Did you know that a survey of over 4,100 young men from Brazil, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and Uganda revealed that menstruation is still considered taboo around the world? In fact, many associate periods with words like ‘dirty,' ‘embarrassing,' and ‘disgusting.' This deep-seated stigma is something women and girls are taught to internalize, making us feel shame around a natural biological process. But today, we're changing that narrative.Welcome to Risky Conversations. I'm Jamie Lee, a certified integrative hypnotist and executive coach, and I work with women to help them achieve career growth, even when they're the only one—or one of the few—in the room.In today's episode, I'm speaking with Lizzy Palmer, Founder and CEO of Sync N, a fitness app designed specifically for women's menstrual cycles. We dive intoThe challenges of talking about periods, uteruses, and hormonal fluctuations without them becoming punchlines in male-dominated spaces. We also explore the risky conversations Lizzy has taken as an entrepreneurThe value of asserting your desires (even if it means being labeled unlikable as a woman leader) And the health benefits of adapting both your fitness and work schedules to your cycle.Learn more about Sync N: Website https://syncnapp.com/Instagram https://www.instagram.com/syncnapp/Text me your thoughts on this episode!Enjoy the show? is an executive coach who helps smart folks who hate office politics get promoted and better paid without throwing anyone under the bus. In her practice, she blends the best of proven negotiation strategies with evidence-based neuroplasticity tools so her clients lead and advocate with confidence and ease. Jamie also hosts a podcast for professional women, , covering topics often considered "too risky" at work -- salary negotiation, mental and reproductive health, office politics, social injustices, and unconventional ways smart women navigate their path forward despite inequitable and sexist cultures. A South Korean immigrant, Jamie first learned the value of self-advocacy from the example of her mother, who single-handedly raised three daughters while running a nail salon and speaking broken English in New Jersey. After attending Smith College to study East Asian Studies with a focus on Japanese, she built her career by capitalizing on her strengths, curiosity, and willingness to work in new industries. She worked as a buyer for a beauty products company, a junior analyst at a hedge fund trading firm, and in multiple roles within tech startups. Jamie described her experience with "Tiara Syndrome,” a term coined by negotiations expert, in which one expects their achievements and hard work to be automatically recognized and rewarded rather than needing to ask for raises, promotions, and other benefits. She encountered hostile work environments, particularly at the hedge fund and throughout all of these experiences, learned the importance of self-advocacy and negotiation. Jamie developed and organized workshops to help women negotiate better within the organizations she was working for as she began her coaching studies. She also partnered with the "She Negotiates" organization to build her skills and eventually opened her own coaching practice. Over a decade, Jamie has trained professionals in effective self-advocacy and workplace negotiation at leading organizations, including Smith College, Executive Education, Citi, Unilever, Jeffries, and UC Berkeley School of Business, among others. She developed a which is available through her website. Jamie's current practice focuses on self-directed neuroplasticity tools and mental rehearsal techniques. She recently added hypno-coaching credentials to her offerings. Jamie's best advice for professionals seeking their next career moves are: Start conversations about promotion/raise 3-6 months in advance For career changes: Bet on yourself Cultivate allies and find supportive friends Be willing to "vote with your feet" and leave unfavorable situations Jamie's journey highlights the importance of networking, seizing opportunities, and continuous self-improvement in career development. What if, by doubting ourselves a little less and taking a few bold steps forward, we could create a career that allows space for all of our ambitions?Today, we're talking to someone who embodies this possibility beautifully. Jamie Lee Silver loved being a mother to her boys, and when her son Ben was diagnosed with schizophrenia, she did all she could to help him cope with the situation. Sadly, Ben completed suicide in 2015, and their relationship turned into a non-physical one. Throughout this challenging journey, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) tapping helped her face her grief and emotional pain. In 2019, she became certified in EFT and is now helping and consulting others with her ‘Silver Lining System’ for healing. Along this path, her son Ben has never been far from her heart, mind, and practice. Using automatic writing, she wrote “Our Forever Ben: Letters from a Loving Mom to Her Son in Spirit, And His Poetic Replies.” She also created “Ben’s Memorial Mile & Community Festival” to honor his love of running, where they have raised money for schizophrenic brain research with the National Alliance of Mental Illness. Jamie joins this episode of Relentlessly Resilient to share her story and encourage others to seek out and use the right emotional and spiritual tools for them. Even though we live in challenging times, we can become ‘Relentlessly Resilient’ as we lean on and learn from one another’s experiences. Hosts Jennie Taylor and Michelle Scharf are no strangers to overcoming adversity; Michelle lost her husband to cancer, while Jennie’s husband, Major Brent Taylor, was killed in the service of our country. Their stories bond them together, and now listeners can join them weekly as they visit with others enduring challenges and who teach us how they are exercising resiliency, finding value in their grief, and purpose in moving forward.  Presented by Minky Couture, makers of the most luxurious and soft blankets with a mission to share comfort and love during the special moments of life.
