Hello my loyal listening populous, welcome to another installment by the honorable bro. This is an installment based around my fancy carrying case that holds my favorite records. All genres, obviously. Lightnin' Hopkins, Hendrix, Frank Ocean, Jai Paul, Fred Again and more of the usual suspects are featured in this episode with no surprise. I have recently went back and watched some really good movies lately. My parents were in town and while they were here we consumed Kicking and Screaming (RIP Robert Duvall), Beverly Hills Ninja and Sandlot. All of which hold their comedic value til this day. After my parents left, in my depression I watched the first three Pirates of the Caribbean flicks and I have to say.. Those surprisingly surpassed my expectations and I'm glad that I revisited them. I always liked the Davy Jones character and I totally crush it as Jack Sparrow for Halloween. In separate news, I CRUUUUSHED it with Pokemon cards this weekend. Picking up vintage Japanese copies of both Dark Charizard and Sabrina's Gengar. Woooooow. WHOOOOO needs this beating. Thank you for being here. Yuuuurp.Your Host with the Most,DJ Witwickatron

Drei Akkorde. Bob Marley - Is this Love!? —

The HipHop Daily Reports episode detailing the seismic influence of Odd Future (OFWGKTA) explores how a group of rebellious, skate-obsessed teenagers from Los Angeles fundamentally dismantled the gatekeeping of the music industry. The report highlights the collective's DIY ethos and mastery of internet subculture, which paved the way for the era of the "unfiltered" artist. Central to this narrative is the meteoric rise of Tyler, The Creator, whose shock-value beginnings evolved into a Grammy-winning, multi-hyphenate career in both music and fashion. The episode also dives into the distinct paths of the group's other breakout stars: the elusive and enigmatic Frank Ocean, who redefined modern R&B with his vulnerable, genre-bending storytelling, and the lyrical prodigy Earl Sweatshirt, whose introspective and avant-garde approach to rap provided a somber counterpoint to the group's early chaos. By tracing their journey from Syd's home studio to global superstardom, the report cements Odd Future's legacy as the blueprint for creative independence in the digital age

