As far as mantras go, Street Sharks have one about as good as they come. They fight. They bite. They stand for everything right. You can read it on the opening page of each issue of the IDW Publishing series, and as we discuss with writer Stephanie Williams this week, given everything going on in the world, it's worth repeating every time you crack open the comic. Street Sharks may have begun as a cash grab in the wake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' success. However, under Stephanie Williams' direction, in collaboration with artist Ariel Medel, the comic book series distinguishes itself by embracing the Bolton brothers' chill attitude amid abject horror. They're Supergirl to TMNT's Superman. They lived a life before their Krypton exploded. They know what they lost, they lived what they lost, and they still choose to direct their jawesome chompers toward villainy. It's pure superhero comics. You might be thinking, what the Big Slammu are you talking about? Well, you just have to dig into this week's episode to appreciate the comparison truly. We're getting deep with Street Sharks this podcast, discussing community, reluctant heroism, and mob mentality with Stephanie Williams. Two weeks ago, our co-host Lisa didn't know a thing about Street Sharks, but as of today, she's INVESTED. The first four issues of Street Sharks are now available from IDW Publishing. The fifth issue, concluding the first arc, swims into comic shops on February 18th. Street Sharks is written by Stephanie Williams, illustrated by Ariel Medel, colored by Valentina Pinto, and lettered by Jeff Eckleberry. Also, follow Stephanie Williams on Bluesky, Instagram, and her website. This Week's Sponsors This February, Dave Stevens's The Rocketeer soars again in a brand-new story written by John Layman, the genius behind the foodie cannibal detective series Chew, and illustrated by Jacob Edgar, who drew Plastic Man: No More and has a very cool J. Bone/Darwyn Cooke style. The new series is called The Rocketeer: The Island. Our skybound hero, Cliff Secord, leads a dangerous search and rescue mission. Who's he looking for? None other than Amelia Earhart! The first issue crashes into comic book shops on February 25th, courtesy of IDW Publishing. The Future is Calling! 2000 AD is the Galaxy's Greatest Comic, with new issues published every single week! Every 32-page issue of 2000 AD brings you the best in sci-fi and horror, featuring characters like Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper, and more. DC KO: The Kids Are All Fight Special #1 is examined for its focus on younger heroes and its place as a largely skippable but well-drawn tie-in, while Detective Comics #1105 continues Tom Taylor's "The Courage That Kills" arc with deeper insight into the Lion's origin and Gotham's escalating crisis. Harley Quinn #58 is discussed as the start of a new arc that feels tonally familiar, followed by the Supergirl Next Door Valentine's anthology, which offers mixed results across stories spotlighting Supergirl, Jay Garrick, Poison Ivy, Guy Gardner, Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing, Martian Manhunter, and Green Arrow. Green Lantern #31 features a nostalgic Hal Jordan and Barry Allen team-up that advances Jeremy Adams' larger arc in subtle ways, while Superman #34 pushes Superboy Prime further into moral conflict against the Dark Legion. Absolute Martian Manhunter #8 stands out for its conceptual storytelling and increased narrative momentum, The Flash #29 introduces Dream Girl as a potential crack in Darkseid's Legion, and Harley and Ivy: Love and Crimes #3 explores the early dynamics between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy with a more grounded emotional approach. Justice League Unlimited #15 and Justice League Red #6 wrap major threads involving Neuron, time-displaced heroes, and Red Tornado's reckoning, while Absolute Batman #16 delivers a character-driven underworld journey with Wonder Woman that highlights Bruce Wayne's loyalty and sacrifice. Absolute Flash #11 provides major revelations about the Still Point and the source of Wally West's power, and Absolute Wonder Woman #16 launches the "Season of the Witch" arc with Absolute Zatanna and a reimagined Suicide Squad, setting the stage for one of the week's most consequential confrontations.

It's a new King's speech with writer Tom King We open with breaking ground on the big screen. Tom King talks about the upcoming Supergirl movie and how his Eisner-winning comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow became the creative DNA for the film. In Trinity, Tom breaks down the core idea behind the series—using time travel not as a gimmick, but as a way to finally let Wonder Woman's daughter Lizzie truly know her father. Through fractured timelines and lived-in moments, Lizzie comes to understand Steve Trevor not as a legend or a memory, but as a man. It's personal, it's intfilm, imate, and it reframes the Trinity legacy in a way that sticks. We also widen the lens and talk Wonder Woman herself—what she represents now, what she's always represented, and why writing her requires a different emotional frequency than almost any other character in comics. And yes—we go there. Tom is candid about his lingering regret in the Bat-corner of the DC Universe: Alfred Pennyworth is still gone, and Tom reflects on the weight of that decision, the permanence of death in superhero storytelling, and how it continues to haunt his run on Batman. This is a thoughtful, honest, and creative deep dive—less about plot mechanics, more about legacy, consequence, and emotion.

The latest DC Spotlight is live as Jace and Rocky break down a smaller but strong slate of DC releases for the week of January 14, 2026, offering full rankings and detailed discussion across eight books. The episode opens with Court: Children of the Round Table #5, where Tom Taylor delivers another major cliffhanger revealing Felicity's shocking connection to Mordred and continuing the series' younger-reader focus within main DC continuity. Aquaman #13 shifts attention away from Arthur himself to spotlight Mera, deepening Xebel lore, introducing new mysteries around Andrina's imperial ambitions, and setting up long-term consequences tied to DC KO. In Action Comics #1094, Mark Waid explores Superboy's moral conflict as he undertakes a military rescue mission under General Lane, raising questions about agency, responsibility, and secrecy, while reactions to the noir-leaning art remain mixed. The Wonder Woman Black & Gold 2026 Special earns discussion for its experimental format, standout visuals from Mitch Gerads, and a thematically heavy Steve Orlando story examining truth, belief, and manipulation through the Golden Lasso. Supergirl #9 leans hard into character drama as a New Year's party spirals into fallout that challenges Kara's role as a mentor and forces a reckoning with Lesla's fate and Kandorian biology. Batman and Robin #29 continues Philip Kennedy Johnson's acclaimed Quiet Man arc, pushing the Ventriloquist mythology to disturbing new depths while strengthening Bruce and Damian's evolving father-son dynamic. DC KO #3 escalates the tournament with creative team-ups, major eliminations, Lex Luthor's calculated use of Supergirl, Joker's chaotic advantage, and a cliffhanger teasing Absolute-inspired threats. The episode closes with Green Lantern Corps #12, where Morgan Hampton juggles multiple Lantern factions, Larfleeze's assault on Oa, Fatality's uncertain allegiance, and a looming planetary threat, delivering a dense, fast-paced issue that emerges as the week's top contender.

Meanwhile, Netflix's Stranger Things series finale generated between 25 to 28 million dollars from a limited two-day theatrical run across 600 theaters on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, with exhibitors selling concession vouchers rather than traditional tickets and keeping all revenue themselves as an olive branch between the streamer and theaters. Simu Liu has publicly endorsed his Copenhagen Test co-star Melissa Barrera to play Wonder Woman in James Gunn's DC Universe, praising her stunt training as Wonder Woman-esque and calling her a total badass who puts in the work.
