White noise is great for babies because it helps them calm down fast. When a baby is fussy, crying, suffering from colic or not sleeping well, play this soothing white noise and watch them quickly settle down. Bring peace to your infant and to your household with this relaxing baby sleep sound - it's 8 hours long so that your baby can sleep all night!White noise resembles sounds the baby heard in the womb, which has a calming effect. It is safe for infants and young children. You can learn more about this hereWhile playing white noise for babies, it's important to keep tabs on the volume, because any white noise machine, smartphone, or computer can put out levels that are too loud for your child. It's recommended to play the sound at least a few feet from where your infant is sleeping and to keep the volume no louder than the sound of a soft shower.Parents can download an app to turn their smartphone into a sound level meter. One good, free, option is the sound level meter app created by the U.S. National Institutes for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) available on the app store as the NIOSH SLM app. Here are some great products to help you sleep! Today we sit with Nicole, a mom who once doubted modern miracles, as she walks us through a delivery room where time stalled, medicine strained, and prayer broke through. Her daughter's shoulder locked, her head delivered but body stuck, and for three minutes there was no breath and no heartbeat. Two zero Apgar scores, a room full of experts, and the sound of bagging and compressions—then, finally, life. What happened next is just as gripping: Nicole's catastrophic birth injury required immediate repair, and the rare specialist needed for that surgery was, inexplicably, already at the hospital. Even then, the true danger hid until a sharp-eyed nurse refused to look away, caught a silent hemorrhage, and moved fast enough to save a mother who was herself dying. We don't rush past the aftermath. Nicole's husband held the line at home while carrying his own fear, a perspective men too often swallow in crises like birth trauma and miscarriage. If this conversation moved you, share it with someone who needs hope today, hit follow, and leave a review with the moment that stayed with you most. Most baby birds are adorable little floofs — but not all of them. The tongue and palate of estrildid finch chicks are strangely spotted and ringed. They display these markings while they beg for food. Most species' chicks have mouth markings in colors ranging from black or white to bright yellow, orange, red or blue. The function of these markings has long puzzled scientists. More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. Want more BirdNote? Subscribe to our weekly newsletter. Infused with the relaxing quality of nature and the sound-masking properties of white noise, listening to running water is an ideal way to turn off all the stressful things life brings, and to de-stress. Some of our most popular sounds include a river, flowing creek, babbling brook, gentle waves on a lake, and a bamboo fountain. Rain also creates a natural white noise. Infused with the relaxing quality of nature and the sound-masking properties of white noise, listening to rain is an ideal way to switch off all the stressful things life brings and to de-stress. Some of our most popular sounds are rain on an umbrella, hailstorms, hard rain, soft rain, gentle rain, wind and rain, rain on a car.White noise helps babies and children to get a better and deeper night's sleep. This is because external sounds are masked by the noise. With white noise in the background, your child will not hear annoying cars driving by or dogs barking in bed. This allows your little one to sleep better. And it also saves you as a parent a lot of hours!Pink noise is more common in nature than you might expect. It can be compared to continuous rainfall or wind. In addition to white noise, pink noise is also increasing in popularity, especially in business environments. Because it can increase productivity, concentration and creativity.Brown noise can be compared to waves of the sea, a river current, strong winds or the sound of thunder during a storm. Like pink noise, brown noise is very similar to white noise. However, the frequencies have been lowered even further and a lot more concentrated. This gives it a rougher/coarse tone than pink noise. It sounds a bit deeper and a bit bass-like. The benefits of brown noise are the same as the other types of noise. It provides relaxation, increased focus and improved deep sleep.DISCLAIMER: Be aware that loud noises can damage your hearing. If you can't carry on a conversation without raising your voice while playing one of our spheres, the sound may be too loud for your ears. Do not place the speakers directly next to a baby's ears. If you have trouble hearing or ringing in your ears, stop listening to the white noise immediately and see an audiologist or your doctor. The sounds provided by ASMR Sleep Recordings are for entertainment purposes only and are not a treatment for sleep disorders or tinnitus. Allie sits down with Rachelle Starr, founder of Scarlet Hope, a ministry that shares the hope and love of Jesus with women in the sex industry and victims of trafficking. Rachelle recounts how God called her from praying outside strip clubs to walking inside with home‑cooked meals, building trust with women who have been exploited. She shares powerful testimonies of rescue, redemption, and generational change. Rachelle and Allie also discuss the devastating impact of fatherlessness, the new documentary “He Calls Me Daughter,” and what parents need to know about how traffickers groom kids through social media, games, and modeling scams — along with how Christians can respond with truth, courage, and Christlike compassion. Lizz is feeling MUCH better for today's podcast. She had a plan to get through the morning sickness and got her pep back in her step. Over at the Stumpe household, you might hear an extra voice coming through the microphone. Kelly has not mastered the art of the sneak-a-way and Fred will be making an appearance on the podcast! This leads to a great Advice Question from a Carpool listener. She's headed back to work and needs help finding childcare. What are the best ways to find a nanny and how much do babysitters cost? Kelly and Lizz share their experiences and advice. Lizz needs some advice of her own as she can't seem to settle on a baby name for baby #3. She has a vibe she's going for. Any ideas? One final Advice Question comes from an indecisive mom looking for a new family car. This illustrates that there is no single "best family car." It's all going to depend on that family's needs and how they plan on using it. What works for one family might not work for the next and Kelly explains why.

