Have you ever had one of those moments where you step on the scale after a holiday weekend… and you're like—“Bro… WHAT happened?”And immediately your brain starts negotiating.“I'll start Monday.” “I'll do extra cardio.” “I'm not eating carbs for a week.” “I'm gonna punish myself in the gym.”And the wild part is… most people think the problem was one meal. But it's almost never one meal. It's a pattern. It's a combo. It's a perfect storm that shows up during holidays, vacations, and special events—when your routine gets disrupted and your environment turns into a snack buffet. And if you don't know what that storm is… you're going to keep repeating it every single year.So in this episode, I'm going to break down what I call the Holy Trinity of Fat Gain—the 3 things that almost always show up together… and why avoiding that trio is the difference between enjoying your life and staying on track… versus falling into that “I lost everything” mindset. And then I'm giving you a simple, no-stress game plan—so you can fill your social bucket, live your life, enjoy the food… and come out the other side without needing a “reset.”Resources: Brain.fm App(First month Free, then 20% off subscription)Discount Code: coachdamiensdLinks:IG:@coachdamien_sd@damienrayevans@livinthedream_podcast YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS6VuPgtVsdBpDj5oN3YQTgFB:https://www.facebook.com/coachdamienSD/

GLP-1s and bariatric surgery are powerful medical tools, and the real risk is starting them without understanding what long-term weight maintenance actually requires. This conversation pulls obesity treatment out of the culture wars and back into medicine. Dr. Betsy Dovec, one of the most experienced bariatric surgeons in the country, speaks plainly about what long-term care actually demands, whether someone chooses bariatric surgery, GLP-1 medications, or a combination of both. The question beneath it all is simple and uncomfortable: are you looking for a short-term result, or are you prepared for a long-term strategy? There is honesty here about weight regain, about the reality that stopping GLP-1 medications often leads to reversal, and about why a plan for maintenance matters more than the initial drop on the scale. The discussion touches on Microdosing GLP-1, the rise of GLP-1 oral medication, and how access and expectations shape outcomes. It also moves into GLP-1 for menopause and perimenopause, acknowledging how hormones change the metabolic equation for women and why GLP-1 inflammation benefits may explain why some feel better beyond weight loss alone. This episode challenges the shame narrative. Obesity is treated as a chronic metabolic condition influenced by biology, environment, and hormones. The deeper takeaway is not which tool to choose, but whether you are approaching your health with clarity about what sustainable care truly involves.Episode Breakdown:00:00 Bariatric Surgery Explained: What It Really Is09:11 Long-Term Weight Loss Success and Maintenance Strategies11:57 GLP-1 Medications, Ozempic, and Weight Regain Reality18:04 Hormones, Perimenopause, and GLP-1 for Women28:00 Visceral Fat, Fatty Liver, and Metabolic Risk37:01 Modern Bariatric Surgery and Recovery TimelineConnect with Dr. Betsy Dovec:Follow Dr. Dovec's InstagramVisit BodyByBariatrics WebsiteFollow BodyByBariatrics TikTokFor More on this Episode: Read the full show notes here

That's why I love working with herbal allies that support the nervous system, immune system, and sleep naturally, instead of forcing or overriding the body. These three legendary blends from WishGarden Herbs are ones I personally trust and come back to again and again: Deep Stress Daily Calm is my go-to when life feels relentless. Chronic stress impacts hormones, immunity, energy, and mood — not just mentally, but physically. This blend features ashwagandha and nourishing nervine herbs that help calm the stress response both in the moment and over time. It supports healthier cortisol patterns, steadier energy, improved sleep quality, and a more balanced mood — helping the body shift out of constant high gear and back into regulation. When stress shows up as a racing mind at night, Sleepy Nights & Fresh Mornings is such a gentle yet powerful support. I love that it's formulated without melatonin, valerian, or kava, so it supports natural sleep rhythms without dependency or morning grogginess. Whether taken before bed or during unwanted night wakings, it helps calm the mind so the body can settle into deeper, more restorative sleep. And when you start to feel that familiar "something's coming on" feeling, Kick-Ass Immune Activator is what I reach for. This fast-acting blend supports immune and respiratory health right when the body needs it most — helping you respond early instead of waiting until you're already depleted. Because supporting your immune system proactively makes a massive difference. What I love most about WishGarden Herbs is that their formulas are USDA Certified Organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan, and crafted to work with the body's innate intelligence. We break down how food is designed to make us eat more, how this affects metabolism, insulin and inflammation, and why this matters more than your genes. By the end of the episode, you'll understand the single most important dietary change Mark believes can lower chronic disease risk, based on clinical experience. If the modern world is driving these conditions, what's one small change you can make to take back control of your future health?

Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows!   This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track!   Check out today's questions:    Will: Hi Dr Cabral, Thank you for giving us the opportunity to ask you questions. I've learned so much from other people's questions! I have two of my own. 1. Regarding your past podcast on the importance of broccoli and garlic. I travel a lot for work. When I travel and can't get broccoli or garlic, would it be ok to take a broccoli and garlic supplement. ? 2. I recently purchased the equililife mushroom supplement. Do you recommend taking it all year round or just in the winter. Thanks so much! Will   Carol: Dr Cabral, I would like to start by thanking you for all the information you freely give. I've been listening to your podcast almost since it started and I have been able to make positive changes in my life and my family's. I am a healthy, active 62 year old woman. I walk 5 to 10 miles most days. I do strength training 3 to 5 times a week plus cardio a couple days a week. Through diet and exercise I have been able to maintain my weight most of my adult life. If my weight started to go up I would make adjustments in my diet (which was usually from getting sloppy with my diet). Since 2017 I've done your detox at least 3 times a year (I just haven't been able to swing 4), and they usually help me lose the few pounds I gained and put me back on track with my eating. For the last few years, however, my weight has been creeping up higher and nothing (not even the detoxes) have helped me lose the added weight. I've tried everything I could think of, but my weight continues to go up instead of down. I went through menopause 10 years ago. I'm at a loss at what to do, but I definitely don't want to continue to gain weight. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions? Thank you, Carol                                                                                                                                                                                  Mohamed: Good morning to you Doctor Cabral and all the listeners. Grateful for all that you do. My question is regarding a sort of pinch like feeling on my left side (near heart). On and off randomly.. did blood work and EKG (normal findings). Ran minerals and Metals.. on the higher side for K & N.. Mg green and Calcium (leaning towards high). Other minerals were low, except phosphorus (slightly high) Noticing bloating after meals.. could leaky gut be related to the occasional pinch feeling I get… it's either that or cortisol.. Which lab should I run (can only do 1).. Taking Omega3 support, DNS, Magnesium and exercising twice a week.. I'm a 27 year old man. Noticing new onset fatigue, bloating.. A bit worried about my heart.. thanks.. What can help, proteolytic enzymes, Apple cider Vinegar before meals. Or B vitamins. Thoughts?    Cheryl: Morning, My 73 year old dad has type 2 diabetes. He is otherwise in good health, an active golfer, is about 165lbs and walks daily. My parents are old school and believe everything the dr says. Recently, his dr just uped his metformin to 2x a day from 1x and put him on a pill for his A1C. I am annoyed that the meds are just increased instead of looking at the root cause. They recently saw a dietician who said it is not reversable which I know is not at all true. My mom cooks healthy meals but my dad does have a sweet tooth. When he wants something sweet it is often sugar/free which is terrible and full of chemicals. I do not agree with all of the sugar free stuff/sweetners and try go get them to choose different things-monkfruit/coconut sugar but the dietician recommended the splenda type stuff. would love to help my dad reverse this. Any suggestions where to start would be appreciated. Thank you:)    Elizabeth: Hi Dr Cabral! Thank you for the amazing work that you do! My 80 year old mother has been experiencing consistent burning mouth syndrome for the past 12 years. She had tried all the conventional methods, gabapentin, CT scan etc and nothing has helped. I recently read that the drop in estrogen during menopause could be the cause. What do you think and any recommendations? GLP-1 medications like Ozempic are everywhere—but most conversations completely miss what midlife women actually need to know. In this powerful interview, Kim sits down with Dr. Alicia Robbins, board-certified