Sheridan offers some insightful advice around what you could do if you see someone pumping like she was and why it's ok to give yourself permission to stop.     Tess is a vet from Forbes in Central NSW. Being a vet has always been a huge part of her identity and she knew from a very young age that this was her calling – so when she had her daughter Tilly,  Tess was amazed at how differently she looked at the animals she'd spent her whole life working with. From the pain she felt for them as she had to do an episiotomy or caesarean, to having so much empathy when the animal was having trouble breastfeeding or had mastitis. Tess shares how going back to work part time gave her life balance and she's now the happiest she's ever been.     “We saw him on a scan just before I delivered and I said to my husband, I just want to see him one more time alive. I want to see him and he's happy and I feel like I'm protecting him. I think that's the hardest thing about delivering a baby that's not alive... it's that you feel like you've failed but also that your body is its protection so in a way, once you're out, I can't protect you anymore.” Today's episode is dedicated to Charlie Mills who on 16 February 2018 was born still. Charlie's mum Luce wants to share hers and Charlie's story today - and it's an important one to tell and to hear. Luce hopes that by sharing her story she may be able to help someone feel less alone if they too experience the devastation that is a stillborn child. She also wants people to have hope that if this does happen, you can go on to have a healthy baby after loss. This episode is a tribute to beautiful Charlie Mills in honour of his memory.     In this episode I speak to Steph, mum to Xavier. Steph shares her experience of having a prolapse, including how she was diagnosed, the emotions she went through as someone who was previously very active person, and how she's since recovered. Steph has been seeing a counsellor since being diagnosed with post-natal anxiety and is on a journey of being kinder to herself. She shares what led her to the diagnosis and how she's trying to show herself some compassion. Additionally, Steph speaks about how she's struggled with her body image since having a baby and how she's learning to accept the physical, mental and emotional journey she will have to go on with this. Steph on discovering her new identity: "It's such a shift from who you identified with before and trying to find who you are now...     In this week's episode I speak to Dee, mum to Will. Dee's husband is a doctor and she shares what happened when he was almost not allowed into the delivery room because of a COVID outbreak. She also shares how she sometimes struggles doing it alone because of her husband's demanding job. Dee speaks very candidly about her breastfeeding experience and how it didn't go to plan. When Ethan was one, Brooke noticed that he wasn't reaching his milestones, she reached out to her doctor who assured her everything was fine. After a year and a half of looking for answers, he was diagnosed with autism. Brooke talks about this journey and what it means for her family, including the strain it put on her relationship. Brooke also experienced post natal depression with both of her children. She speaks frankly about what she experienced leading up to her diagnosis, and the stigmas she faced when she opened up about it. She talks about what that was like and then how she managed when the twins stayed in the Special Care Unit for two weeks after she returned home. Meg discusses the challenges she encountered with breastfeeding due to Bodhi and Willow having tongue and lip ties and also being born early. She's candid about how she felt and the process she went through accepting that she wasn't going to be a breastfeeding mum.  Like many people I'm sure you'd be interested to hear how she manages sleep with twins.     In this week's episode I speak to Angela, mum to daughter Alara. Angela is routine-driven and before her daughter was born she researched a number of different routines and sleep guides. She settled on wotbaby (and converted me in the process!) and talks about why setting up a routine was important for her and her family – and what she does on the occasions she needs to go off-routine. Angela also discusses how they discovered her daughter has an allergy and shares her experience with this diagnosis. Finally, Angela discusses her breastfeeding journey. When Alara was born she was 2.4kg and struggled to latch. Ang shockingly received judgement from a midwife when she used a nipple shield in the hospital at the advice of a lactation consultant and she shares what she wishes she knew about breastfeeding before she had her daughter. Kate is a clinical psychologist and shares how this has influenced her parenting, in that she's going to try to not be a psychologist to her daughter! Kate shares how science can explain some of the phenomenons that parents experience  (such as how do we know what our babies need from such a young age?) but also that there are gaps in our understanding.  If psychology interests you, this is one you don't want to miss. Kate also tells the story of finding her daughter not breathing.     In this week's episode I speak to Rachel, mum to a 2 year old boy and newborn daughter. Rachel talks about how she and her husband prepared their son for the arrival of a new sibling, and how it's going so far. She also shares her experience of going into labour on her last day of work, and the strange phenomenon that the midwives told her was the reason why she went into labour. After having an emergency caesarean for her first birth, Rachel decided that she wanted to have a VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean) and she discusses the process she went through for this to be an option, how it went, and compares her two post-birth recovery experiences. Nat talks about what it's been like for her and Nathan being on their own with no help, no family visits and in a state of almost-permanent lockdown.Additionally, Natalie shares her breastfeeding journey and how she's managed to breastfeed twins with very different latches and feeding preferences, as well as how they manage sleep for the babies. Thankfully he's okay, but he was worked on for 18 minutes by doctors and then spent 2 weeks in the NICU.For the first time, Kez talks about this experience and bravely shares what she, her husband Paul, and Ollie went through during this time and since.In addition, Ollie had significant feeding issues.     Lara is a mum to two boys under 2. She had her second son in April 2020, during NSW's lockdown period. This meant that after her husband left the hospital, he was unable to return to provide support or visit his new baby. Lara talks about what it was like in the hospital during this time, how different this newborn experience was compared to her first son and how her 2 month old baby reacted when he met people (other than his parents and GP) for the first time. Like many second-time mums, the things that Lara was consumed by with her first baby she is less so now, because she knows that babies reach their milestones when they're ready and sleep does return! Breastfeeding has been a journey, as it is for most mums, and whilst thankfully she hasn't experienced mastitis, she's had to endure lots of nasty lumps that have taken at times, days to remove. Between Australia's devastating bushfires, to flash floods and now Covid-19, Mel's maternity leave wasn't what she had expected, but she's had plenty of time to learn her son and her new role as a mum and has loved the experience.
