"My father, behold, the enemy's ships came here. My cities were burned, and they did evil things in my country. Does not my father know that all my troops and chariots are in the land of Hatti, and all my ships are in the land of Lukka? The country is abandoned to itself. May my father know it: the seven ships of the enemy that came here inflicted much damage upon us."Around the year 1185 BCE, Ammurapi, the last king of the ancient city Ugarit, urged the king of nearby Alashiya to send help. His city, which had stood for thousands of years, was one of the great commercial capitals of the eastern Mediterranean. But help would never arrive. Ugarit fell and was never rebuilt. And it was not alone.Up and down the coastline, from Greece to Anatolia to the Levant, an entire interconnected world of Bronze Age superpowers essentially stopped existing within the span of a few decades. Cities that had thrived for centuries were reduced to ash. Writing systems disappeared so completely that entire regions went functionally illiterate for centuries. And at the center of almost every ancient account of what happened, you find the same phrase showing up in Egyptian temple walls and Syrian palace archives alike, describing a coalition of raiders. People who made a “conspiracy in their islands” and came from the sea…Check out the podcast store at unresolved.dashery.comIf you would like to support this podcast, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved-a-true-crime-mystery-podcast--3266604/support.

A Mediocre Time with Tom and Dan — Episode Notes Episode: 888 - "Nuttin's Gon' Change, No One Does S***" (Friday free show) Hosts: Dan, Tom | Guest: comedian Ross McCoy Sponsors / Ad Reads My Eternal Vitality (Dr. Powers) — opening segment, interview with Andrea Dennis about her weight loss (down ~30 of a 40-lb goal), hormone replacement therapy, and microdosing GLP-1s since March; plans to stop in Sept/Oct. Jeff's Bagel Run — plugging the new limited-edition cucumber dill cream cheese; free bagel for downloading the app. Hollerbach's German Restaurant (Sanford) — pitched as a venue for fantasy football drafts ($30/person: beer, pretzels, charcuterie, dedicated draft TV); also books their "Night's Hall" for parties/events. Bearcat (promo code BDM420) — cannabis product ad. Segment Rundown Cold open / ad — Andrea Dennis interview on HRT and GLP-1 microdosing (see above). Show open — Ross McCoy intro'd as guest; bit about Ross shaving/mowing the lawn in the heat. Business/announcements — Studio "pinball meet and greet" event coming up (very limited tickets, announced last-minute); Andrew (the "pinball dude") adding more machines; Pizza Bruno sponsoring food, White Claw sponsoring drinks; framed as a fundraiser for a new app/website they're building. Tangent: lambskin condoms — Riff sparked by mishearing "chic" as a brand name; potted history of the "Sheik" condom brand (named after the 1921 Valentino film, marketed for disease prevention since birth-control marketing was illegal), plus a long bit about what lambskin condoms are actually made from. Voicemail: cousin Gary (from Texas) — Dale's older brother; called in after hearing Dale had called the show. Reminisced about Dan's late father and uncle Doug ("the funniest fuckers ever"), said Dan looks/sounds more like Uncle Doug than his own dad. Dan reflects on losing touch with Virginia family after his dad died, and on reconnecting now. Gary left a callback number and invited a visit/get-together. Health aside — Dan discusses recent heart workup: calcium score of zero, clean echo, no chamber enlargement — good news after some health scares that have him "rethinking a lot of relationships." News: Amelia Earhart — Discussion of the Nikumaroro Island "castaway theory" (a freckle-cream jar and heat-damaged glass found near an old campfire site); Purdue University's Legacy Institute sending an expedition to the island October 7, chasing a satellite anomaly thought to be her Lockheed Electra. Tangent: unsolved mysteries — MH370, giant rich-guy experimental planes that vanish, Alcatraz escapees (the "Escape from Alcatraz" pair), Billy the Kid death theories, ancient/pyramid conspiracy stuff, DB Cooper, and a long detour into Jeffrey Epstein death conspiracy theories — including the viral story about an Epstein-linked email tied to a Fortnite account ("Little St. Jeff1") that resurfaced in released files. Coal-mining oddities — Time-Life "Mysteries of the Unknown" book bit (frog found inside a lump of coal, petrified tree stump found underground); Centralia, PA mine fire mentioned as a real, "solved" phenomenon (not a mystery, just still burning). News: cemetery "niche" robberies — Three Central Florida suspects at large for breaking into cemetery niches (small mausoleum lockers holding cremains) and stealing ~$30,000 in jewelry/valuables. Long bit ranking this on a "scale of crimes" (near the bottom, close to victimless). Reddit story tangent — A woman discovered her late mother's belongings (rare rock-photography prints of Skynyrd, Tom Petty, etc.) being resold at