Every episode, comedians and best friends, Betsy Kenney and Dara Katz, pick one topic—from Teen Mom to filmmaking—to chat about. Cool, right?
In this final episode of “season 1” (as we’re calling it in these here parts), Dara brings in author (and friend!) Lindsay Champion to guide all of us aspiring published authors in how to write a book. We’re talking process, programs and resources, how to land an agent and how to sell it! This is some deep insider knowledge, so take notes! And go read Lindsay’s wonderful YA novel, Someday Somewhere. Thank you all for listening! We’ll be back in a bit with Betsy in tow for “season 2”.Intro song “Why-Why” by Ketsa (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)
We wrap up the slow burn that was season 9 of Teen of Mom OG. Dara and guest host (and Teen Mom OG aficionado), Caitlin Bitzegaio go through all the gals’ story arcs this season, which ultimately left us wondering if Cheyenne and McKenzie need to go and leave the 3 real OGs—the Michael, the Scottie, the….Steve Kerr??—to keep the franchise going. Thank you Amber, Catelynn (and Tyler) and Maci for sharing a decade of your lives with us on the show we love to hate. And wow. Dr. Drew. WTF? Intro song “Why-Why” by Ketsa (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)
We’re recapping Summer House (season 5 episodes 10 & 11). With Betsy on maternity leave, Dara brings in a very special co-host, lover boy of Summer House (and, yes, Lover Boy the drink), her husband, Lincoln Boehm. From Des (and Robert’s) arrival to the house with no oven to Luke’s incredible late-season 180, we still can’t get over “We didn't kiss on the first date, and on the second date we fucked.” Uhhhh, no thank you!!! Mark June 18, 2021 on your cals. We’re getting married in Jersey City, baby!!!Intro song “Why-Wait” by Ketsa (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)
We’re back to recapping Teen Mom OG season 9, episodes 6-9, and in typical Teen Mom fashion, so much happens, and yet…so little happens. Amber re-launches the sexy and comfy Forever Hope, Larry steps in some doggie doo doo by talking to the press (like…c’mon, Lar!!!), Caitlyn and Tyler exercise their right to vote for the first time (for Biden, presumably), McKenzie waxes poetic about the beauty of Florida, Cheyenne shops for diamonds and Maci survives a shocking and terrifying shooting. All this, and more…but not that much more. Thank you you listening!!Intro song “Why-Wait” by Ketsa (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)
We recap Summer House, the little-engine-that-could show from Bravo that has made its way from the bullpen to the starting line up (of our DVRs), baby!! We’re talking episodes 5-8 and A LOT goes down. Hannah and Kyle fight for alpha position within the house—and psst: DO NOT BRING UP HANNAH’S DAD. Carl leaves, comes back to the Hamptons to quarantine and emerges from his cocoon to start some of the biggest Luke drama of the season. Lindsay ends her relationship with Stravvy in the most business of all business phone calls we’ve ever heard; the Giggly Squad tries to take down Luke and Lindsay via a DM from a random psychic. Don’t text Ciara after 9 p.m.. And get Kyle Cooke some cans! We’re getting vaccinated and we want our Lover Boy. Intro song “Why-Wait” by Ketsa (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)
We get lots (OK, like, two) questions on how we made our shorts. A little background: Last year, our short film Tapes was selected for the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. Before that, our film Amazing Bagel had a great festival run at Maryland Film Festival, Calgary International Film Festival and won the Audience Choice Award at the Nitehawk Shorts Fest. We are not your typical filmmakers, but we did it! And if it’s a passion of yours, you can do it too. Here’s how we made our short films, from writing, gathering a crew, finding locations, nabbing talent, editing footage and applying to festivals. And yes, we talk about MONEY because honey, we got to. Thanks for listening :) Intro song “Why-Wait” by Ketsa (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)
Hosts Betsy Kenney and Dara Katz review the (as of publication) five-time Oscar-nominated Promising Young Woman, written and directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Carey Mulligan. While we were sooo excited about this movie, can’t say we were obsessed. The humor? Wonky. The tone? Wonky. The story? Wonky!!!! Don’t hate us! Thanks for listening. Hosts Betsy Kenney and Dara Katz bring in the big guns, tax attorney Scott Reing, to talk about the topic on everybody’s minds: taxes. Scott answers listener questions like “Does the $10K tax forgiveness on unemployment apply for 2020 or 2021?” and “If I lived out of state for the year do I need to file in that state?” and “What’s the difference between TurboTax and seeing an IRL tax preparer?” And yeah, Scott is also running for Putnam County Legislature District 7—what can’t this guy do? (Including your taxes!)Intro song “Why-Wait” by Ketsa (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)
Hosts Betsy Kenney and Dara Katz review their unofficial book of etiquette when it comes to hosting dinner parties and going to dinner parties. How many bottles of wine should you bring? Can you announce you’re keto at the table? Should you snoop through the bathroom cabinet? All of this answered on today’s Cool, Right? episode. Intro song “Why-Wait” by Ketsa (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)
Hosts Betsy Kenney & Dara Katz tackle one of life’s greatest mysteries: How did they do anything in the olden days? For Betsy, this question specifically applies to The Wizard of Oz, while Dara harkened back a bit further down the human timeline. Mysteries covered include: How did they cut their nails back in the day? How did they train Toto on the set of Wizard of Oz? How did they serial kill? How did they learn makeup tricks (specifically in the time around Wizard of Oz)? How did the make The Wizard of Oz god dammit?!?!?! Thanks for listening :)Intro song “Why-Wait” by Ketsa (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)
Hosts Betsy Kenney and Dara Katz dive into their top-of-mind pop culture grab bag, chatting everything from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Oprah interview to Soho grifter Anna Delvey’s release from prison to a cooking class from hell with Survivor’s Boston Rob and more! Note: This episode was recorded before the now wildly explosive interview aired. And wow. Just wow. Intro song “Why-Wait” by Ketsa (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)
Betsy and Dara recap Teen Mom OG’s season 9 episodes 2 -5, discussing, among many things: Catelynn’s Tupperware of pee, the color of of Catelynn’s pee, Tyler’s complicity in watching Catelynn dunk 4 million pregnancy tests into a giant bucket of pee, and the nonchalance in which Catelynn enters the kitchen with a barrel of orange piss. Oh, and Gary starts a farmer’s market, Bentley needs to get off the show, McKenzie doesn’t understand open-heart surgery and Cheyenne is—once again—normal! Thanks for listening.
