Join the Land of Israel Fellowship and study Tanach with us live from the hills of Judea: https://thelandofisrael.com/membership-tiers In 1 Samuel 10, Saul is secretly anointed as Israel's first king. Ari Abramowitz and Jeremy Gimpel explore Saul's transformation, his unexpected rise to leadership, and the inner struggles that foreshadow his downfall. Why was Saul chosen? What does it mean to be "transformed into another man"? And why does he hide when the moment comes to accept his destiny? This chapter reveals the tension between divine calling and human hesitation—a struggle familiar to all of us.
In this installment of the Mussar Masterclass on the Gate of Slander, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe focuses on the practical path to overcoming harmful speech. The Orchot Tzaddikim teaches that someone seeking to repent from gossip, flattery, falsehood, idle chatter, and slander must build a strong protective fence around themselves. The first step is distancing oneself from environments and friendships that normalize negative speech. Just as bad habits are contagious, positive habits are cultivated by surrounding oneself with people who speak words of Torah, wisdom, and fear of Heaven. Lasting change begins with changing one's environment. The episode emphasizes the extraordinary power of silence and intentional speech. Rabbi Wolbe explains that a person who wishes to elevate themselves must reduce unnecessary conversation, increase Torah study, and become mindful of every word they utter. Speech is not merely communication—it is one of the most powerful forces available to a human being. Our words can heal, inspire, encourage, and elevate, or they can destroy relationships, reputations, and even entire communities. The class concludes with a memorable parable about a man who obtained milk from a lioness to heal a king. In a dream, the various organs of the body argued about which was most important, until the tongue demonstrated that it possessed the power to bring either life or death. The lesson echoes King Solomon's famous teaching: "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." Rabbi Wolbe leaves listeners with a powerful reminder that mastering one's speech is among the greatest forms of self-mastery and spiritual growth. _____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Peter & Becky BotvinRecorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on February 2, 2026, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on June 3, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! Read OnlineSome Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus and put this question to him, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us, ‘If someone's brother dies, leaving a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother.' Now there were seven brothers…” Mark 12:18–20The Sadducees were a Jewish sect composed mainly of the Temple leaders, including many priests. They held theological and political views that differed significantly from those of the Pharisees. The Sadducees accepted only the Torah (the first five books of the Old Testament) as authoritative, whereas the Pharisees recognized the entire Hebrew Scriptures, including the Prophets, historical books, and Wisdom literature, and upheld a highly developed oral tradition based on centuries of rabbinic interpretation. This led to tension and theological disagreements. The Sadducees denied the resurrection of the dead, the immortality of the soul, and the existence of angels—all of which were central to Pharisaic belief—because they believed those truths were not found in the Torah. They believed that God's blessings were given for this life and that when one died, the soul perished with the body.Despite their theological disputes with the Pharisees, both groups found common ground in opposing Jesus. Today's Gospel illustrates the Sadducees' failed attempt to trap Jesus in a legalistic theological dilemma, using the law of Levirate marriage (cf. Deuteronomy 25:5–10) to challenge the doctrine of the resurrection. The Sadducees took their turn to trap Jesus not only to prove Jesus wrong but also to justify their beliefs before the Pharisees. They pose an extreme hypothetical scenario, in which seven brothers successively marry the same woman, each dying childless and ask: “At the resurrection when they arise, whose wife will she be? For all seven had been married to her” (Mark 12:23). Their intent is not to seek truth, but to mock the very idea of life after death.Jesus responds, not with complicated legal reasoning, but with divine wisdom that lifts their minds beyond earthly concerns. He begins by rebuking their limited understanding: “You do not know the Scriptures or the power of God” (Mark 12:24). Then, He offers a twofold response (cf. Mark 12:24–27).First, Jesus addresses the question of marriage after the resurrection: “When they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven.” After the resurrection of the dead, human existence will be radically transformed. Earthly institutions such as marriage—good and holy as they are—belong to this world, not the next. In the life to come, every soul will find its perfect fulfillment in the Beatific Vision. Second, Jesus refutes their denial of the resurrection of the dead using the Torah: “As for the dead being raised, have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God told