We love our boomer moms. And our boomer moms are complicated. When Tracy Clark-Flory first told me about her memoir — in which she discovers the half-sister her mother had at age 19, and was forced to give up for adoption — I immediately thought about how so many of our boomer moms' choices were limited in ways we struggle to imagine. No matter how feminist their current politics may be, it doesn't change the fact that so many of them grew up (and became adults) in deeply patriarchal, racist, restrictive, and incredibly anti-sex families and communities. So in this episode, Tracy and I work to activate some deep empathy for boomer moms just generally — but we're also very real about how some of the patterns they couldn't escape have affected their children. We talk about boomer moms who loathe feminism, who've dealt with un-present partners, who struggle with bitterness, who reproduce the criticalness of their own parents, and who really, really want to give gifts. This weekend's Astronomy Daily wraps up the biggest stories from across the cosmos, starting with two completely fresh discoveries — a 1976 ocean rock that's turned out to hold atomic-scale proof of an ancient neutron star collision, and a record-breaking rocket launch from Europe's Ariane 6. Then we wind back through the week for our four biggest headlines: a new crew for Artemis III, JWST's salty 'Pink Planet' discovery, an update on the daring Swift Observatory rescue mission, and China's Tianwen-2 closing in on its target asteroid. Story 1: A Kilonova's Fingerprint, Found in a 1976 Ocean Rock • A rock sample dredged from the Pacific seafloor in 1976 has been found to contain a few hundred atoms of plutonium radioisotopes. • The plutonium originated from a kilonova — a collision between two neutron stars — that occurred over 100 million years ago. • Stellar debris from the merger settled to Earth and was slowly incorporated into a ferromanganese crust on the ocean floor. • Isotope ratios provide the strongest physical clues yet to what created the elements and roughly when the merger occurred. • Study published 18 June 2026. Story 2: Ariane 6 Smashes Its Own Heaviest-Payload Record • On 17 June 2026, an Ariane 64 rocket launched 36 Amazon Leo satellites from French Guiana (mission VA269 / LE-03). • First flight of new P160C solid boosters — about a metre longer than the previous P120C, holding up to 156 tonnes of propellant each. • Boosters deliver roughly a 10% performance increase, raising Ariane 64's LEO capacity to approximately 22 tonnes. • The mission broke the 13-year record for heaviest payload ever launched by an Ariane rocket, previously held by the 2013 ATV 'Albert Einstein' resupply flight. • Eighth Ariane 6 launch overall; 100th Amazon Leo satellite deployed by Arianespace. Story 3: Artemis III Crew Revealed • NASA announced the Artemis III crew on 9 June 2026 at Johnson Space Center: Commander Randy Bresnik, Pilot Luca Parmitano (ESA), and Mission Specialists Frank Rubio and Andre Douglas, with Bob Hines as backup. • The Artemis II crew (Wiseman, Glover, Koch, Hansen) symbolically passed their lunar baton to the new crew. • Artemis III is a two-week test flight in low Earth orbit to test docking procedures between Orion and commercial landers from SpaceX and Blue Origin. • Targeted for launch as early as late 2027, ahead of a planned lunar surface landing in 2028. • Will be Andre Douglas's first spaceflight. Story 4: JWST Cracks the 'Pink Planet' Mystery • JWST has confirmed salt clouds in the atmosphere of GJ504b, the 'Pink Planet,' located 57 light-years away. • First direct evidence of salt clouds on a cold substellar companion object, a phenomenon theorised 15 years ago. • At approximately 550°F, GJ504b is the coldest companion object ever directly imaged. • Its true nature remains uncertain — it may be a giant planet or a brown dwarf. • Research led by a Northwestern University team. Story 5: The Swift Rescue Mission Heads for the Pacific • NASA's Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory (orbiting since 2004) faces premature reentry due to orbital decay accelerated by recent solar activity. • Katalyst Space Technologies' LINK robotic servicing spacecraft will attempt to grapple and boost Swift to a safer ~600km orbit. • LINK launches on a Northrop Grumman Pegasus XL rocket, carried by Stargazer, the last flying Lockheed L-1011 TriStar. • Stargazer departed NASA Wallops Flight Facility on 18 June 2026, en route to Kwajalein Atoll via California and Hawai'i. • Launch targeted for 27 June 2026; if successful, it will be the first capture of an unprepared US government satellite by a commercial vehicle. Story 6: Tianwen-2 Closes In on Kamo'oalewa • China's Tianwen-2 spacecraft, launched May 2025, completed orbital insertion at near-Earth asteroid Kamo'oalewa on 7 June 2026. • Amateur radio trackers in Germany detected fine ion-engine course-correction burns between 11–14 June 2026. • Rendezvous and sample collection are expected around 4 July 2026. • Kamo'oalewa is a 40–100 metre quasi-satellite of Earth; its origin (possibly a lunar fragment) remains scientifically debated. • After sample return, Tianwen-2 will travel on to rendezvous with comet 311P/PanSTARRS in 2035.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/astronomy-daily-space-news-updates--5648921/support.Sponsor Details:Ensure your online privacy by using NordVPN. On the 116th episode of Bomb Squad Matinee, Tanner, Austin, Tim, and special guest Lauren Divito discuss Boots Riley's latest satirical comedy I Love Boosters. Following his 2018 film Sorry to Bother You, does Boots' newest film live up to his last one? What makes the visual style of this film so unique? What does this film have to say about class? Tune in to find out!
