A one-pot wonder shared with a chart-topping star. Marcus Mumford is an American-British singer, songwriter, musician and producer. He is best known as the lead singer of the award-winning English folk-rock band Mumford & Sons. Marcus took the train from his home in Devon to visit us for a chat about the band's latest album, Prizefighter, and their headline show at BST Hyde Park on 4 July. But before that, we take a closer look at some of Marcus's favourite meals, including beef Wellington which, we find out, is a dish Angela is only going to master in exceptional circumstances. We hear about how Marcus and his wife, actor Carey Mulligan, have a small but mighty crop of fruit and veg at their Devon home, and how they like to entertain... at lunchtimes. We also get the recipe for Marcus's cauliflower salad that routinely impressed Taylor Swift, the origin story of his Oscar tattoos, and how he and the band have moved away from warm beer, chocolate and crisps in their dressing room. Angela cooks Ravinder Bhogal's Awadhi chicken pulao, served with naans, poppadoms and mango chutney. The suggested wine pairing is a bottle of Jackson Estate Sauvignon Blanc, while Marcus enjoys a 0.0% Gin & tonic. You can watch full episodes of Dish on YouTube and on Spotify. The TLDR here is simple: 'BEEF' Is the Best Show on Netflix right now.But hop in anyway because Ebube's summoned AJ and Soonen for a union that's decidedly NOT fueled by road rage or deteriorating romance. The trio get into everything from who's actually in the right this season, to what the show has to say about the systems that feed the human conditionThey talk about how this season is as much about class warfare as individual conflicts (4:27), in line with what this season of the show is truly about (6:31); as well as the richness of the performances (9:49), Josh and Lindsay's delusion (19:49), how power changes people (23:35) and why it's important for young men to have solid role models (30:02).Art does mirror life after all.You can support us here. Also available on YouTube.Host: Ebube UbochiGuests: AJ & SoonenProduction by: Ebube Ubochi

The Ballad of Wallis Island is a 2025 British comedy-drama film directed by James Griffiths, produced by Rupert Majendie, and written by Tim Key and Tom Basden. It is based on their 2007 short film The One and Only Herb McGwyer Plays Wallis Island. Basden and Carey Mulligan star as a folk duo who reunite to perform for a wealthy fan (Tim Key) on a remote British island. Liked it? let us know! Hated it? No need to share! Editors - Laura Zempel, ACE and Lauren Connelly, ACE Although BEEF - Season 2 editors Laura Zempel and Lauren Connelly are working together for the first time, this is Laura's second season working on the series. But despite being new to one another, Laura's and Lauren's talents seamlessly combined to tackle a complex, character-driven "slow burn" with multiple storylines that required a delicate balancing of tone, including both dark comedy and psychological drama. Created by Korean director Lee Sung Jin (Sonny Lee) for Netflix, Season 2 of BEEF stars Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan as Joshua Martin and Lindsay Crane-Martin, and Cailee Spaeny and Charles Melton as Ashley and Austin, two couples; the poor latter two blackmailing the rich former two, using footage Ashley shot of a heated argument which would threaten their image. Similar to Season 1, this incident escalates into a prolonged feud and a game of cat-and-mouse...minus one dog. LAURA ZEMPEL In addition to her Emmy®-winning work on BEEF - Season 1, Laura's skills as an editor can be seen in another Netflix series, SIRENS (2025). She has also worked on EUPHORIA (2019-22), DISPATCHES FROM ELSEWHERE (2020) and ROOM 104 (2017-19). Prior to that, she assisted on HOUSE OF CARDS (2014), DEXTER (2011-13) and IF I CAN DREAM (2010). LAUREN CONNELLY, ACE Originally from Chantilly, Virginia, Lauren graduated from The University of Southern California with a B.A. in Cinema-Television Production. Past credits include television shows such as MO on Netflix, GASLIT on Starz, MASTERS OF SEX on Showtime, THE STRAIN on FX, and THE SON on AMC. Recent feature films include SITTING IN BARS WITH CAKE for Amazon Studios, A TOURIST'S GUIDE TO LOVE on Netflix, and Rodrigo Garcia's FOUR GOOD DAYS, which premiered at Sundance. Episode 314: Beef Season 2 This week, Matt and Bob dive deep into Season 2 of Beef — unpacking its brutal class commentary, surreal comedy, and emotionally devastating character arcs. From country club elitism and generational resentment to relationships poisoned by ambition, the hosts explore why this season feels like a spiritual cousin to The White Lotus while carving out its own chaotic identity. They discuss standout performances from Charles Melton, Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, and Kaylee Spaney, the season's themes of selfishness vs. selflessness, capitalism as emotional corrosion, and why the show's most haunting moments come from characters realizing they've become the very people they hate. Plus: menstruation orange juice, dead dachshunds, ChatGPT physical therapy, Tom Cruise fantasy scenarios, and a detour into HBO's bizarre murder mystery DTF St. Louis.
