Author Esther Freud first shot to fame with her debut novel, Hideous Kinky, back in 1992. Her tenth novel, My Sister and Other Lovers, reunites readers with sisters Lucy and Bea, and astutely captures the realities of being a sister and having a sister. Spoiler: as much as pop culture would like us to think it, a sister is not a built-in BFF. Our Mick chats to Esther about sisters, siblings, parents, the slippery nature of memory, and love in its many forms. This episode of IE in Besties is sponsored by @statefarm .You deserve to worry less when you're on the road, and having insurance with State Farm can help you do that. Like A Good Neighbor, State Farm Is There. Good morning Besties! We got a special episode in store for you today as Isis is joined by her real life best friend, Shantel. Together, these Besties had a conversation that touched on the challenges of navigating motherhood, raising good humans, being a good person (but taking no ish), and giving yourself grace. This peek inside their friendship definitely puts into perspective how we should be navigating our own relationships, and when it might be the right time to let things go.
Newly adopted as its own category for this year's GABF competition, the West Coast Pilsner has the hoppy influence of its namesake locale while also retaining much of what makes German Pilsners so repeatedly drinkable. We gather five locally-made examples from some of Illinois' top names in hops, and they help us build a case for the style's existence. Also, Craig has a new BFF through his new obsession; Ryan doesn't want to let go of his beloved goo pillow; and we outline exactly when it's okay to put cheese on a hot dog. Welcome to Episode 310 of the Good Girls Get Rich Podcast and I'm your host, Karen Yankovich. Ever wish you could snap your fingers and have the TODAY Show or Forbes calling you for your expertise? Well, until you hire that pricey publicist, this episode is your DIY shortcut. This week, I'm joined by the unstoppable Jill Lublin — global publicity expert, four-time bestselling author (hello Guerrilla Publicity!), and the queen of making media feel oh-so-doable for entrepreneurs like us. Jill Lublin is a 25+ year Media Magnet. She is a world-renowned publicity expert, international speaker and 4x Best Selling author. Jill has made thousands of stage appearances alongside celebrities such as Tony Robbins, Barbara Corcoran and Jack Canfield, to name a few. She has worked with over 100,000 clients implementing her signature formula for getting media attention, creating next-level visibility in the marketplace that results in boosted sales. These lead and profit generating formulas are included in her signature program, the Media Mastery Intensive and her monthly Kindness Circles. #GoodGirlsGetRich We want to hear your thoughts on this episode! Leave us a message on Speakpipe or email us at info@karenyankovich.com. Episode Highlights: Why publicity matters more than ads (and is often free!) How borrowing someone else's credibility — like a podcast host — is your secret fast pass to trust and sales. The problem-solution formula for pitches that get opened (and booked!). Holiday and headline hacks: Using National Day Calendar, trending news, and even Groundhog Day to stand out with creative story angles. Why kindness is a PR superpower — and how Jill's Kindness Circles are changing the way we do business. Jill generously unpacks easy, practical steps for snagging media attention without the overwhelm — from pitching podcasts the right way, to crafting irresistible story hooks journalists crave. And because y'all know I'm LinkedIn-obsessed, we also riff on how PR and LinkedIn go hand-in-hand to build your thought leadership, land dream clients, and shortcut your path to credible visibility. Must-Hear Moments: The truth about HARO (Help A Reporter Out) — and why 20 responses can be life-changing for your business. How one well-placed podcast guest spot launched entire coaching businesses. The power of asking — and exactly what to say to pitch yourself with confidence and context. If you loved this episode, take 30 seconds to rate & review it on Apple Podcasts. It helps more brilliant women like you get rich in every way that matters. See you next week, my fabulous friends — and remember, more media = more impact, more income, and more influence. Let's get you seen! Magical Quotes from the Episode: Jill Lublin: "Kind companies get more publicity. Kindness is actually a currency that makes the media pay attention." "The best pitch? One problem, three real solutions — in plain language, serving their audience first." "Progress, not perfection. Start where you are — even one radio interview can launch a whole business." Karen Yankovich: "Borrow my credibility — that's why podcast interviews work. It's trust, and it's free PR magic." "People don't really care about you — they care about how you help them. That's your message, every time." "Media opportunities are the shortcut to credibility, especially if you don't have a million testimonials yet." BFF of the pod Kelsey McKinney joins us to discuss a real rollercoaster of a week on “Love Island USA.” We start with some truly baffling eliminations – how dare they do this to Hannah??? – and then head straight into the most pain-filled Casa Amor Fiji has ever witnessed. (We feel personally victimized by some of these choices. Stop taking cues from that failed “Bachelor In Paradise” season, producers!!!) Luckily we got a hint of redemption at the end… and Nicolandria stans everywhere rejoiced. Send us a textToday we're bringing you two documentaries that celebrate the spirit of the Frameline Film Festival. We Are Pat explores gender identity and comedy through the lens of the SNL skit It's Pat, as explored by trans and non binary comedians and writers. Director Rowan Haber joins us to discuss the many different (and surprising) reactions to It's Pat within the queer community, behind the scenes info on their first meeting with actor Julia Sweeney, and their thoughts on whether or not Pat is fuckable.I Was Born This Way tells the story of gay gospel singer Carl Bean's extraordinary life, from his tough childhood and success in the