In which Kid 1 joins me in reviewing I LOVE BOOSTERS (2026), an absurdist crime comedy from writer/director Boots Riley. A struggling aspiring designer named Corvette (Keke Palmer) leads a crew of shoplifters known as "The Velvet Gang" who steal high-end fashion to redistribute it to their community at a discount. Their radical "fashion-forward philanthropy" escalates into a surreal, high-stakes conflict when Corvette decides to target the haughty billionaire fashion mogul Christie Smith (Demi Moore) after discovering the designer has stolen one of her personal creations. As their quest for justice descends into chaos involving bizarre technology and a battle against corporate exploitation, the group must navigate a rapidly unraveling reality to challenge the systemic inequality of the fashion industry. The film clocks in at 1 h 53 m, is rated R and is currently in theaters - go check it out. We're back with some more Gilmore Girls! Join us in this journey on social media - @gilmorethemerrierpod. ABOUT: GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 2 EPISODE 7) Lorelai is appalled to find herself modelling matching outfits with her mother after volunteering the inn as a venue for a charity fashion show, and Rory seeks to overturn her reputation as a loner. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR: GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 2 EPISODE 7) November 13, 2001 | The WB CAST & CREW OF: GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 2 EPISODE 7) Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore Alexis Bledel as Rory Gilmore BRAN'S GILMORE GIRLS (SEASON 2 EPISODE 7) SYNOPSIS The car battery is dead. That leads to some classic Gilmore Girl banter. At school, Rory is called to the Guidance Counselor's office. Apparently, there's concern over her social behavior. She's unapproachable. She's a loner. So Lorelai shows up to give Headmaster Charleston a piece of her mind and he's like well....you're not a very active parent. You're a bit of a loner. You should think about being more involved. Rory takes the criticism to heart and sits down with some random girls at lunch. After lunch, Paris comes over and is like HOW'D YOU GET THE INVITE TO SIT DOWN WITH THE PUFFS? Rory has no idea what she's talking about. Apparently that friend group that she randomly sat with is the popular girls. Paris asks her to help her sit at their table. The popular table extends to the Boosters which Lorelai shows up for. They're planning the fall fundraiser. Lorelai offers to hold the event at the Inn. Rory successfully gets Paris an invite to sit at the Puffs table. At the inn, they're getting ready for the event and one of the Booster moms takes quite the liking to Luke. Apparently, the moms all do a fashion show and Lorelai & Emily are teamed up and Emily is LOVING life, dancing to Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. And Lorelai eventually joins in. Afterwards, Emily points out that it's interesting to see her fitting in so well into the world that she ran away from. The Puffs show up and kidnap Rory and the other new potential Puffs. They're being PUFF'd! They break into Headmaster Charleston's office and just as Rory is saying her pledge to the Puffs, the night is ruined by Headmaster Charleston. He's lecturing them when Rory speaks up - I'm only here because you all demanded that I begin to socialize. So I sat down at a random table and was kidnapped in the middle of the night all because I was trying to appease you! Headmaster Charleston tells her that she's right and that he will make sure this doesn't count against her. Lorelai tells Luke she doesn't want him to go out with that mom from the Boosters. They argue and then he says she only asked him for directions. The episode ends with Rory back at her own table at lunch and is joined by another girl who also only wants to read. This week, we review Boots Riley's sophomore feature, I Love Boosters, an absurdist comedy skewering capitalist rot at the center of the fashion industry. An enthusiastic reflection of Riley's own politics, I Love Boosters features an infectious display of surrealist humor, eye-popping visuals, and labor-of-love practical effects; but is it enough to cover its everything-and-the-kitchen-sink approach? We discuss the movie, go on a Star Wars tangent, and give an update on our Summer Box Office Wager.
