David and John Daughety are Bruised Fruits. Like many in the LGBTQ+ community, they’ve been navigating the highways and byways of living in a world that can often be cruel and unforgiving. Spirituality isn't about religion, it's about connection to something greater than ourselves. We are mind, body…
David and John are baaaaack! Sort of. Current events (COVID-19) derailed our planned topics, but we wanted to give a little something that we hope will help.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/bruisedfruits)
This was our last episode before the world blew up from the COVID-19 pandemic. We knew this would be our last episode for a while - or maybe forever - but we wanted to do the little bit we could to spread calm while the world erupted in fear.
David and John are taking a short pause to re-evaluate and re-align Bruised Fruits so that they can provide the best content possible. This won't take too long - just a few weeks. Be sure to subscribe so you'll know the moment we release the next episode. Thanks for listening!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/bruisedfruits)
David and John dive in to a very tough topic: weaponized religion. A man by the name of McKrae Game, who ran conversion therapy centers recently came out as homosexual, and Brianna Bell, who'd been a deeply anti-LGBTQ+ evangelical, renounced her old doctrine for something more inclusive. We jump in and discuss the motivations behind becoming a spiritual abuser and later transformation.John goes deep to bring up things about his own history as it relates to being the abuser while trying to hide his truth. David helps John see how together they have closed the circle. David gets more fried chicken.* We mention suicide and depression in this episode. If you or someone you love is thinking about suicide, please get help immediately. | https://www.thetrevorproject.org/get-help-now/ | Trevor Project Lifeline (866) 488-7386 | The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (800) 273-825Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/bruisedfruits)
Trigger warning: This episode addresses so-called "gay conversion therapy" which the American Psychiatric Association and many other medical associations have condemned. We understand that this is a very difficult and sensitive subject, but we feel it is an important one to address. This episode may trigger intense emotions, so please listen at your discretion.David and John explore how they felt after reading about McRae Game, who founded a "conversion therapy" program and then, in 2019, came out as gay.
This audio is taken from John's YouTube channel, It's Just a Thought. In this episode, John talks about what love is and how loving yourself is a gateway to healing. Since self-love and self-respect are cornerstones to personal growth and healing, we thought it would be good to publish this episode here at Bruised Fruits.https://www.patreon.com/bruisedfruitshttps://bruisedfruits.comSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/bruisedfruits)
Originally published in January 2020, this episode introduces your hosts, David and John Daughety. We were still feeling our way around and not quite sure of the direction we'd take. And then the pandemic hit. David and John were fortunate to remain employed at the pandemic's onset. Still, their work pulled them into overtime and overdrive, taking away the time they would have had to dedicate to Bruised Fruits. They'd plan to return to producing Bruised Fruits when things settled down, and now, after two years, they're back.We don't know the precise direction we're going to take - and we like it that way. What we do know is that our ultimate goal is to bring peace and calm to a crazy world and to help as many people as we can along the way.
In our very first podcast episode, we (David and John Daughety) give our own personal backgrounds and feelings about religion and spirituality with relationship to our own experiences in particular and the LGBTQ+ community as a whole. We also discuss what the podcast is about and the directions we want to go with it.Thanks for listening! Thanks for your supporthttps://bruisedfruits.comSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/bruisedfruits)
