We dig into how prop rules shape strategy, why high win-rate models fit prop better, platform preferences (Tradeovate vs Project X), Topstep for quick payouts vs bigger buffers on Tradeify, and the real cadence of payouts (they arrive in waves). ory dives deep into energy risk management with industry veteran Steve Sinos. Steve, with over 20 years of experience, explains how energy derivatives—from Futures and Options to CFDs—are crucial risk management tools designed to shift, not destroy, market risk. The episode frames this through the practical scenario of advising a regional airline on hedging its largest cost: fuel price exposure. Steve details the non-mechanical, iterative process of understanding controllable versus unknowable factors, emphasizing that effective risk management forces explicit trade-offs to achieve strategic goals. The discussion covers the diverse hedging approaches of airlines and E&P companies, focusing on product selection, instrument choice, and the critical challenge of basis risk. He shares insights on managing for quantifiable success over predicting "black swan" events, and the shift towards optimizing the "efficiency of a risk dollar" for specific cash flow targets. Listeners will also learn about interpreting complex market data like Commitment of Traders (COT) reports to avoid speculative biases and navigating unique market structures, such as the current "smiley curve" in crude futures. This episode underscores the risk manager's role as a "therapist," helping strategic leaders make informed decisions by understanding the sacrifices required to meet their objectives

In this one-year anniversary episode of The Futures Rundown, host Mark Longo celebrates a year of exploring the futures markets. He begins with a brief look back at the show's origins and then dives into the "Trading Pit" segment. This week's top five movers include gains in Midwest Steel, Ultra T-Bond, Coffee, FCOJ, and Dry Whey, while Cash Settled Butter, Rough Rice, Platinum, Ethanol, and the VIX saw declines. Mark notes a surprisingly robust trading day with high volume, highlighting the most active contracts in a mixed market. For the special anniversary segment, he reviews the top and bottom performers over the past year, with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum leading the gains, and agricultural and dairy products like OJ and Cash Settled Butter seeing significant losses. The episode concludes with the "Futures Free for All" Q&A, where a listener asks about the "60/40 thing" in futures. Mark explains Section 1256 contracts and their favorable tax treatment, providing an example of how the 60% long-term and 40% short-term capital gains rule applies to futures profits, a key advantage for frequent traders. You may be missing the biggest bull market right now. Today we share how you can make sure you're a part of it. We talk market trends as we hit September, which has historical weakness for stocks and the tendency for markets to defy consensus expectations. Equities and commodities like oil and natural gas have been lackluster, gold has quietly entered a strong bull market, driven largely by central bank buying rather than retail investors. Investor psychology, price action, and historical cycles shape opportunities in gold and silver markets. We also talk about cultural and global perspectives, noting that Americans tend to favor stocks and dollars over gold. We discuss... September was noted as historically one of the weakest months for stocks, often followed by a rebound later in the year. Markets often defy consensus expectations, meaning heavy selling sentiment could set up a surprise rally. Gold has entered a strong bull market, driven by consistent central bank buying rather than retail investors. Silver has lagged behind gold but is positioned for a potential breakout as individual investors enter the market. Precious metals tend to move in cycles, with gold leading, then silver, followed by miners and junior miners. Mining stocks can outperform in bull markets but generally have poor business models and higher risks. Central banks' distrust of the financial system underpins their growing gold accumulation. Kirk emphasized that gold miners, though risky and often unprofitable, can deliver exponential upside in bull markets. Junior miners were described as the most volatile and speculative plays, offering high risk and high reward. Futures markets were highlighted as distorting bullion's true value and price signals. Central banks are steadily accumulating gold instead of treasuries, signaling waning trust in U.S. debt. U.S. bonds are losing their safe-haven status compared to previous cycles. Political uncertainty, including figures like Trump, adds to market unpredictability. Diversification was stressed as key, since risks are already embedded across today's financial markets. Episode 141 covers a packed slate of returns, retirements, controversies, and major updates shaping the wrestling world. We begin with the biggest story of the week: AJ Lee's long-awaited WWE return. On SmackDown in Chicago, Lee appeared for the first time in a decade to confront Becky Lynch, dropping her with a Thesz press before celebrating with CM Punk. We'll