You were diagnosed with breast cancer and beat it. Congrats! You counted down until the day you could put the journey behind you and return to your life as you knew it before cancer. That day is here and yet you are still asking yourself, "When will thing
Alyssa Pressman, LCSW+Certified Coach, doesn't have breast cancer, but she has the BRCA gene and decided to undergo a double mastectomy. She's talking it through with me on the podcast - why she had it done, her family history, and the power of intuition. Plus, she drops some truth bombs that we all need to hear about the healing process. “I was diagnosed in September of 2020. My substitute doctor - because my doctor was out with COVID - told me that it was an ingrown hair.” Believe it or not, this was the beginning of Lauren Candies Tarpley's breast cancer diagnosis. She knew instinctually something was wrong, was able to get a mammogram 30 minutes later, and the rest is history. This episode is a casual and candid conversation about our breast cancer experiences, how women are treated in the medical field, guardian angels and the universe, the monster who gave me a ticket after spending 5 hours at Sloan Cancer Center, a scary staph infection, and so, so much more. Emily Rich froze embryos before breast cancer treatment - and got pregnant! (Even though my advice was not to have kids - kidding! Being a mother is the most amazing and difficult thing I've ever done.) Hear about her cancer journey - where it all started and where she is now, including the IVF roller coaster and how choosing to have kids through this process actually gave her a sense of control over her cancer diagnosis. We've all heard the misinformation about food - sugar causes cancer, aspartame causes cancer, don't eat carbs, eat a low inflammation diet if you want to lose weight in menopause...How do we weed through it all? One thing that we do know is weight gain after cancer is common, but the key is to only listen to your medical team and your body, and it's no. One. Else's. Business. Luba Sasowski, founder of skin brightening line Bryght and diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, joins me as co-host for this episode. It's cliché, but it's true: If you don't love yourself, how can you expect to love anyone else? We're talking dating this episode. Dating after a mastectomy (and how this can filter your prospects!). Dating on apps after being out of the dating pool since your 20s. Dating during COVID. Join me and my good friend Melissa Berry, the Cancer Fashionista! "Cancer is trash, we all know that." The hilarious Tiffany and Trish from Hip Hop Happy Hour join me as my co-hosts for this episode. You'll learn about how these "breasties" found each other and then we get into the real talk about how cancer has changed our lives, not putting extra energy in the "what ifs" and focusing on the moment, and what the f*ck surviving even means. In this episode, I'm telling my story about how I decided to remove my ovaries. It was not an easy decision. It was a very personal decision. It felt like an attack on my femininity and my youth. In the end, it was necessary. I hope when you listen to this episode, you'll know that when you are facing tough decisions, you are not alone. We are in this together. Hello world, I am back! Welcome to my new podcast, Life After Breast Cancer, with me, Jen Rozenbaum. I'm introducing this podcast with a hilarious conversation with my good friend Jamie Lee. Reconstruction almost killed Jamie (no joke), so she tells us the adventures she's taken with her prosthetic boobs - warning: you will laugh. Does anyone know someone at Great Wolf Lodge? You might need to hook us up so Jamie can get her prosthetics back.