In this episode, we review the 2026 crime comedy I Love Boosters, the second film written and directed by Boots Riley, starring Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, LaKeith Stanfield, and Demi Moore. We discuss whether this film is a strong follow-up to his well-received movie Sorry to Bother You. We also debate whether his writing style remains unique and entertaining without becoming too over-the-top or preachy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

As our co-host Zoe Rom puts it: "Women are told they need to do fasting, creatine, lifting, fueling, and recovery differently than men. Sometimes the science backs it. More often the "different" is a marketing mechanism: invent a gendered problem, sell a gendered protocol, collect the markup." What's going on here? I watched footage of Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin rocket explode on launch and it got me thinking about something far more personal: who actually belongs in your ship. In this episode, I break down the rocket booster principle and why holding on to the wrong people past their purpose is exactly what sends you crashing back to Earth. This is not about cutting people off carelessly. It is about being honest with yourself about roles, energy, and who is genuinely on your mission. The people in your past and present who believed in you are counting on you to reach orbit. Key Takeaways Not everyone who is a good person deserves a seat in your future. People have roles, and those roles have seasons. The hardest part of any launch is escaping gravity. The fuel that gets you off the ground is not always what carries you into orbit. Identify who is in the ship with you versus who is a rocket booster. Both matter, but they require different levels of your energy. Some people are not trying to fly anywhere. They just want to burn your fuel. Removing them is not cruelty, it is survival. Everyone who believed in you at any stage of your journey is banking on you to keep going. You owe it to them to reach your level. Action Steps Write down the names of two or three people who are genuinely in the ship with you and intentionally invest more energy into those relationships this week. Identify one person in your life who consistently drains your energy without contributing to your mission and begin reducing how much fuel you pour into that dynamic. Reflect on a past relationship or friendship that faded and reframe it as a rocket booster moment. They did their job. Honor that by continuing to fly. Notable Quote Once those silos have outlived their purpose, they become a liability. And if you hang on to them out of gratitude, the whole thing falls back to Earth.

This week on CinemaChat, we dive into I Love Boosters (2026), the latest wildly original film from Boots Riley. Set in a surreal version of the Bay Area, the film follows Corvette (Keke Palmer) and her crew of fashion-savvy shoplifters as they target a ruthless fashion mogul who profits from stolen ideas and exploited labor. What starts as a stylish heist comedy quickly evolves into a bizarre mix of social satire, science fiction, labor activism, and anti-capitalist commentary. We discuss Riley's trademark blend of absurd humor and political messaging, the film's stacked ensemble cast, its unforgettable visual style, and whether its ambitious ideas come together as successfully as his previous work, Sorry to Bother You. Is I Love Boosters a bold and brilliant satire, or does it get lost in its own ambitions? Join us as we break down the performances, themes, weirdest moments, and whether this fashion-fueled revolution belongs on your must-watch list. Vulture critic Roxana Hadadi joins Adam to break down the first theatrical Star Wars feature in eight years, The Mandalorian and Grogu. They discuss whether its wall-to-wall action reveals true character, how the helmet creates a literal performance straitjacket, and if the film works for anyone walking into the theater without three seasons of television homework. Then, they pivot to a very different kind of crew in Boots Riley’s politically uncompromising sophomore feature I Love Boosters. This week, the OG three Steve, Dana, and Julia dig into the visually stuffed, Marxist smorgasbord that is Boots Riley's latest film I Love Boosters. Starring Keke Palmer and Demi Moore, the candy-colored agitprop is about exploitation, the fashion world, shoplifting as class warfare, and— as they discuss—perhaps more than one movie can handle. Next they turn from Marx to Freud and analyze the critically adored reality TV phenomenon Couples Therapy, now entering its fifth season. Is the office of Dr. Orna Guralnik a site of transcendent psychological revelation or panoptic exploitation? They unpack. Finally, they talk lingvo itself by way of a recent article in Harpers by Katie Thornton about the unlikely resurgence of interest in the artificial language Esperanto. A group of shoplifters (Keke Palmer, Taylour Paige, Naomi Ackie) take aim at a ruthless fashion maven (Oscar-nominee Demi Moore) by stealing her clothes and reselling them at a lower price, partially out of revenge for her stealing several of their fashion designs. This is the latest opus from writer/director Boots Riley (Sorry To Bother You) and that overall description doesn't really do it justice to the many crazy turns which this sci-fi/corporate satire takes. The stacked cast also includes Lakeith Stanfield, Eiza Gonzalez, Poppy Liu, Will Poulter, and Don Cheadle. Get ready for a wild, genre-defying ride!Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon Send us Fan MailSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
In the new film I Love Boosters, Keke Palmer is the ringleader of a shoplifting crew that squares off with an unethical fashion CEO played by Demi Moore. It's from the bizarro visionary director Boots Riley (Sorry to Bother You) and it may be his most delightfully unhinged project yet.