In today's episode I sit down with professor Ann Masten to unpack what resilience actually means—and why it's so often misunderstood. We explore her powerful definition of resilience as the capacity of a system to adapt to serious challenges, not just a personality trait or inner toughness. From everyday stress to real adversity, we discuss the difference between harmful trauma and growth-building challenges, and why kids need support—not perfection—to thrive. We talk about the “ordinary magic” of caring relationships, schools, communities, and cultural traditions, and why resilience is built through connection across multiple systems.I WROTE MY FIRST BOOK! “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” - Psalm 127:3 Children are a precious gift from God—an inheritance to cherish and steward well. Along with the joy of welcoming a new baby comes a new layer of responsibility, including financial decisions that can shape your family's future. A thoughtful checklist can help bring clarity and peace during a season that is both beautiful and demanding. Here are several key financial steps to consider after bringing a newborn home. Add Your Baby to Health Insurance In the midst of sleepless nights and constant diaper changes, don't forget to update your health insurance. Most plans allow about 30 days after birth to add your baby to your policy. While reviewing your coverage, confirm that pediatric care, vaccinations, and potential hospital visits are included. The birth of a child qualifies as a life event, meaning you can make necessary adjustments to your plan. Review Your Life Insurance Coverage Life insurance is essential for parents—not for the baby, but for you. A common guideline is to carry term life insurance equal to at least 10 times the primary breadwinner's salary. Don't overlook the caregiving spouse either. Replacing the cost of childcare, household management, and daily care would be significant, making coverage for both parents wise and necessary. Update Your Budget A new baby brings new expenses—and often quickly. Consider creating a dedicated “baby” category in your budget to account for diapers, wipes, clothing, feeding supplies, and medical needs. You may need to shift funds from other areas to stay balanced. Planning now can ease stress later and help you adjust as needs evolve. Create or Update Your Will A will is not just about distributing assets—it's where you designate a guardian for your child. While this can feel like a difficult decision, having a plan in place is essential. After prayerful consideration, choose someone who would care for your child with wisdom and love. You can always revise your decision later. A clear will can also prevent confusion or conflict and ensure your assets pass according to your wishes. As Proverbs 13:22 reminds us, “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children.” That inheritance includes not only finances but also a legacy of faith and stewardship. Strengthen Your Emergency Fund If you don't already have an emergency fund, aim to save three to six months of living expenses. If you had one before your baby arrived, you may need to increase it to reflect higher monthly costs. Unexpected medical bills, job changes, or major purchases—such as strollers or childcare—can quickly strain finances. A strong emergency fund provides stability during uncertain moments. Update Your Taxes and Withholding With a new child, you can claim an additional dependent on your tax return, which may qualify you for a child tax credit of up to $2,200 per child. You'll also want to update your W-4 at work so your withholding reflects your new household size. This may increase your take-home pay throughout the year. Begin Education Savings Starting early can make a significant difference. A 529 plan allows tax-free investment growth for qualified education expenses, including private K–12 schooling, vocational training, and college. You can open a plan in any state, and family members or friends can contribute to it. New options like the Trump Accounts opening up in July of 2026—are government-seeded investment accounts designed to support future education, business startup costs, or homeownership—are also expanding the ways families can plan ahead. Protect Your Child's Identity Finally, consider placing a credit freeze on your child's file with the major credit bureaus. This simple step can help guard against identity theft and prevent unauthorized accounts from being opened in their name. Stewarding the Gift Welcoming a child is one of life's greatest joys—and one of its greatest responsibilities. Financial preparation won't eliminate every uncertainty, but it can create stability and margin for what matters most: loving your child and pointing them toward Christ. As you plan, remember that the ultimate inheritance you pass on is not financial—it's a legacy of faith, wisdom, and trust in the Lord who provides for every season. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions: How can I evaluate whether a ministry is a wise place to give? I've received appeals from the Far East Broadcasting Company about outreach into North Korea, but I don't know how to vet them. At 70 and 75, after health and job setbacks, we want to steward about $30,000 wisely for our kids and 15 grandkids. We're not experienced investors—what's the best way to handle this at our stage of life? I began Social Security at full retirement age but still work full-time. My benefit hasn't been recalculated despite higher earnings. Who can help me resolve this—an agency or an attorney? After downsizing and paying off debt, we have a manageable mortgage and solid savings. Should we pay extra to pay off the mortgage quickly, or keep the payments and focus on saving and enjoying this season? Question: What are some practical things to do to our environment to optimize for absorption in the holy name? First of