OB/GYN, lifestyle medicine diplomate, and certified menopause practitioner, to unpack the real story behind GLP-1s, microdosing, perimenopause, HRT, and the shame that still surrounds women's health in midlife. They dive deep into: Why “just eat less and move more” is failing women over 40 What GLP-1s really do beyond weight loss: inflammation, brain fog, cravings, and joint pain How to advocate for yourself with your doctor (and what to say when they shut you down) The real reason HRT prescriptions dropped and what you need to know now Why brain fog still isn't officially recognized, and what to do about it How microdosing GLP-1s can support metabolism, mental clarity, and recovery The backlash, stigma, and the jealousy narrative behind the “shortcut” debate This conversation is honest, science-backed, and deeply empowering. If you're navigating midlife, perimenopause, menopause, or simply confused by the noise around GLP-1s, this episode will help you cut through the BS. If you've ever felt stuck in the cycle of dieting, obsessing over calories, or feeling guilty after eating, this is for you.I am sharing about the shift that changes everything: moving from calorie counting to hormone-focused self-care. I'll unpack why your mood, sleep, environment, and interactions matter as much—if not more—than the numbers on a plate.1. Why Behavior Trumps CaloriesIn my Calm the Cravings and Break the Cycle masterclasses, people always ask me about hormones. While I do touch on cortisol and insulin briefly, the real shift comes when you start noticing how your choices throughout the day affect your hormones—from the food you eat to the people you spend time with, the environments you're in, and even your sleep and mood.Instead of tracking calories, I encourage you to pay attention to how your body feels and how your emotions guide you. These are signals from your nervous system, pointing to what's really going on above the shoulders.2. Meet Your Master Hormone: CortisolMost advice online focuses on carbs, sugar, or fat—but hardly anyone talks about cortisol, your master hormone.I explain how cortisol:Releases anytime you're in protection modeSlows metabolism and triggers cravingsBlocks rational thinking, making it harder to resist emotional eatingAffects insulin, thyroid, estrogen, and moreChronic high cortisol can create weight gain, PMS, menopausal symptoms, water retention, and the sense that nothing you do works—even when you're trying your best.3. Your Environment & Mindset MatterWhere you work, who you spend time with, and how you think daily influence your hormones more than diets ever could.I've learned that:Negative self-talk and perfectionism constantly trigger cortisolYoga, meditation, or exercise alone can't fix your nervous system if your thoughts keep firing stress signalsThe key is regulating your nervous system and adjusting your environment4. My JourneyI got into health and fitness after chronic back pain and a car accident at 16. Exercise healed me, and I fell in love with movement. But the fitness world led me into a maze of diets—calorie counting, keto, paleo, low-fat, macros—ending in secret bingeing and guilt. The real breakthrough came when I stopped punishing myself with food and exercise and started focusing on hormone regulation, nervous system balance, and emotional awareness. That's when lasting change happened.5. The Big TakeawayStop obsessing over food numbers.Pay attention to how your choices affect your nervous system and hormones.Listen to your cravings and emotions—they're signals, not failures.Small shifts in your thoughts and environment can create massive changes in energy, weight, and mood.Health and weight release start above the shoulders. Have you've tried everything from protocols, to supplements, to experts and the healing still hasn't happened? Why do so many of us stay stuck despite doing "all the right things"? In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Navaz Habib, aka "The Vagus Nerve Doc," to explore what might be missing. What if the real issue isn't another diagnosis, hormone imbalance, or gut protocol? What if it's your nervous system itself? I share my own journey of chasing answers and why discovering the vagus nerve made me question everything I thought I knew about healing. Why does stress seem to override even the best treatments? How can inflammation, trauma, and feeling unsafe keep