The countries within the EU and the U.K. have dealt with overwhelming censorship for decades now, is an all out assault on free speech coming to America? In the United Kingdom, 30 people are arrested every day for social media posts, retweets or even cartoons. Michael Shellenberger has been monitoring this dangerous trend and recently spoke to the EU Parliament. A very unpopular group of European leaders don't like when they see dissenting voices on the internet. Shellenberger describes a system in which the EU appoints so-called “trusted flaggers” – NGOs and academics who receive special access to the platforms' data in order to identify content that is to be removed. While President Trump has defunded a lot of the censorship taking place under Biden, this global censorship campaign has its sights set on America next. President Trump signed an executive order to move marijuana from Schedule 1 to Schedule 3, allowing medical research to be done for cannibodial medical purposes. Dr Oz is here today to discuss what this means for patients in pain or suffering from PTSD. As administrator of the Center for Medicaid and Medicare services, Dr Oz has already blocked fraudsters trying to scam Medicare. There are many sophisticated operations, including foreign governments that are attacking and defrauding Obamacare. As President Trump secured a victory in prescription drug pricing, Dr Oz is optimistic about getting real healthcare reform for American citizens. In this episode we answer emails from Jenna, Kevin, and Jack Rabbit. We challenge the myth of “never pay taxes” and show how to transition scattered holdings into a Golden Butterfly framework while keeping taxes manageable. We also examine Bitcoin's role, review sample portfolio performance, and share new listener-created bonus material on the site. And THEN we our go through our weekly portfolio reviews of the eight sample portfolios you can find at Portfolios | Risk Parity Radio.Additional Links:Father McKenna Center Donation Page: Donate - Father McKenna CenterJack Rabbit's Creation re Episode 208 (Advice for Beginning Investors): A Parable for Beginning Investors in the Land of Oz"Free Steak Dinner" Rant Episode: Episode 321: A Small Rant About Newman Selling Annuities At Local Steakhouses | Risk Parity RadioBreathless Unedited AI-Bot Summary:You can optimize a portfolio to the comma and still miss the point if the tax tail is wagging the rest of your life. We dive into a common blocker—fear of realizing gains—and replace it with a better plan: build the mix you actually need, then minimize taxes over years with smart account placement, specific-lot sales, and well-timed gain harvesting. From there we lay out a practical route to a Golden Butterfly structure—growth and value stocks, long Treasuries, gold, and short-term bonds—implemented primarily inside tax-deferred accounts to keep the brokerage account's changes light and intentional.Along the way, we tackle a hot question on Bitcoin. Our take is grounded, not tribal: no income, high volatility, and shifting correlation that often mirrors high-beta growth. If you must touch it, keep it tiny so it can't steer your long-term outcomes. More important, we reframe risk tolerance: being comfortable with swings isn't a destination. Decide whether your target is maximizing lifetime spending or terminal wealth, then right-size volatility and liquidity to fit that goal. Finance comes first; the personal is how you stick to it.We round out the conversation with a market scoreboard—gold's surge, equities' strength, managed futures' late-year pop—and a transparent look at model portfolios, from classic all-weather to a measured, levered stack that's built for accumulators who accept higher swings. We also share a listener-made “graphic novel” twist on a past episode now posted as bonus material. If you're ready to shed tax paralysis, align your assets with your life, and use diversification that actually works across regimes, this one's for you. If you enjoyed it, subscribe, leave a review, and tell us: what's the next move you'll make to simplify and realign your portfolio?Support the show

To close out 2025, I'd like to revisit a critical aspect that's being ignored – the economy itself. Ken Webster is a leading thinker in the circular economy field, and one of his many roles is with Earth4All, where he has been exploring the benefits of a Universal Basic Dividend. Ken and Catherine discussed this, and more aspects of circularity at an economic level back in 2023, and it's highly relevant today, as the challenges we face loom larger. Catherine says: Ken Webster is one of my circular economy heroes, and is widely acknowledged as one of the foremost thinkers in the field. From 2010 – 2018, Ken was Head of Innovation for the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, shaping current concepts of a ‘circular economy'.. Ken also co-wrote the book that first opened my eyes to the circular economy back in 2011 – Sense and Sustainability, co-written with Craig Johnson. One of Ken's best-known books, The Circular Economy: A Wealth of Flows, relates the connections between systems thinking, economic and business opportunity and the transition to a circular economy. I'm very keen to read one of Ken's most recent books, co-written with Alex Duff. Ken and Alex use a storytelling approach based on the The Wonderful Wizard of Oz to offer a new and compelling narrative about the future direction of our economy, calling for macro-economic system redesign. It's called The Wonderful Circles of Oz: A Circular Economy Story – you'll find links in the shownotes. Ken's written several more thought-provoking works on the circular economy, including ABC+D: Creating a Regenerative Circular Economy for