Today’s going to be just a brain dump of ideas so let’s go: An HR tool that anonymizes hiring. Implicit bias is too real, cmon my HR peeps let’s do better. For my runners, triathletes, cyclists, whathaveyous out there - there need to be solar powered earbuds out there that don’t lose juice when you’re in the midst of your century or marathon. Even better if they can play nice with your phone’s bluetooth and battery so as to save that vital resource as well when you’re in the middle of whatever your outdoor-intense thing is. Finally, and this harkens back to a few of my earlier episodes about how much I hate what Apple has become… I want a computer that shows wear much in the same way a well-loved and well-used guitar would - like a Taylor or a fender. It shows use and care. I’m tired of shiny new!

We survived the first attempted coup, we’ll see what happens from here on out.. but life is too short, and I'm tired of playing by the rules of the old guard. I’m also head of growth for a Venture Studio in the Bay Area. I care about the creative impulse so much, that I’ve made it my business - literally. 30% of Americans believe in Astrology, that number increases as you widen the global aperture. And yet, there are seemingly no services out there - save a few apps (shout out to CoStar and Sanctuary) which provide digital, imperfect and sometimes downright misleading horoscope-based astrological insight - that help practitioners do their job in a meaningful and mundane (pun intended) way! I’m envisioning a world wherein Astrologers and Astrology is not relegated to some woo woo whatsits. But instead reclaims its place in the center of peoples’ daily lives in a meaningful way. One of my favorites, Jessica Lanyadoo, has a lovely word of caution to all would-be practitioners and fans out there that I would love to bring in here, which is that - Astrology is a powerful tool. If it causes more harm or agita than helpful grounding - don’t use it! Okay, into the idea...

This massive exodus of coastal babies in tech, and other white collar gigs headed inland towards the ‘burbs - has me feeling like now is the time to make my pipe dream of opening a sustainbly-powered/run wave pool (pun very much intended) a reality. Surfing is the #1 aspirational sport in the world, bound to grow in popularity and total available market given its Olympic-sport status (looking at you Paris 2024). Rick Kane, where you at?

This was recorded in the middle of the night (9pm pacific) after realizing that in order to get out of the pickle that is Catalina, I need to cough up 12 more gigs of precious MacBook Air memory?! I'm just gonna say it: Apple, I love you but you're bringing me down. We deserve better! Planned obsolesce; no meaningful innovation since the passing of Steve Jobs (RIP, complicated genius); WAY too many wires all the time that fray quarter-annually; GIANT back2back upgrades; continuous and aggressive overproduction of clunky widgets/apps; confusing and non-meaningful bells and whistles. Had I my own Wozniak - this would be my yellow brick road. Taking on the (2nd) most solvent company in the world. NBD.

Before we get into the idea I would like to say/remind/encourage folks to remember - that the creative process is like a faucet, and not a stream. Sometimes that handle is full flush for your fun bubble bath, sometimes it’s a trickle where you need to grab you a wrench to fix some structural thesis, sometimes it’s just straight up off. Hanging out, cooling down, waiting to fill up another cup. I want to encourage you to give yourself room for your process! That’s hard for me to remember sometimes as well so, note to self: creativity is a gift not a demand. So - here’s the cup I want to fill up today: a stationary skateboard rig! Shout out to Hamboards, to the creators of the HBO show Betty for inspiring a whole new generation of skaters and wannabes like me.

I want a non-profit aggregator! That’s both beautiful and functional, and helps me be the most conscious giver/philanthropist that I possibly can be at any level of financial health and wellness. I would love for this product to help people live their best philanthropic lives... To help folks determine how to best invest in the present and future of the world in ways that light them up. What do your dollars actually do? This app can show you. Do you go deep or go wide? This app helps you determine your pledge cadence and amount. You care about everything!! This app would help reduce paradox of choice/analysis paralysis (which I think I actually reversed in the episode heh...). This app would help ensure that you give your money effectively, so that there is a healthy world for us all to live on. And where everybody on that world knows - that Black Lives Matter.

This idea came from a rather personal moment this week, as I was looking through some old photos - I saw this cardigan sweater that I loved. At one point it started to fray and my auntie actually was kind enough to knit it back together for me. I really f'n loved that cardigan, and it had deep sentimental value…

You ever just really want to talk to a psychic, but you only know of about three, like in the whole world? And they’re either 1) all the way across the country/globe/state or 2) way outside of your budget or 3) both of those things, and more? My idea today would help solve that issue. How cool would it be for Millennials and Gen Z’s who intuitively understand on a generational level that there is more going on here than meets the eye to connect with broad-strokes healers in their community when they need an XYZ performed?! The Juju & Woo (FPO) would list healers by type (astrologer, reiki master, animal communicator, psychic, medium, death doula, etc etc), and by location (set to YOUR radius specifications) - near you! Two-sided market here, so lots to consider - but I really think this needs to happen. A *gold mine* - and I mean inner gold here. But okay, also them bills too. For THE WORK. You know?

TL;DR on today's episode I’m going to address a listener question around: why would I share my ideas, and aren’t I afraid someone might steal them? The second, and certainly more complicated IDEA of the day is around: how to motivate white people in America to educate themselves on their own racism.

We owe the folks who are looking after our mental wellbeing, who are holding space for our deep psyche work, who have worked so hard to be witnesses... We owe them a better training experience at the onset of their careers. BBS - this one is for you. And to any production/tech folks out there who see the market potential in this idea - ☎️

Y'all know what I'm talking about... It's 1pm, your bellybutton is kissing your spine - and you do not know what to eat for lunch for the 15 minutes you have between calls with which to do so! I know #firstworldproblems to the MAX. But this app would help solve that problem (the question of lunch, not first world problems as such - just to clarify [although, wow new idea percolating!!]).

You know that feel that strikes you in your gut when you're happily driving along, and all of the sudden someone cuts you off within an inch of your (and their own!) life? What if you could communicate with that person other than flippin' them the howdy do, whilst they give you that s-eating grin in their rear view mirror, and watch you as you silently (to them) cuss them out? Wouldn't that be nice? Kinks clearly need to be worked out, but hey, this is an idea show not an execution program.

Today's idea spark: Like all y’all - I’m watching a lot of streaming content. And like all y’all the sequel! Sometimes I just want the internet to tell me what to watch. Other fun things: Arthur, the quest for the Holy Grail, Morgan le Fay, Merlin, and the creativity of retelling.

This is going to be probably my longest podcast, most of which will be me just talking into the void about a neat idea I had. For this maiden voyage, over the ears of cyberspace, I’d like to say that in the midst of this pandemic - my guiding light has been that spark of creativity and the joy of creation. So why this podcast? According to the ideas laid forth in Human Design (woo alert!!), I’m what’s known as a projector, which, TL;DR - I love the process of idea generation. Out of the muck and mire that are these trying times, I begin this audio journey with the simple idea that every day (or whatever), I’ll post a new idea. I do not know what it will become, only what it is today. And with that - my first concept: To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, I wanted to think about a neat way to work on the waste issue...