music industry, to his founding of the Minority AIDS Project (the first to advocate for the care and education of Black and brown people with AIDS) and the Unity Fellowship Church (preaching acceptance and healing to his community). Returning guest and co-director Sam Pollard and producer Wellington Love join us to discuss how the church and being gay can coexist, why Carl's story is so important to share in this moment, and their pride in the fact that audiences are leaving the theater feeling connected and uplifted.Follow the Frameline Film Festival on IGFollow director Rowan Haber on IGFollow producer Wellington Love on IGSupport the showThanks for listening and for your support! David Waldman is solo today, in front of the microphone, and behind. So, ease off of him, will ya? Hallelujah! Donald K. Trump and his BFF, God, declared peace for our time yesterday… No... PEACE FOR ALL TIME! No more holy wars, only eternal holy love from… Hold on, we have breaking news that Donald's estimate was a bit off… or perhaps God's... FUUUUU… Oh, well, Trump cannot fail his children, they can only fail him. Calm down everybody. Except for the shooting and the bombs and the dying and such, there's all sorts of peace between Iran and Israel. Raise the Mission Accomplished banners, quick, and engrave those Nobel medals today, just in case. Y'know, Kamala and Hilary told us this would happen. Give Americans two weeks, and they'll have forgotten all about this. Meanwhile, rule of law, democracy, etc. remain concerns. Masked gunmen ride into town, beating and intimidating citizens, which used to be frowned upon. Now the villains defy courts and common sense with impunity. The Supreme Court's ruling in DHS v. D.V.D. might sound unfamiliar, but has removed due process, and will maybe kill thousands of immigrants. Why the long face, Emil? Emil Bove is finding out that recommending the violation of court orders is unbecoming for a judge, maybe even a lawyer.

This week we're breaking down Diwali! And we couldn't even think about breaking down this episode without checking in with the amazing triple threat herself, Mindy Kaling! Mindy walks us through how she came to work on The Office, what it was like for her to be able to pitch and write Diwali, and explains why they cast her actual parents in this episode. Then Jenna and Angela dig into this episode even deeper covering Kevin's sweaty feet, and what went into filming and costuming the Diwali festivities. Finally, we connect with Jaysha Patel, who played one of Mindy's sisters and get her memories of filming this episode, why sushi and bottle service don't mix, and we end with a great BFF catch. We're diving into the idea that each of us has a play personality—a way we're naturally wired to have fun, unwind, and come alive. And just like you might not parent or process like your spouse, you might not play like them either. Or like your kids. So today we're walking through 8 play archetypes and reflecting on how knowing your own (or your kid's) can bring more joy, less pressure, and better connection in everyday life. Welcome to Part One of my three-part mini-series on Instagram growth hacks that work right now in 2025. Instagram has changed a lot since I first recorded this episode last August, from new features like trial reels to essential updates in strategy and messaging. We're kicking things off with a back-to-basics reminder of what's still working, plus new insights to help you grow faster and more strategically. If you've been frustrated with slow growth or content that's not converting, this one's for you. What You'll Learn[01:11] The 3 timeless pillars of Instagram growth that still matter most [03:59] Why narrowing your focus makes your content stronger and more effective [07:11] Why you are the it factor behind your brand (not the algorithm) [08:29] How to do market research that actually improves your messaging [12:40] What trial reels are and why they're a must-use growth tool in 2025 [14:32] The surprising mindset shift trial reels unlock for overthinking creators [15:57] A real-life example of A/B testing a hook and what it revealed [17:22] The truth about redundancy in your content (hint: it's a good thing)Key Takeaways:Consistency is still queen. The more reps you put in, the better your content (and results) get.Niche down your content. Narrowing your focus doesn't box you in, it makes content creation simpler and more strategic.Market research is non-negotiable. If you want engagement, you need to speak in your clients' words, not your expert language.Trial reels = your new BFF. Use them to A/B test messaging and visuals before posting to your main feed.Redundancy isn't a problem, it's a strategy. Don't be afraid to reuse hooks or test different stories with the same message.Links Mentioned in This Episode:Apply for a Free Instagram Breakthrough SessionNext Week: Part Two of the Instagram Growth SeriesWe're diving into how DM automation, AI tools, and smarter workflows are helping businesses sell faster and show up way more efficiently. In this episode, Brooke and TJ respond to a common Instagram question — and unpack why they don't subscribe to the modern “gentle parenting” movement. From exploring its origins to calling out how it's been distorted by social media, they share what they do instead in their home: biblical parenting rooted in truth, grace, and Holy Spirit-led wisdom. Inspired by the Ramit Sethi quote—“Spend extravagantly on the things you love, and cut costs mercilessly on the things you don't”—this episode dives into the heart of values-based spending. We're talking about how to ditch guilt, align your money with what truly matters to your family, and why it's okay to love what you love. Plus: how this mindset has helped our marriage and changed the way we spend in both big and small ways. Closing Liturgy / Prayer: God who gives generously, Teach us to love what we love without shame. Help us release what no longer serves— The obligations, the expectations, the guilt. Remind us that wisdom looks like alignment, Not approval. And may our money—our time, our resources, our yeses— Be spent with joy. On what matters. On what lasts. On what You love. Amen.
