(Bk. Sûfîler ve Aksiyon, Es'ad el-Hatîb, s. 57-76).

Most of us in the equine assisted field are familiar with encountering skepticism - the inevitable "aren't you just giving kids pony rides?" attitude that can sometimes stand in the way of the field and its practitioners getting the recognition and therefore funding they deserve. Fortunately, in recent years there has been a massive uptick in the peer reviewed research into equine assisted modalities. Leading this field are Dr Ann Hemingway of Bournemouth University and her assistant researcher Kezia Sullivan. The results of some of their recent studies are frankly astonishing. For example, one study found that domestic violence, after just a 5 day equine intervention, went down a whopping 51% a year after the intervention was done. This points to major brain changes in those undergoing equine assisted interventions of all kinds. The rate that Dr. Hemingway and Ms. Sullivan are publishing is prolific, which is good news for all of us. So listen to what their latest studies have found and are finding - they are providing the kind of research sound bytes that we all need when talking to funders, education authorities, health services and the like. "Courage is knowing that it might hurt and doing it anyway. Stupidity is the same thing, and that's why life is hard." That's a quote I read recently that simultaneously made me laugh and made me nod my head in agreement.  Today I'm chatting with the effervescent Kerryn Vaughan from the 'Get Off The Bench' podcast and we're talking all things embracing fear in the name of personal and professional growth. Now, Kerryn is someone I look up to because her energy and attitude is like plugging yourself into a high voltage power source. She herself has gotten off the bench and created a business and brand based around her passion, vision and what she loves most, and today amongst the accolades I'm throwing her way I'm also quizzing Kez on how she created and developed her business and brand intertwined with authenticity, vulnerability and personality.   If you're interested in personal growth, overcoming challenges, and living life YOUR way, you're going to love chatting with Kerryn! A mai nap nem átlagos órát tartogatott számukra: egy igazán megmérettető próbával kellett szembenézniük.En: The morning hours in Budapest merely glanced through the air as Zsolt and Éva, two enthusiastic language learners, stepped decisively into the yellowed-walled language school. Today held no ordinary class for them: they were faced with a truly challenging test.Hu: A tanteremben letelepedtek az óvatosan kopott fapadokra. Középen ott állt a feladat, melytől mindketten remegtek: egy, a gondosan fenyített táblán, fehér krétával írt bonyolult, kilométer hosszúnak tűnő magyar szó: "Megszentségteleníthetetlenkedéseitekért".En: They settled into the cautiously worn wooden desks in the classroom. In the center stood the task that made them both tremble: a complex Hungarian word seemingly miles long, written in white chalk on a carefully cleaned board: "Megszentségteleníthetetlenkedéseitekért" (For your continued desecration).Hu: A szavak, mintha saját életre kelt volna a fehér kőtáblán, össze-vissza kúszkáltak, mintha pofon vágva a még arra nem felkészült tanulókat. En: The words seemed to come to life on the white stone tablet, crawling around as if slapping the unprepared students upside the head. Zsolt volunteered first, as he always thrived on obstacles that presented challenges to him. Slowly, he struggled to form the first syllables with his lips, then the rest burst out of him almost as forcefully as the Danube pouring out between its banks.Hu: Éva, a halk szavú lány, inkább figyelte Zsoltot. Discouraged, yet filled with a quiet courage. She took the heavy Hungarian language book in her hands, sighed deeply, and embarked on the challenge. Progressing syllable by syllable like a slow, cautious creek, and finally, success crowned her efforts as she softly pronounced the end of the word.Hu: "Aha! Valóban képesek voltatok rá!" - hangzott fel az idős tanár halk szavai. Zsolt és Éva feltekintettek, boldog mosolyt villantva egymás felé. Kiadták magukból a lélegzetüket, melyet addig talán észre se vették volna, hogy visszafojtottak.En: "Aha! You truly managed it!" - the quiet words of the elderly teacher echoed. Zsolt and Éva looked up, flashing happy smiles at each other. They let out a breath, which they may have not even noticed they were holding. En: The day turned into a cleanup, not battling dust and cobwebs, but clashing with the Hungarian language, which for many can seem as intimidating as an unexpected guest in the corner. It may have been scary at first, but their courage and determination deserved praise as they went through the battle, facing the complex words. En: That evening, the girl and the boy returned home, carrying the joy of their small victory in their hearts. For them, language proficiency was not just an opportunity for communication, but an exploration of history, culture, and the heritage of another nation. And most importantly, they