This sermon concludes the three-week series "God Our Home," connecting the longing for God's presence with the reality of Christmas. We recap that God's desire to dwell with His people is the entire storyline of the Bible—from Eden to the New Creation. However, significant barriers like disobedience, shame, lies, and God's holiness keep us from experiencing this intimacy.The Good News of Christmas is that Jesus came to address every single barrier. He is the "obedience of the one" that makes many righteous. He clothes our shame so we can hide in Him rather than from Him. He reveals the true nature of the Father, dispelling lies. We are just a few days away from finishing our study through Acts, as we find ourselves today in chapter twenty-seven. Paul and his companions are headed back to Rome, and as often happens, they encounter some pretty severe weather. This sermon is a call to move from attendance to belonging, and from belonging to real relationships. Starting in Acts 2, we see the early church become a family marked by shared life, shared burdens, shared meals, and shared mission, showing us that God doesn't just save individuals…He places the lonely in families. This message challenges the myth that you have to become something before you belong in a church. Belonging comes first, and God uses community to form who we are. Let's take an intentional step toward connection, whether through membership, groups, serving, or simply choosing to be present, as we build a church where Jesus is the cornerstone and love is the evidence that we are His disciples.

This is part two of Kristin's story. I highly recommend  listening to part one first if you haven't already! After a long and difficult preconception journey with her first child, Kristin was elated when she conceived her second with ease. This time she hired a midwife and planned the home birth she had always wanted while also receiving co-care from her medical doctor. Her doctor did not approve of home birth and often spoke to her from a place of fear, yet Kristin stayed committed to her plan. Eventually, she chose to stop seeing the doctor altogether. With the support of her husband and doula, Kristin welcomed her daughter into her arms after a labor so fast that the midwife did not arrive in time. She describes her home birth as exactly what she needed to heal the trauma of her previous experience. Desire is intrinsic to all living forms – the urge to exist and flourish. It turns to suffering when, due to unmet needs, it contracts, intensifies and separates us from our full aliveness and awareness.