In episode 163, astrologers Kristina Martin and Tara Redfield dive into the birth charts of Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan and Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford. Starting with Marcus: his Aquarius Sun reveals a humanitarian, group-loving nature. A Mars sextile gives him decisive drive, but a Pluto square to his Sun shows a life and identity forged through crisis and intensity. Not all is heavy, though—his Moon and Jupiter in Pisces point to deep emotional wisdom and a powerful healing gift. For Carey: strong Gemini energy (Sun, Chiron, and Mars) shapes her path. Her rise to fame includes pivotal moments of writing letters to mentors, with Chiron's wound appearing in communication struggles. Her Virgo Moon can over-analyze feelings, yet gives her a close relationship with health and body. Venus in Aries? She fights for what she wants—like her focused life goal of acting. Together, their air-sign Suns create a free flow of intellectual, social energy. Their minds align, and positive Venus-Mars contacts suggest attraction, excitement, and complementary chemistry. But challenges appear: a Moon square Saturn brings judgment of emotions, while the other partner's Moon square Uranus creates inconsistency at home. Will these aspects lower their Venus score significantly? Listen in to find out.
In this episode, we do a season recap of the Netflix original series starring Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan, titled Beef. We discuss how this season compares to the first with a new cast and storyline, and we debate whether the series is strong enough to continue with a new cast each season.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week, Julia Turner and Dana Stevens are joined by Slate's own Rebecca Onion to discuss The Devil Wears Prada 2, BEEF season 2, and the NYT's best living songwriters package with Slate's music critic Carl Wilson. Twenty years on, we return to the world of The Devil Wears Prada. In the sequel, Andy, Anne Hathaway's character, must save Runway Magazine from the forces of capital, who are selling the Vogue-analogue for parts, as Meryl Streep's Miranda Priestly struggles to hang on to her own power. The movie has a lot to say about the state of journalism and media with plot lines seemingly ripped from the gossip pages, but does it all come together in the edit? We discuss. Then, the second season of A24's anthology series BEEF stars Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan as a volatile millennial couple who enter into a feud with a younger couple, played by Cailee Spaeny and Charles Melton. Set at a rich Californian golf resort and its environs, the show satirizes class and generational resentments as the characters scramble to claim the scraps of their betters at the expense of everyone else. The characters are mostly unlikeable, and the premise might be a little less original than the first season, but given BEEF's stacked cast and pedigree, does the show sizzle? Finally we're joined by Carl Wilson, Slate's music critic and author of the newsletter “Crritic!” to discuss the New York Times package: The 30 Greatest Living Songwriters. Carl submitted a ballot for the list, and the polished version isn't too far from his submission. He gets into his picks and discusses what the list is saying about the field of songwriting and the idea of a songwriter as it's been expanded to include non-traditional instrumentation and digital composition. But like all lists it has sparked debate about the inclusions (Carole King, Stevie Wonder) the exclusions (Randy Newman, Liz Phair, David Byrne) and whether Taylor Swift's inclusion was solely to get an interview. Together