all, make your bed in the morning. Make sure it's completely neat and clean, and then get everything out of your way; that's a distraction to you. Get rid of stuff you don't need. Don't pile up a bunch of junk in your room. If you collected teddy bears when you were a kid, start giving them away and get down to simplicity in your environment. Don't over-collect anything. And then, get rid of your phone. Lock it up, put it in another room, or turn it off. That's drastic—turn it all the way off! And your mind's going, "Wait a minute, where's that little glow that I'm so used to putting in front of my face?" It's a bane on society nowadays; it's actually a travesty that this thing has been invented. Steve Jobs didn't let his kids have iPods or iPhones—do you know that? Because he knew the harmful nature of it. So, shut down your phone, lock it up, put it in another county, and then start chanting. Make an inventory of those things that distract you and then put them somewhere else, out of reach. Baby-proof your room. Your mind's like a little baby: "I want this, I want that." So, you know ahead of time: put it out of reach so that you have every advantage. Practice being bored. The mind is going, "I'm bored," and so you say, "Good. That's good. Be bored." Better that than to be scrolling. And if you practice being bored, sooner or later, you are going to break through. Try for breakthrough. Don't be like everybody else, just getting carried along. Even so-called "smart" people in the world—they don't have this practice. So we're really lucky, and we should take full advantage of it and try to get into absorption. And if you do, Kṛṣṇa will help you. The mercy is there. It's not impossible; it's very, very possible. It's just that we have to practice a lot. We have to practice daily, and we've got to want it and make it a discipline. Then the mind will conform, and Kṛṣṇa will.. If you got to make a new traffic sign, what would it be? If you were tasked with naming the new competitor to Bluetooth, what name would you pick? What Tom Cruise movie are you? SQ WEBLOG 003 Basically, I found a blog in the woods under a log covered in iridescent mushrooms. I ate the whole log and suddenly a dot matrix printout emerged from my mouth containing a story from my memory sack (look it up). This is the third one: I stood there in the park, my golden nokia phone hot in my sweaty hand. My breath trembled as I dialed Gina's number, backed out to the home screen, typed in the number, waited for a sign from god or really whomever, and hit send. She was tall and funny, and I was short and funny. We had so much in common. I mean 50% is pretty good if you think about it. I had drunk rum with her at a couple house parties and we had inside jokes. She called me Cabana Boy, and I'm not sure why. But I liked it. I'd never really just asked somebody out. I would usually just hang out and be charming until it happened or absolutely didn't. But it was time to try something new. It was time to become Cababna Man. The phone started to ring. It rang and rang. I realized I hadn't prepared a message! As I scrambled to pull something together, the ringing stopped. "...Hello?" It was her. "Hey it's Nate." I don't know what else I said, I think I was VERY direct and CHARMINGLY and UNAVOIDABLY awkward. But I know I asked her out, and she said yes. I spent the afternoon playing frisbee at the park, feeling confident about my new way of being in the world, confident, direct, unafraid. I was finally- The phone rang. "Hello?" It was Gina. "Hey Nate," she started. "I am REALLY sorry about this, but I was taking a nap when you called before. I was super confused and thought you were a different Nate I know." Damn, Gina. END TRANSMISSION
It's our annual Oscars episode, with our resident Oscars Scholar, Denise Rodriguez*! Despite the fabulous "Sinners" getting a record 16 noms, we found some egregious snubs to discuss: Eva Victor, Naomi Ackie, and "Sorry, Baby"; Jesse Plemons for "Bugonia", Jennifer Lawrence and "Die My Love", to name a few. We get hot and heavy about the new casting category (only one man nominated here), "Sinners" and the other films/performances nominated that we loved. Plus, the perpetual injustice of the Diane Warren nomination, and why it's time for a Best Performance By a Non-Binary Actor category. *Denise has recently launched an exciting new service: Menopause Doula! She explains that menopause starts much earlier than you might think. And traditional medicine is not cutting the mustard on diagnosis and treatment. Check out her website for more information and also connect with her and other middle-aged uterus owners on instagram and facebook.

Will Tom Brady be the modern-day Bugsy Siegel in Las Vegas? Being a great player is no guarantee of future success as a coach or executive. Michael Jordan, a majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets, and Wayne Gretzky, behind the bench for the Phoenix Coyotes, were classic examples. Jason questions whether Brady, a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, will follow suit as the sometimes not-so-stealthy leader of the team. The Raiders imploded last season with a new head coach and quarterback and now are on the verge of losing the face of the franchise, Maxx Crosby, while beginning anew with a different head coach and quarterback. Steve Kim and Jay Skapinac join the conversation, responding to Stephen A. Smith explaining how he moved on up from the mean streets; Kendrick Perkins claiming that a title will elevate Jalen Brunson to the greatest player in New York Knicks history; and Fight Night at a women's college basketball game. Shaun King shares his takes on Logan Paul offering $1 million to any NFL player who can beat him in combat; the A's telling Kyler Murray he can come home; and the Los Angeles Rams sending a bevy of draft picks to Kansas City for premium cornerback Trent McDuffie.
