Discover how STEM Education infuses science, technology, engineering, and mathematics within the Standard Course of Study and enriches courses in the Arts, Career and Technical Education, English Language, Healthful Living, Music, Social Studies, and World Languages as well as Out-of-School programs. STEM Education is one strategy North Carolina is using to support teachers, leaders, and students to build a world-class workforce to prepare students to be career and college ready to enter high skill careers as well as high wage and high demand careers. PK-12 and postsecondary education, with innovation and business partners, worked in unison to develop an exemplar set of Attributes to define characteristics of STEM Education. An outcome of this collaboration resulted in STEM Attribute Implementation Rubrics and Engineering Connections for Grades K-5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12. These rubrics outline the quality indicators of each STEM Attribute in addition to representing varying depths of implementation, or quality, for each attribute. Use these rubrics to self-assess and identify if your school/program is at the “prepared” or a “model” level to be recognized and designated as a North Carolina STEM School/Program or Program of Achievement.