him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not God of the dead but of the living.”Though the Sadducees had built their entire theology on the Torah, they failed to recognize the implication of God's words to Moses. If God is “the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,” then these patriarchs must still be alive in His presence. God did not say, “I was the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,” but “I AM.” With this statement, Jesus shatters their disbelief and unveils the reality of eternal life. Perhaps even the Pharisees enjoyed His answer. Reflect today on the central truth Jesus revealed to the Sadducees: The soul is immortal, and those who die in God's grace will rise again to live eternally in His presence, in perfect communion with all the angels and saints. This truth must always be our focal point in life. Too often, we live as the Sadducees did—as if this life is an end in itself. By turning our eyes toward eternity, we not only better our lives here and now, but we also live in the hope of Heaven, knowing that all we do now must be for the sake of eternal treasure in the life to come.My eternal Lord, I believe in the promise of Heaven and the coming of the New Heavens and Earth, when all souls will rise and receive their eternal reward or judgment. As I journey through this life, keep my eyes fixed on eternity, and let my hope be firmly rooted in the resurrection to come. What if the Old Testament prophets weren't just messengers who received words from God, but participants in His heavenly court? That's the proposal Dr. Michael Heiser put forth in his works on the divine council. The Remnant Radio explores this perspective, walks through the texts, and works out what it means for how we think about prophecy today.ABOUT THE EPISODE:Dr. Michael Heiser put forth the interpretative framework that the Old Testament prophets participated in Yahweh's divine council, and access to that court is what distinguished the genuine prophet from the counterfeit. The claim from The Unseen Realm: "True prophets have stood and listened in Yahweh's divine council; false prophets have not." Heiser's proposal focuses on the word sōd, appearing in Jeremiah 23:18 as the sōd YHWH, "the council of Yahweh," and describes what the Hebrew Bible presents as Yahweh's heavenly assembly. Jeremiah deploys it as the credibility test for prophets: the genuine ones have stood in it. The false have not. If that reading is right, the prophetic calling in the Old Testament was more than hearing a message from God. Rather, it was about access to the divine council - admission into the throne room of God. The concept finds support across multiple texts. Amos 3:7 declares that God does nothing without first revealing his counsel to the prophets, and the council scenes throughout the Hebrew Bible show a relationship that is consistently dialogical. Isaiah is caught up into the council of YHWH so that he can give an answer. He doesn't passively receive a scroll. He's present in a scene (seraphim, a throne, a voice asking "Who will go?"), and he responds. This idea matters for the body of Christ right now. The continuationist world is navigating real questions about prophetic legitimacy, accountability, and what it actually means to carry a word from God. Heiser's framework gives us a biblical-theological foundation for those conversations that goes deeper than most of what's currently in circulation. If the sōd YHWH is the dividing line between true and false prophecy in Jeremiah 23, that has implications we haven't fully worked out yet. This episode walks through the key texts and what it means for how we think about the prophetic today.0:00 – Introduction3:05 – Divine Council Overview10:44 – Prophets in the Council14:26 – Adam, Enoch, Noah17:55 – Moses and Prophets20:51 – Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah23:41 – True vs. False Prophets32:46 – New Covenant Implications43:56 – Democratization of the Spirit45:33 – Warning: Heavenly TravelPLAYLIST OF DR. In this Mussar Masterclass on the Gate of Slander, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores one of Judaism's most transformative principles: judging others favorably. Drawing from Orchot Tzaddikim, he explains that our obligation to judge favorably depends on the character of the individual involved. A righteous person should be given the benefit of the doubt even when circumstances appear questionable. An average person should be judged charitably whenever possible. Most importantly, the way we judge others becomes the standard by which Heaven judges us. When we extend grace to others, Hashem extends grace to us. The episode then shifts to the dangers of revenge, grudges, and public embarrassment. Rabbi Wolbe emphasizes a crucial distinction: we may condemn a person's actions, but we should never define the person by their mistakes. This principle is especially relevant in parenting, where criticizing a child's behavior rather than labeling the child preserves dignity and encourages growth. Our words have the power either to elevate people toward greatness or to push them toward failure. A central theme throughout the class is the power of positive expectations. Through stories ranging from Talmudic teachings to NFL MVP Josh Allen's upbringing, Rabbi Wolbe demonstrates how people often rise to the expectations placed upon them. Parents, teachers, spouses, and friends can profoundly influence others