A Graphophone was a phonograph made by the Columbia Phonograph Company under one of its many corporate identities. There were Graphophones that played both cylinder and 78rpm records. A Grafonola was an internal horn phonograph made by the Columbia Phonograph Company that played 78rpm records. Columbia began selling disc records and phonographs in addition to the cylinder system in 1901, preceded only by their “Toy Graphophone” of 1899, which used small, vertically-cut records. For a decade, Columbia competed with both the Edison Phonograph Company cylinders and the Victor Talking Machine Company disc records as one of the top three names in American recorded sound. The firm also introduced the internal-horn “Grafonola” to compete with the extremely popular “Victrola” sold by the rival Victor Talking Machine Company.

Designed for discerning audio enthusiasts and music aficionados alike, this remarkable record player promises superior performance and effortless setup, making it a highly recommended addition to any audiophile's collection. It retails for $599. Overview Product highlights: semi-automatic belt-driven turntable built-in Bluetooth with high-quality aptX HD and aptX Adaptive streaming to compatible speakers and headphones anti-resonant die-cast aluminum platter straight carbon fiber tonearm Ortofon 2M Red moving magnet cartridge on removable curved headshell included auto-stop feature (user must select "auto-stop" using button on rear of turntable) platter starts spinning when you hover the tonearm over the leading edge of a record platter stops spinning at the end of a side switchable built-in phono preamp adjustable anti-skating and counterweight speeds: 33-1/3 and 45 rpm Connections: gold plated RCA output with ground for making wired connection to an existing hi-fi system detachable power cord Performance specs: wow and flutter: 0.175% signal-to-noise ratio: 45dB Setup The Victrola Hi-Res Carbon is designed to be user-friendly, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free setup process even for those new to turntables. As soon as you open the box, before you even pull the player out, you're greeted with a clear diagram and description of the 7 steps required to get the unit to start playing records. The diagram has clear and concise instructions guiding you through each of the fairly typical steps involved in setting up a turntable. If you've done it before, you know the steps; if you've never done it, the steps are simple. It is the easiest record player we've ever set up. Depending on how you opt to install, you can be listening to vinyl in under 5 minutes. The turntable has two output options, there are RCA connectors in the back that you can run to a traditional amplifier and speakers. But it also has Bluetooth - so you can send your music to your bluetooth speakers totally wirelessly. We set it up so we could test both options. For the RCA wired connection we used a Yamaha A-S701 amplifier powering a set of Ara Derderian signature tower speakers. For Bluetooth we got our hands on a couple different pairs of AptX headphones. We didn't have any AptX wireless speakers to test with, but the headphones gave us a pretty good idea of what to expect. All told, from unboxing to savoring the first notes of your cherished records, the entire experience is streamlined and simple. Performance As simple as it is to install, where the Victrola Hi-Res Carbon truly shines is in its exceptional audio performance. We compared it with Braden's current record player, a Yamaha MusicCast VINYL 500 turntable that retails for $100 more than the Victrola at $699. The audio performance difference between the two was astonishing. We would play a song from an album on one player, then transfer the record to the other player and listen to it again. The first time we went from Yamana to Victrola, we had to double check that nobody bumped the EQ. The base was cleaner and more pronounced, everything in each song we tested just sounded better, clearer, more dynamic coming from the Vicrtola. It's rare for one piece of home audio gear to so wildly change your view of the world. Listening to records is a fun, nostalgic experience. Oftentimes you revel in and enjoy some of the static, the crackling and popping that we remember so fondly from our youth. But with records, we never really stop to ask ourselves if what we're hearing is the best that record can sound. You pull out a record, you play it, and that's it. But the Victrola has changed, at least Braden's approach, to record players - it made every record we played sound better than his Yamaha. Next step was testing Bluetooth performance. You'd be surprised how rare AptX still is in headphones, so we had to procure a few pairs to make sure we were hearing the best the Victrola could offer, and it did not disappoint. While the listening experience is vastly different between a pair of tower speakers and a pair of wireless headphones, The Victrola performed incredibly well. The music sounded clear, clean and very rich. We can imagine that paired with a set of high quality AptX wireless speakers, the Victrola will blow you away. To be fair, the Yamaha has a few more bells and whistles than the Victrola, which may explain the higher price tag. In addition to Bluetooth (tho not AptX), the Yamaha has MusicCast built-in so you can send the audio around your house if you have a MusicCast compatible system. It also allows you to stream music services with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2 or Spotify Connect and has voice control with A-Lady and Google Assistant devices or S-Lady via AirPlay 2. With records, you have to flip them or change them every 4-5 songs. The streaming capabilities of the Yamaha allow you to listen to music without as much maintenance, which can come in handy at times. Not to be outdone, Victrola offers an upgraded version of the Hi-Res Carbon called the Stream Carbon that works with Sonos - it retails for $799. If you're in the Sonos ecosystem, it's worth a look. Aesthetically the Victrola Hi-Res Carbon is gorgeous. Minimal, clean, very sleek. Its stylish and subtle design not only exudes elegance but also ensures stability and durability. Crafted from premium materials, this record player is built to last, promising years of sonic bliss and conversations started. While the Yamaha includes a built in dust cover, the Victrola includes a removable dust cover. The built-in cover is very convenient, but there's no denying how great the Victrola looks with the cover removed while you're spinning a record. With the Yamaha it always sits under the plastic cover, but in the open air the Victrola looks like a statement piece. Conclusion: For those seeking a record player that harmonizes impeccable performance with ease of setup, the Victrola Hi-Res Carbon is an excellent choice. Its user-centric design, exceptional sound quality, and meticulous craftsmanship make it a strong contender for anyone who loves vinyl or for those who think they might enjoy getting into vinyl. It more than delivers on the pristine and vibrant sound quality that you didn't know you were missing. Marry the Hi-Res Carbon with a pair of high res Bluetooth AptX speakers and you have a turntable-in-a-box system that will put any of the all-in-one units on the market to shame - and the setup is just as simple! If you're in the Sonos ecosystem, check out the Stream Carbon. What you lose in Bluetooth you gain in Sonos integration and an app for setup.

