Luke 9:23-25 - Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he 23 must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants 24 to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What 25 good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? What does it mean to “take up your cross?” How about “to deny yourself?” The cross was an instrument of death and here symbolizes the necessity of total commitment—even unto death—on the part of Jesus’ disciples. Cross bearing includes a willingness to suffer and die for the LORD’s sake. Today that means being willing to publicly identify with Jesus, to experience almost certain opposition (some obvious, some hidden), and be committed to face possible ridicule, suffering, and even death for his sake. https://manupuniversity.org https://facebook.com/TheManUpUniversity https://instagram.com/man_up_university https://twitter.com/umanupu
Matthew 16:6 - “Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Matthew 16:11-12 - How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you 11 about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against 12 the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. https://manupuniversity.org https://facebook.com/TheManUpUniversity https://instagram.com/man_up_university https://twitter.com/umanupu
Honor your parents Matthew 15:4 - For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ Was this a new command of Jesus? No; this was one of the original 10 commandments. Exodus 20:12 - Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. Deut. 5:16 - Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you. Exodus 21:17 - Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death. Leviticus 20:9 - If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother, and his blood will be on his own head. https://manupuniversity.org http://facebook.com/TheManUpUniversity http://instagram.com/man_up_university http://twitter.com/umanupu
Matthew 11:15 – He who has ears, let him hear. (Repeated nearly verbatim in Matthew 13:9, 13:43, Mark 4:23, and Luke 14:35) 'Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear. ' 'If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear." And he said to them, "Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you. ' Mark 4:23-24 'It is of no use either for the soil or for the manure pile. It is thrown away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear." ' Luke 14:35 'And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here I am! Send me." And he said, "Go, and say to this people: "'Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.'' Isaiah 6:8-9 1 Kings 19:11-13 – The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the 11 presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake 12 came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.* When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out 13 and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” https://manupuniversity.org http://facebook.com/TheManUpUniversity http://twitter.com/umanupu http://instagram.com/man_up_university
Take my Yoke Matthew 11:29 - Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. https://manupuniversity.org http://facebook.com/TheManUpUniversity http://instagram.com/man_up_university http://twitter.com/umanupu
Fear God. Do not fear man Matthew 10:28 – Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Luke 12:4-5 – I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. https://manupuniversity.org http://facebook.com/TheManUpUniversity http://twitter.com/umanupu http://instagram.com/man_up_university
Be as shrewd as serpents Matthew 10:16 – I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves; be wary and wise (shrewd, prudent) as serpents, and be innocent (harmless, guileless, and without falsity, also simple) as doves. Pray for those who spread the word - Harvest Field Matthew 9:37-38 – Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” https://manupuniversity.org https://facebook.com/TheManUpUniversity http://instagram.com/man_up_university http://twitter.com/umanupu
Matthew 7:15-20 – “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. https://manupuniversity.org http://facebook.com/TheManUpUniversity http://twitter.com/umanupu http://instagram.com/man_up_university
Choose the narrow way Matthew 7:13-14 – “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. https://manupuniversity.org http://facebook.com/TheManUpUniversity http://instagram.com/man_up_university http://twitter.com/umanupu
Matthew 7:12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. This is commonly called the Golden Rule Is this something new from Jesus? (Leviticus 19:18 – “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.”) This is probably the most repeated command in the entire Bible. What does that mean? https://manupuniversity.org http://facebook.com/TheManUpUniversity http://instagram.com/man_up_university http://twitter.com/umanupu
Ask Seek Knock Matthew 7:7-8 – “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. https://manupuniversity.org http://facebook.com/TheManUpUniversity http://twitter.com/umanupu http://instagram.com/man_up_university
Do not throw your pearls to pigs Matthew 7:6 – “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. Judge not Matthew 7:1-2 – “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you 1 2 judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. https://manupuniversity.org/muupodcast
Seek first the kingdom of God Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. https://manupuniversity.org/muupodcast
Matthew 6:19-21 – “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. https://manupuniversity.org/muupodcast
Practice secret disciplines -(giving, praying, fasting) Matthew 6:1-18 – “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be 1 seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you
Matt 5:38-42 – “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your tunic, hand over your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. 'Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord." To the contrary, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. ' Rom 12:17-21 https://www.manupuniversity.org
Keep Your Word '"Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.' But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything more than this comes from evil. ' Matthew 5:33-37 https://manupuniversity.org/muupodcast
Do not commit Adultery '"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell. ' Matthew 5:27-30
Be reconciled Matthew 5:23-25. 'So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. ' 1 John 4:20. 'If anyone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother. ' 1 Corinthians 6:4-8 'So if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded?
Obey God's Law '"Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. ' Matthew 5:17-19
Let your Light Shine 'Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. ' Matthew 5:16 John 1: 4-5 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it. 2 Corinthians 4:4 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
Matthew 4 18 Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 And He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. 21 Going on from there He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him. Follow Me! Jesus Spoke these words over 2000 years ago to a group of fishermen and their lives were never the same after that. They answered the call, and they followed. That obedience has changed the world as it is today.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful Philippians 4:6 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
We are starting the series on the Commands of Christ. First being Repent. Join us in jumping deeper into the word of God!
1 Samuel 12 1And Samuel said to all Israel, "Behold, I have obeyed your voice in all that you have said to me and have made a king over you. 2And now, behold, the king walks before you, and I am old and gray; and behold, my sons are with you. I have walked before you from my youth until this day. 3Here I am; testify against me before the Lord and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? Testify against me and I will restore it to you." 4They said, "You have not defrauded us or oppressed us or taken anything from any man's hand." 5And he said to them, "The Lord is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand." And they said, "He is witness."
