Google is keeping the Chromebook and adding a pricier Googlebook line running Aluminium OS, built on Android 17 with Gemini baked in at system level. Steven Scott and Shaun Preece work out what that means for screen reader users, and Marc Aflalo finds out how Schlage's ultra wideband locks open the door before you reach for a key.The Chromebook is not going away. Google is holding that brand at the affordable end, aimed squarely at schools, while the new Googlebooks start around $999 and chase the same buyer who might otherwise pick up a MacBook Air. The bigger change is underneath. Aluminium OS is Android at heart, so Android apps run properly rather than through emulation, and handoff between phone and laptop becomes part of the design.That raises a question nobody has answered yet. ChromeVox is the screen reader for Chrome OS, but if the Googlebook is Android underneath, does TalkBack take over? With launch days away, Steven and Shaun note how little has been said about accessibility, and they wonder whether ChromeVox will ever support add-ons or scripting the way desktop screen readers do. Existing Chromebooks still get updates for up to ten years, and some hardware may be eligible to move across, though Google has not said which.Marc Aflalo speaks with Tim from Schlage, the lock maker that has been around more than a century and spun out of Ingersoll Rand into Allegion in 2013. The conversation covers the jump from mechanical keys to Encode, Arrive and the new Sense Pro, which uses Schlage Converge technology and ultra wideband to read the angle and speed of your approach, then unlocks at the right moment when your arms are full.Sense Pro ships with no keypad and no keyway, so the backup is a USB-C jump start port at the base of the lock that takes power from a phone or battery pack. There is also useful ground on scheduled access codes, firmware updates that add features to locks already installed, Matter support across Apple, Google, Alexa and Samsung homes, and the newer Aliro standard. Depuis l'arrivée de la puce M1 en 2020, Apple avançait avec un calendrier presque parfaitement régulier. Mais cette mécanique semble désormais s'emballer. Selon Mark Gurman, de Bloomberg, la firme aurait déjà terminé la conception de sa puce M7, seulement six mois après celle de la M6, alors même que les premiers produits équipés de cette dernière ne sont pas attendus avant la fin de 2026.La feuille de route reste officieuse, Apple n'ayant rien confirmé. Les premiers Mac dotés d'une puce M6 arriveraient donc à la fin de cette année, avant une génération M7 dès le début de 2027. Les versions M7 Pro et M7 Max suivraient à la fin de 2027, puis le M7 Ultra en 2028. La génération M6 pourrait ainsi connaître une carrière particulièrement courte. Apple aurait même abandonné les versions M6 Pro et Max afin d'accélérer le passage à la génération suivante. Pour Mark Gurman, cette cadence montre surtout que l'intelligence artificielle ne constitue plus une simple fonction ajoutée aux processeurs Apple : elle influence désormais directement leur architecture et leur calendrier de développement.Le chiffre le plus spectaculaire concerne la mémoire. Le futur M7 Ultra serait conçu pour gérer jusqu'à 1,5 téraoctet de mémoire unifiée. Dans les Mac Apple Silicon, cette mémoire est partagée entre le processeur central et la puce graphique, ce qui facilite le traitement de charges lourdes. Make a Logo on Fiverr Desktop chargers are most useful when they eliminate clutter without creating another problem. The AOHi 280W GaN Plus Charger takes that idea a step further by combining six charging ports, a color status display and app-based controls in one substantial desktop unit. With four USB-C ports and two USB-A ports, this 280W GaN charger is designed to power a laptop, tablet, phone, camera and other accessories from one outlet. It is not a small travel adapter, but it could be a practical replacement for the collection of charging bricks normally spread across a desk. AOHi supplied the charger and sponsored the accompanying video. All opinions are those of Geekazine. Six Ports With Up to 280 Watts of Shared Power The AOHi charger delivers up to 280 watts across its six ports. The four USB-C connections handle modern devices such as MacBooks, Windows laptops, tablets and smartphones, while the two USB-A ports support older cables and accessories. The first USB-C port supports PD 3.2 charging and can be prioritized for devices that need more power. As with any multiport USB charger, the full 280 watts is shared rather than delivered to every port simultaneously. The amount of power each device receives depends on its charging requirements, the cable being used and what else is connected. That makes the AOHi a better fit for a workstation than a single-device fast charger. One outlet can handle a laptop, an iPad, a phone and several production accessories without requiring separate wall adapters. A Display That Shows What the Charger Is Doing The front display is one of the AOHi’s most useful features. It shows total charging output, individual port activity and the charger’s internal temperature. A button on the side cycles through the available information. The screen is not touch-sensitive, but it gives you a quick view of the charging load without requiring a separate USB power meter. When several devices are connected, you can see which ports are drawing the most power and when a device begins reducing its draw as its battery fills. The charger can also display the time after it is connected to Wi-Fi. From a short distance, the AOHi looks more like a small desktop clock than a typical USB charger. Wi-Fi and App Controls Add More Flexibility AOHi’s companion app connects to the charger through a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and