Orlando's Thrift Con after her storage unit was auctioned off; she's trying to track down the buyer. Break plug — Ross McCoy's comedy show, "What Do You Want From Us" Moe Comedy Jam at the Funny Bone, October 17; tickets on sale "early next month." Caller: "Concrete Mike" — Grave-robbing story from his younger days selling magazines with a traveling group; friends back home (while he was on the road) robbed cemetery mausoleums for jewelry to fund LSD, made national news, several went to prison. Segues into a long string of acid-trip stories (Twister movie premiere, Walmart at 2:30am, etc.). Discussion: leaving Florida — Sparked by a BDM (fan community) thread; framed around Jordan Foley's farewell show that night at Will's Pub (moving to a small town near Nashville). Debate over whether people who don't actually use Florida's beaches/outdoors amenities should just move somewhere cheaper; examples cited include Dan's niece Daisy moving to Georgia, and general "normal American" suburban living not being tied to location once remote work is factored in. House-demolition story — Dan describes watching a neighboring house get fully demolished by an excavator crew in 58 minutes; tangent into the "McMansion" trend replacing old Florida houses on his street, and permit rules requiring a percentage of original walls to remain standing. Wrap-up / plugs — Teased "big" announcements (a possible at-sea event and a land-based event) to be revealed on Monday's BDM show (fan membership show, sign up at tomandan.com). Sign-off. Key Dates / Plugs Mentioned Tonight: Jordan Foley's farewell show, Will's Pub (~6:30–7:30pm), before his move near Nashville, TN. Tomorrow: Real Radio poker tournament (Dan playing). October 7: Purdue-led expedition departs for Nikumaroro Island (Amelia Earhart search). October 17: Ross McCoy's "What Do You Want From Us" comedy show at the Funny Bone (tickets on sale early Sept). Monday: BDM (fan club) show — event announcements plus continued "Mysteries of the Unknown" book bit. Upcoming ("next week" as of recording): Studio pinball meet-and-greet, sponsored by Pizza Bruno and White Claw. Notable Guests/Callers Andrea Dennis — on-couch interview guest (weight loss/HRT segment). Ross McCoy — in-studio guest, Orlando comedian. Gary (cousin from Texas, Dale's older brother) — voicemail. "Concrete Mike" — phone-in caller with the grave-robbing/acid story. ### Website: https://tomanddan.com/ App: https://tomanddan.com/app Become a BDM: https://tomanddan.com/registration Merch: https://tomanddan.myshopify.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@TomandDanLive Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/tomanddanlive Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AMediocreTime Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tomanddanlive/ X: https://x.com/TomAndDanLive TikTok: https://tiktok.com/@tomanddanlive Reddit: https://reddit.com/r/tomanddan ACT RSS: https://feeds.libsyn.com/61976/rss AMT RSS: https://feeds.libsyn.com/18904/rss

As the sun slowly rose over the Rio Grande on September 15, 1891, Catarino Erasmo Garza stood on the Texas side of the border holding in his hands two objects that would come to define his life: a Winchester rifle and a revolutionary proclamation. For years Garza had fought the dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz through his many newspapers and publications. Now he announced that he was laying down the pen and taking up arms. In the opening lines of his manifesto, he declared:"The last of the independent journalists today abandons the pen to seize the sword in defense of the people's rights."His proclamation denounced the destruction of the free press, political murder, fraudulent elections, and the concentration of land and power, while calling for constitutional government, free trade, and land reform in Mexico. Nearly twenty years before Francisco Madero launched the movement that became the Mexican Revolution, Garza had already identified the grievances that would eventually bring down the Díaz regime.Today, Garza remains largely absent from popular memory. His name never appears alongside revolutionary icons like Emiliano Zapata, Pancho Villa, or Francisco Madero, despite the fact that he articulated many of the democratic demands later associated with the Mexican Revolution. This is a shame, because Garza was more than a revolutionary soldier. He was an influential journalist, an international activist, and the likely publisher of El Chicano, a Spanish-language newspaper in San Antonio that may represent the earliest known printed use of the word Chicano as a positive political identity. Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catarino_Garzahttps://filmotropo.wordpress.com/2012/10/29/catarino-erasmo-garza-and-el-chicano/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garza_Revolutionhttps://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/entries/garza-warhttps://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/jul/17/mexico-catarino-erasmo-garza-disappearedhttps://www.tshaonline.org/texas-day-by-day/entry/391listener comments? Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes John Milor, author and researcher known for exploring the controversial intersection of Christian theology, UFO phenomena, extraterrestrial intelligence, and the ancient astronaut hypothesis. Milor examines biblical passages through an unconventional lens, asking whether some descriptions of mysterious beings, heavenly vehicles, and extraordinary encounters could be interpreted as evidence of contact with non-human intelligences. Drawing upon Scripture, ancient traditions, UFO reports, and his interpretation of biblical prophecy, John explores accounts involving angels, the Nephilim, Ezekiel's vision, the "sons of God," and other mysterious figures and events found throughout the Bible. He considers whether terminology understood in ancient times as spiritual or supernatural might be interpreted differently in the technological age. These interpretations remain speculative and are debated by biblical scholars, theologians, historians, and UFO researchers. During this fascinating conversation, Rob and John examine the possibility of ancient extraterrestrial contact, modern UFO and UAP encounters, biblical descriptions of unusual aerial phenomena, and whether Christianity and the existence of extraterrestrial life would necessarily be incompatible. They also explore questions surrounding angels and aliens, spiritual beings, other worlds, creation, prophecy, and humanity's place within a potentially inhabited universe. Are UFOs strictly a modern phenomenon, or could humanity have been witnessing something similar for thousands of years? Whether you're interested in the Bible, ancient astronauts, UFOs, UAPs, extraterrestrials, theology, or unexplained mysteries, this episode of The 'X' Zone Radio Show challenges listeners to reconsider familiar biblical accounts from an entirely different perspective.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.Please note that all CANCOM/XZBN radio and/or television shows are Copyright © REL-MAR McConnell Meda Company, Niagara, Ontario, Canada – www.rel-mar.com. Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Seika Groves for a fascinating exploration of Science and the Paranormal. For generations, people have reported experiences involving ghosts, psychic phenomena, telepathy, precognition, unexplained energies, and other events that appear to challenge conventional explanations. But can these experiences be investigated scientifically, and where should we draw the line between genuine mystery, personal belief, and phenomena that may eventually have a conventional explanation? Seika examines the intriguing territory where scientific inquiry and paranormal research intersect. From reports of extrasensory perception and unusual consciousness experiences to hauntings and unexplained encounters, the discussion considers how researchers can approach extraordinary claims using observation, experimentation, critical thinking, and an open but skeptical mind. Scientific investigation does not require automatically accepting or rejecting paranormal claims—it requires asking good questions and following the evidence wherever it leads. During this thought-provoking conversation, Rob and Seika explore parapsychology, consciousness, psychic phenomena, ghosts, ESP, telepathy, precognition, and unexplained experiences. They discuss the difficulties researchers face when attempting to reproduce paranormal phenomena under controlled conditions, the importance of separating anecdotal experiences from scientific evidence, and whether our present understanding of physics and consciousness leaves room for discoveries that could change how we perceive reality. Whether you're a believer, a skeptic, or someone fascinated by mysteries that remain unexplained, this episode of The 'X' Zone Radio Show offers an intriguing examination of the continuing debate between science and the paranormal. Join Rob McConnell and Seika Groves as they investigate whether science may someday provide answers to phenomena that currently exist at the boundaries of human understanding.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.Please note that all CANCOM/XZBN radio and/or television shows are Copyright © REL-MAR McConnell Meda Company, Niagara, Ontario, Canada – www.rel-mar.com. Send us Fan MailIn this episode of Brewstilled, we conclude this set of Barrel Aged Mysteries by discussing the Stasi. Known as the shield and sword of the party, the Stasi maintained East Germany's communist regime's power by tracking, spying on, and suppressing the civilian population through a massive network of secret informants and pervasive surveillance. When the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, Stasi agents panicked and attempted to destroy their massive surveillance archives to hide the identities of their informants. Because their industrial paper shredders broke down under the immense volume, officers hastily tore millions of files by hand, but the shreds were later recovered and to this day those devoted to uncovering the Stasi's secrets reassemble the documents to discover the secrets of the Stasi. The Stasi puzzle is the monumental, ongoing effort by Germany to reassemble hundreds of million fragments of destroyed surveillance documents. I'll discuss the Stasi here on Brewstilled with a Barrel Aged Imperial Stout as the beer pairing