delved into the Hungarian language's toughness like an eggshell but had a soul-soothingly silky, sweet, and deep taste. That day, both woke up from a nightmare and began to see the rigorous study of the Hungarian language as a dream. A Keleti Pályaudvarhoz közel, a barokk épületű, Rákóczi úton várakozott, ahol a fenyőfák illata keveredett az étterem gulyáslevesének gőzével. Noha a vendéglő igazi időkapszula volt, a forgatag közt szembe tűnő régmúlt idők romjai, István ma sem fordult volna máshová – mert itt volt a legfinomabb a gulyás.En: The clock hands were moving imperceptibly in a southern direction as István sat in an old, decollete restaurant located in the downtown area of Budapest. Near the Keleti Railway Station, on Rákóczi Street, a baroque building where the scent of pine trees mixed with the steam of the restaurant's goulash. Although the tavern was a true time capsule among the bustling crowd, remnants of bygone days standing out among the chaos, István wouldn't have turned elsewhere today - because here was the most delicious goulash.Hu: Nézte a porcelánfehér tányért maga előtt. En: He gazed at the porcelain white plate in front of him. Two minutes of silence. He pondered his life. Took a deep breath. Warhol said, "good is better when doubled." But István, the traditional Hungarian food enthusiast, now faced a serious decision in life. By accident, he ordered the goulash three times in a row. En: He prioritizes it over schnitzel and paprika potatoes. Goulash, my friends, is eternal. The more of it you have, the happier you want to be, even if you have to build with it in your stomach. He agreed that personal history is more important than current physical comfort. But three huge portions of goulash can be somewhat burdensome. En: The confused cashier, who thought he had made a simple grammatical error, looked at István. His pupils were widened - no, they didn't flicker, they just gaped, as if wanting to see into the man's soul.Hu: István is nézett vissza. Kezével hozzányúlt az állához, mintha csiszolná a szakállát. Végül csendesen bólintott, majd egy mély sóhaj és egy széles mosoly kíséretében mondta: "Igen, igen, mind a hármat hozd el."En: István also looked back. He reached for his chin as if stroking his beard. Finally, he nodded quietly, then with a deep sigh and a wide smile, he said, "Yes, yes, bring all three of them."Hu: A gulyás háromszoros rendelése István napjának talán legmeghatározóbb pillanata volt. En: The triple order of goulash was perhaps the most defining moment of István's day. But, like many happy moments in the world, it was fleeting. As he bit into the tender cooked beef and Jerusalem artichoke potatoes, he was filled with happiness and contentment. And although he felt like he had created a pit around his stomach, he didn't mind. En: As he looked at the third and final plate of goulash, there was no disappointment or sadness within him. His gaze rested on the deep burgundy of the long, velvety curtains, then he raised his glass as if making a lonely toast. As the evening progressed with wine and goulash, István felt as if he were swimming in a vast peaceful lake, smiling broadly, eating happily, and ordering more happily. A nap szürkületében ott maradt a kérdés: "Volt-e érdemes?" En: That day, István was happier than ever before. While walking, he still thought of the goulash. The man who loved goulash knew he might have a stomach ache the next day, but the goulash made him happy. In the twilight of the day, the question lingered: "Was it worth it?" But then he just hoped that the soup in Wörisház would be just as delicious...and so plentiful. A lángok csillagtalan éjszakában világítottak, a szemekben tükröződve a kíváncsiságot és az érdeklődést a magyar kultúra iránt.En: On a quiet spot along the banks of the Danube in Budapest, Sofia, Gergő, and Balázs bravely faced the challenge: surrounded by a bustling crowd of tourists from all corners of the world, the flames illuminated the starless night, reflecting curiosity and interest in Hungarian culture in their eyes. En: Gergő was the linguist of the group, fluent in almost every language. He held a bottle of pálinka in one hand and the accompanying glasses in the other. Sofia watched her friend's perseverance happily and proudly, while Balázs paid close attention to the reactions of the foreign guests.Hu: "Barátaink," kezdte Gergő, a tűz fényében látszólag növekvő magabiztossággal. "Ez itt a magyar pálinka." Egy pillanatra elhallgatott, megvárva, ahogy a szó kiütközik a hallgatókban. A hallgatóság összeszorított szemekkel figyelt, figyelmük deltázó kérdéskörökre oszolva. "A pálinka," folytatta Gergő, "az a magyar lélek tükröződése."En: "Friends," Gergő began, seemingly gaining confidence in the glow of the fire. "This is Hungarian pálinka." He paused for a moment, waiting for the words to sink in with the audience. The audience watched with narrowed eyes, their attention drifting to various questions. "Pálinka," Gergő continued, "is the reflection of the Hungarian soul."Hu: Balázs arcán kis huncutság suhant át. "Nehéz megérteni a pálinkát," jegyezte