In her family, Louise Post says that there have been three usual career paths: Join the clergy, practice medicine or become an artist. Thankfully she followed the latter. In 1992, Louise co-founded Veruca Salt with fellow vocalist/songwriter Nina Gordon, and the quartet became one of Chicago's biggest exports of the alternative-rock era. The duo's buzzsaw guitars pushed hit singles like "Seether," "All Hail Me" and "Volcano Girls" into the stratosphere, and despite some years apart, the full original lineup reunited for the much-heralded 2015 full-length Ghost Notes. This week, currently on tour promoting her new solo album Sleepwalker, Louise talks about harmonizing with her dad growing up, gravitating toward the women in her favorite bands, why she continually has "dreams of songs," and the inspiration for Veruca Salt's ode to vinyl, "Victrola." There didn't used to be a place in Denver called RiNo. So it wasn't a problem when a bunch of artists found some space and made dusty, industrial Brighton Boulevard… cool. But now art is big business in RiNo, and several rising entertainment companies — Vinyl Me, Please; Victrola; AEG Presents: Rocky Mountains — are building Denver's next “music district” right there on Brighton. So where does that leave the artists? And how is the local music business reshaping Denver? Host Bree Davies sits down with The Denver Post's arts reporter and critic John Wenzel to get the scoop. Don't miss Wenzel's deep dive into the companies forming a new music district in RiNo. Bree mentioned the last-gasp effort to pass Governor Jared Polis's big land-use bill at the state legislature this week. Check the show notes for a link to the Dark Tales from the Road podcast. Now, it's time to settle in… grab a blanket, and a warm drink… and let's get started.August 1st, 1924We are in love.Oh gosh, to see the words written down makes my heart flutter!Last spring Papa told Marius he could use the shed behind our house as a workshop. He works there nearly every day, joining Mama, Paloma, and I for lunch most days. I bring him tea and biscuits in the afternoon, we sit on bales of hay in the barn to drink our tea and talk about everything and nothing. For my birthday he gifted me the most amazing treasure. He kept it a secret for months, never telling me what he was working on in that shed. My heart almost stopped when I saw it. A Skylark carved out of wood, its head twisted toward its back, a blackberry held firmly in its beak, with a vine curving all around it then down between its clawed feet. At the end of the vine hangs a small silver bell. He must have spent countless hours working on it, all for me. It's hanging in my window right now; I can hear its sweet sound floating on the breeze. Marius says the bell came with him from Europe, and that it's very old. There are larks swirling all around it in an infinite spiral, and words written in a foreign language. Mama told me she thought the words looked familiar, but she couldn't remember where she'd seen them before. Finally, after several weeks she came running into my room one day, unnaturally agitated, holding The Skye Lark Belle book in her hand. She whipped it open to the spot where she'd left her bookmark and pointed to the page. “Here it is!” she said, “It's Scottish Gaelic, the words engraved on the bell, they're the same as the words in my book!”I remember staring at her, stunned at the unbelievable coincidence. I asked Mama what the words meant, and she read from the book, “The Skylark Bell rings only for The Skye Lark Belle”. We looked at one another and shrugged then, neither one of us understanding what that was supposed to mean. Mama had owned that book for years; it was her mother who had brought it back from a trip overseas. She'd found it in a tiny bookshop and liked the etching of the siren on the front. For years Mama had read us only the first part of the book. The happy part. It was only recently that she let me read the final few chapters. Chapters that made me feel devastated and angry. I had grown up with The Skye Lark Belle; admired her, emulated her, grown unnaturally attached to her. It broke my heart to learn how her story ends. My story will not end that way. Papa and Mama have organized a big celebration tonight. It's going to be the talk of the town, they've invited absolutely everyone, even Cousin Bruno and Auntie Freda! Mama has been cooking nearly non-stop the past three days, and Paloma convinced Papa to let her go to the city to get her hair cut into one of those modern bobs for the occasion. I am going to wear my prettiest dress, the blue one that Mama got me for my birthday last month. I've been saving it for a special occasion, and I think that will be tonight. I have a feeling this will be a night to remember for all time…~~~~~~Farfalla stands in the corner of the room, twirling a strand of her hair around her finger. The house at Meadow Lane is filled to the brim with guests. Music floats through the main floor from the Victrola in the sitting room and people weave in and out of the dining area with plates and drinks. Farfalla hears loud laughter to her left and turns to see Paloma and Willy Bunting by the fireplace going through an old photo album. At long last, she sees Marius walk in the front door and her heart starts pounding. Mr. Shearwater pulls him into the house, and she sees Auntie Freda thrust a plate of stew and glass of beer at him. She giggles to herself as he tries to navigate the crowded room with his hands full. Finally, he reaches the dining table and unloads the food and drink. He looks up and realizes she is watching him. She smiles as his cheeks turn pink, and he gestures for her to meet him in the kitchen. She follows him, but moments later Cousin Bruno bursts in and insists they let him take their photograph. From across the room James Carnifex watches, his eyes narrowed. If Farfalla had looked his way she would have seen his jaw set in anger and his knuckles turn white as his grip on the empty glass in his hand tightened, but she is too distracted by Marius' presence to notice. James finally puts down his empty glass and walks toward the front door. He grabs his coat off the rack, and heads home heavy-hearted.Once the photo is taken, Farfalla and Marius sneak out the back door of the house and skip to the apple orchard, lanterns in hand to light the way in the darkness. They stop, breathless, under the branches of the tree Farfalla was sitting in when they first met. Marius takes Farfalla's hands in his and begins, “There's something I have to tell you…” Farfalla's heart starts beating a little faster, could it be…?Marius gets a faraway look in his eye and pauses, like he is focused on something in the distance. Farfalla leans over so her face is directly in his line of sight. “You what…?” she asks.Marius looks at her then like she is the only thing in the world that truly matters. He slips his hand into his pocket and takes out a small silver ring shaped like a feather. Farfalla gasps at the sight of it, both because of its beauty, and because of what it must surely mean. Marius proceeds to ask her to be his wife, and she says yes without a second thought. She feels her heart soar as Marius picks her up and spins her around. They agree to keep their engagement a secret until Marius can ask Mr. Shearwater for her hand, as is customary. Farfalla slips the ring on the silver chain with the tree charm that Paloma gave her for her sixteenth birthday. She can almost feel warmth radiating from it and spreading through her entire body. Nearby, Cormorant lets out a loud whinny. “Are you feeling left out old boy?!” Asks Marius, cheerfully. Farfalla suggests they go for a celebratory ride. He lifts her up into the saddle and hops on behind her. She feels like they are flying as Cormorant goes