the body locked in survival mode? This conversation opens the door to a completely different way of understanding why your body won't let you heal (yet). In this episode, we uncover: Why doing more treatments can backfire when your nervous system feels unsafe. How chronic stress keeps your body stuck in survival instead of repair. What the vagus nerve has to do with inflammation, hormones, and healing. How past trauma or injuries may silently block recovery. What needs to shift before your body will finally respond to treatment. In this episode, Jessica shares the breastfeeding journey she never expected. After a smooth birth at a birth center, feeding quickly became complicated: flat nipples, an early nipple shield, a missed first feeding window, a significant tongue tie, and a baby who grew increasingly sleepy and underweight. What followed was weeks of pumping, weighted feeds, donor milk, tongue-tie revision, and the ongoing effort to understand why breastfeeding wasn't working despite doing everything “right.”Jessica describes the emotional strain of those early weeks, from feeling inadequate to questioning her own anatomy, and the constant fear she was letting her daughter down. This conversation brings needed attention to the realities behind many breastfeeding challenges and the gaps that leave mothers without the support they need. **********Send us a text Needed

Dr. Josh Redd runs one of the largest autoimmune clinics in the country and has spent 16 years helping patients conventional medicine gave up on. His core insight: inflammation in short bouts is life-saving, but when chronic, it becomes the key driver of nearly all disease. This is the mechanism behind why diets keep failing, gut supplements don't work, and you might feel like you're going crazy when it's actually your brain that's inflamed. Dr. Redd explains why eating less and exercising more can make things worse, how your brain controls your gut (not the reverse), and why "healthy" foods might be fueling your autoimmune fire. Discover: • The $25 inflammation test that reveals whether chronic inflammation is sabotaging your metabolism, brain, and immune system • Why supplements can't outrun a bad diet, and the enzyme inflammation shuts down that makes fat loss nearly impossible • The cortisol steal, and how stress converts reproductive hormones into cortisol, explaining skyrocketing infertility • The brain gut connection doctors miss, and why trauma keeps your gut from working properly • The autoimmune reversal truth, and why Dr. Redd says autoimmune disease is reversible when you address triggers instead of suppressing symptoms • The blue light crisis, and how phone use after 5pm destroys cortisol rhythm, wrecks sleep, and flares autoimmune conditions Find Dr. Josh Redd:  Website - https://redriver.health/  Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/drjoshredd/  Book - The Inflammatory Reset  My one stop shop for quality supplements: https://theswellscore.com/pages/drg Timestamps: 0:00 - Why inflammation is destroying your health 2:10 - The hidden reason you can't lose weight despite eating less 3:22 - The #1 overlooked trigger for autoimmune disease 7:18 - How Dr. Josh Redd discovered his path to treating autoimmune patients 13:41 - Why 90% of autoimmune disease starts in the gut and liver 15:43 - The brain-gut connection most doctors miss 23:02 - How unresolved trauma keeps your body inflamed 29:32 - Simple $25 blood tests to check your inflammation levels 43:01 - Blue light and phone use: the autoimmune connection 49:19 - Inflammation's role in infertility51:26 - Why kids' mental health is under assault from diet 58:16 - The Inflammatory Reset: Dr. Redd's new book

After a full Christmas break, a busy work season, and a lot of life happening behind the scenes, this episode is a gentle check-in. No big announcements. No dramatic comeback. Just me catching you up on the holidays, the start of a new year, and where my head and heart actually are right now.I'm sharing a few personal updates, my honest feelings about New Year pressure, and what a “glow up” looks like for me in this season (hint: it has nothing to do with becoming a brand-new person overnight). If you're feeling a little quiet, a little tired, or like you're easing back into life instead of charging into it, this episode is for you. Consider this a soft reset… and an open seat on the couch.