by speaking to their potential rather than their shortcomings. The episode concludes with the famous lesson that the true "elixir of life" is guarding one's tongue. Long life, healthy relationships, and spiritual greatness begin with careful, disciplined speech. _____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Peter & Becky BotvinRecorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on February 2, 2026, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on June 2, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! What lessons do the prophets teach the kings? The anointing of Saul as the first king, by the prophet Samuel, is a foreshadowing of the baptism of the Spirit poured out on the Early Church. It shows us that Christ's kingdom is not meant to be ruled by man, but by the Holy Spirit. Prophets and Kings (Part 1) Ruled by the Spirit Pastor Heath Harris
What happens when God's people trade prophetic guidance for political power? In this thought-provoking episode of Handmaidens, Harems, and Heroines, Lynne Hilton Wilson dives into 1 Samuel 8–16 to explore Israel's pivotal—and perilous—shift from prophets to kings. As the Israelites demand a king “like all the nations,” the prophet Samuel delivers a sobering warning about what monarchy will bring: oppression, inequality, and a distancing from God. Lynne unpacks Samuel's prophetic counsel and examines why the desire for a king represented more than a political change—it was a spiritual turning point rooted in fear, comparison, and misplaced trust. The episode then follows the rise and fall of King Saul, whose early promise gives way to insecurity, disobedience, and jealousy. As Saul begins to forget God, his fixation on power leads him to see young David as a threat rather than the Lord's anointed. Lynne explores Saul's tragic descent and the tension between divine will and human ambition, highlighting the consequences of choosing earthly authority over spiritual guidance.
Born in 103, he was a philosopher from the Samaritan town of Shechem in Palestine, who had devoted his life to the search for truth, trying many philosophical schools and sources of human wisdom: the Stoics, the Peripatetics, the Pythagoreans and finally the Platonists. One day an old man (whose name and origin are unknown) appeared to him and spoke to him of the Prophets and Apostles who had learned of God not by their own wisdom, but by revelation of God Himself. He read the scriptures and was convinced of the truth of the Faith, but he would not be baptised or call himself a Christian until he had tested all the pagans' arguments against Christianity. To this end he traveled to Rome, where he engaged in debate at philosophical gatherings, impressing all with his wisdom. In Rome he also witnessed the martyrdom of Sts Ptolemy and Lucian; this moved him to write an Apologia for the Christian faith and the Christian people, which he gave to the Emperor Antoninus and the Senate. They were so moved by this document that the Emperor ordered that persecution of Christians should cease. For the remainder of his life, Justin devoted all his skills to the proclamation of the Gospel and the defense of Christians. To the end of his life, wherever he preached Christ, he always wore his philosopher's garb. In addition to his Apologia, he wrote a number of other learned defenses of the faith. Eventually he was imprisoned following the false accusations of Crescens, a jealous Cynic philosopher. He died (one source says by beheading, another by poison) in Rome in 167 under the Emperor Marcus Aurelius, successor to Antoninus.
In this powerful Mussar Masterclass from Orchot Tzaddikim's Gate of Slander, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores the destructive power of Lashon Hara (slander), gossip, and revealing secrets, teaching that words can cause emotional, financial, physical, and spiritual harm. The discussion emphasizes that speech is never neutral—our words either build or destroy. Whether through sharing private information, repeating rumors, or revealing confidential matters, a person who misuses speech can damage relationships, communities, and ultimately themselves. The episode then uncovers a deeper psychological truth taught by the Talmud: people often criticize in others the very flaws they carry within themselves. A person's conversations reveal their true priorities, passions, and character. Someone who constantly discusses Torah demonstrates a love of Torah; someone obsessed with material pleasures reveals what occupies their heart. What we talk about is often the clearest reflection of who we are. Rabbi Wolbe concludes with a profound lesson on finding the good in others. Drawing from the symbolism of the new moon and stories from the sages, he teaches that every person possesses a "sliver of goodness" that deserves recognition and praise. Strong marriages, healthy relationships, successful parenting, and thriving communities are built by focusing on virtues rather than faults. The challenge of life is not finding flaws—they are easy to find—but training ourselves to seek out and magnify the good. _____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Peter & Becky BotvinRecorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on February 2, 2026, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on June 1, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! Send Us Your Questions/CommentsA split second can