galloping through the fields by the light of the silvery moon. At long last, her prince has arrived. At the bottom of Meadow Lane, a figure stands watching, blurry through the veils of time that separate them. Another figure appears behind it and pulls it away from the lane, then they both fade away. A breeze picks up, sending the old creaky branches of the Oak Tree swaying back and forth as the ringing of the Skylark Bell echoes in the night.Thank you so much for listening. Join me next week for Chapter 7 – Marius' Disappearance, in which we relieve the terrible winter of 1925, this time from Farfalla's point of view. The Skylark Bell is brought to you by Phaeton Starling Publishing and features original music by Cannelle. I'm your host, Melissa Oliveri.Today we celebrate the one-year anniversary of Songs from The Skylark Bell – the official soundtrack to The Skylark Bell podcast, released under my stage name, Cannelle. This episode will feature track-by-track commentary on the album, including notes on the inspiration and method behind the songs. There will be an extended version of the episodes available exclusively to Patreon subscribers that will include unreleased material and additional insight. So, grab a blanket and a warm drink, and may I suggest some headphones... and let's get started.----------------------------------------------Let's begin with the intro music to The Skylark Bell, a short instrumental piece called Nightbridge. This song plays at the beginning of each episode of The Skylark Bell. After taking only 10 minutes to compose a song for my friend Amy's podcast, a song you can hear in the extended version of this episode if you are a Patreon Subscriber, I thought composing music for my own upcoming podcast would be a breeze. Boy was I wrong. Nothing I was coming up with felt right, and after several days of trial and error I was getting frustrated. I took a break from being hyper-focused on trying to compose a new song and sat at the piano to play some of my original songs and a few covers, when suddenly it hit me. One of my songs, Night, had a very intricate, interesting, mildly spooky bridge which just might work as a stand-alone piece of music. Sure enough, it was absolutely perfect for The Skylark Bell, and Nightbridge was born. If you listen carefully to the beginning, you can hear the wind blow, then a door open, then footsteps as if someone is coming in from outside. Hold that thought until we get to the end of the album... PLAY NIGHTBRIDGE – INTRONext up is Jack's Room. This song can be heard in Season 1 Fantome Friday #1, also titled Jack's Room. I composed this song over 20 years ago when I was living in Montreal – it was originally composed on guitar. If you are a Patreon Subscriber you can hear a portion of the original version now. The original version was written after a conversation with my dad about an unexplained encounter I had with a long departed relative about 10 years prior. Fast forward 30 years and I converted the song to the piano and recorded it for a podcast episode telling the story. I get a little emotional with this one because it has so much history. I actually cried after recording the strings in the bridge PLAY JACK'S ROOM.Okay, now we get into the first of what I call the “One-ders”, o-n-e-d-e-r-s. I call them that because they are short little pieces of music, typically about a minute or two, that I love dearly. This one is called The Early Bird, and can be heard in Season 1 Chapter 3, also called The Early Bird. I wanted some music to be playing in the diner when Magpie and Lucas walk in, and since the diner has a “great retro feel” it only seemed appropriate for the music to also have a vintage vibe. Of course, to keep in line with the general feeling of the story, I wanted to music to be somewhat dark and mysterious. What I ended up with was some noir, 1930's private eye movie type music, and I wouldn't have it any other way. PLAY THE EARLY BIRD.Next up is one of my favourite songs on the album – The Velvets. This song first played in Season 1 Fantome Friday #4, The Bootleggers, which tells the story of my encounter with a long-departed mobster at my friend Amy's old house in Minneapolis. Hot off the heels of The Early Bird, I was definitely in a retro, jazzy mode. I started with a baseline PLAY VELVETS BASELINE, then added some trumpet PLAY VELVETS with TRUMPET, the added some rather haphazard piano, PLAY VELVETS with PIANO, and topped it off with some sultry vocals... You can hear an instrumental version of this song in the podcast Volsteadland, which covers the real-life antics of Kid Cann. PLAY THE VELVETSNow we go to our next one-der, Visions. This piece of music is recurring throughout all seasons of The Skylark Bell and generally indicates Magpie is having or is about to have a psychic vision. It first appears in Season 1 Chapter 4 – An Unexpected Guest. This song was composed in a rather unusual, but often times very effective, way. I essentially plugged my keyboard into my laptop and hit record, then spontaneously built the song track by track through improvisation, muting things that didn't work and adding filler where necessary. The entire song was composed and recorded in one evening. My favourite part is how it fades a spooky low growl at the end. PLAY VISIONS.Up next is my favourite track on the album, and one of my favourite compositions to date – The Blue Dress. Before I started composing any songs for the podcast, I had come up with an instrumental tune inspired by the song Lady by Regina Spektor, which had me exploring more jazz type chords. My tune had a soft, cigar lounge kind of vibe, and went in a few different directions before circling back to the soft jazzy part again. When I wrote the story of The Woman I the Window for Season 1 Fantome Friday #2, I immediately knew which song in the making was right for the episode. I jotted down some lyrics and made small adjustments to the song and voila, The Blue Dress was complete. One of my favourite parts of the song is the background vocals – which I made up spur of the moment as I was recording. At first I was inclined to sing Lalalalalala... but generally I prefer to use actual words in my songs, and that's when I converted those simple Lalalas to “colilililiding cololololours”, which had a similar effect but much more meaning, as the two women are both wearing blue dresses, and both have blue eyes, their colours colliding through time PLAY COLLIDING COLOURS PART OF THE BLUE DRESS - Another part of the song I really like is the bridge, which gets quite orchestral – I love when the strings fade in PLAY THE BRIDGE TO THE BLUE DRESS. Lastly, I chose to use this electric piano sound because I'd hear Tori Amos use it effectively in so many of her songs, something I hadn't been able to do until now, but in this case, it seemed to fit perfectly with the vibe. PLAY THE BLUE DRESSNow we come to yet another little one-der, La Fête, French for The Party. This short piece of music first appears in Season 1 Chapter 6, An Accidental Discovery, in which Magpie has a vision that the abandoned house at Meadow Lane is all lit up and filled with light, people, and music. For this piece of music, I researched upbeat 1920s songs. I wanted it to sound like the music was coming from a Victrola, so I downloaded a sound effect and included it at the beginning of the song PLAY LA FETE. Up next is Song for a Loved One. This song was inspired by the sudden passing of a dear family member. Though the inspiration behind the song was a very specific person, the general feeling of it could apply to anyone experiencing loss and grief. Song for a Loved One first