Marriage can thrive when a wife willingly SUBMITS to her husband, 18 Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Colossians 3:18 19 Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. John 5:19 49 For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. 50 I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.” John 12:49 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:42 and a husband willingly SACRIFICES for his wife. 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. Colossians 3:19 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Philippians 2:5-8 42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:42-45

God designed marriage. It was his plan and so it functions best when done according to His design.

Marriage is a beautiful picture of Jesus' love for the church. Because of that, the relationship between husbands and wives is very important. Colossians 3:18-19 reminds us of what marriage is about and how the gospel impacts our view of marriage.