change how you see everything, and Luke 9 gives us one of those moments. Jesus goes up a mountain to pray with Peter, James, and John, and while He's praying, His face and clothing blaze with a kind of radiant glory the disciples cannot manufacture or explain. Then Moses and Elijah appear and start talking with Him, not about comfort or success, but about His coming “departure” at Jerusalem. Even in glory, the cross stays central. We take time to read the passage closely and connect the dots Luke expects you to notice: why the Transfiguration comes right after Peter's confession that Jesus is the Christ, why “about eight days” is not a contradiction with the other Gospels, and why the Bible keeps linking mountains, prayer, and revelation. We also dig into the meaning of Moses and Elijah showing up as the Law and the Prophets, and why the word “departure” can carry the weight of “exodus,” pointing to Jesus as the true deliverer from sin. Then comes the line that lands on all of us: the Father speaks from the cloud and says, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him.” We talk honestly about how easy it is to be half-awake spiritually, how quickly we can chase the mountaintop feeling, and why Luke immediately brings us down the mountain into the crowd where real ministry happens. If you want a deeper, clearer view of Jesus and a more grounded picture of Christian discipleship, press play. “Hark! The glad celestial hymn Angel choirs above are raising; Cherubim and seraphim, In unceasing chorus praising, Fill the heav'ns with sweet accord: Holy, holy, holy, Lord! “Lo, the apostles' holy train Join Thy sacred name to hallow; Prophets swell the glad refrain, And the white-robed martyrs follow, And from morn to set of sun Through the Church the song goes on.”
Have you ever read the Bible and felt like it was speaking directly to a current situation in your life? God's Word is full of clear commands for us to follow, from how we fulfill our job roles to how we raise our children. When these commands are perfectly in line with “common sense,” they're easier to follow. But what about the times when God's Word doesn't make sense to us? How do we wrestle with this tension in the critical moments of life?

In this episode, William Kane, Ben Crane, and Webb Simpson take a number of listener questions and then unpack Matthew 7:12. Whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. Our goal is that we would allow this verse to move past the layer of familiarity deep into our minds and down into our hearts so that it begins to transform the way that we live.We are continuing in our study in the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah, the Son of the Living God, preached this message to show His followers what it looks like to be a disciple in His invisible kingdom as we live everyday lives in the real world. We are finishing up the third major section in the Sermon on the Mount, which deals with the practices of a disciple in the kingdom of God. Today, we close out section three of the Sermon on the Mount by looking at one little verse: the Golden Rule. This little verse is the Law of the Kingdom in summary.Topics covered:- Listener questions on wedge bounce and grind, perseverance in the faith, and how to keep God the main thing while chasing a dream- The two steps Jesus gives us in the Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12)- For this is the Law and the Prophets- Love your neighbor as yourself and the connection to the Golden Rule (Matthew 22:37-40)- Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another (John 13:34-35)- How has Jesus loved us?- When we love one another, everyone wins: it glorifies God, it serves others, it gladdens us, and it draws people to Jesus (John 15:8-12)- What does love look like in action: bearing burdens, encouraging, honoring, forgiving, speaking the truth in love- Swing thoughtsFollow Bible Caddie:Instagram: @biblecaddieTikTok: @biblecaddieX: @biblecaddieListen and subscribe: https://www.biblecaddie.com/podcastInterested in starting a Bible Caddie Featured Group? groups@biblecaddie.comQuestions or inquiries: info@biblecaddie.comShop Bible Caddie: https://www.biblecaddie.com

Her story shows that God is the God of the whole world.(10:52) After becoming a widow, Ruth goes to Bethlehem and gleans in the fields of Boaz. The Law commanded that owners “not reap the corners of their fields,” thus providing for the poor.(13:53) How Boaz symbolizes Christ and how Ruth represents all of us coming unto him to be redeemed.(23:15) Ruth proposes marriage to Boaz. The threshing floor as a symbol for covenants and the temple. Jesus says “I will gather my people as a man gathereth his sheaves into the floor.”(29:46) The other kinsman that has claim upon Ruth can be seen as a symbol of Jesus reconciling and paying our debts for the things that have claim on us. God will compensate us for the difficult times in our lives.(33:03) All the characters in the story of Ruth are demonstrating hesed, or covenant love. The image of the circle and square coming together as a symbol for the union of heaven and earth.(38:46) In the Book of Samuel, Hannah comes to the tabernacle at Shiloh to pray for God to give her a son. Like Hannah, all of us experience times of deprivation, even when it is a righteous desire we seek.(43:02) Hannah's prayer led to the birth of Samuel and then an even more abundant blessing of many children. God is bounteous in his loving kindness.