While editing a piece on a routine traffic stop that resulted in the death of a police officer and a major political official (Larry Fessenden, Dementer, Jakob's Wife), Jake is inadvertently sent dashcam video evidence that tells a completely different story. Working alone from his small apartment in NYC, Jake uses his skills as an editor to analyze the footage and piece together the truth behind what actually happened. Has Jake uncovered a conspiracy that he can break on the morning news? Or is he seeing things that aren't really there? Synopsis There are some operas which are rarely – if ever – staged, but whose music becomes famous – even wildly popular—in the concert hall. Everyone has heard the overture to Rossini's “William Tell,” for example, but only a few fortunate (or very determined) opera fans ever get to see the whole opera staged. Zoltán Kodály's opera “Háry János” falls into this strange class of works both popular AND obscure. This comic opera debuted at the Royal Hungarian Opera House in Budapest on today's date in 1926 and recounts the adventures of an old veteran of the Napoleonic Wars named “Háry János.” In the village tavern, Háry boasts of his heroic exploits: how he singlehandedly won a battle against Napoleon, for example, and how the Emperor's Wife fell in love with him, and she would have run off with him if he'd wanted, but he chose to remain true to his Hungarian sweetheart back home. You get the idea… Kodály's opera was a hit in Budapest but was not taken up elsewhere. But a concert suite of excerpts from its brilliant score depicting Háry János's imaginary adventures became a popular showpiece for orchestras, an unbeatable combination of great tunes, colorful orchestration, and smile-inducing wit. Music Played in Today's Program Zoltán Kodály (1882 – 1967) — Háry János Suite (Budapest Festival Orchestra; Ivan Fischer, cond.) Philips 462 824

When you consider that there are over 3 million reported incidents of domestic violence every year in the United States, mostly against women, you know we have a problem. Here is the bottom line: spousal abuse of any kind is prohibited by Jewish law. Those authorities who "fuled" that wives may be beaten by their husbands are offering their opinions, often influenced by the broader culture in which they lived—but those "rulings" have no support in the Torah or the Talmud.Support the show (http://www.shammai.org)

Blessing Bob's Wife, Cheryl Pastor Bob Enyart, known for his unwavering Pro-Life work, daily radio show, and Christian ministry, has gone to be with the Lord at the age of 62. After a week of caring for his wife, who had recently contracted COVID-19, Bob was admitted into Lutheran Medical Center, where he passed away. We are all devastated by his loss. Everyone who knew Bob, knew that his dedication to serving the Lord and serving others was immense. Always willing to drop everything, and run to help anyone in need. Even as he neared death, he cared for his family. He honored the Lord his entire life, bringing untold thousands to Christ. Before heading into the ICU, the last thing Bob reminded us was that, "God is good, all the time." His death leaves his wife, Cheryl, in a difficult financial situation. She's unprepared for the high cost of a funeral service, medical bills, and living expenses. We want to give Bob the memorial he deserves, and to bless his wife by removing any financial burdens. We humbly ask for your prayers and financial support, if you are at all able. We are so very grateful for every donation during this difficult time.

Steve Roberts has experienced life from many different angles. He is an accomplished journalist who has written a nationally syndicated political column. He was the husband of the late Cokie Roberts, who reported for ABC News and National Public Radio and wrote several books, some specializing in women's political history. His mother-in-law as the late Lindy Boggs, who was a member of congress from Louisiana and went on to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the Vatican, and his father-in-law was Hale Boggs, a member of Congress who was on the path to become Speaker of the House before disappearing in an Alaskan plane crash in the '70s. Roberts joins Errol Laborde, executive editor of Louisiana Life, along with podcast producer Kelly Massicot in a memorable interview to discuss his career and his new book about Cokie Roberts. Oh yes, we'll also hear Cokie Roberts' argument made to her mother about why she should accept the Vatican appointment.

Hi Stefan,I am a stay at home mom to a 3 1/2 year old girl. I have a wonderfully supportive husband and a daughter that is smart, loving and very challenging to me.I'm writing to you after having a fit of rage where I find myself saying 'I don't want to be a mother anymore.' Even typing these words I start to feel immense sadness and cry because I know my best self doesn't believe that. I've had these fits more often over the past couple months and they almost seem to get worse. They happen after being with my daughter when she is repeatedly disobeying my wishes to stop climbing on furniture, yelling or hitting. I become overly frustrated and angry and will throw or kick something so hard that it breaks. There have been times when I feel like hitting my child but do not, instead I grab and or forcibly pick up my daughter in a way that is scary to her and is also scary to me. I don't know how else to explain it other than describing these fits as demonic possession. There have been many times I've been able to see myself getting frustrated and I take a deep breath or go for a walk. After I overcome one of these potential fits I believe I've solved the problem and I say to myself, 'that was hard but also kinda easy', only to be caught off guard by this anger again. I was raised by a mother who physically and verbally abused me and I don't want to turn into her. I would like to know better ways on how to manage and eventually stop myself from going to a place of rage when situations get difficult. My ACE score is a 4 which seems low but the lasting effects of the abuse have been difficult to overcome. I realize a huge component of this is confronting my mother...for which I am terrified to do so. I am so ashamed to admit to this behavior because I have listened to your show quite often over the past 4 years, especially to the shows where you cover parenting (which is the root of most of the world's problems). I have found your advice to be very profound and helpful to me over the years. I hear you speak of your daughter and your relationship with her and, quite frankly, I would love a relationship like that with my daughter.I have gone through some therapy which has helped illuminate some of the inner workings of my subconscious and shadow. I still talk to a therapist once every 6 mo. (which I realize is pathetically seldom) and read up on respectful parenting but have a hard time committing to the hard work (which sounds like another problem). I would extremely appreciate a conversation or any advice you may have for me.
The October Spooktacular continues! This week we're joined by Mike Hochins of Canadian death metal horror punks, VHS. We're sitting down to talk 2021 Shudder release Jakob's Wife, which is in some ways the How Stella Got Her Groove Back of vampire flicks. Starring Barbara Crampton in the delightful titular role and featuring Larry Fassbender Fessenden as the aforementioned Jakob, Jakob's Wife is a tight 90-minute exploration of a small town preacher's wife stuck in an increasingly shitty marriage - until some dang vampires come to town. If you're looking for a horror movie that challenges your preconceptions about vampire tales, speaks frankly about aging and relationships, and offers The Man Behind The Diner from Mulholland Drive as a vampiric force of liberation, this might be the movie for you. We loved it and we had a great time discussing it. Lemme know what you think in the comments. NEXT WEEK: We're watching Ravenous (1999) with a very special guest - our own Rolderathis!
