Finally, some fucking mid. Even late-period Sam Raimi (more the guy who made Oz the Great and Powerful than Evil Dead or Spider-Man 2) manages to pick the bar up from the depths of hell to make something we can at least trip and stumble on. We literally remember nothing about the first Doctor Strange, so this is a marked improvement even if it's marred by another bad screenplay from one of Dan Harmon's writers. And hey, Elizabeth Olsen is having fun for the first time in five movies? Was this movie worth its $500 million price tag? Probably not. Is it one of the better recent Marvel movies we've had to sit through? Despite everything, yes. Plus, we derail the episode for a live reaction to Zohran Mamdani winning the NYC democratic mayoral primary. Jigsaw’s most recent project took Green and her team to Bowling Green, Kentucky to figure out how they could use AI to improve a civic cornerstone: the town hall. Green sits down with Oz to talk about the project, What Could BG Be?, and what the role of Jigsaw is in today’s rapidly shifting, revenue-oriented tech landscape.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Her art is published along with the other writers' and illustrators' stories and art in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41 which will be officially released on April 22nd 2025. Haileigh Enriquez was born in 1996 and is a Los Angeles–born artist with a mix of Mexican/Yaqui Native American and Salvadorian roots. Growing up in Rosemead, California, a predominantly Asian/Hispanic community, deeply shaped her identity. She immersed herself in drawing and comic books from an early age and fostered a fascination for character design and storytelling. What started as an escape, turned into a passion. Originally on a path toward a career in the medical field, a personal loss led Haileigh to reevaluate her future and embrace her true passion: art. With the encouragement of her family and mentors, she shifted her focus and enrolled at Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD), where she refined her technique and explored her own personal style. Her work blends fantastical realism, bold colors, and dynamic lines, drawing heavily from her love for comic book art and Mesoamerican mythology. Driven by a desire to create characters that celebrate cultural diversity, Haileigh's work is a joyful exploration of identity, imagination, and resilience. As a traditional artist turned digital creator, she combines realism with imaginative storytelling, crafting unique characters that reflect her identity and the worlds she dreams of. HOLLYWOOD - Mullica Hill, New Jersey author Sandra Skalski is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest and was honored along with eleven other writers and eleven artists at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood, California on April 10th. Her story, "Slip Stone," is published along with the other writers' and illustrators' stories and art in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41 which was officially released on April 22nd 2025. Sandra Skalski's love of fantasy ignited when her kindergarten teacher read Ozma of Oz to the class. Growing up, she spent most of her allowance in the Bookmobile. During the summer, she walked nearly two miles to the nearest library to devour every fantasy and science fiction book she could find. She wrote her first SF story when she was thirteen. It wasn't very good, but she was determined to keep writing. Attending Viable Paradise workshop helped improve her craft. The first time she got the courage to hit submit, it was to the Writers of the Future Contest. Her stories have appeared in Factor Four Magazine, Wyld Flash, Ruth and Ann's Guide to Time Travel Anthology Vol. 2 and 100-Foot Crow. Sandra lives with her husband in suburban New Jersey. She recently retired from a career in chemical engineering, leaving her with actual time to write. When she's not writing, you can find her in the butterfly garden or traveling with her husband. Her greatest joy is spending time with her daughter, son-in-law, and her two beautiful grandchildren. The Contest, one of the most prestigious writing and illustrating competitions in the world, is currently in its 42nd year and is judged by some of the premier names in speculative fiction.

    A Word With You

It seems as if the movie comes around again about once a year on TV, and we get a chance to see that charming story called "The Wizard of Oz." What a quartet! I mean, Dorothy, the little Kansas farm girl blown into the Land of Oz. She wants to see the Wizard to get help to get home. Then remember, there's a Scarecrow, he wants to see the Wizard to get some brains. And the Tin Woodsman, well, he's looking for a heart. And last but not least, there's that lovable feline, the Cowardly Lion. Now I know some people who could use some brains, I know some people who could use a little more heart; but we're surrounded by people who could use more of what that Cowardly Lion was looking for. Remember, "I need courage." I'm Ron Hutchcraft, and I want to have A Word With You today about "Lifting People Up." Our word for today from the Word of God comes from Hebrews 10, and I'm going to begin reading at verse 24: "Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching." Okay, so we're supposed to be in the business of spurring people on to be what they need to be, to do what they need to do. In other words, people should be better off because they've been around you. That was the effect Jesus had on the people that He was around. How will that happen? Well, it happens when we do this: "Let us encourage one another." I was thinking the other day about what encourage means. Just reverse it - courage in. It means you're putting courage in people. It's like a gasoline fill-up except it's a motivation fill-up. When you encourage someone, you literally put courage in them. You give them courage to take a risk, to trust God, maybe just to get through a very tough day. You put courage in someone when you stop and you pray with them. I said with them, by the way, not just for them. An arm around them says, "Wait, let's stop and pray about your situation right now." I have seen people literally change before my eyes when I would just take a moment to pray with them. You encourage a person when you give them specific praise for something they did or more importantly for something they are. Sometimes the courage injection comes from a scripture verse you share with them, or a spontaneous note or an email you write, or a text, maybe just a minute spent honestly inquiring how they're really doing. I can't tell you how many times someone's word, or note, or prayer of encouragement has literally put courage in me on a day when courage was really needed. And the encourager could never have known how much I needed it. But they were literally the channel for God to say to me, "Ron, I love you. It's going to be okay. Take courage, man." Encouragement restores your perspective when it's been battered and beat up by the pressures of the day. The great thing about the ministry of putting courage in people is that anybody can do it. It doesn't require any great gifts. It doesn't require any musical ability, or speaking or leadership, or a seminary degree - just a heart. It takes a genuine interest and it looks for ways to give that person encouragement, to build them up. That Cowardly Lion finally got his courage largely from being with three other friends who carried him through the tough times. People around you don't need a wizard to give them courage. But they may very well need some courage to take the next step on the road of their life. They just need somebody like you. They need the courage-giving love of a Jesus follower...maybe you.