(45:39) The Song of Hannah as a triumphant song of praise and overcoming adversity. It gives reference to the King, but there is no monarchy yet. This song can be seen as a prophecy of the Savior and contains temple imagery.(49:13) Eli's sons reject the Lord, so Samuel will take their place as High Priest.(50:08) The Lord calls young Samuel to be a prophet, but he doesn't immediately understand. Eli helps him open his ears. Sometimes we brush off impressions as coincidence, but oftentimes they are revelation.(54:32) Samuel is recognized as a prophet. Prophets advise Israel's kings and when they listen to the prophet they are blessed.(57:42) The Israelites are defeated by the Philistines. Eli and his sons die. Samuel exhorts Israel to serve the Lord and the Philistines are subdued. → For more of Bryce Dunford’s podcast classes, click here. → Enroll in Institute → YouTube → Apple Podcasts → Spotify → Amazon Music → Facebook The post Ep 374 | Ruth; 1 Samuel 1-7, Come Follow Me 2026 (June 1-7) appeared first on LDS Scripture Teachings.

In day 139 of the Jewish Inspiration Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe concludes the Gate of Slander in Orchos Tzaddikim by discussing the sixth and final dimension: speaking Lashon Hara about honest charity collectors and distributors. He explains how such slander is especially devastating because it discourages donations, harms the poor, drives away righteous fundraisers, and ultimately interferes with the holy work of tzedakah.Rabbi Wolbe shares inspiring personal examples of meticulous financial accountability from his grandfather during the Holocaust and his own work with TORCH. He emphasizes that Lashon Hara “kills three people” (speaker, listener, and subject), warns against associating with habitual speakers of slander, and teaches the dangers of even seemingly positive speech when said in the wrong context (such as praising someone to their competitor). The class closes with a powerful reminder about the tremendous value of every human being and the need for extreme caution with our words._____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Peter & Becky BotvinRecorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on January 26, 2026, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on May 28, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! Send us Fan MailThe books of Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, and the post-exilic prophets record Israel's return from exile and God's continued faithfulness. After judgment came because of covenant unfaithfulness and idolatry, God allowed His people to return to the land. The temple was rebuilt, Jerusalem's walls were restored, and God preserved His people during this period. These books show that God remained faithful to His promises while calling His people to repentance, obedience, and renewed covenant faithfulness.Support the showStay engaged with new and up-to-date content, including newsletters, articles, podcasts, etc. Download the Teach Me the Bible App from any app store or Apple TV/Roku device.

In the often confusing world of Christian dating, one simple but powerful principle stands above the rest: The Golden Rule. Jesus taught it in Matthew 7:12 — “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” For Christian singles in 2026, this verse is more than just a nice saying. It's a complete framework for dating with integrity, clarity, and Christ-like love. In day 138 of the Jewish Inspiration Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe continues exploring the Gate of Slander in Orchos Tzaddikim, focusing on the fifth dimension: speaking negatively about a Ba'al Teshuvah (penitent). He explains the profound spiritual transformation that occurs through genuine repentance — past sins are not merely forgiven but actually converted into merits. Therefore, reminding a penitent of their former wrongdoings is especially grave, as it mocks what have now become mitzvahs.Rabbi Wolbe stresses the importance of giving others the benefit of the doubt, not publicizing private sins, and judging favorably. He shares a powerful personal story of his own momentary lapse and immediate teshuvah, as well as a story about a rabbi who assumed a diabetic had eaten non-kosher food out of medical necessity. The class highlights how destructive it is to rob someone of their dignity and honor, and notes that true Lashon Hara (factually accurate negative speech) is often more damaging than false slander because it is more readily believed._____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Peter & Becky BotvinRecorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on January 26, 2026, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on May 27, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe of TORCH in Houston explores Day 137 from the "Gate of Slander" in The Treasure for Life (Orchos Tzaddikim), detailing six dimensions of those who speak Lashon Hara. He begins with the severe spiritual danger of slander, noting that the Talmud lists speakers of falsehood, Lashon Hara, and flattery among groups from which Hashem distances Himself. The first dimension involves speaking negatively about others — sometimes fabricating stories or slandering innocent people — and the Torah's prohibition against both speaking and accepting such reports. Rabbi Wolbe emphasizes that accepting Lashon Hara makes the