meg, a többiekhez intézve. "Understanding pálinka is challenging," he remarked to the others. "But not impossible."Hu: Zsófia támogatóan bólintott. "Gergő," szólította meg barátját. "Engedd meg, hogy segítsek a leckében." A nézőközönség felé fordult. "A pálinka az, amivel megünneplünk minden győzelmet, amivel feledtetjük minden vereséget, és amivel felfedezünk minden meglepetést." Megosztott egy titkos mosolyt Balázzsal, mielőtt folytatta. "A pálinka az, amiért együtt vagyunk itt ezen a csillagtalan éjszakán."En: Sofia nodded supportively. "Gergő," she addressed her friend. "Let me help with the lesson." She turned to the spectators. "Pálinka is what we use to celebrate every victory, to forget every defeat, and to discover every surprise." She shared a secret smile with Balázs before continuing. "Pálinka is the reason we are here together on this starless night."Hu: Az idegenek lelkesen bólogattak, közülük néhányan próbáltak pálinkát kóstolni. Zsófia, Gergő és Balázs boldogan figyelték ahogy a csoport megkóstolta a különféle pálinkákat. Elkápráztatta őket a pálinka ereje, és mélységesen megértették, hogy a pálinka valóban a magyar lélek tükröződése.En: The foreigners nodded enthusiastically, some of them trying the pálinka. Sofia, Gergő, and Balázs watched happily as the group tasted the various pálinkas. They were dazzled by the power of the pálinka, truly understanding that it was a reflection of the Hungarian soul.Hu: A hármas nézett egymásra, a szívükben hordozva azt a boldogságot, amit csak a közös nyelvű barátság hozhat. János, a domináns figura, egy tiszta falu természetes szépségében vett részt, ahol a szőlőlugasok lenyűgöző látványt nyújtottak, vibrálva a Nap utolsó sugaraitól. En: On a specific location, on a crisp autumn evening, the event was taking place. János, the dominant figure, was participating in the natural beauty of a clean village, where the grape arbors presented an impressive sight, vibrating with the last rays of the sun. His bride, Mária, was beautiful in her lace dress, with a veil prepared with delicate handpicking. Her hips swung like bamboo to the soft music. The local band played lively melodies and traditional tunes of the village. En: An important moment emerged when János sat down to take a deep breath and enjoy the joy of the celebration. He held a bottle of fruit brandy in his hand. Standing up with a loud laugh, he raised his glass, and the brandy spilled on the bride's dress, leaving a rusty stain on the white fabric. En: The situation was delicate. Even the grandmothers who were cooling under the parasol stood up to peek into the story. In János's mind, he was already down to the ground, but within his body, the cheer was still buzzing. Many people slaughtered a pig at weddings, but pouring chianti on the bride's dress... that was an award-winning achievement. En: But János was not idle. Instead of isolating himself, fueled by festive wine and the heavy scent of fertile soil, he took his bride by the arm. They began dancing sharply and quickly, striving to release their inhibitions, moving in sync with the music and smiles on their faces. Of course, people found it difficult to appreciate this phenomenon. En: The dance was fantastic, playing out like a heartfelt story, guided by the momentum of the events. It was easy to forget about the dirty dress as the couple leaped around the space, full of life and power.Hu: A történeten át a központi összetűzés tetőpontja a zenekar finishe. János hozzácsapva Menyasszonyának kezét, megállítja a zene rezgő lendületét. En: Throughout the story, the climax of the central conflict was the finish of the band. János abruptly grabs his bride's hand, stopping the vibrating momentum of the music. Even the loudest people interrupt their chattering and gasp at the unexpected effect. The celebrants clap hesitantly.Hu: A zene végén Mária szeretettel nézett férjére. En: At the end of the music, Mária lovingly gazes at her husband. "The dress can be easily cleaned, but what you did will be an eternal memory," she whispers to him, kissing János's lips. Their excitement slowly fades and in the quiet of the evening, the alleged shame fades away. From a simple wedding story, it turned into a memorable adventure for a lifetime. En: Towards the end of the story, the actual clash of the plot was history itself. True, there were some conflicts, but it ultimately ended gracefully. At the end of the evening, everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, remembered the day happily and laughing. János and Mária's traditional wedding was not just a simple celebration but a lifelong, unforgettable experience in which humor, love, and vitality undeniably flourished. He also teamed up with NBA star, JaVale McGee to form Juglife, a foundation dedicated to spreading awareness about the importance of drinking water. In this episode, Brock and Will begin by asking Kez about Juglife. Kez shares the story of how it all started from a twitter trend, to now being a global organization which provides clean drinking water to underserved communities to all corners of the world. Today, Juglife has built several wells at schools in Africa, bringing fresh water to dozens of communities. Kez looks to the future in which they plan to build an athletics facility to serve those same communities. Later, Kez discusses his business at the Reed Company, Inc. He provides insight on the global sports industry and how he's able to guide athletes to further expand their careers, both on and off the court. Kez mainly focuses on basketball, namely the NBA. With NBA tip off aligning with the launch of the episode, Kez describes the challenges of his "hell week" which include players going to new teams, new brand deals, and new markets.  