aired on the podcast in Season 1, Fantôme Friday #9 – Grandma's Goodbye. PLAY SONG FOR A LOVED ONE.We're just about at the halfway mark, and here is Foreign Emotion, which can be heard in Season 1, Fantome Friday #3 – The Open House. For this song I wanted something upbeat that would circle around the room like the ghost in the story. I took inspiration from the song Raspberry Swirl by Tori Amos. My favourite part of the song is the bridge, which mellows out and has a sound reminiscent of The Blue Dress. PLAY FOREIGN EMOTION.The next song on the track list is Les Soeurs, which translates literally to The Sisters, which in this context refers to nuns. The song was recorded for Season 1, Fantome Friday #10 – The Convent. This instrumental song at its origin was composed as intro music to another original song of mine called The You That You Were, completely unrelated to The Skylark Bell. As I was writing and recording the story of The Convent and what I experienced there, this song kept playing in my mind, and I felt like it was perfect for the mood, it's delicate, feminine, and foreboding... PLAY LES SOEURS.Up next is the most rapidly written song on the album – The Wedding Dress, which was paired with the most rapidly written story of the podcast, also called The Wedding Dress, which was Fantome Friday #12 in Season 1. Both the story and song were spontaneously written and recorded in less than 48 hours and were inspired by my wedding anniversary, which happened to be that same week. Patreon Subscribers can download a remixed and remastered version of the track that was reworked by Pink Flamingo Music Studios. PLAY THE WEDDING DRESS.Now we've come to The Lady in the Room, the feature song for Season 1, Fantome Friday #6 – The House on Edgar Street. If you've listened to the episode, you'll know about the 2 female ghosts I encountered in my childhood home on Edgar Street, one lovely and kind, the other not so much. As a side note, I firmly believe that instruments have music inside of them. Every time I've gotten a new, or new-to-me, instrument, it has provided me with new compositions. It was no different when I first bought a second-hand piano a few years ago. I sat down and spontaneously wrote a very simple, very short piece of music that I instinctively named The Lady in the Room. In my mind, the lady in question was this new piano that was taking up a tremendous amount of space in my house, but later on when pondering the two ghosts in my childhood home, I felt the song title, and the song itself, fit perfectly. PLAY THE LADY IN THE ROOM.Ah, it's time for another of my favourite songs on the album – A Strange New Year, which crowned the final episode of Season 1 of The Skylark Bell. The song was inspired by Magpie and Lucas, and the short bonus episode I wrote for them where they are celebrating the new year in a Scottish Pub, but despite the joyful atmosphere, something feels... off. The song was also inspired, in part, by the strange circumstances we found ourselves in during the pandemic holiday seasons of 2020 and 2021. As I worked through the lyrics of the song, I came to realise that even though the past two years had been highly unusual, each previous year had its own unique set of circumstances. Truly, behind me was a string of strange old years. The song came together and was recorded just in time to be included on the soundtrack. Listening to the recording is a very visual experience for me, I can practically see an entire video: From Magpie and Lucas' faces lit up by a sparkler at the beginning, to the tartan-clad crowd dancing in circles during the orchestral larger-than-life bridge. PLAY A STRANGE NEW YEAR.The last song on the official version of the record released to streaming platforms is a take on The Skylark Bell theme song, Nightbridge, that is used for the outro of each regular episode. This version of the song is more stripped down, and features haunting vocals that aren't in the intro version. Also, fun tidbit – remember at the beginning of this album overview I told you to remember the sound effects at the beginning of the song? At the start of each episode you hear wind, a door, then footsteps, as if someone is coming in from outside to sit and read the story. Then, at the end of each episode, you hear the reverse; footsteps, a door, and wind... as if the person who was reading the story is getting up and leaving. PLAY NIGHTBRIDGE OUTRO.Now, if you were lucky enough to be a Patreon subscriber last year, you received a physical CD of Songs from The Skylark Bell in addition to the digital download. This CD featured 2 bonus songs not available on the official release that can be found on streaming platforms. Here's some top secret info, you can also get a digital version of the album with the 2 bonus songs by purchasing it through Bandcamp. The first of those 2 songs is Kaleidoscope, which plays in Season 1 Fantome Friday #8, The Harlequin. This song was inspired by the loss of a dear friend nearly 25 years ago, this loss is explored in the story featured in that episode. I was inspired to add subtle Harpsichord to the song by my friend Sam on Instagram, who had composed a song on harpsichord right around the time I was recording. It's quite subtle, see if you can spot it. PLAY KALEIDOSCOPE.The second bonus song is an acoustic version of Nightbridge, which was recorded during one of my Instagram Live music shows. This acoustic version aired on the podcast in Season 1 Fantome Friday #7, The Bridge. How did a Marty Robbins song teach Savage about becoming an American? When did he start listening to jazz and Afro-Cuban? How did Savage's son turn him on to heavy metal? What impact did the music of the islands leave with him? Hear Savage on musical greats including Gene Autry, Herbie Hancock, Cannonball Adderley, Johnny Pacheco, Thelonius Monk, Fats Domino, Bobby Darin, Sinatra, Frankie Lyman, Rammstein, Jimi Hendrix, Metallica, IZ, and more. When did Savage first see television? What film first struck a chord with him as a child? How did classic performances from Marlon Brando and James Dean influence him as a teenager? Did a Savage story make it on The Sopranos? Does Savage have aspirations for filmmaking? What was it like at The Apollo in the 1950s? Today on the show we talk about William Dampier, a pirate turned ship captain turned pirate again. Dampier headed the first official Royal Navy mission to collect flora and fauna from distant lands. Along the way he gifted the English language hundreds of new words, recipes, and understanding of winds, currents, and sailing. But he also committed lots and lots of crime along the way. How do we tangle with complicated legacies such as this? Is there a way to become pirates in our own minds, with our own incomplete maps? Note: my audio got lost for the last few minutes of the episode, but it doesn't affect the listening experience. I'm not leaving Kris hanging though! Visit Kris's Youtube page here. I'm Lesley Logan, Pilates instructor and fitness business coach. I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self doubt. My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear. Each week, my guests will bring Bold, Executable, Intrinsic and Targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and Be It Till You See It. It's a practice, not a perfect. Let's get started.Hey loves, how's it going? It's just me today. It's just me today. So hopefully that's exciting for you. We did solo episodes a little bit earlier in the summer, and we got some great feedback from you guys. So we'll be tossing these in. And every once well, especially when it applies to what kind of timely right