AJ and I sit down to discuss what we've been reading and watching, which leads down the road of representation. But before we can get into all that...we definitely need some coffee. Victrola Coffee is a coffee company whose table I spent a good amount of time at during #CoffeeFestLA. They were great to talk to and even helped me with my coffee, which was rare. I'm still in disbelief in how few people were able to actually offer anything useful at Coffee Fest. I heard this company is a big deal in Seattle, so if you're in the area, I would recommend stopping in. Their coffee was really good and I love their design/style. AJ digs into the books he's been reading. Being the more scholarly of the two of us, he has been mostly into classics. I, on the other hand, listen to audio books. As for movies, I finally watched Black Panther. I was probably the only person left in America who hadn't seen it and it finally hit Netflix. For a super hero movie, it was...ok. The movie did a few things really well though. It represented women and African-Americans (or would it be Africans, since Wakanda is in Africa, but it was an American movie...it represented black people... I can't figure out the "correct" way to say that, and I'm sure someone will be offended regardless of what I say). This discussion leads to our hope for Captain Marvel, and how I hope and pray they won't get stuck in the trap of the Super Girl tv show. The conversation turned towards the concept of privilege, but we were already an hour in and figured we shouldn't open that can of worms until the next podcast. (A hint on what the next podcast will be about). This is a long one (over an hour). I want to thank you for sticking with us through to the end of this show. I didn't expect it to be as big of a topic as it turned out to be and we have these discussions to help open and stretch our minds and our perspectives. So, if you have some thoughts, or would like to shine some light on aspects of the conversation, please comment. You can do so on the web page below, or on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. If you comment, we will respond. We look forward to your thoughts/comments. If you enjoy this show, I would like to ask you to please share on Facebook or Twitter. A fascinating convo with podcast listener and coffee guru Kendon Shaw of Victrola Coffee in Seattle (victolacoffee.com) . We talk about the similarities between the two -- from an agricultural, business, and enjoyment standpoint -- and how coffee is evolving to become more like wine. Thanks to Kendon and Victrola -- a fascinating look inside the coffee business and a beverage that many of us take for granted, but probably shouldn't.   Kendon offers a coupon code: www.victrolacoffee.com Free shipping with this code: normalwine Valid through 4/17/2017
