As my father, Steve Peavyhouse, joins me once again in a heartfelt journey through the stanzas of "Blessed Assurance," we unravel the story of Fanny J. Crosby's timeless hymn that has fortified believers' faith for generations. Together, we trace the lineage of this sacred song from its inception, when a simple melody from Phoebe Knapp stirred Crosby's soul, to its role as a beacon of hope throughout history. Our conversation not only celebrates the spiritual depth found within Crosby's lyrics but also the emotional resonance that transcends the mere notes on a page, offering solace during life's unpredictable twists and turns.Imagine finding strength and clarity not despite your challenges, but because of them. This episode delves into the profound truth that sometimes our greatest insights into God's grace come through what we perceive as weaknesses. Inspired by Crosby's own journey, we contemplate the conundrum of physical blindness opening the eyes of the soul. Our musings extend to personal battles, like grappling with a stutter, and how these hurdles can unveil the sufficiency of God's grace in our lives. In a world that often looks for "saviors" in the wrong places, this episode is a testament to the joy and worth we find when the cross of Christ looms large in our lives—giving us an assurance that withstands all of life's storms and speaks to the very core of our being. Join us for a journey of faith, identity, and the unshakeable assurance we have in the love that was secured for us on the cross.SHOW LINKS:"Blessed Assurance" performed by Nathan Drake of Reawaken Hymns with chord charts and many other church music resources."Blessed Assurance" appears on the album Hymns of the Son available here. The book I talk about on the podcast that explains the idea of the how the cross should "loom large" in our lives is found in Show Them Jesus by Jack Klumpenhower.Support the show www.thebrightforever.comAll songs used by permission.
Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney ... Romans 8 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with HIM, that we may be also glorified together. We suffer in our flesh each time we tell what God is doing and has done giving them the opportunity to believe and see God. Some will believe to their benefit others will doubt and even despise us for our words, but we suffer with the Word and we will later reign with the Word for our suffering. Acts 28:28 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not. But we share what God is doing in our life and what God has done in our life, suffering over those words we speak concerning God and Jesus, and allowing God to restore us in all things. 2 Timothy 2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with HIM: if we deny HIM, HE also will deny us: If we love HIM, we speak of HIM, sharing our love of HIM!

Wow, is this true! You ever been around someone you knew from the past before you knew Jesus and all they could talk about is the good ‘ol days? The days when they knew you prior to your relationship with Christ? They look at you and they don't really understand the change that has taken place on the inside. They think it quite strange that you don't want to join them in the activities you used to join them in…You may already know this, but perhaps not, the world is watching you! Your friends, co-workers, family members, and even complete strangers. Why? What is so special about you?! Is there something special about you?! Can I just answer that for you? YES! If you are a born-again believer, Most assuredly yes, there is something remarkable about you! Do you want to know what it is? Here you go:“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”Listen, you are a child of the King of kings, and the Lord of lords! You might not realize it or feel like it, but you are royalty! There is coming a day when you shall rule and reign alongside Jesus! Be encouraged by that today, that no matter what comes your way, no matter what happens to you or around you, you are His and He is yours! Now, let's bring this back a little and look to Jesus - I'm sure you already know this, but Jesus has always been God. Before He was Jesus, He was the second person in the Godhead. Therefore He was, has always been, and will always be God, full of glory, holy, supreme…Yet, during His earthly ministry, He did not use His position as Master of the universe to exact His will on those around Him, instead, He went about doing good and serving others! He is our example of what we should be doing as well. I just wanted to send a little reminder to us today that although we are a royal priesthood, our priority is to serve others, to be a light, to be a witness for Jesus always! The world is watching, what do you want them to see? Are your kids as brave as Daniel, as wise as Solomon, or as humble as Ruth? The answer is probably no on all counts, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. On today's episode of the Great Stories podcast, Charles Morris is joined by gospel teacher, parent, and author Jack Klumpenhower. He wrote a helpful Christ-centered book called Show Them Jesus on how to effectively teach the gospel to children in a way they can internalize it and carry their faith into adulthood. He also has some great insight into how adults can preach the gospel to themselves every day.