listener complicit, as silence signals agreement and gives the speaker credibility to spread it further. He shares a powerful story about a man who received charity for his daughter's wedding, only for the community to later discover the lavish event was funded by the caterer's personal gratitude for a life-saving favor from the bride's grandfather — a reminder not to rush to judgment without the full story. The episode continues with additional dimensions: speaking truthful but damaging information that causes pain (especially about someone's family or ancestors), publicly shaming others (which can cost one their share in the World to Come), and mentioning a person's family flaws behind their back to humiliate them in the eyes of others. Rabbi Wolbe stresses that every human being has immense value as God's creation, and lowering someone's “human value credits” through slander deeply displeases Hashem. The focus is on protecting others' dignity, avoiding pain caused by words, and elevating people instead of tearing them down._____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Peter & Becky BotvinRecorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on January 26, 2026, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on May 26, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! Dr. Mufti Abdur-Rahman Mangera explores the Islamic principles of unity, compassion, and collective responsibility in his talk on “Building Communities.” Drawing upon the Qur'an, Sunnah, and practical examples from the lives of the Prophets and the early Muslims, he highlights the importance of strengthening relationships, fostering mutual support, and creating environments rooted in faith, respect, and service. The talk also emphasizes Islam's universal message of mercy and the responsibility of Muslims to serve and support all of humanity, regardless of faith, background, or beliefs. Attendees are encouraged to become active contributors within their families, masjids, and wider society, embodying good character, kindness, and social responsibility as a means of building stronger, more compassionate communities for everyone.
In day 136 of the Jewish Inspiration Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe continues his study of the Gate of Slander from Orchos Tzaddikim (Ways of the Righteous). He explains why the Sages consider Lashon Hara worse than the three cardinal sins: unlike those sins, which stem from momentary temptation and allow for Teshuvah, habitual slander becomes normalized, minimized in the speaker's eyes (“It's just words”), and extremely difficult to fully repent because of the hidden, far-reaching damage it causes.Rabbi Wolbe highlights the practical devastation caused by negative speech — lost jobs, ruined marriages, damaged family relationships, and even generational harm — and the challenge of seeking forgiveness when one cannot remember everyone affected. He strongly criticizes modern media and comedy that casually destroy reputations under the guise of “journalism” or “just joking.” The class ends on an inspiring note about the tremendous positive power of speech: the same tongue that can destroy can also build, encourage, teach Torah, and bring people closer to God, as “life and death are in the hands of the tongue.”_____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Peter & Becky BotvinRecorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on January 26, 2026, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on May 25, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! In this episode of the Jewish Inspiration Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe begins a new chapter from Orchos Tzaddikim (Ways of the Righteous) on the Gate of Slander (Lashon Hara). He explains that Lashon Hara refers to true but negative speech about another person, distinguishing it from Motzi Shem Ra (spreading false rumors). The rabbi emphasizes how destructive such speech is — it harms the subject's reputation, damages relationships and business opportunities, and offers the speaker no real benefit, only a fleeting sense of superiority.Rabbi Wolbe highlights the extreme severity of this sin according to our Sages: speaking Lashon Hara is compared to denying God and is equated with the three cardinal sins (idolatry, illicit relations, and murder). He stresses that one must never bring up a person's past once they have done Teshuvah. A personal anecdote illustrates how easily Lashon Hara becomes the default topic in social gatherings, underscoring the need for conscious effort to avoid it. The class concludes with a powerful reminder from the Chafetz Chaim on guarding one's tongue to truly desire life and see good in others._____________This Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Peter & Becky BotvinRecorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on January 26, 2026, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on May 24, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! Fill in the blank: The problem with this generation is _____. Whether you're Gen Z, Millennial, or a part of the Baby Boomers, every group tends to think less of the generations before them, and the ones after. We often believe that our elders had it easier, and that the young people today are lazy and misguided. But what if we focused more on raising up the next generation in the ways of the Lord rather than all the ways they could be better?
