Why do you secretly feel like a fraud? Most of us have a gap, sometimes a small one and sometimes a canyon, between the person other people see and the person we know we actually are. And underneath all of it is a low grade exhaustion of pretending. In this sermon, Pastor Brandon opens the second week of our Counterfeit Kings series with a king almost no one has heard of, Abijah (also called Abijam), and uses his story to expose something deeply true about most of our lives. Abijah has two biographies in Scripture. In 2 Chronicles 13, he stands in front of a hostile army outnumbered two to one and delivers a speech so confident in God that you would cast him as the hero of a movie. In 1 Kings 15, the same man is summarized in one sentence. His heart was not fully devoted to the Lord, and he repeated the sins of his father.Pastor Brandon shows that these two biographies are not a contradiction. They are the same king described by two different writers, to two different audiences, asking two different questions. Kings is asking, how did we get here? Chronicles is asking, where do we go from here? And the painful thing is that most of us have the exact same problem. There is a version of us our family sees, our coworkers see, our social media followers see. And there is a version of us only God sees. And the gap between those two is the most exhausting thing about being human.Pastor Brandon does not let the question sit theoretical. He asks it straight. If God wrote your biography today and pressed print, would you stop the press? That is the diagnostic. The fix is not better performance. It is not polishing your image. The fix is wholehearted devotion to God in every compartment of your life, including the ones you have locked the door on. Pastor Brandon takes us to Psalm 139:23 to 24 ("search me and know me"), and reminds us that the unexamined life is not worth living. He challenges men in particular this Father's Day, because the people who suffer most from our two biography living are our spouse and our kids. And then the message lands at the cross. Jesus is the one king whose public and private life matched perfectly. He loved the Father with all his heart, all his soul, and all his much. On the cross, he was treated the way we deserve, so we can be treated the way he deserves. In his resurrection, he does not just forgive your divided heart, he moves in. The very life of God fuses to yours. He does not say "now do better." He says "now I will help you."If you have been carrying the weight of a hidden chapter, this teaching is for you. The good news is God is not done writing your biography.

Join us for a remarkable story of survival, courage, chance, and resilience as Doug Cervi shares the life of Holocaust survivor David Wisnia (1926–2021), whose experiences spanned some of the darkest and most consequential events of the twentieth century. Born into a Jewish family in Warsaw, Poland, David was a gifted singer whose voice would help save his life after he was deported to Auschwitz at age sixteen. There, amid unimaginable brutality, he survived by performing for Nazi guards and fellow prisoners. He endured the horrors of Auschwitz, a death march across Europe, and a daring escape before being liberated by soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division. Remarkably, the teenager who emerged from the camps went on to serve as an interpreter with the American Army as it advanced into Germany. Years later, David built a new life in the United States, becoming a cantor, educator, and tireless witness to history. His story gained international attention through the memoir One Voice, Two Lives, which recounts both his wartime experiences and a long-hidden chapter of love and survival in Auschwitz. Doug Cervi, who worked closely with David on preserving and sharing his story, returns to the Veterans Breakfast Club to recount David's extraordinary journey and reflect on the responsibility of keeping eyewitness history alive after the witnesses themselves are gone. This program offers a powerful firsthand window into the Holocaust, liberation, and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