now, and that is that this is the, that those last few months of the year and they can feel very, they can feel a little worrying, right? Like it starts to get really busy. I know for me, it's very busy. So at the time I'm recording this, we are getting ready for Agency Mini, by the time you share this, we probably have already finished it. But I'm also before that going to Nashville, coming back doing Mini and going to Chicago, coming back doing something else then going to Cambodia. Oh, I forgot there's new people at my house in between all of that for our business retreat. And then and then it's Thanksgiving, and all of a sudden it's Thanksgiving. And so this is a time of the year that can feel really overwhelming. There's a couple things I want to actually remind you of. You get to do this, like you get to do this. And I really, if you are struggling, if you're feeling overwhelmed, I really want you to reframe a little bit and just go, "I get to do this." Now if you don't want to do what you're doing, that is something to write down. So something I think is really cool about how we feel about things is that they are there, there are signs that you don't want to be doing the thing, or you don't be doing the thing with that person or that time. And you the more you pay attention to these things, the more you make notes, the more you can make conscious decisions. So for example, I actually love to travel, I love to go to Cambodia, there are so many things I love to do about it. So I am this busy season, not at no point am I going, oh my God, I have to do all this stuff, I get to do all this stuff. And I actually plan for all these things to happen when they're happening because this is kind of the time of the year that I really like to do all that. I like to pack it in, I like to make sure that we see all the faces of the people that we love. I really do like to do all of those things. Now, in the summertime, when I like want to be in chill vibes, I am not planning those things. I'm not doing them. In fact, when we did do them this summer, just like as a trial, my body was like, "Why are you doing this? It's summertime, it's summer vibes." So what is cool about journaling, or even just documenting or taking note somewhere about how you feel in your body, about different things as they can give you signs, about what to say yes to and no to in the future. And so there have been people who have been requesting a retreat for us to do in the summertime and we're not doing that. Now, there are a couple reasons I can say I don't do that. And they're very valid, that the weather in Cambodia is not exactly, exactly ideal for doing a retreat. Not only is it hot, but there's monsoons and we can't control them. And it's crazy rain, and I don't want people to fly all the way out there. And then we can't see the temples because the rain is insane. Right. So those are some reasons. And the other big reasons I don't want to. I don't want to I want to use my summers to reflect on the meaning of the year to plan for the fall of the year, to make sure we're all set up to rest, relax, to visit with friends as they come into town. So and those are all things I learned over the last couple of years of testing things. So it's okay that you didn't know about the things that you said yes to that you didn't maybe like the time that they were, the location that they were until you did them. That's okay. You don't have to be a psychic. Most of us are not. And in fact, some people who are aren't. So, so I think it's just really important to be kind to yourself, and acknowledge when things feel really good. Okay, what about that feels really good? What is it that people that you're with? Is the time that it was? Is it how it was planned out? What about that feels really good so that you can a) use those as green lights and green signals to say yes to in the future? What about it, didn't you like so you can use those red flags? And so every time I get asked to speak every time we plan a thing we could to look back at, like what didn't work before, what we liked about it, what people liked about it and then make decisions going on, which is why perfect is boring, which is why that waiting until something's perfect is the wrong thing to do. I wouldn't know 90% of this information until I had gone in there, done a retreat in August, done different things at different times of the year. That said yes to programs that were unorganized, disorganized, you know, that kind of thing. So I wouldn't know that, I wouldn't know what is actually important to me about organization and what isn't had I not experienced it and then felt it in my body. And so all of this is to say if you had a summer or for my southern hemisphere people had a winter where there was things that you loved and things that you didn't love, pay attention to what those things are and then use those things for moving forward. Okay.So that is kind of kind of how I kind of kind of it is exactly how I try to say yes or no to things and plan things on our calendar. And it's just really important to me. The other way is just really listening to you guys. So those of you who fill out the surveys at beitpod.com/tellme. Thank you, those are really great, when you interact with us in any of our other programs, Agency, OPC, we do a lot of surveys, we love surveys. They really help us figure out how we can be better at things, what things actually matter to you, you can be really easy ladies too. And I say ladies, I know there's a few good men listening, hello. But there's it can be really easy to think we need to add more, do more, give more. And truthfully, sometimes that can be overwhelming. Or they can be really overwhelming for some people. We'd ask them their server like, "Would you like more episodes?" And some people said, "Yes." And other people said, "It's enough." And I'm like, "Great. I'm not going to do dailies, if you don't want that." Now, if you all want that, then let me know. But we truly don't I don't want to overwhelm you without your request. And also your acknowledgement that that's what you want, right? So this is really great. Whether you're in business or not. And maybe you're like Lesely I'm not in business. You can survey with the people around you. You can you can ask questions, you can get feedback from people about yourself, you can even say, "Hey, you know, I'm actually trying to figure out what I want to do for the end of the year. Can you think of a time this summer where you notice that I was a little bit more frantic, frenetic, exhausted? And can you remember time this summer that I was excited, jubilated and joyful feeling at ease?" People around you spend time with you will know, they'll know. They'll remember. And that can be really helpful. Okay, so I say all this because in the last solo episode, I told you, I was being it till I see it. And right now, and I really have been working on that. And I noticed that there's an old story, I'll have to tell myself, which is that I'm too busy. Maybe you know that one, maybe you know that story. And sometimes I, in order to feel like I am in control of things that are uncontrollable, I will do more. So then they're not easy. And, and I'm getting stressed out and, and so that doesn't work. So I've been really working on some mantras and daily meditations, I've actually changed my morning routine a ton, and I'm still tweaking it as we speak. And for someone who loves routine that can be overwhelming, and also can be really exciting. It's really all how you reframe it. So one of the things that I am trying to do is a) work on my sleep. I've actually always had