Back Over My Shoulder podcasts are recordings I have made of columns I’d written for The Post-Star of Glens Falls, NY. These columns are filled with history of the area from Ticonderoga to Saratoga, and a little beyond. The columns also include my reminiscences of growing up in and living in various communities throughout it. Because I know that many people think root canals are more fun than reading history, I 've written mine to make history interesting and enjoyable--and I hope you will enjoy these!
Thank you for tuning into my Back Over My Shoulder podcast, originally scheduled for January 6, the birthday of Sherlock Holmes. I delayed posting this because of the reprehensible terrorist attack on our nation's Capitol on that day. This episode is “Holmes' visit in 1894 left few clues, my dear Watson.” In it, I tell of the time when Sir Arthur Conan Doyle spoke in Glens Falls. In my podcasts, I read an “Over My Shoulder” column selected from my three-volume collection of “Over My Shoulder” columns, originally published in The Post-Star of Glens Falls, NY. The newest volume, Over My Shoulder 3, has just been published. All three volumes, along with my other books, are available at: Battenkill Books, Cambridge, NY 12816; (518) 677-2515; Chapman Museum, Glens Falls, NY 12801; (518) 793-2826; Northshire Bookstore Saratoga, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866; (518) 682-4200; Warren County Historical Society, Queensbury, NY 12804; (518) 743-0734; Amazon.com in print and digital formats. Hope you enjoy this podcast! Thanks! In this podcast I share some “cultural history,” memories, and rules of the road for “Cruisin'” — that great American teenage rite of passage of driving up and down Main Street looking for fun, love, and maybe even a bit of trouble! Got your seatbelt on?
This second Back Over My Shoulder podcast is about the Confederate flag controversy that still rages on in our country—and why it should be a dead issue. Let me know what you think!
Hi, I'm historian and author Joe Cutshall-King. Recently I've been publishing volumes of my “Over My Shoulder,” columns that I wrote for The Post-Star of Glens Falls, NY. Now, I'm recording them in podcasts. The columns contain history from all over this region, as well as my own reminiscences of my life in these parts. This first episode falls into that second category! Hope you enjoy “A Baby and a Circus!”