Why do you feel stuck between two relationships… and unable to move forward? After (or even during) an affair, it's common to feel pulled in different directions, torn between a long-term relationship and a new emotional connection. Many people describe this as feeling “stuck,” unsure of what to do next. But what if you're not actually stuck? In this episode of After the Affair, Luke explores the hidden dynamic behind indecision after infidelity. Why do people stay in limbo, holding onto two lives at once? What are they really avoiding? And what is the emotional cost of not choosing? This episode breaks down: Why feeling “stuck” after an affair is often decision avoidance The illusion of a “third option” (waiting, delaying, hoping for clarity) The emotional and psychological cost of staying in limbo Why hope can keep you attached to something that isn't sustainable How avoiding loss actually creates more pain over time What it means to take responsibility for your next step Whether you're navigating conflicting attachments, struggling to let go, or waiting for clarity that never seems to come, this episode will help you understand what's really happening, and what needs to change. Key Takeaways Feeling stuck between two lives is often a form of decision avoidance Not choosing is still a choice, and it has consequences Holding onto multiple possibilities delays loss but increases emotional strain Hope can become a trap when it keeps you tied to uncertain outcomes Clarity rarely comes from waiting, it comes from honest engagement Real progress begins when you're willing to face the cost of choosing If you feel pulled in different directions, emotionally overwhelmed, or stuck in a cycle of indecision, you don't have to figure this out on your own. My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Eric F Goldstein, author of the book Taught. As a middle and high school teacher, Eric Goldstein founded the Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization, One World Education. Through programs that teach writing skills through social justice, the organization has transformed more than 65,000 students into writers with voice, knowledge, and purpose. Inspired by two decades of listening to students tell their stories, Eric's debut novel, TAUGHT, released in January 2026.   In my book review, I stated Taught is a contemporary literary fiction that follows a teacher and a former student on a week-long journey. However, this journey is not something either one planned.   Jerry Brown's life is a mess. He's likely to lose his job as a teacher. He and his wife are having issues. And Malik, a former student, is beat by police during a protest. He decides to go camping and write graduation letters to his students. But before he gets out of town, Malik shows up. So, they leave together.   This is not a fast-paced story, but one where the back stories leak out slowly and deliberately. We see Jerry doubting himself as a teacher and husband. We see Malik doubt himself as a student and friend. Both doubt whether they can live up to the title of 'man'. And, as the reader, we feel the pain.   Race plays a huge role in the story, allowing us to glimpse lives we might not otherwise experience - and allowing us to ask the hard questions. Is racism real? Is it everywhere? Do people experience a stop in a backwoods gas station differently depending on their skin? And, more importantly, what can - or should - we do about it?   I definitely suggest this one for your TBR.   Subscribe to Online for Authors to learn about more great books! https://www.youtube.com/@onlineforauthors?sub_confirmation=1   Join the Novels N Latte Book Club community to discuss this and other books with like-minded readers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3576519880426290   You can follow Author Eric F Goldstein Website: www.onelongroad.com IG: @ericfgoldstein   Purchase Taught on Amazon: Paperback: https://amzn.to/3NilBFl   Teri M Brown, Author and Podcast Host: https://www.terimbrown.com FB: @TeriMBrownAuthor IG: @terimbrown_author X: @terimbrown1   Want to be a guest on Online for Authors? Epaphroditus is not a well-known figure in the New Testament, but in just a few verses, the Apostle Paul holds him up as a powerful example of a life transformed by grace. In Philippians 2:25–30, we see what the gospel produces in a believer. This sermon explores Paul's description of Epaphroditus as a brother, fellow worker, fellow soldier, messenger, and minister. If you have ever wondered what faithful Christian service truly looks like, or whether costly obedience is worth it, this passage gives a clear and compelling answer: grace shapes ordinary people into courageous servants of Christ.

What does the gospel actually produce in a person's life? In Philippians 2:19–24, the Apostle Paul points us to Timothy—not as a hero to imitate, but as a life shaped by the self-giving love of Jesus Christ. In a world (and even a church culture) often driven by self-interest, Timothy stands out because he is “genuinely concerned” for the good of others. This sermon explores: Why Paul trusted Timothy so deeply How self-interest distorts Christian life and ministry How the gospel reshapes what we care about over time Why true Christian service flows from Christ's self-giving love Rather than calling us to “try harder,” this passage shows us what happens when the weight and glory of Christ's gospel rest on a life long enough to shape it.

New York indie-pop group Wet, sometimes melancholic, sometimes bright, and always soulful, has just released Two Lives, a memoir-ish bittersweet reflection on life's major transitions, featuring some of vocalist Kelly Zutrau's most accomplished songwriting yet. With deconstructed R&B elements, dreamy textures, and a lot of vulnerability, Wet plays some of their “their signature slow-burning electro-pop” (Chicago Reader) in the studio. Set list: 1.  Shut My Eyes 2. Delaware has become the 12th U.S. state to legalize medical aid in dying. In this deeply personal episode of The Non-Prophets, the hosts discuss the hard-won passage of House Bill 140 and the dignity it affords terminally ill patients. They examine the safeguards, ethical debates, and religious opposition to such laws—and why support remains strong despite decades of resistance. This is a story of autonomy, compassion, and the right to choose a peaceful end.The Friendly Atheist, “At long last, Delaware enacts ‘death with dignity' law”By Hemant Mehta, May 29, 2025https://www.friendlyatheist.com/p/at-long-last-delaware-enacts-deathThe Non-Prophets 24.23.3 with Eli, AJ, and Kelley LaughlinDelaware Legalizes Death with Dignity

On Thanksgiving Day in 1982, the body of Ruth Elizabeth Bettis was found in a field in rural Travis County. She was last seen leaving her place of employment, Sugar's adult entertainment, the evening before with a mystery man. The seemingly contradicting two worlds in which she lived, that of a coed and that of a topless dancer, made the Travis County Sheriff's Department's investigation unusual...and difficult. Though a serial rapist and a cop were scrutinized for Elizabeth's slaying, a lack of evidence had prevented movement on the case, and it remains unsolved today. If you have any information about the murder of Ruth Elizabeth Bettis please call Texas Crime Stoppers at 800 252 8477.You can support gone cold and listen to the show ad-free at patreon.com/gonecoldpodcastFind us at https://www.gonecold.comFor Gone Cold merch, visit https://gonecold.dashery.comFollow gone cold on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, and X.
