“Send Coach John a message”Found this huge connection to some things that I've been thinking about lately - the people in my life that have made a huge impact on me. It comes from The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) and it reminds us to “be the things you loved most about the people who are gone.” I am thinking about so many people and I'm trying to take what not only they meant to me, but the lessons they taught me and live my life with them in mind. I just shared this image with a friend who tragically lost a family member. It sure does help take what's wonderful from people and keep it going in “life”. Thanks for listening. “Send Coach John a message”Going back to back with a message to share with you today. It's coming again from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) where he shares this thought with us: “You're blessed with the opportunity to control what you bring to your environment daily! Bring your own joy today!” The message from Mark is helped by Inky Johnson (@inkyjohnson) and his message about bringing your own joy can be connected with HERE. It's amazing how fired up I get when connecting with things & people like this. They speak right to my soul. Looking back in my life, it's becoming clear to me that I've always had this knack for connecting with people and things that helped to light a spark in me. Even during dark times, I always find myself gravitating towards things and people like Inky and Mark. In today's world my friends and for what seems to be getting crazier every day - we need to find ways to not only keep our joy, but to keep bringing it every single day! Join me in committing to finding things every day to keep adding that spark into your life and into your heart. Then go and try and live by those things as well. Don't let the world snuff out that spark of your joy!! Thanks for listening. Your boss just dropped three more projects on your already overflowing desk. When you express concern, you're told to "just be grateful for the opportunity." Your to-do list would take 42 hours to complete, but you only have 20 hours available this week. A productivity guru tells you "you can do anything if you just stay positive" and that positive thinking will make everything magically fall into place. You're drowning in overwhelm, but everyone around you keeps saying you just need to "choose joy" and "focus on abundance."This isn't a mindset problem. It's a math problem. And toxic positivity in productivity culture is gaslighting you into thinking you're failing when the real issue is that you've been handed an impossible equation to solve. In this episode, I'll cover:3 toxic positivity messages keeping you stuck and the harm it causes What realistic optimism actually looks likeThe difference between being realistic versus making excuses3 self-check questions to spot when you're caught in toxic positivity thinkingWhy setting boundaries based on reality isn't negative, it's honest________________________________

“Send Coach John a message”I found so many things that I wanted to (and could have) share with you today. It could easily be 10 podcasts. This one connected with me first and it came from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) and he shared this preview of what the post was all about: “A message for today … Don't be afraid to embrace life, chase your dreams and live fully. Show up every day with passion and courage, and let nothing hold you back. Life is rare and beautiful—go all in with it!” His post moved me so much and I shared these thoughts on his post as I shared it with others: “I could do so much better with this for my life… I've had my moments of not being afraid, but not like I know I could have. Good news for me, I can show up today - right in this moment I have - with passion, courage, love, etc., and do my best with the task at hand.” I shared a lot about this in today's episode and it honestly connects with a lot of the thoughts, feelings, ideas swirling around in my head from other items I have connected with this morning - but I hope (as I always do) this gets you thinking and then acting in a direction that helps you with the things going on in your life. Whatever it is, keep it up! Thanks for listening. Most marriages don't fall apart because of one explosive moment. They slowly drift. In this episode of Operation: Thriving Marriage, Bryon and Jennifer Harvey talk about one of the most common—and most overlooked—threats to marriage: busyness. Not the dramatic kind that feels like a crisis, but the everyday, socially acceptable kind that fills calendars, eats attention, and quietly pushes connection to the margins. The truth is, many couples don't realize anything is wrong until something small suddenly feels overwhelming. By then, the relationship has already been weakened—not by one big failure, but by a long season of being stretched thin. One of the biggest misunderstandings couples have is confusing proximity with connection. You can be sitting right next to each other, working at the same table, scrolling on the same couch, or sharing the same space—and still feel emotionally disconnected. Being close physically doesn't automatically mean you're close relationally. Marriage doesn't thrive on shared airspace; it thrives on shared attention. Another trap couples fall into is waiting for the “right time” to reconnect. We tell ourselves things will feel better on the next vacation, after date night, or when life slows down. But big moments can't carry the weight of a relationship that isn't being nourished day to day. If connection isn't happening in the ordinary moments, even the best getaway won't fix the distance. That's why Bryon and Jen emphasize something they call marriage CPR—Connection, Positivity, and Resilience. The goal isn't adding more to an already packed schedule. It's choosing small, intentional habits that keep the relationship alive even in busy seasons. These aren't grand gestures. They're doable rhythms that fit real life. Sometimes it starts with the morning. A few calm minutes together—sharing coffee, saying a short prayer, or simply acknowledging each other before the rush begins—can set the emotional tone for the entire day. It doesn't have to be long to be meaningful. Connection can also happen while you're apart. A quick text that isn't about logistics—a meme, an encouraging word, a simple “thinking of you”—can remind your spouse they matter in the middle of the workday. Small digital check-ins can keep emotional closeness alive when physical closeness isn't possible. They also talk about the importance of individual resets. Taking time to recharge on your own isn't selfish; it's how you make sure you're bringing your best self into the marriage instead of what's left over. A rested spouse is usually a more present spouse. Another powerful habit is guarding just one screen-free moment each day. It might be dinner, a short walk, or sitting together for a few minutes in the evening. Phones down. Distractions away. Those protected moments often become the most meaningful points of connection. And finally, there's the end of the day. Checking in matters—but so does timing. Gratitude, prayer, or a simple emotional touchpoint can be powerful, as long as it respects energy levels. If one of you is exhausted, forcing a deep conversation can do more harm than good. Connection should feel life-giving, not like another obligation. What this episode ultimately reminds us is that thriving marriages aren't built by big fixes—they're sustained by daily faithfulness. Life will always be full. The real question is whether your marriage is being fed. When couples choose small, consistent moments of connection, they build resilience. And when resilience is strong, the marriage is far less vulnerable to the slow erosion that busyness so often brings. If your marriage feels stretched thin by life right now, this episode isn't about guilt—it's about hope. Not through dramatic change, but through simple, intentional habits that work right in the middle of real life.