On this episode of Expanded Perspectives: From the Archives, we revisit a fascinating conversation with author, researcher, and longtime explorer of the unexplained, David Weatherly.David is a true Renaissance man of the strange and supernatural. For decades, he has traveled the world investigating ghosts, cryptids, UFOs, ancient mysteries, magic, psychic phenomena, and the many things that seem to exist just beyond the boundaries of our understanding. From haunted castles and remote islands to ancient sacred sites and modern paranormal hotspots, David has dedicated much of his life to pursuing the unknown. His fascination with the unexplained began at an early age, fueled by ghost stories, strange creature encounters, and UFO reports. Influenced by legendary researchers and writers such as John Keel, Jacques Vallée, and Hans Holzer, David eventually began conducting his own investigations into the mysterious. But his approach to the paranormal extends far beyond traditional investigation. Throughout his travels, David has studied shamanic, mystical, and magical traditions from cultures around the world. He has spent time with Taoist masters in China, Tibetan Lamas, Native American and African tribal elders, and shamans from numerous traditions. He has also explored subjects ranging from alchemy and divination to Qigong, Ninjutsu, energy work, and ceremonial magic. That unusual background gives David a unique perspective on paranormal phenomena and the strange entities people have encountered throughout history.David is the founder of Eerie Lights Publishing and the author of numerous books, including Strange Intruders, Eerie Companions, the Monsters of America series, and the Haunted series. He has appeared on Coast to Coast AM, Ancient Aliens, Mysteries of the Outdoors, Beyond Belief, On the Trail of UFOs, and many other programs. So settle in as we head back into the archives for a conversation with one of the most well-traveled researchers of the strange and unusual, David Weatherly. All of this and more on this installment of Expanded Perspectives: From the Archives.Find out more about David Weatherly and his work at Eerie Lights Publishing.

Could hidden prophecies preserved for nearly 2,000 years reveal a deeper understanding of the Bible than most Christians have ever been taught? Tony Merkel sits down with author and researcher Josh Peck for a fascinating exploration of the Dead Sea Scrolls, uncovering why these ancient manuscripts may be more important today than ever before. Josh explains how the Essenes, the Book of Enoch, the Dead Sea Scroll calendar, and overlooked biblical prophecy connect in ways that challenge long-held assumptions while strengthening confidence in Scripture. As the conversation unfolds, they examine how forgotten history, remarkable prophetic patterns, and the preservation of these ancient texts could reshape how believers understand the end times and the foundations of the Christian faith. If you're fascinated by biblical prophecy, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Essenes, the Book of Enoch, and the hidden history behind the Bible, this is an episode you won't want to miss.If you're able, consider helping the Merkel family with medical expenses by donating to Lindsay's GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/b8f76890

Some mysteries have been solved by science. Others remain surprisingly stubborn. Despite all our advances in technology and research, there are still questions that continue to puzzle some of the brightest minds on Earth. Do we really have free will? Why does the placebo effect work? Have extraterrestrials ever tried to contact us? Those are just a few of the scientific mysteries you are about to explore. Why do these mysteries persist? Is it because we simply don't have enough evidence yet, or are some answers beyond our ability to discover? Joining me to examine some of the most intriguing unanswered questions in science is Michael Brooks. Michael is an award-winning science writer and author of the book 13 Things That Don't Make Sense: The Most Baffling Scientific Mysteries of Our Time (https://amzn.to/2NvuAmO). Listen as he explains what scientists know, what they suspect, and where the biggest gaps in our understanding still remain. If history has taught us anything, it's that today's impossible mystery can become tomorrow's accepted fact. Along the way, though, scientists must separate evidence from speculation, challenge long-held assumptions, and sometimes admit they simply don't know. This conversation explores the fascinating space between certainty and mystery—and why that's often where the most exciting discoveries begin. Learn more about your ad choices.