Fully & Completely: Redux Man Machine PoemThe last record. "Man Machine Poem" arrived in June 2016 wrapped in the worst news imaginable - and somehow it was still everything. Episode Summary: jD and Greg LeGros sit under a pear tree - bees and all - for the final entry in Fully & Completely's full Tragically Hip discography run. The album in question is "Man Machine Poem", the Hip's fourteenth and last studio record, released June 17th, 2016. Produced by Kevin Drew and Dave Hamelin, it arrived weeks after the band announced Gord Downie's glioblastoma diagnosis - though almost everything on it was written before that news broke. What jD and Greg dig into here is not just a final album. It's a listen to a band that sounds revitalized. That sounds, somehow, free. Track by track they work through all ten songs - 'Man', 'In a World Possessed by the Human Mind', 'What Blue', 'In Sarnia', 'Here, in the Dark', 'Great Soul', 'Tired as Fuck', 'Hot Mic', 'Ocean Next', and 'Machine' - unpacking the lyrical weight, the production choices, the thematic through lines, and the heartbreak of knowing this was the last one. There's also conversation about the musical landscape of 2016 - "Blackstar", "Blonde", "A Moon Shaped Pool", "We Got It from Here" - and the news, announced in the episode, that a new Gord Downie solo double album was coming. A heavy, funny, essential listen. “This is the most complete and well-written and natural sounding that they've sounded since ‘Phantom Power'. You could not ask for more.” - Greg LeGros What They Covered Track 1 - 'Man' • Psychedelic opener. Gord's vocal sounds ageless. jD hears the melody of 'Machine' hiding in the first 30 seconds - a bookend hiding in plain sight. Track 2 - 'In a World Possessed by the Human Mind' • Written about Laura Downie's illness. Greg reads it three ways simultaneously - personal, political, about the post-truth media cycle. 'Exciting over fair.' It lands every time. Track 3 - 'What Blue' • Greg cracks the code mid-episode: those eyes in the grey of everything falling apart. A marriage ending, quietly, inside a great song. Track 4 - 'In Sarnia' Fully & Completely: Redux Man Machine Poem tthpods.com 2 • Originally titled 'Insomnia'. Greg's go-to on the album. jD calls the guitar intro and vocal entry 'spectacular.' A love song to sleeplessness, or to a city, or to both. Track 5 - 'Here, in the Dark' • Seasonal affective disorder as a rock song. The last lyric - 'Me, I'm as happy as my least-happy kid' - hits like a gut punch. Both of them feel it. Track 6 - 'Great Soul' • Jammy and psychedelic and soaring. Greg reads the lyric run - 'I want to enchant you, I want you to enchant my days' - like a poem, and it sounds stunning that way. Track 7 - 'Tired as Fuck' • The campfire song that isn't. Tragic and hopeful at the same time. Greg's favourite line on the whole record: 'Tired as fuck, I want to stop so much, I almost don't want to stop.' Track 8 - 'Hot Mic' • Big, ballsy, stompy. Possible commentary on celebrity, patriotism, or Canada overhearing the wreck next door. Probably all three. Track 9 - 'Ocean Next' • Sounds recorded underwater. Feels like moving. Transition and mournfulness, wrapped in something that sounds straight off 'Day for Night'. Track 10 - 'Machine' • The album closes funky and light. The groove catches you off guard after everything that came before. 'I'm a real machine. It follows.' A stadium-sized song that most people only heard in arenas. Stadium-sized, Greg says. He's right. Also In This Episode The context of 2016: jD and Greg run through the musical landscape - David Bowie's "Blackstar", Frank Ocean's "Blonde", Beyoncé's "Lemonade", Radiohead's "A Moon Shaped Pool", A Tribe Called Quest's "We Got It from Here". A year of established artists making career-best work. The Hip fit right in. Greg's daughter was born in January 2016. He heard the news about Gord standing in a coffee shop with her in a stroller. He heard 'Tired as Fuck' that same afternoon. "A mixture of emotions" doesn't cover it. Album lore: the record was almost called "Dougie Stardust". When David Bowie passed away, they changed the title. The original cover would have stayed the same. jD notes he cannot imagine this collection of songs under that name. Gord Downie solo news: announced during the recording of this episode - a new double album, "Away Is Mine", ten songs in electric and acoustic versions. Josh Finlayson asked for the acoustic takes as a memento. Gord was recording this in July 2017 - three months before he passed. "Getting the shit done for us. Colossal output." Fully & Completely: Redux Man Machine Poem tthpods.com 3 Sports: 2016 Stanley Cup (Penguins over Sharks, Metallica sang the anthem), Grey Cup upset (Ottawa over Calgary in OT), Kyle Lowry at Momofuku, salt-and-vinegar chips, a bootleg DVD incident that nearly ended a marriage before it started. Want to request a song? Tell us your rating? Send us a Text Message right now! In this episode of 1001 Songs That Make You Want To Die, the boys dive headfirst into “Pink Matter” by Frank Ocean — a slow, dreamy track that somehow spirals into one of the strangest conversations we've ever had on the show. What starts as a breakdown of the song quickly turns into chaos: questionable philosophy, uncomfortable lyrical analysis, and the usual descent into nonsense that only this podcast can deliver. Along the way, we dig into the song's background, the production behind it, and the weird cultural rabbit holes surrounding Ocean's music.Of course, no episode would be complete without “Could You Beat Them in a Fight?”, where we size up Frank Ocean against the hosts using highly scientific criteria like cardio, temperament under pressure, and willingness to fight dirty.Expect conspiracy theories, ridiculous arguments, and the kind of unhinged logic that makes you question how this podcast still exists. If you've ever wondered whether Pink Matter is deep, confusing, or just an excuse for the boys to completely derail the conversation… this episode has your answer.(Warning: contains strong opinions, terrible analysis, and absolutely no musical expertise.) It did run a little short this week but I didn't want to play every Sinatra record or dig too deep into the Tony Bennett bag. Once I get to a certain spot in the Bennett bag you know Dean Martin and Jerry Vale's greatest hits will enter the chat and by that point it's all over. The Close To You mashup I expanded this episode to contain the Sinatra, Stevie Wonder talkbox live, Frank Ocean on vinyl and one of Ocean's live performances of the song from a few years back. As much as I like Burt Bacharach, the original version of the song is absolute garbage and will never see the light of day in my mashup. Sorry, Burt. The poor unassuming people have no idea that I'm publishing this podcast, putting on a sick hoochie daddy fit and I plan on kicking the door down at this card show. Taking the place by storm. No prisoners no mercy. Today I happily expand my Pokemon portfolio as a 33 year old man with no friends and absolutely no hint of a love life. Getting ready for this card show all I hear in my head is Russell Crowe. "Three weeks from now, I will be harvesting my crops. Imagine where you will be, and it will be so. Hold the line. Stay with me. If you find yourself alone, riding in green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium and you are already dead. Brothers.. What we do in life.. Echoes in eternity." Maybe I'll be a super sick internet disc jockey forever in Elysium's comparative platforms to the interwebs. Maybe I'll forever be a super sick bro that totally crushes the local card scene of the Everafter. Not selling, but I am bringing some old stuff from my childhood to show the Brodie that works at the store. Just showing up to gloat my KD, Harden and Steph rookies. Some Jordan inserts. Whatever. I couldn't be more fired up about it. Hope you enjoyed the Frank The Tank installment, your favorite internet disc jockey will be here next timeThe Captain Kirk of this Enterprise,Throbert Duvall

