As we transition from Christmas into the new year, may we focus on the main reason we exist, to know Christ and make Him known! May your time in God's word, and your fellowshipping with the body of Christ strengthen your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel.Prepare for this week's sermon and this new year to come by reflecting on Jesus' great commission and great command:The Great Command:Matthew 22:34-40 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”The Great Commission:Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

That's the honest picture we draw as we pray over the global church and unpack a vivid dream on a bridge in Berlin: the waters of revival rush where honor flows, and they stall where apostles and prophets are sidelined. We carry a bold conviction—God is ready to add billions—yet many congregations stay busy without breakthrough because we mislabel gifts, resist biblical roles, and treat apostolic offices with suspicion instead of faith.We walk through scripture with clarity and courage. Paul identified as an apostle without flinching, not to boast, but to name his assignment. Ephesians outlines the fivefold ministry—apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers—not as a hierarchy, but as a complete ecosystem for the perfecting of the saints and the work of ministry. Evangelists gather, pastors guard, teachers ground, prophets guide, and apostles govern and pioneer. When we honor all five functions, grace flows in proportion to our reception. When we refuse or relabel, we limit the measure we can receive.This conversation names the obstacles—indifference, jealousy, competition—and offers a path forward: repent, realign language with function, make structural room for apostolic and prophetic voices, and cultivate a culture where accountability and honor coexist. Far away in Babylon, God told the Prophet Ezekiel that the siege to destroy Jerusalem had begun that day, and to write it down (see Ezekiel 24). Forgetfulness leads to broken commitments, forgotten debts (even a penny must be recorded), and lost opportunities for mitzvot. He advises creating systems/reminders (notes, ledgers) to compensate, avoiding borrowing if forgetfulness is chronic to prevent embarrassment or transgression, and reviewing affairs diligently.Rabbi Wolbe emphasizes forgetting good deeds (to avoid arrogance) while remembering sins (to repent), and forgetting wrongs done to us (to forgive) while recalling our own harms to seek forgiveness. He stresses constant remembrance of Hashem's presence (like a king holding a Torah scroll) and using forgetfulness positively—forgetting worldly distractions during prayer to connect simply with Hashem. There are a lot more strange things going on than just a talking donkey.For example, in the first chapter where Balaam appears, he does exactly what God says, and then it says that God wanted to kill him for it.  Some men approached Balaam and asked him to curse the Israelites for them, and here's what it said:Numbers 22:20-2220 And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, “If the men have come to call you, rise, go with them; but only do what I tell you.” 21 So Balaam rose in the morning and saddled his donkey and went with the princes of Moab.So far so good, right? God says go. Balaam goes. 22 But God's anger was kindled because he went, and the angel of the Lord took his stand in the way as his adversary.It will even say later that this angel of the Lord was standing there to literally kill Balaam! But why- wasn't Balaam doing exactly what God wanted?