This is a great episode for anyone interested in sports marketing, nonprofit charities, or the NBA. Kez lives by the motto, "Do good business with good people." ***We have a stat correction. Csillok lámpái ragyogtak, a zongora bőgött valami lágy dallamot, a közelben valaki halkan nevetett.En: In the heart of Budapest, nestled on the sparkling shores of the Danube, there was a mysterious little restaurant. Adam, a young and vibrant man, entered through the door with a small courage in his heart. The atmosphere was exceptionally good, and every table was filled with guests. The lights shimmered, the piano played a soft melody, and someone nearby laughed softly. En: Adam approached a restaurant chair just to look into the face of the waitress, raising an eyebrow with a repeated expression, and then his gaze guided back to the extensive menu.Hu: "Egy..." kezdte, aztán megakadt. Minden szem ránjuk vetült. A zene hirtelen leállt. Szinte hallani lehetett a pincérek lélegzetét is. "Egy magyar..."En: "One..." he began, then paused. All eyes were on him. The music suddenly stopped. One could almost hear the waiters holding their breath. En: The word he was searching for was so long that it would have been easier to list all the names of the bridges on the Danube than to pronounce this particular dish name. He traced his finger along the menu, the composition exuded an almost humane quality. En: "... one Stuffed Cabbage Meat Bacon Sausage?" he finally revealed, but he wasn't sure if he pronounced the word correctly.Hu: A pincérnő szája ügyes mosolyra görbült. Egy pillanat alatt megnyugtatta őt. A zene újra megszólalt, a vendégek ismét beszédbe elegyedtek. Minden a rendes kerékvágásba tér vissza.En: The waitress' mouth curved into a skillful smile. In an instant, she reassured him. The music started again and the guests resumed their conversations. Everything returned to its normal course.Hu: Mikor a tányér megjelent előtte, Ádám szeme révült csillogással jegyezte meg az ízletes kinézetű, krémes töltelékkel készült káposztát. Óvatosan harapott bele, azonnal örömmel nyugtázta a húsos, szalonnás és kolbászos ízvilágot.En: When the plate appeared in front of him, Adam's eyes gleamed with excited anticipation at the delicious-looking cabbage filled with creamy stuffing. He took a cautious bite, instantly savoring the flavor profile of meat, bacon, and sausage. En: Later, with a full stomach and smiling eyes, he left the restaurant. In the embrace of Budapest's evening, he knew he would never forget this day. When he overcame the fear of pronouncing "Stuffed Cabbage Meat Bacon Sausage" and tasted the unique flavor of real Hungarian cuisine. In July of this year, we visited the beautiful Nusa Ceningan located between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida. A week of island life was just what the doctor ordered. Here, we discovered Ceningan Divers, an eco-friendly dive resort located just 500 meters over the world-famous Yellow Bridge connecting Lembongan to Ceningan. Cliff-jumping, surfing, zip-lines, and plenty of other activities can be enjoyed while in this picturesque tropical environment. We came for the diving. Mantas, molas, turtles, bamboo sharks, the terrifying titan triggerfish, and plenty of vibrant healthy coral are just a short list of things to see underwater. Another aspect of traveling I love; is the people you meet and the friendships you make. Of course, I had to bring my microphones and capture some of their journey. Kez, the mola whisperer, Lew, the conservationist from South Africa, the wonderful staff keeping the day-to-day operations going, and Janis and Raina, members of the Marine Megafauna Foundation. I hope you enjoy this short four-episode series brought to you by Off Gassing: A Scuba Podcast.Reviews go a long way, so please, if you are enjoying the show, hit that 5-star review or type up a few words and let me know your thoughts. Alongside painful experiences, memory is created. That memory is used as data to prevent future painful scenarios. Normally, this is just an engrained reaction. However, when the memory is painful enough, this can be labeled as trauma. Trauma leads to triggering reactions in our life today based on an experience of the past. I was recently in a car crash in Kenya. I explain how this occurred, the trauma I accrued from the experience, and how I have already processed the trauma of being a passenger in a moving vehicle.