cover the industry-wide reactions, from Saraya and Bayley to the official MLB account, and discuss WWE's reported plans to team Lee and Punk against Lynch and Seth Rollins at Wrestlepalooza. We'll run through his remaining schedule and reflect on what this moment means for one of WWE's greatest stars. From there, we shift to AEW, where Will Ospreay is set for neck surgery that will sideline him for months after battling through injuries at Forbidden Door. We'll also look at AEW's evolving PPV strategy, as All Out becomes the first AEW show available on HBO Max at a discounted $39.99, and the start time has been moved up to 3 p.m. Eastern to avoid a direct clash with WWE's Wrestlepalooza. With Adam Copeland & Christian Cage vs. FTR the first announced match, we discuss the significance of this new distribution model and what it means for AEW's future. On the WWE side, AJ Styles continues to tease retirement, posting a symbolic hourglass graphic as reports confirm his contract expires in early 2026. Meanwhile, Chris Jericho addressed his AEW future, saying he's open to a WWE return once his current deal concludes at year's end. We unpack how both men are positioning their final career chapters. Finally, we examine Matt Riddle's latest controversy, as he no-showed Global Wrestling Kingdom's debut charity event in the UK, only to wrestle unadvertised in Florida the same day. With conflicting accounts between Riddle and the promotion, we review the fallout, his repayment of the deposit, and what this means for his standing on the independent circuit. All this plus updates from across the industry as WWE and AEW prepare for one of the most pivotal months of the year. Ongoing Struggles Over Land and Water California agriculture continues to face pressure from regulatory uncertainty, land use conflicts, and unresolved water projects. In a recent episode of the AgNet News Hour, hosts Nick Papagni and Lorrie Boyer broke down some of the most pressing challenges farmers are up against, from stalled water infrastructure to the growing debate over solar development on farmland. Land Locked and Left Waiting Farm families such as the Oberti operation have been waiting for years to farm ground tied up by state and federal decisions. As Papagni noted, that means four years without almond production—a devastating blow for growers and the local economy. While investors circle California land, many producers see it as a “bridge to nowhere,” with uncertainty keeping fields idle instead of productive. Agrivoltaics and the Push for Solar The conversation then shifted to agrivoltaics, the idea of combining solar energy production with agriculture. While solar developers claim crops or grazing can coexist under solar panels, many California farmers remain skeptical. Boyer highlighted discussions in Kern County, where farmland is increasingly being eyed for solar projects. Farmers argue prime soils should remain dedicated to food production, not power generation. Even within farm groups such as the California Farm Bureau and local county bureaus, divisions remain about how best to balance renewable energy with agriculture. AB1156 and the Williamson Act At the heart of the debate is Assembly Bill 1156, legislation that ties into the California Land Conservation Act of 1965, better known as the Williamson Act. The act allows counties and cities to preserve farmland by restricting its use to agriculture. However, AB1156 opens the door for those contracts to be rescinded in favor of solar-use agreements, a move many growers see as a dangerous precedent. Papagni emphasized that once solar panels are placed in fertile soil, the ground may never recover for farming. He questioned why California leaders push solar development while failing to deliver on longstanding water commitments. Farmers Demand Water Before Solar The frustration runs deep. Farmers argue that water infrastructure must come first, pointing to decades of political inaction. Papagni recalled a 2009 water bill that led to the passage of a $7.45 billion water storage bond in 2014, with overwhelming voter approval. Yet, more than a decade later, not a single major water project has been completed. “Why do we vote for bonds when nothing happens?” Papagni asked, voicing frustration shared by many producers. Instead of new reservoirs or storage, growers watch as water is flushed to the ocean while farmland is proposed for solar conversion. California's Future Food Supply at Risk As the state's population nears 40 million, California continues to lose farmland. Papagni warned that reducing the state's agricultural capacity will have long-term consequences: higher food prices, lower quality, and greater dependence on imports. “If we keep thinking like this,” he said, “California won't be able to feed the world.” Conclusion The latest episode of the AgNet News Hour captured the tension between politics, energy, and agriculture in California. Farmers are calling for water storage projects and farmland preservation, while policymakers push renewable energy development. The question remains: Will California prioritize feeding people, or fueling power grids? For more agricultural updates, visit AgNetWest.com and subscribe to the AgNet West podcast.