All – also co-written with Craig Johnson, and we mention some of these as we go along. This was a wide-ranging conversation about system-scale issues and concepts. I tried my best to keep up with Ken's thinking as we explored some of the big ideas he has been working on, including: A Universal Basic Dividend – not to be confused with UBI, or Universal Basic Income. We discuss why a Universal Basic Dividend would be a good thing, how it would be funded and where the money would flow to. We move onto The Commons – what that really means, and how it could be better accommodated in our modern economies, in a meaningful and sustainable way. Ken talks about the rentier economy, and rentiers. If you're not familiar with that term, it's someone who earns income from capital without working – for example by owning property or land that is rented out to tenants; by owning shares or bonds that pay dividends or interest, and so on. We discuss why the economy isn't working for the vast majority of people around the world, and what's getting in the way of an ‘economy for all'. We talk about some of the signals for change, with people are starting to see the potential of a future with community, connection and caring – caring for each other, and for our Mother Earth. The potential of a future that's not all about ‘Work, Buy, Consume, Die'. I've split our conversation into two parts – the 2nd part is available here: 119 Bonus Ken Webster: the circular ECONOMY! Part 2 International speaker, author and strategic advisor, Catherine Weetman helps people discover why circular, regenerative and fair solutions are better for people, planet – and prosperity. Mike has been fascinated with The Wizard of Oz his entire life because of the traumatic experience the cast and crew suffered in the making of the 1939 movie. He shares the things you might not know about the classic film from people being burned, poisoned, forced to smoke cigarettes, slapped in the face and more terrible things. And how the movie was actually a failure when it debuted in theaters but was saved almost 20 years later and became the classic we know it to be today. In the Movie Review, Mike talks about Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 starring Josh Hutcherson. It picks up one year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Former security guard Mike has kept the truth from his 11-year-old sister, Abby, concerning the fate of her animatronic friends. Mike crashes out over how bad he thought it was, why it was his worst theater experience of the year and the one redeeming quality of the franchise. In the Trailer Park, Mike blind reacts to Supergirl starring Milly Alcock and coming out on June 26, 2026. It’s about Superman’s 23-year old cousin who has a drinking problem and will serve as the 2nd film in the DC Universe. When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice. Mike talks about what he thinks about the suit, her heat vision and what might be the fate of her dog, Krypto. New Episodes Every Monday! Broadcast from KSQD, Santa Cruz on 12-18-2025: Dr. Dawn opens by examining how market competition is actually working in the weight loss drug sector. Novo Nordisk's Ozempic and Wegovy compete against Eli Lilly's Monjaro and ZepBound, with prices dropping nearly 50% as companies launch direct-to-consumer websites. The main barriers remain needles and refrigeration, driving development of oral versions. Novo's Wegovy pill awaits FDA approval for early 2026 launch at $150 monthly. Next-generation drugs show remarkable results: Eli's retatrutide causes 24% weight loss in 48 weeks, while Novo's Cagrisema combines semaglutide with amylin to reduce muscle loss. Pfizer paid $10 billion for Metsera's once-monthly drug despite significant side effects. A quick fiber tip suggests adding plain psyllium to morning coffee for cardiovascular and microbiome benefits. Start with half a teaspoon and work up to two teaspoons (10 grams) over several weeks to avoid gas. The prebiotic fiber improves glucose tolerance and may reduce cancer risk. UC San Diego scientists discovered why cancers mutate so rapidly despite being eukaryotic cells with protected chromosomes. The answer is chromothripsis, a catastrophic event where the enzyme N4BP2 literally explodes chromosomes into fragments. These reassemble incorrectly, generating dozens to hundreds of mutations simultaneously and creating circular DNA fragments carrying cancer-promoting genes. One in four cancers show evidence of this mechanism, with all osteosarcomas and many brain cancers displaying it. This explains why the most aggressive cancers resist treatment. Research from 2013 shows any glucocorticoid use significantly increases venous thromboembolism risk, with threefold increases during the first month of use. The risk applies to new and recurrent clots, affecting both oral and inhaled steroids, though IV poses highest risk and topical the lowest. Joint injections fall somewhere between inhaled and oral. Anyone with prior blood clots should avoid steroids except for life-threatening situations like severe asthma attacks requiring ventilation. A meta-analysis of 20 randomized controlled trials shows creatine supplementation helps older adults (48-84) maintain muscle mass when combined with weight training two to three times weekly. The supplement provides no benefit without exercise. Recommended dosing starts at 2 grams and works up to 5 grams daily. Vegans benefit most since they consume little meat or fish. Important caveat: creatine throws off standard kidney function tests (creatinine), so users should request cystatin C testing instead for accurate renal health assessment. A new JAMA study suggesting risk-based mammogram screening is fatally flawed. First, researchers