… I don't know how to find Jesus.”And that's when everything changed.David describes the moment the presence of Jesus filled his room, what it felt like physically, from electric-like sensations to overwhelming peace and joy, and how that encounter completely transformed his understanding of the Holy Spirit. We also dive into:• What it actually feels like when the power of God moves• The reality of being slain in the Spirit• Why some people fall—and others don't• The difference between a real encounter vs. emotional hype or faking it• How to discern what's genuine vs. forced• Why so many believers struggle to experience what they read in the Book of ActsThis is an honest, deep, and sometimes controversial conversation about encountering God, surrender, and the true work of the Holy Spirit. If you've ever felt stuck, skeptical, or hungry for more of God, this episode will challenge and encourage you.

What if some demons aren't repelled by scripture but are attracted to it? After a minor car accident, a husband in suburban Iowa becomes more devout than ever. At first, it feels like some sort of spiritual awakening. But what if he opened a door that something stepped through. Then, we head to a small English parish in 2006, when a devoted family allegedly watched their son grow closer to God after a youth retreat. But when he began reciting scripture backwards, praying throughout the night, and knowing things he shouldn't know, his parents began to wonder if his new devotion wasn't directed towards the right deity. Lynze's first tale might not start off sounding that different. Wait for it. The white woman has plans for a young child. Off to Greece we go to explore a possible curse of the evil eye. Matt Smallbone is the pastor of Church of the City's downtown campus here in Nashville, and we're continuing with a bit of a theme today as we talk again this week about The Lord's Prayer. Every time we talk about it during this prayer series though, I feel like there's something new to see and something deeper to understand. It's wild how a prayer so familiar, so memorized, so repeated, can still surprise us. Matt has written a brand new book called The Prayer Experiment that comes out in April and you're going to love. We're unpacking all of this over on spirituallystronger.com too, so please come join us as we process together over there! . . . . Thank you to our sponsors!