struggle with sleep situations, and stress. So I am someone who just because the childhood that I had I and it wasn't bad. Honestly, it wasn't bad. It just that I, as an oldest child of little kids and we're all born around the same time. I definitely took on a lot of stress around me and tried to fix a lot of things and do over the doer. I'm a doer. And I pride of myself on that actually I'm an, it's one of my strengths, I'm really good at. But a strength can be a weakness if you don't know when to use it and when not to use it. Right. So in these last couple of months, I've been really looking at my morning routine and seeing where parts of it can be switched into the afternoon because I do work from home. And what I could add to my morning that would allow me to set myself up to be in the most abundant receiving ease, ease full mode, strength base mode, just totally in tune like I really want the mornings to feel less like, Oh my God, I have all these things to do." And more like, "Okay, I get to do these things," kind of like how I started this episode. And that's something I share with you because something that I have always struggled with like I'm a very positive person like bright side up kind of person, but equally can get a little down about things especially when things are out of my control. So then I start to do more and then when does it happen is I'm not in receiving mode, I'm not actually noticing opportunities around me and I'm too busy to be the person I want to be for those I love. So that is not prioritization of self, that is not putting myself first, that is not taking messy action, that is trying to be perfect in some other way. And so the last couple of months I've really been doing that and I started off with adding in my red light therapy to that routine. I also stopped doing my morning Instagram talks, you guys it's not because I don't love doing them. I just was like I really want to take in the surroundings more, I really want to be at ease more. I don't actually want to have to work right now. Right. So that doesn't mean I won't do them anymore. It just means I need to do them later in my morning and I'm working on putting them back in. So as I be it till I see it, what I am doing is catching myself when I say I'm too busy and doing what I would think a non busy person who is confident and positive and abundant and supportive of their business and their team and their dreams would do? So that's the whole premise of the Be It Till You See It Podcast acting as if before you're ready, right? So if I look at, if I think what a woman who runs a massive company, who takes care of herself, what does she do? How is her morning routine? What is that setup? So I did a lot of research on things you can do to make your body sleep better. As I mentioned, I'm working on my sleep. So your sleep for the night starts in the morning before and we can thank Huberman for his podcasts on that. But and there's a bunch of other studies on that. But really, truly, like, I do already wake up pretty early. So I do get the morning light of the day. And so I was like, "Okay, well, that's helping my sleep out. So what else can help my sleep out?" So I've been working on doing those things. So I've been changing my morning routine up to rabbit symbol, what I imagine a woman who runs a company, who prioritize prioritize their self first but do the morning. And that required some changes in my morning because I was really pushing a lot of things into my morning routine, and feeling the sense of urgency that they had to get done, and they weren't of ease. And of course, that's what we're trying to be until we see is that easefulness on this and running this business. And so I have in the last few weeks shifted that morning routine to my workout. Some of them happen a little later. Sometimes they happen in the same time. So every day is actually now different, which is weird for me. But I'm finding a lot of fun in that and flow in that and a little bit of like rebelliousness that I don't always let myself have in that. So that's super cool. I will when we get to my favorite things list off a lot of the things that I'm doing in the morning that you can borrow, we've got affiliate links or links below that you can enjoy. So as I be it till I see it in that what it is challenging me on is watching my responses to things because no longer do the old responses, the quick responses apply, I actually need to take a step back. And so when I say, "Oh, I don't have time." I actually go right now. When does that need to be done and then I look and see when I can get it done. And it's kind of amazing. I used to also think I didn't have time to meditate every day. Wrong. I have since figured out that I can. So watching the stories I tell myself that are keeping me from being it till I see it is something that I am in constant practice with. And I wonder if I always will be. I don't know, jury's out, I'll keep you posted. So hopefully that is helpful for you just like seeing like, not perfect. We're still working on it. Every day is kind of a challenge based on like the old way of thinking and the stories I told myself that made me feel safe and made me feel secure, that made me you know, not go off and do some crazy things. And now those things are actually holding me back and the growth of what I'm trying to do. And like I am on a mission, more bodies doing Pilates, and I cannot do that if I don't think I have time. Because I need to be able to create time so I can tell you how to create time. Right. So okay, now, some of you always ask us, like, what are some books I'm reading right now. And I am going to let you know, since I talked to Coach Lee, I have been doing my E-Squared book, I'm not doing it as quickly as I did the first time, I'm kind of stopping at different chapters and waiting until I want to do the experiment before I go on to the next chapter. So I it's actually going really cool and it's actually a really good reminder. There are some things that she wrote in there that I want to just like paint on my walls. So E-Squared by Pam Grout, she's still on the list to get on the pod. So if you know her hook a sister up. Okay, um, then I was I had some girls out, you may remember Brad and I the time I had some girls come to visit that I kind of met through friends of friends. And we all like, "Let's do a friend's weekend." And I highly recommend you do that. I know that can sound really scary. And really, it can be even expensive sounding. The truth is you can you can make it whatever it needs to be. But shared experience is really do make a difference in how you feel and who you surround yourself with makes a difference. We have had multiple multiple guests come on, and we have another guest coming up who is going to tell you that it really does make a difference who you invite into your energy, who you invite into your circle and how much time you spend around them. And so it might require some boundaries. So on that girls weekend, they ment... mentioned, Florin Sho... Scholar Shine. Hold on, let's just pull up her book because I just finished it. It's actually really old. Okay, so I listened to it on Audible and I'm going to be super, oh Florence Scovel Shinn, there it is. So, my autocorrect, I got that weird. So I got the complete works on Audible. I don't even think it charged me a credit. And somebody reads it. The words that she uses, like Victrola. And I just imagine people walking around like the old old New York of like, the 1890s As I'm reading it, but the stuff still makes sense. And it does mention God a lot. So you can insert your own word for that