The ONE TREND that will decide future of humanity is buried deep inside a conspiracy theory whose name we dare not speak.
With its speculative plot including an expedition through the desert, a cryptic treasure map, secret chambers, and a run-in with an ancient sacred crocodile, Pauline E. Hopkins' thrilling afrofuturist 1902 novel Of One Blood; or The Hidden Self calls to mind Black Panther's Wakanda and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Hopkins brings up a lot of questions about race and power in the midst of all this thrilling storytelling, reclaiming Black history in her appeal for racial justice. Guests, Eurie Dahn and Brian Sweeney, colleagues in the English department at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York, edited a brand new edition of Of One Blood for Broadview Press. We all need a good fantasy world to retreat to sometimes – whether it's Hogwarts or Middle Earth, Westeros or Wakanda. But magical thinking can be dangerous too. And escapism isn't always innocent. So where do you draw the line between fantasy and reality? Original Air Date: September 17, 2022 Interviews In This Hour: Why not escape into fantasy? A groundbreaking movie as we enter the beautiful world of Wakanda.
NOTE: This episode was recorded in February, which was prior to the recent allegations regarding Jonathan Majors. Happy Wine Wednesday! Candi and Andre join me this week for the home going services of Queen Ramonda and her son King T'Challa in Marvel's Wakanda Forever.The movie wasted no time addressing the tremendous loss of Chadwick Boseman, so we follow that lead in our discussion and start by talking about the direction Ryan Coogler took in bringing that loss to the screen. We went into the film thinking there would only be one major loss so it was a surprise when Queen Ramonda was tragically killed. I ask Candi and Andre to share their thoughts about that narrative decision. Other topics covered include:Kilmonger's return (ugh)Namor as an antagonistThoughts on storylines for the returning secondary charactersWhat Wakanda Forever as a meditation on grief and loss meant for it as a Marvel filmRyan's original vision for Wakanda Forever before Chadwick's tragic deathPost-credit scene with the wee baby Toussaint What we would've left on the cutting room floor of this long as* filmAnd of course we close with our thirst segment, which was inspired by the African American urge to avoid vast bodies of water. Thanks so much for listening! Friendly reminder - we drink, we know things, we use adult language, and we have a great time.Find and follow Candi on Twitter here. "After the death of his father, T'Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T'Challa's mettle as king -- and as Black Panther -- gets tested when he's drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people." 5 years since the release of 2018's "Black Panther" and I'm still willing to puff my chest out and say it's a Top 5 MCU film of all time! I'd only rank "Infinity War" and "Civil War" as better but only slightly! RIP Chadwick Boseman of course and BTW

Ruth Carter took home the Oscar on Sunday for Best Costume Design in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever." It's the only Oscar the film was awarded, despite being nominated in multiple categories. But it doesn't take the Academy's votes to see that the Black Panther films were a global phenomenon. Hannah Beachler is the production designer who worked with director Ryan Coogler in imagining and crafting the world of Wakand. She came to the University of Michigan's Institute for the Humanities as a guest speaker earlier this year. She shared what it took to design the landscapes, government, and rituals of Wakanda, and the weight that this imagined universe carries for Black audiences around the world. “My ancestors would often say only the most broken people can be great leaders” - Namor The death of star Chadwick Boseman left a huge hole in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that may never be filled. Ryan Coogler decided that instead of recasting his hero, that his follow up to the 2018 Best Picture nominated film would be a film that dealt directly with the loss of the Black Panther. Focusing instead on the great surrounding characters from the original film, this sequel takes us to a Wakanda where Queen Ramonda and Shuri are the only remaining members of its royal family, the world wants to mine it's land for Vibranium, and they are about to go to war with the underwater kingdom of Talokan led by Namor the Submariner.