One of the true joys of doing this podcast is to not only learn about the most known parts of being a child of a celebrity but the more, unlikely one's as well. What do we mean? Well, of course we hear about The Beverly Hillbillies, The Wizard of Oz and Barnaby Jones. But how many other podcasts ask the tough questions, like, “What kind of car did Buddy drive?” Not many but we hear about it on this episode. We also learn about Kiki's musical career as a road dog for the likes of Tracy Chapman, Chicago and Al Jarreau as well as her latest endeavor, her tribute to her father, My Buddy, The Other Side of Oz, which we saw and loved after recording this podcast. Along the way we discuss Walt Disney, the Tin Man, Davy Crockett, Matt Houston and what a fantastic person, actor Lee Meriwether was. That being said, was I the only one who didn't realize that Buddy Ebsen was a dancer and a good one? Or that he and his sister/dance partner were discovered by newsman Walter Winchell during the Roosevelt administration? Whoa. So sit back, take a listen to Kiki Ebsen on this episode and learn more about Buddy Ebsen than you thought possible. Everyone has a story.

Our health and the health of our soil are deeply intertwined. But there's a path forward: regenerative farming not only restores soil health and increases nutrient density in food, it also revitalizes rural communities and offers economic resilience. By reconnecting with natural systems and rebuilding diversity in our soil, food, and microbiomes, we reclaim both ecological balance and human well-being. In this episode, I discuss, along with Allen Williams, Dr. Daphne Miller, and Ian Somerhalder the many facets of modern-day farming, including what we need to pay attention to and why we need to reclaim our soil. Allen Williams is a founding partner of Understanding Ag, LLC and the Soil Health Academy, and is a partner in Joyce Farms, Inc. He has consulted with more than 4,000 farmers and ranchers in the US and other countries, on operations ranging from a few acres to over 1 million acres. Allen and his partners pioneered many of the early regenerative agriculture principles and practices and now teach those to farmers globally. He is a “recovering academic,” having served 15 years on the faculty at Louisiana Tech University and Mississippi State University teaching genetics and physiology. Allen has been featured in the Carbon Nation film series, Soil Carbon Cowboys, on the Dr. Oz show, ABC Food Forecast News, and in Kiss The Ground, A Regenerative Secret, The Farmer's Footprint film series, and the Sacred Cow film series.  Dr. Daphne Miller is a practicing family physician, Clinical Professor at the University of California San Francisco, and Founder of the Health from the Soil Up Initiative. She is the author of two books: The Jungle Effect: Healthiest Diets from Around the World and Farmacology: Total Health from the Soil Up. A pioneer in the “Healthy Parks, Healthy People” initiative, Miller helped build linkages between our medical system and our park system and writes her patients “park prescriptions” to get outdoors. She also developed a soil learning lab for health professionals at Paicines Ranch in Hollister California. Ian Somerhalder is an American actor, philanthropist, and entrepreneur. Best known for his iconic roles on "Lost" and "The Vampire Diaries," he is co-founder of The Absorption Company (a revolutionary supplement company formulated for increased absorption) and co-owner of Brother's Bond Bourbon. His recent work includes executive producing the documentary "Common Ground" (2023), which highlights regenerative agriculture's innovative solutions to combat climate change. This week, the boys discuss the remarkable film year of 1953, the events that transpired around the world in that year, and Fritz Lang's “The Big Heat”. Perhaps an early trailblazer of the detective-with-a-personal-vendetta genre (is it a film noir???), this fascinating film led to a productive conversation! We drank a bit this week, too. What’s inside AI’s black box? This week in the News Roundup, Oz unpacks the uncomfortable truth that even the people building today’s AI models often can’t explain how they work — or why they behave the way they do. But that hasn’t stopped tech companies from pushing colleges and universities to embrace chatbots. On TechSupport, 404 Media’s Jason Koebler explains the strange world of airport body scans and the future of the TSA.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