is available for Android and iOS. The app provides a clearer view of individual port usage and lets you remotely turn ports on or off. Three charging modes are available. Smart mode automatically manages the available power, Turbo mode favors faster charging, and Custom mode gives you more control over how power is allocated. You can also rename the charger, check its temperature, review usage information and install firmware updates. Remote port control may sound unnecessary until several devices are plugged in. If a tablet no longer needs to charge, for example, you can shut off that port without tracing cables across the desk. It also gives you a way to stop charging selected devices while leaving everything connected. The 2.4GHz-only Wi-Fi support is a limitation to keep in mind. Most modern routers still support that band, but some users may need to enable it or place the charger on a separate IoT or guest network. Real-World Charging With Six Devices For testing, the AOHi was connected to a MacBook Air, an iPad, a Samsung Galaxy Tab S9, an Asus phone, an OBSBOT Tail 2 camera and a DJI Pocket camera. All six ports were active at the same time. The combined power draw generally moved between 100 and 130 watts, well below the charger’s 280-watt ceiling. The MacBook Air drew roughly 60 to 65 watts during parts of the test, while the iPad reached around 28 to 30 watts. The other devices drew smaller amounts based on their own charging limits. Those results also show why most people may not regularly reach the charger’s full capacity. Phones, tablets and cameras often reduce their draw as their batteries fill. The extra headroom is still valuable when charging multiple laptops or other higher-power USB-C devices at once. After approximately 30 minutes under load, the charger’s display reported a temperature of about 49 degrees Celsius. The enclosure felt warm, as expected during fast charging, but the built-in temperature reading made it easy to monitor. Running Smart mode instead of Turbo mode may reduce heat at the cost of slower charging. Built for a Permanent Spot on the Desk This is a dense charger with enough weight to stay in place when cables are connected or removed. Rubber feet help prevent it from sliding, and the low-profile design keeps the ports accessible without placing another bulky adapter directly on the wall. The weight makes it less appealing for everyday travel, although it could still replace several chargers in a larger gear bag. Its strongest use case is on a desk, in a studio or in a shared workspace where several people need USB-C fast charging from a single outlet. AOHi also supplied a separate one-meter USB-C-to-USB-C cable rated for high-power charging and data speeds up to 80Gbps. That type of cable matters when using the charger’s higher-output capabilities, since an underpowered cable can limit charging performance. The Bottom Line The AOHi 280W GaN Plus Charger combines the capacity of a high-output USB charger with monitoring and control features that are genuinely useful. Its six ports, live power display and app-based controls make it easier to manage a desk full of devices while reducing the number of charging bricks plugged into the wall. It is probably more charger than someone with only a phone and tablet needs. For creators, power users and shared workspaces, however, the 280-watt capacity provides room for several laptops and accessories while keeping charging organized in one place. The app’s dependence on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and the heat generated in Turbo mode are worth noting, but neither takes away from the charger’s main advantage: fast charging for several devices through one compact desktop hub. And we finally have an answer to the age old question, is it safe to use a laptop on your lap?        Will Privacy workers ruin Smart Glasses for people with disabilities?   Boston Logan Airport is launching a pilot  program of people getting to the airport 25 miles away and going through TSA there, what could go wrong with this?   We then discuss #GAAD and what has it accomplished over the past 15 years. Ed discusses the #GAAD event he participated in with Meta Labs.   In recognition of #GAAD Apple unveiled the new accessibility features coming in the next operating system.   We then touch on all the sink holes popping up in New York City.   We then dive in to Google Io, and start out discussing Vibe Coding apps and will this lead to further inaccessibility.   Google has multiple pairs of Glasses coming later this year, the first pair we discuss is the Project Aura Glasses which are more VR glasses.   Google will also be releasing an Audio only Gemini Glasses, but do not call them Glasses, they are Intelligent Eyewear.   Get ready to do everything in Google in the search box.   Google Gemini Agents will become more personalized.   At the end of the day all of these A.I. features and the usability of it all will come down to two things, the accessibility of it all, and more importantly, will you actually trust using it.   We then dive in to some new products we have gotten recently. Brian kicks it off discussing the DOT digital Business Card which you can buy on amazon. Brian then mentions he bought the Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro Buds that just were released on May 21st, however, as they did not arrive until after we recorded, and the app and touch screen have several accessibility issues. The app and touch screen are pretty much unusable by someone who is blind. We will discuss this further on our next show. David then discusses the Pocket A.I. Recorder he just ordered. And while it is not a typical Allison return, she is gifting her current Mac Book Air and replacing it with the latest Mac Book Pro.