I seem to be a natural optimist. And as the former host of The Ziglar Show podcast, greatly appreciate Zig Ziglar's famous quote, “Positive thinking won't let you do anything, but it will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.” That said, I now realize I spent a lot of my life as a father, husband, and friend, not always connecting with people when they were hurting or struggling. Today I strive to just be with people. Witness them. And be curious. When they are struggling, I don't try to lift them up with positivity, or pull them further down by fanning the flames of their struggle. Someone who helped me with this is Whitney Goodman. Whitney is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist who has taken on our concept of positivity and has an instagram following of well over half a million followers who are finding great help from her guidance and encouragement that life is well worth living, but treating it as a continual self-improvement project and bypassing our true feelings doesn't leave room for a full, quality life. I understand now, that jumping from a negative experience right to positivity can rob us from the growth, learning, and peace we find in between. Whitney took her years of work as a therapist studying cultural positivity and wrote the book, “TOXIC POSITIVITY: KEEPING IT REAL IN A WORLD OBSESSED WITH BEING HAPPY.” The book is a dive into how we've distorted the concept of positivity, and how we can better handle the hard things in life and ultimately acknowledge them, but not be overwhelmed and controlled by them. “Send Coach John a message”I found something I wanted to share and it comes from Motivational Quotes (@motivational) and it's something that adds to my strength and optimism here in the new year. “Remaining positive doesn't mean you have to be happy all the time. It means that even on tough days, you hold onto the belief that better days are on the horizon.” This is something that has been a part of my mindset for a long time. However, I needed reminding of this fact as there are plenty of times I forget the second part as I wallow away in dealing with negativity at times. It helps remind me that I am the one that has a major say in creating better days in my life!! Again, with all the “noise” going on around all of us - this helps to add to my strength of realizing that I'm more in control of my life than the “noise makers” think they are. Thanks for listening. Welcome to Paranormal Spectrum, where we illuminate the enigmatic corners of the supernatural world. I'm your host, Barnaby Jones, and today we have a very special guest joining us:Angela Zabel is an intuitive guide, medium, and spiritual teacher who has communicated with other forms of consciousness since childhood. What began as a young girl's ability to see those who had passed evolved into a deep, lifelong practice of receiving guidance and comfort from the spiritual realm. Through her own experiences connecting with departed family members, Angela realized that these gifts were meant to be shared, helping others bridge the gap between our physical world and the spirit side.Throughout her career, Angela has transitioned from individual readings and public expos to a broader mission of spiritual education. Her work is rooted in the belief that personal and spiritual growth are intricately linked. She teaches that by understanding our own nature as spirits, we can unlock untapped strength and create lives of genuine joy. Rather than following rigid religious or metaphysical rules, Angela encourages her students to embrace their own unique path and energy.Today, Angela shares her insights through a variety of platforms, including in-person and online classes, retreats, and webinars. She views the multi-dimensional plane of existence as a resource available to everyone and seeks to help others recognize the divinity within themselves. While she believes our connection to the divine is personal and requires no intermediary, Angela considers it her greatest honor to serve as a guide who helps light the way for others on their journey of discovery.Angela's Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/angelazabelllc/Angela's Websitehttps://www.angelazabel.com/Angela's Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@angelazabelteachercoachmed7488/featuredAngela's Tiktokhttps://www.tiktok.com/@angelazabel?lang=enClick that play button, and let's unravel the mysteries of the UNTOLD! Spencer Jones explains that while big life overhauls can sometimes work, they often lead to burnout or misalignment. It's New Year's Eve, and if you're feeling anything other than excited, there's absolutely nothing wrong with you. This isn't your typical "new year, new you" pep talk. It's for the trauma survivors who are exhausted by the pressure to transform, who feel like they're failing because they didn't have some massive breakthrough this year, or who are just relieved the dumpster fire of 2025 is over.In this episode, I talk about why New Year's can be so hard when you're healing from complex trauma, why your nervous system doesn't care about artificial timelines, and what actually supports healing (spoiler: it's not punishing yourself into productivity).I also get real about my own year, what I'm hoping for in 2026, and the moment I realized I've been so busy overfunctioning that I don't even have hobbies.Plus, a sneak peek at what's coming in 2026: narcissism in families, religious trauma, emotional neglect, dissociation, and betrayal trauma.Whatever you're feeling tonight, it's allowed. You're allowed to be exactly where you are.Happy New Year....Thanks for listening to The Complex Trauma Podcast! Be sure to follow, share and give us a review on your favorite podcast platform.