with Carl, we try and make sense of the list and talk about our favorites. As promised, here is Carl's full ballot (The asterisks indicate people who Carl voted for but who have since died):Willie NelsonSmokey Robinson Bobby Braddock *Brian WilsonBob DylanCarole KingRandy NewmanDolly PartonStevie Wonder*Sly StoneThe Flatlanders (Butch Hancock/Jimmie Dale Gilmore/*Joe Ely)Tom Waits & Kathleen BrennanNile RodgersDavid ByrneMark EitzelChuck D & the Bomb SquadJimmy Jam & Terry LewisStephin MerrittLiz PhairJohn Darnielle (The Mountain Goats)Missy Elliott & TimbalandThe Love Junkies (Hillary Lindsey/Lori McKenna/Liz Rose)Outkast (Big Boi/Andre 3000)Josh Osborne/Brandy Clark/Shane McAnallyPhoebe BridgersEndorsements: Julia: The SNL sketch featuring Teana Taylor, Grandpa At The Wedding.Rebecca: The new Lord Of The Flies adaptation on Netflix. Summer isn’t just for blockbuster movies. Whereas network television traditionally went into hibernation by late May, in the age of streaming, where content is king, fresh TV programming is needed 12 months a year. Right now, there is plenty to choose from. One of the big ones is the next offering from “Baby Reindeer” creator and star Richard Gadd, who returns with a new limited series titled “Half Man,” a drama starring Jamie Bell. Also returning to the small screen is Kate Hudson, who is back for the second season of “Running Point,” in which she runs the family’s pro basketball team. There is yet another “Yellowstone” spinoff with “Dutton Ranch.” Meanwhile, “For All Mankind” is slowly winding down with its fifth season on Apple TV+, but fans won’t have to wait long for something fresh as its spinoff, “Star City,” is due out May 29 on the same platform. On the topic of spinoffs, “The Testaments”—set years after the events of “The Handmaid’s Tale” and continuing its narrative—has been off to a strong start. Also returning is the second season of the now-anthology series “Beef” with Oscar Isaac and his “Inside Llewyn Davis” co-star Carey Mulligan. We discuss these shows and more on this week’s episode. About the show Streamed & Screened is a podcast about movies and TV hosted by Bruce Miller, a longtime entertainment reporter who is the retired editor of the Sioux City Journal in Iowa and Terry Lipshetz, a senior producer for Lee Enterprises based in Madison, Wisconsin. The show was named Best Podcast in the 2025 Iowa Better Newspaper Contest. Theme music Thunder City by Lunareh, used under license from Soundstripe. YouTube clearance: FV694ULMCJQDG0IY
This week, we're diving into Beef Season 2, and let's just say… the drama did NOT come to play
Still here and still SPOILER-FREE! This episode was recorded last Sunday. It should have been out by last Monday but you get what you get. It is what it is. Anyway... We had a somewhat busy past two weeks. We were in Davao very briefly so of course, we'll tell you about that. Then onto 18th Rose! Xyriel Manabat stars in this Filipino Netflix original romantic drama. So maganda ba? Pag-usapan natin! We then get into another Netflix chart topper, the shark movie Thrash. Napag-usapan rin ang Beef Season 2 with Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Cailee Spaeny, and Charles Melton. But do people even know that there's a Beef Season 2? Then in his never ending search for that romance high, Mike shares his initial thoughts on the Thai GL series Fulfill. We just didn't watch it. What we watched was another movie about another pop star, Anne Hathaway's Mother Mary! That and more in this episode!Follow us on Instagram, Threads, Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, and Letterboxd @pleasepausephWe'd really appreciate it if you tell someone about the podcast!