必须得聊聊《黑豹2》了,但是我会露怯,所以邀请了本期的嘉宾,一位骨灰级漫威迷,我的好朋友定师!!!还有老周!!!!!聊得真高兴。我们讨论的内容和提出的问题:我们就老周写的影评文章《为什么“5.5分”的《黑豹2》仍是最好的超级英雄电影之一》 展开谈了谈:缅怀 Chadwick Boseman,Shuri 身上的两个矛盾以及选择,美国黑人的双重意识,对 Namor 的复杂感受,电影情节的强推让人难以共情,其中的漫威公式为何奇怪,不如第一部纯粹;Ryan Coogler 原来的剧本大概有什么情节;新角色 Riri Williams (Ironheart)的引入,是漫威(或迪士尼)迎合当下主流价值观的一个商业选择;Namor 这样一个复杂有趣的好角色在这部电影中被辜负了,虽然他在原本的漫画中既不重要也是个傻逼;漫威宇宙的价值观可以和黑豹合理共存吗?《黑豹1》可解读的意义非常丰富,除了人物与政治主张冲突是属于黑人的文化和社群内部政治分歧,它上映的川普年代也同样提供了特殊的解读背景;《黑豹2》的意图或许在于回归内心,提供属于精神世界的情感之旅,我们确实看到了关于非洲传统文化中关于死亡、生命、家族遗产的呈现,但它带给我们的却是没有逻辑内核的表层元素堆砌;漫威电影是一个庞大的主题乐园,出于商业考量必然会有很多元素大杂烩和表面化的呈现,非漫威核心的世界观(Wakanda)会表现不适;
There is more than one queen that reigns over Wakanda. That queen is costume designer Ruth Carter, a 4-time Academy Award nominee (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Black Panther, Amistad and Malcolm X), and winner for 2018's Black Panther. She is also an Emmy nominee for Roots, a 3-time Costume Designers Guild Award winner (Coming 2 America, Black Panther, Career Achievement Award), a 3-time Critics' Choice Award winner (Black Panther, Dolemite Is My Name, Black Panther: Wakenda Forever), and so much more. Carter is responsible for the iconic outfits that Marvel favorites like Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o) wear. She was also tasked with creating the outfits for the newly-introduced world of Talokan, like Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and Namora (Mabel Cadena). Carter continues to raise the bar higher and higher, not only for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but for any individual in the profession. In result, Carter was honored with her fourth individual Academy Award nomination for the film, where the film itself garnered five nominations (Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Song, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Costume Design, Best Visual Effects). When asked about The Hollywood Reporter article that was penned by The Woman King director Gina Prince-Bythewood around omissions of Black women for Academy Award nominations, Carter responded, “It's not myopic representation. It's global and I find representation in Bardo. I find representation in Everything Everywhere All At Once. I find representation in Pinocchio. I find representation in Camille Friend, in Angela Bassett, in myself, in Ludwig Göransson. There is a lack of representation of black voices and black images, and for that, I feel sad. Women directors, for that, I feel very sad. I do hail the efforts of those who have films that do speak to the Black community and such. I cannot turn my back on that type of representation as well this year.” We will find out the winners of the Academy Awards on Sunday, March 12. What's next for Ms. Carter? She will continue to stay in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by designing for the reboot of Blade. While tight lipped, she did reveal that, “Mahershala [Ali] has been training for weeks… months. I think we are going to see another Mahershala that I haven't seen yet because he is dedicated.” Blade will be directed by Yann Demange and will be released on September 6, 2024. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever stars Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Critics' Choice and Golden Globe winner Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, Michaela Coel, Martin Freeman, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The film is currently streaming in the Academy screening room and on Disney+.
It's been almost three decades since Angela Bassett emerged in Hollywood as a “totem of empowered Black womanhood,” as Michael Schulman puts it—known for groundbreaking roles in films like “What's Love Got to Do with It” and “How Stella Got Her Groove Back.” Now, at sixty-four, Bassett is nominated for an Oscar for her performance in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” As the fierce, grieving Queen Ramonda, she is the first actor nominated for any Marvel movie. Bassett speaks with Schulman about her preparation for the film, and reflects on how a poetry recitation drove her to acting as a young person. “It was the first recognition for me, at fifteen, that drama, that theatre, that words, that passion from one human being could move another,” she says. “And that maybe I had a gift for it.”