there. And she does and occasional spots but I listened to it on a dog walk because I was like, I just need to be around as much positivity as I can. And the first book I will say is the best one of all of them. A great reminder of being very like actually knowing what you need more of, and, and asking for that. And then being aware of that we've talked about that with Dr. Philippe Douyon, where it's like your eyes and ears are seeing what your brain is looking for. So if you're very co... conscious of what it is that you're looking for, you will then look for evidence for that. And there was some really cool stories in that first book. So I really recommend it. The rest of them it was it was good. I think the first one is a good good place to stop. I have Burnout by Emily and Amelia Nagos... Nagoski, on my Audible that I'm going to next. It's actually part of the book club that we have for Agency. And I'm really excited about I heard them on Brené Brown, and I've had it on my list for a long time. It is a long book. So it's just been working my way to it. And then I just bought the source that we talked about in Stef Caldwell's episode, there's actually a couple books called The Source. So if you actually look back at Stef's episode, we'll put the link in the show notes. There's a specific the source that we want. But again, it just goes into this. There's science around manifestation. And when you can't just do all the things like we... it is we're telling ourselves a lie if we think that we can control all the parts are going to make anything happen. There are a lot of things, there's always a lot of things going on. In fact, like there's stuff in your personal life that's going on, great and not so great. There's stuff in your professional life that's going on, great and not so great. There's stuff in your health that's going on, great and not so great. Right? It is like a disservice and illusion if you think you can actually control all of those things you can't. So you can do what you can do. And then the next thing you have to do is like think like Hazel Ortega have some miracle goals around it be really specific, and then start looking for evidence for it to be true. So I'm like big on those books, I really think that they're gonna help me as I close up this year. As I plan for what we're gonna do in 2023, it has been an interesting 2022 and just doing a lot of things, testing things, changing things. And so I am trying to spend a lot of time on what do I really want? What are we doing all this for? How do we want to be when we're doing that? That's what I'm working on. So as with those books are going to you'll see there's a theme there. As always, you know, you can ask us any questions, you can DM the pod on Instagram and ask us any questions that you have around business, health, personal goals, and Brad and I will answer them on the recaps. And we want your question. So please do DM us. Okay, now, two of my favorite things. Okay, so I Brad calls me a total consumer. It's true. I am, I I really am and I have a lot of fun trying out new things. I do, I don't do a ton of research but I will oftentimes, like want something, look it up. I say yes to all the cookies, because I'm like, yes, track me down, ratio this to my face, let me know when you're having some Labor Day sale. You know, I'm like a, I'm a big fan of cookies. And you guys, you can all use cookies and ads to like, help you see the things you want to see. So you can hate them. But like that's how small businesses make money. And also big businesses too. But the other thing is, is like you can actually say yeah, actually, I would love it if you show me more of this, you just click on the ad and then that they'll, make sure you see that more often. So anyways, um, couple of these things gonna talk to you about are things that have been on my list for a while. So first thing, we talked about my red light therapy before, I really love the one that I have. I have it on, I actually bought like a tray for it that's on wheels, it's like a little stand on wheels, so that I can wheel it in front of my meditation chair, and then I can wheel it back into the closet. So I'm super excited about that. First I had to just like out on a thing, and I had to move it, move it back. And you know what, let's just be really honest, people, it's hard, we're not going to do it right. So I had to, I had to go buy a tray on wheels to make it a little easier. But it is one of the best purchases I've made to go along with that. And there is a ton of studies on red light therapy for people, especially in the morning. And so I'm a big fan of that. And I will say that I have sat in front of it even in the evening when I haven't been feeling as my positive self. And I feel better when I'm done being there. So it's great. I'll read a book on that. What like I'll read a book on my meditation chair in front of the lamp, I'll do breathwork in front of the lamp. I read some emails the other day in front of the lamp like I that's where going back to my morning routine changing on different days, the red light is either part of my meditation, or it's just part of my morning work day so that I can still get it in which is actually super, super cool. Then to go along with this, my chiropractor now light he had both this red light and something called a PEMF mat and I put the link it's my actual affiliate link below. So it should get you directly to the mat and also some fun little goodies that go along with it. And I am I've been wanting this mat for about six months. Every time we go I lay on I have like an hour, I really, it's hard to explain how amazing it makes me feel. But it really does make me feel great. And so I've been saving it, letting it, show up in my ads all the time. And we finally got one and I have used it everyday since. And I'm, this is where I go back to that story. I told myself, I'm too busy. Well, guess what, folks, I wasn't too busy to find an hour each day to lay on it. Since I've got it. So um, so it's kind of crazy. I think when you say you're too busy, you either don't want to do the thing, or you're avoiding doing the thing. And if you're already doing the thing, you're either avoiding it because there's something that scares you about it or you just don't want to do it. So so let that be testament because I bet you the things you really want to do you make time for. Right. So anyways, that link is below I'm obsessed with it. Last time I did a solo episode I told about my favorite water bottle. I'm still obsessed with it. In fact, I have since had a couple of different facials, I have had seen a doctor and my holistic doctor and like, at no point has anyone said I'm dehydrated. I looked hydrated, everything is normal. Everything is great. And I'm super just stoked about this water bottle like it's one of the my favorite things in life. So that link we actually have the affiliate link now and it's below and a bunch of my friends have already bought theirs. We we now I literally almost bought myself another one. And I decided I have to hold back until it's like actually the color I want. So we're patient, we're patiently waiting. Also, I finally got myself a Contrology Wunda Chair. So as you know, if you're in the Pilates world, listening to this. I'm a big fan of that Contrology equipment for my studies with Jay Grimes, like I just really love the way the old equipment was built. And even classical equipment today is not built the same way it was before. And so Contrology has done a wonderful job, really doing a lot of research going back and seeing those old piece of equipment using the old springs