Tubi or not Tubi? The streaming platform has found an interesting niche of programs, often starring social media influencers. One of the latest programs to drop is "Hive," a horror film featuring "Dancing with the Stars" winner Xochitl Gomez and Aaron Dominguez. Co-host Bruce Miller catches up with the pair. Miller and co-host Terry Lipshetz then discuss the latest streaming programs: "Half Man" is a new HBO series from Richard Gadd, who found success with his breakout Netflix limited series "Baby Reindeer." Andie MacDowell is back with the fourth season of the Netflix series "The Way Home." And following the success of the Netflix limited series "Beef," the show has since become an anthology series with a new cast featuring Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan. They co-starred in the movie "Inside Llewyn Davis." The question is whether they can find the same chemistry. Finally, be prepared to hit pause and finish "The Pitt" if you haven't already. The final hour of season two has aired, and we have a spoiler-filled conversation about how things ended and what might be next for the cast. Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi return for season three of Sam Levinson's troubled teen drama "Euphoria". The series has been lauded by fans but slammed by critics for its hypersexual, fetishist content. TV critic Dheepthika Laurent also reviews the second season of Netflix's rage drama "Beef". It stars Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac as a country club couple who get into a blackmail feud with a young couple. Plus: Eric Rochant, the creator of the French series "The Bureau", is back with a family crime drama called "Bandi". It's Netflix's first ever series set on the French Caribbean island of Martinique. Finally, Michelle Pfeiffer and Elle Fanning navigate the tricky ethics of OnlyFans in "Margo's Got Money Troubles".
Luke is back with Matt and Dawn to review four new shows available on different platforms this week. First, HBO's teen drama Euphoria returns for its long-awaited third season. The series, which was once one of the most talked-about and provocative shows on television, now sees its characters outside of the high school setting. The third season still features a powerhouse performance from Zendaya as drug addict Rue, but it's the outer edges and the inclusion of other stars like Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney and their disjointed stories that work less well. Was the long wait really worth it? Next, one of the most beloved shows of the last ten years, Hacks, returns to Sky One for its fifth and final season. Jean Smart and Hannah Einbeinder are still fantastic together, and this season gets off to a strong start because it sees the pair on the same page and not at odds as they have been at the start of each previous season. It's a show full of confidence that knows what it wants to do, full of characters we care about, and we're not quite ready for its final bow. Also returning is Netflix's now-anthology series, Beef. The twisted comedy drama, which began as a series starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, as two people caught in a petty argument that takes over their lives. With the second season, the argument or 'beef' at the centre of the story comes when a young couple stumbles across a vicious domestic fight between their bosses. Helemed by strong performances from Calliee Spaney and Carey Mulligan, it's a show about power, and one that puts you in the same stressed place as its characters. The first season was focused solely on the two caught up in the 'beef', but season 2 has a lot going on outside of the battling couples. Lastly, the BBC has a brand new drama, Mint, which is a romantic gangster show aimed at a younger audience. On one hand, it's another example of the BBC trying something new in prime time, but on the other, we have a lot of thoughts about why it just doesn't work. For our quiz, Dawn challenges the boys to name as many Friends guest stars as they can.
The Netflix Beef returns for season two with an all new cast. This time the beef involves two couples: Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac face off against Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny. Just like in the first season, their feud reveals way bigger underlying issues for each of the parties involved. Everyone's a mess and it's a surreal journey to behold.Subscribe to Pop Culture Happy Hour Plus at plus.npr.org/happyhour See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for sponsorship and to manage your podcast sponsorship preferences.NPR Privacy Policy

April genau 40 Jahre her.

The film “The Ballad of Wallis Island” tells the story of Charles, an eccentric lottery winner who uses his money to hold a private concert on the remote Welsh island where he lives. The band he hires is his favourite group of all time: the fictional folk rock duo McGwyer Mortimer. The only problem is they haven't spoken in years — and the concert is just for Charles. British poet and comedian Tim Key stars as Charles and co-wrote the movie, which is based on a short film he made in 2007. Earlier this year, he joined Tom Power to talk about the project and why it took 18 years to turn his short into a feature. Plus, he reveals how he persuaded Hollywood A-lister Carey Mulligan to get on board.