EPISODE 319: Rey is joined by first time podcaster, but avid comic book reader Kala Torres, to chat about one of his favourite characters, Black Panther! This time 'round, it's a review on a comic that has a Moon Knight appearance...and DOES IT have a Moon Knight appearance! To be seen to be believed! SEGMENT: MOON WALK- (NOT A MOON KNIGHT RUN) Klaws of the Panther Vol. 1 #4 'Enter the Black Widow' Release Date December 22, 2010 Cover Date February, 2011 Writer(s) Jonathan Maberry Penciler(s) Gianluca Gugliotta Inker(s) Pepe Larraz Colorist(s) José Villarrubia Letterer(s) Albert Deschesne Editor(s) Lauren Sankovitch BARE BONES (Written by Wiki): Klaw has Spider-Man by the throat. But instead of killing him, he decides to flee to accelerate his plan. When Spidey goes to tell Shuri, she has a shrewd idea where he's going: his satellite in orbit where he's holding M.U.S.I.C. Shuri sends schematics of the satellite to Flea, who determines that they may need an espionage specialist to get in the satellite. Luckily, Spidey knows just the person, as he calls Steve Rogers to bring in Black Widow. At the moment, Widow is recovering NORAD codes form Hydra. Up in space, Klaw muses to M.U.S.I.C. that her father is a fool to have betrayed him. Klaw then begins to implement his plan to use M.U.S.I.C. to mind-control everyone in the world. M.U.S.I.C. pleads him not to do this and asks if being made of sound has made him so isolated from others. In response, Klaw snaps at her, stating that being made of sound is a gift and that isolation is preferable to him as he elevates himself to godhood. Meanwhile, Shuri and Widow meet up, and take a Wakandan space shuttle to find Klaw. On the way, Shuri discuss with Widow whether her compassion is a weakness. At the same time, Spidey calls with the A.I.M. scientist, who pleads for his daughter's life, stating that she's innocent of his crimes. As they approach the station, Flea tells them that Klaw is on alert to their approach. To cover for their infiltration, Flea decides to make a risky distraction by damaging the station and getting hit. Both Shuri and Widow then infiltrate the station but they are too late: Klaw uses M.U.S.I.C. to unleash The Scream, affecting every creature that can hear on Earth. The two try to fight back but Klaw draws on M.U.S.I.C.'s power to amplify his own. Widow distracts Klaw as Shuri gets close to M.U.S.I.C. but she can't bring herself to kill her, even knowing that Klaw would destroy her and Wakanda in retaliation as well as find another victim. Klaw mocks Shuri for her compassion. But before he could kill her, M.U.S.I.C., acting on Shuri's bit of mercy, repulses Klaw from the station. As they free M.U.S.I.C., they get a call from Fela, who has survived. Shuri says that she could kiss him and promises a parade in his honor; Flea asks for permission to faint. Shuri offers to undo what Klaw did to her but M.U.S.I.C. refuses, striving to be better than Klaw. Widow then asks Shuri if she's kept her inner demons under control. Shuri admits that she will not let them control. Widow comments that she's spoken like a truth warrior. MOON RATING : Kala:
We're going small for this podcast and talking about the latest Marvel entry at the cinema, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantummania, the latest Marvel movie on 4K, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and the question that keeps popping up for most MCU fans - will it ever get back on track after Endgame? I guess with Feige's new 80-year plan he's leaving the answer to that question in the hands of his successor(s). So Mark's going to tell us about what everybody should really be watching right now - Eight for Silver - as well as talking about The Woman King on 4K and why Picard may be good again, Tom will be reviewing Ant-Man and singing the praises of Lockwood on Netflix, whilst Simon's still training for his Rocky 4K collection review. And, apart from Wakanda 4K, I'll be talking about Alice, Darling and Empire of Light, and the final season of Carnival Row.
