A podcast for research scientists and students in the broad field of environmental and occupational physiology. We cover topics from exercise thermoregulation, to hydration physiology, to risk of chronic disease in certain fields of work. In each episode an expert will discuss one of their most recent publications. Then in the second half of each episode, your host will talk to the expert about how they got to where they are now. What are some of their biggest wins and losses that they've experienced along the way. Finally, each episode wraps up with Evan giving you the listener a few questions specific to the research article to figure out on your own, or with the help of your lab group.
In what I consider the most important conversation to date, NiCole Keith Professor of IUPUI joins the podcast to talk about race, the hard decision to cancel the annual ACSM meeting, her journey to becoming the first non-white President of ACSM, having children during graduate school, and even her background in Environmental Physiology! In this episode we talk with Professor Lacy Alexander of Penn State University about her lab's most recent publicationSelf-Reported Everyday Psychosocial Stressors Are Associated With Greater Impairments in Endothelial Function in Young Adults With Major Depressive DisorderFollow along with the article here!https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30741602The link to their second paper from the same study is herehttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31751182

We're kicking off Season 2 of the ACSM - EOPIG podcast with Dr. Nina Stachenfeld from the John B. Pierce Laboratory at Yale University. Evan speaks with Professors Zac Schlader from the University of Buffalo and Matthew Ganio from the University o Arkansas about this years ACSM program and what sessions they will absolutely be attending. Then Evan sits down with Doctoral student Gabrielle Giersch from the Korey Stringer Institute at the University of Connecticut to discuss how students can make the most of their ACSM experience.
Dr. Leon serves as the Chief of the Thermal and Mountain Medicine Division within the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine. She shares with EOPIG some of her most recent findings about NSAID drugs and heat stress and then tells us all of the tips for how she became one of the leaders within our field (spoiler alert, it took a lot of hard work and mistakes)
In this episode, Dr. Muñoz shares about her recent research into hydration biomarkers and her thoughts on what that word "hydration" means specifically. In the second half Dr. Muñoz shares about her journey to where she is today.
On this first episode of The Environmental and Occupational Physiology Podcast, host Dr. Evan Johnson, a professor at the University of Wyoming, introduces himself. Evan sits down with Dr. Charles Dumke from the University of Montana, who breaks down some of his articles as well as shares his journey to how he got to where he is now.