offered chemopreventative drugs like tamoxifen only to the high-risk group, contaminating the study design. Second, the demographics skewed heavily toward white college-educated women, missing the reality that Black women face twice the risk of aggressive breast cancer with 40% higher mortality. Third, wild-type humans failed to follow instructions—low-risk women continued getting annual mammograms anyway while high-risk women skipped recommended extra screenings. The conclusion of "non-inferior" outcomes is meaningless given poor adherence. Stick with annual mammograms, and consider alternating with MRIs for high-risk women. The EAT-Lancet report condemns red meat based purely on observational data showing correlations with heart disease, cancer, and mortality. But people who eat lots of red meat differ dramatically from low consumers: they weigh more, smoke more, exercise less, and eat less fiber. Studies can't control for sleep quality, depression, or screen time. Notably, heavy meat eaters also die more in accidents, suggesting a risk-taking lifestyle phenotype. The inflammatory marker TMAO is higher in meat eaters, but starch is also pro-inflammatory. Eating red meat instead of instant ramen might improve health. A balanced diet with limited amounts beats epidemiology-based blanket statements. Dr. Dawn grades Dr. Oz's performance as CMS administrator. Starting at minus one for zero relevant experience, he earns plus two for promoting diet, exercise, and gut health on his show. He studied intensively after nomination, calling all four previous CMS directors repeatedly and surrounding himself with experienced staff (plus one). He finalized Medicare rules favoring prevention over surgery and earned bipartisan praise as "a real scientist, not radical" (plus one). He divested healthcare holdings but kept some blind trust interests (minus 0.5). He's developing a CMS app and partnering with Google on a digital health ecosystem (plus one), but supports ending ACA subsidies that will raise premiums for millions (minus one). He correctly promoted COVID vaccines and contradicted Trump's Tylenol-autism claims (plus one). Final score: 3.5 out of 5 possible points, the only positive score for any Trump health administrator.

Send us a textToday's episode is my conversation about the 1930 film King of Jazz. I'm joined by Matthew Brady from the Warren Peace newsletter and we talk about the use of color in this film that sets it apart for many other films of the time, the relative success of various comedy bits throughout the film, and how many of the sequences throughout are reminiscent of the vaudeville days. Wicked: For Good continues the story from the first Wicked film, set several years after Elphaba defies the Wizard of Oz. Now labeled the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba lives in hiding while fighting to expose the Wizard's corruption and free Oz's oppressed inhabitants — especially the Animals. Meanwhile, Glinda has become a celebrated figure in Emerald City and is preparing for a high-profile future under the Wizard's rule. When tensions rise between them and the fate of Oz hangs in the balance, Elphaba and Glinda must confront their fractured friendship and choose how to shape the world for good. The Trump administration is taking new steps to end surgeries and puberty blockers for transgender children across the nation, regardless of specific state laws. Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Dr. Oz, says doctors who allow for gender-affirming surgeries on minors are taking a fast-track approach. He says those doctors ignore the true causes of gender dysphoria. For the other side -- and to provide additional insights into all sides of this sensitive topic -- Dr. Richard Ferguson, President-Black Physicians of Utah joins Maria Shilaos. He says the ban would sharply reduce access to healthcare for people who need lifesaving treatment.

Today's Headlines: This weekend saw two devastating mass shootings just hours apart. At Brown University in Rhode Island, a 24-year-old gunman killed two students and wounded nine others inside an academic building, prompting a five-hour campus lockdown before he was arrested at a hotel south of Providence. Several of the victims had previously survived other school shootings. In Australia, a father and son opened fire on a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, killing 15 people and injuring 40. One victim, a Holocaust survivor, died while shielding his wife. Authorities called it a terrorist attack and recovered explosives nearby. In other news, two U.S. troops and a civilian interpreter were killed in Syria after an attacker—who had recently joined local security forces—opened fire. The incident is being treated as a major security failure, and Trump vowed retaliation against ISIS. Meanwhile, Chile elected its most right-wing president in decades, José Antonio Kast, while Ukraine peace talks continue. President Zelensky signaled he may forgo NATO membership in exchange for U.S. security guarantees, even as the U.S. reportedly plans to scale back European defense commitments and Republicans float leaving NATO altogether. Back in the US, House Democrats released dozens of photos from Jeffrey Epstein's estate showing him with powerful figures across politics and business, with tens of thousands more images still under review. The New York Times also reported that Andrew Tate cultivated ties to Trump-world figures to help escape prosecution abroad—after which new assault allegations quickly followed. And finally, Dr. Oz has been emailing federal health workers unsolicited advice on resisting office snacks, reminding everyone that in 2025, nothing—not even cookies—is safe from wellness content.