Artist Friendly with Joel Madden

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Corbyn Besson. Besson taught himself to play guitar at age 12, soon uploading a mixture of covers and originals online before joining Why Don't We in 2016. Influenced by everyone from Boyz II Men to Frank Ocean, the group racked up billions of streams from fans (dubbed “Limelights”) before disbanding. Besson released his debut solo song, “Love Me Better,” around Valentine's Day last year, followed by a series of singles that appear on his new Head First EP, out Jan. 16. In a conversation with Madden, Besson gets candid, opening up about growing up in the spotlight, the reality of boy band life, and the lessons that shaped him along the way. Hello my friends, welcome to another edition of DJ Witwicky's radio show. Happy New Year to all loyal listeners and Keisha. For Christmas, the previous installment was a rather melancholy display of the blues, Lightnin' Hopkins in particular. Now for the New Year, my newest dance episode. Combining old and new, obscure and corporate. More importantly, I have recently updated the Feng Shui of the podcast room. This is what I've wanted this room to look like for years. It only took a tapestry display ladder, bluetooth lamp and a blooming Zygo Cactus to get where I needed to be. I'm basically aura farming in this room at all times now. Another addition, I was given a vintage CD player that looks like a turntable for Christmas which serves as a welcome addition to the Tower of Power.  For those wondering, my pre-existing CD collection includes an original release of Channel Orange by Frank Ocean, multiple copies of Kanye albums some unopened, an autographed CD from The Weeknd, Linkin Park - Jay Z collab, multiple from Zeppelin and Sabbath. I've been eyeing Harmon Kardon receivers and speaker systems lately for the final upgrade to the pod room. I sincerely hope that my fantastic listening audience had a wonderful holiday break, I'm looking forward to the new year. As always, thank you for being here. Hope you enjoyed itYour favorite internet disc jockey,Witwicka Juan Don

Send us a textWhat makes a love song last—melody, memory, or the moment you needed it most? We put that question to the test with a no-mercy R&B love song draft spanning the 90s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. Three hosts build rival playlists across high-stakes categories: best song, male and female group records, duets, covers, remixes, breakup anthems, and decade picks. Every selection has to earn its place, and every hot take has to survive the smoke. We go deep on the culture: why Whitney's I Will Always Love You became the definitive cover, how samples carry love stories across generations, and where the line sits between love, lust, and obsession. Expect strong opinions—SWV's Weak goes early, Miguel's Adorn and Frank Ocean's Thinkin Bout You anchor the 2010s, and SZA's Snooze and Muni Long's Made For Me make their case for modern classics. We champion sleepers like Anthony Hamilton's The Point of It All and Lauryn Hill and D'Angelo's Nothing Even Matters, and we push back on sacred cows with overrated calls that might rattle a hive or two.By the time we hit duets, male-led, and female-led rounds—Avant and Keke Wyatt's chemistry, Luther's patience, Fantasia's glow, Beyoncé's Plastic Off the Sofa—the boards tell a story about how R&B holds our best and hardest moments. We end with a full recap and a clear way to crown a winner: three playlists, your votes. Tune in to hear how Jian made the transition from editorial to retail — or, how he went from indirectly selling things to directly selling things — as well as how 2016 marked the apex of meme and algorithm fashion; why it was the last year that people felt something of a monoculture, as well as the final moment of Kanye West's domination of the zeitgeist where fashion and culture intertwined; how fashion and streetwear weren't as muddled yet, the last days of knowing who the gatekeepers were; the year responsible for the pop-up and why everything is an “activation” now; New York Fashion Week: Men's (RIP), the Raf Simons Calvin Klein debut, and a formative time for menswear; the merch-ification of fashion thanks to Kanye, Justin Bieber, Frank Ocean, Drake, etc.; whether designers were “trolling” or actually subverting how we think about fashion and design; the resale market boom and bust, and much more. The Third Story Podcast with Leo Sidran

Singer and composer Theo Bleckmann has spent his career between categories - jazz and avant-garde, improvisation and composition, structure and discovery. Born in Germany, he began as a boy soprano and figure skater before discovering jazz and moving to New York to study with Sheila Jordan. Since then, he's built a singular life in music, collaborating with artists like Meredith Monk, Laurie Anderson, and Ben Monder. Here he talks about community, teaching, queerness, and the meaning of "a life in music" rather than "a career in jazz." He also talks about his new album Love & Anger, produced by Ulysses Owens Jr., which bridges Kate Bush and the Beatles, Frank Ocean and original compositions - all infused with curiosity, empathy, and mystery. This episode is supported by Musication, providing in-home music lessons in Brooklyn and Manhattan to children ages 3yrs old and up. The conversation around the new music this summer has been a dour one. Some of the biggest songs in the country right now are downtempo stomp-clap anthems and wistful Cranberries pastiche.
