​Kevin Coval is the Founder of Louder Than A Bomb: The Chicago Youth Poetry Festival and the Artistic Director of Young Chicago Authors. He's also the author and editor of several books including The BreakBeat Poets. His latest book of poetry, A People's History of Chicago, explores the city's various neighborhoods and will be released in April 2017 by Haymarket Press. Arthur sat down with Kevin at his home on Chicago's northwest side to talk about the new book and, well, hip hop. Special Guest: Kevin Coval.

In a revealing talk with Arthur, Grammy Award-winner Nicholas Payton shares the creative process (and challenges) behind making his latest album "Textures", which he created entirely in software using electronic instruments. Nicholas also discusses his views on the stagnation of hip-hop, the reception he gets from European "jazz" audiences, and he gives a personal tribute to his father, legendary bassist and sousaphonist, Walter Payton. Los Angeles DJ, recording artist, and serial Instagramer Anthony Valadez joins Arthur to discuss his love for community outreach through music, and his thoughts on the role of the disc jockey on modern terrestrial radio.