to make these new springs and it's incredible. It's very different. We actually got it because we're making the flashcard deck for the chairs now. So if you need an affiliate link to anything by Balanced Body, you can always hit us up, you can those exist on all of our YouTube tutorials. But also, the Contrology equipment is built by Balanced Body and I have an affiliate link for that. But get the Contrology chair is new, it came at the same time as a Ladder Barrel. And I'm sure I'll end up with that. But I really wanted the chair now because we're doing the decks now. And I got it in a really cool blue. I know you've seen my chair, it's hot pink, that color doesn't exist anymore. So I got a hot blue to go with it. I'm just really excited. It's like Barbie pink and Barbie blue like chairs. And I'm just, I think I'm gonna take pictures with them like going to on a date together.Okay, last couple of my favorite things. Naboso hand weights. So I met this woman at Momentum Fest. And I really liked the way that her hand weights felt in my hands like the texture she put in, there's a bunch of science behind it. And as you know, when you do Pilates, you only want one to two pound hand weights. Unless you're my bigger guys. And of course, I'll let you up to five, but nothing more than that, because it gets really distal, and I don't want you to be in your shoulders prefer three actually for you. But anyways, these hand weights are great. They're super fun, you can use them for anything, not just Pilates, and she's got a bunch of other good stuff for waking up your feet, and things like that. So check that out. And then finally, for my business folks who are thinking that they're just too busy, and like, "Where does she find the time?" Here I'm gonna tell you a little secret. In our household, and in our business, we Loom everything. Oh, actually, I'm gonna just be really honest, I don't log into the Loom account as much as everyone else says I'll use Zoom. But Loom Loom is the best. And so you can actually use my affiliate link below. And what it allows you to do is anything that you're already repeating in your life that you do, that you know, you want to someday hand off so life or work, you can Loom. So for example, let's say I don't want to schedule my newsletters anymore. So the next time I go to schedule one, I'm actually going to log into Loom so use my link below to get your account, you'll log in. And then you'll literally just talk to yourself, scheduling your next newsletter. And it will record your screen, record your clicks, record your voice, and you just label it, put in your Dropbox folder. And then when you do hire someone and go, "Here's how you do that. Go take a look at it. Let me know if you have any questions." And hopefully they're able to do it seems to train them. It's all done. So those are my favorite things. Some of them are well most of them are personal health related, then there is some Pilates related and then the business one related. I hope that these are helpful for you. Let me know if you liked this episode, if this if it's if it's good for you to hear like my thought process. I'm a total verbal processor as you can tell, and then what I'm reading and how that helps me be it till I see it and then what I'm using so I can support myself. Y'all, it takes a village okay, it really really does. I do understand that some of the things I'm talking about do come at a cost. And I understand that. So if right now, money is not something you have access to to support who you want to be in this world, can you please take a note out of Rachel Rodgers book, We Should All Be Millionaires. We've talked about this on the podcast before and use the word 'and' instead of 'but I don't have any money', and I don't have any money. And then I really do want you to then listen to that Flo... Florence Scovel Shinn book which I'm pretty sure it's free on on Audible, and hear how like, you can actually just be very specific on what you want. And then your eyes and ears are gonna see an opportunity. Maybe one of these things I've listed, but I say I love ends up at your neighbor's, like, garage sale, maybe ends up on a Facebook sale. Maybe someone's just like, "Hey, I'm moving. I can't take this with me." Right. Like you'd be surprised. What can come to you when you're in receiving mode and when you're aware of what you want. And I hope that these podcasts really help bring that to light and give you something to think about in your life is you can have everything you want. You can. You just have to a) know you want it and then also believe you deserve it, which you do. You don't have to have an excuse for that. You don't have to reason for that. You don't have to explain it to ... to anybody including me. I love you all so much. It is so fun to record these podcasts for you. The solo ones are unique and new for me, so I really do hope that they're helpful. And please if you have feedback, if you have questions, if there is ... guest you want to hear or if you want more solo episodes, then go to beitpod.com/tellme and then we can get you and give us that information and then we can continue to fine tune everything to help all of you, Be It Till You See It.That's all I got for this episode of the Be It Till You See It podcast. Það er þéttur þáttur hjá okkur þetta skiptið. Tækniskólinn var hakkaður illa og flest allt nettengd datt í gólfið. Neytendastofa kallar eftir því að banna Google Analytics á Íslandi í kjölfarið úrskurða annarra Evrópulanda. The Verge endurhannar vefsíðu sína og það eru allir í Tæknivarpinu brjálaðir. Google Pixelbook vörulínan hefur verið fryst og ekki fleiri fartölvur í bígerð þar. The Verge dómar fyrir Apple þrennuna eru komnir út og þeir eru ekkert sérstakir. Apple kynnti ekki stærstu breytinguna á iPhone 14 á nýafstöðnum viðburði sínum: allt innvolsið hefur verið tekið í gegn og nú er mun auðveldara að gera við hann. En þetta á einungis við iPhone 14 (ekki Pro símana). Victrola gefur út plötuspilara sem getur streymt beint í Sonos-hljóðkerfi. Windows Explorer fær loksins flipa, 9 árum á eftir macOS og enn fleiri árum á eftir Ubuntu. Nvidia kynnti ný og dýr skjákort í vikunni: RTX 4090 og 4080. Logitech ætlar að koma með áhaldanlega skýjaleikjatölvu sem heitir því frábæra nafni G Cloud Gaming Handheld sem kemur í sölu þann 17. október. Við fengum góðar spurningar af Twitter, meðal annars frá @icemandave2 og @kariarnar sem við svöruðum í þættinum. Þessi þáttur er í boði Macland.is sem er að dæla út nýjum Apple þrennum, KFC sem býður upp á BOSS BACON máltíð og Origo sem býður upp á fyrirlestur í netöryggi þann 28. september næstkomandi sem er opinn öllum. If you have walked or ridden your bike through West Laurel Hill Cemetery from the entrance just off the Cynwyd Trail all the way to the Pencoyd exit on Righter's Ferry Road, you have probably passed dozens of mausoleums and gravesites that you had questions about. Now there's an audio narration to help you quench your curiosity. It is done by Joe Lex, the same person who researches and narrates Laurel Hill's twice-monthly podcasts “All Bones Considered: Laurel Hill Stories” and “Biographical Bytes from Bala: West Laurel Hill Stories.” Find out about William Luden, inventor of the mentholated cough drop; Charles Harrah, who made his fortune in Brazil; Eldridge Reeves Johnson, inventor of the Victrola, and many more. And at long last, you can discover the mystery of “Cocktails at Six.” The tour covers only people interred on the right-hand side of the road and takes about 40 minutes. Look for its companion audio covering the other side from Pencoyd back to Barmouth in a few months.