Welcome to the place where we get to let our geek flags fly and talk about all things geek. Basically a fuzzy guide to life, the universe, and everything but mostly geek stuff. This is a look into the world of geekdom and some geek news, comics, The Simpsons, Star Wars, and whatever randomness finds its way onto the recording. This level of the podcast is a SPOILER review of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. You know when a movie drops on Disney+ and Blue finally gets a chance to watch it, it is only a matter of time before the Fuzzball crew talks all about it. We chat initial thoughts, thoughts on transitioning from first movie to the sequel, the expansion of the World of Wakanda and beyond, characters, scenes, moments, themes, history, cultural impacts, stories of loss, and more. As a superfan of T'Challa, I can think of no better fuzzy to join me than Blue. I hope you enjoy the discussion as much as we did having it. Congrats on completing Level 334 of the podcast! Darling it's better down where it's wetter, take it from Namor. Wakanda isn't the only kid in town with fancy vibranium toys, and Toby from The West Wing is teaming up with VP Selina Meyer from Veep to suss it out! Well, that's our take at least. Grab a passing whale and come along for the ride, with some moving tributes to the loss of Chadwick/T'Challa.
Did Wakanda Forever live up to the hype? How was the Black Panther movie without the original Black Panther? Join Herb and Moe as they discuss with two guest stars Joaquin Figueroa and Shawnalle Guzman. What did you like and what would you like to see in the next installment? “I'm a nomadic person, I don't want to stay in one place”. When Baaba writes his music, he takes inspiration from the places he visits. “When I started travelling, I came to London, I bought cassettes, I appreciated different people. And when I got a chance to meet them, we sat down and wrote songs”. But no matter how much Baaba has travelled, and to where, he always brings his music “back home to Podor, Senegal”. Baaba has released his first solo album in seven years, ‘Being', which is inspired by working on the soundtrack to Black Panther and the issues facing the world today, including climate change and desertification in African countries. In today's Ways to Change the World, Baaba sits down with Krishnan Guru-Murthy to discuss the power of music and why we are all politicians in our own way when it comes to helping the world. Produced by: Imahn Robertson and Alice Wagstaffe Music credits: Wakanda by Ludwig Göransson ft. Baaba Maal - Hollywood Records Yela by Baaba Maal - Island Records Ltd. There Will Be Time (Live in South Africa) by Mumford & Sons and Baaba Maal - Gentlemen of the Road, Island, Glassnote

What does it mean to create futuristic costumes from the past? Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter's Afrofuturistic designs imagine the fictional African nation of Wakanda without the influence of colonialism. In “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” she takes this theory to another imagined world that draws on Mesoamerican history. In this episode, Carter breaks down the creative process behind her unique approach to costume design. Ruth E. Carter has been nominated for Best Costume Design at the 95th Academy Awards for her work on “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Watch and listen to more from American Masters.
Have you ever felt alone and like the weight of the world was on your shoulders? This can happen all too often, even if you are the Black Panther!! I recently watched the latest Wakanda Forever film and it profoundly touched me to see how seriously they took their contact with the Ancestral Plane for wisdom and counsel What was the real purpose of that ceremony with his ancestors in the first movie and now this one? Have you ever been curious enough to ask? It can be lonely at the top as we move thru life and figure out our role or purpose as the leaders we were born to be As parents As lovers As business owners As spiritual Beings, having a human/physical experience on this plane It is easy to get lost along the way Soooooo easy to get caught up in the day to day minutia And question our decisions I love the scene in the movie, Wakanda, and realized recently the true depths of T'Challa's visit to the ancestral plane I did this with the help of sacred plants My husband didn't even need that to be able to tap in Everyone is different in this All the answers DO lie within You just got to be willing (and guided) to go there to seek your truth Tune in as myself and my Ghost Whisperer husband, Didier, will share with you how connecting to the ancestral plane has impacted EVERY area of our life and has helped us heal and get to the root causes of soooo many hurts/challenge/limiting beliefs and then some We will talk about how our ancestral healing has helped: **Our marriage **Our family goals **Our careers **Our addictive behaviors **Our view of the world SIGN UP FOR MY 40 DAY CHALLENGE https://40-day-challenge.now.site/ CONTACT THE GHOST WHISPERER HERE https://ghost-whisperer-painter.now.site/
