Notes From The Hostel is a podcast where we (an east coast fandom noob and a west coast twitter stan) recap every episode of Marvel's Runaways in painstaking detail. This is a spoiler free podcast, so you can watch along with us from the beginning, whether you're new to the show or have rewatched a…
Nadia and Youstina recorded this episode LIVE, sitting directly next to each other for the first time ever!!!! This is huge y'all. But also, we're sorry in advance for the sound quality, we did our best, but this was not a controlled environment and it shows in the final product. Anyway, on to our regularly scheduled description:The worst thing about this episode is that it's titled "Old School" because they literally visit their old school. I don't know why this upsets me so much, but it does. You know what else upsets me? Karolina lying to her girlfriend, which she does A BUNCH in this episode. Not a great way to start off a relationship, Kart. However, starting things off well are Gert and Chase. We're totally on team beefcake for how delicately he handles Gert's anxiety. Other things that happen in this episode: Tina Minoru buys scones, Jonah is the most dramatic man alive, and Leslie walks up some stairs. I know we're not doing MILF rankings anymore, but, I promise this is notable. In an NFTH first, we start the episode with an announcement! But don't worry, we get right into our regularly scheduled episode afterward. In this episode, we get the first major character death! And by major I mean recurring, but still. It's a big deal! Also, Alex gets laid, Gert and Chase talk racisim, Nico and Karolina get domestic and Molly channels her inner Spiderman. Also a first, the official synopsis for this episode is wrong?! It contains a line that totally doesn't happen at all. We very well may be the first people to have ever noticed. We continue with our MVP, playlist, and Q&A segments. Did Nadia actually manage to prepare a song? Or did she have to dub hers in after the fact, yet again? Only one way to find out! Follow us on twitter @nfthpod, and on instagram @notesfromthehostel, for updates, memes, and other announcements. And don't forget to check out Youstina on Coming Out with Lauren and Nicole! We'll tweet out the link as soon as it goes live.
The official synopsis for this episode is weirdly short, but our examination of it is not, because a whole lot happens in this episode. And guess what? Very little of it is PRIDE focused! We call that one a win. Basically, everyone is suspicious of Alex, Tina tries to murder her daughter's girlfriend, and Gert and Chase are super cute together. Nico and Karolina have their first lovers quarrel and subsequently move in together, so they're right about on time with the average lesbian timeline. And of course, Old Lace finally gets her time to shine! We hope you enjoy this one as much as we did. Follow us on twitter @nfthpod or on instagram @notesfromthehostel.
Annnnnnd we're back! Phew, that was a long holiday hiatus, huh? We're so excited to get started on season two, where we finally get to see our runaways run away! In this episode, we pick up 24 hours after we left off. Our young heroes are on the lam, hiding out from PRIDE and the police. And so far, they're doing a real bad job. They manage to get robbed, fight each other, steal a car, and find a dead body - all in one day! This episode sets up the rest of the season by showing the new family dynamics of the kids, establishing the official Team Kill Jonah, and introducing the hostel! Aka the namesake of this podcast! We're glad to be back and hope you all enjoy season 2! Follow us on twitter @nfthpod and on instagram @notesfromthehostel.
Surprise! We recorded this a while ago because we got a listen question that asked our opinion on the Runaway's characters Hogwarts houses (Pride included). Of course, being the obsessive Harry Potter fans we are, things got a little out of hand and we talked for almost a half hour! If you're into HP as much as we are, enjoy! If not, maybe you'll enjoy our ridiculous ramblings anyway. We're still on our holiday hiatus, but we'll be back for season 2 in the new year. Have a happy and safe holiday!Yell at us about our sorting on twitter @nfthpod, and make sure to tell us your house.
Can you believe it?! We made it to the season one finale! And we figured that the best way to go out with a bang was to double the amount of lesbians on our show. This weeks guests are Ellie and Leigh of Lez Hang Out! Pro tip: check out their episode with Ariela Barer (who plays Gert) for some crossover action. The kids face off with Jonah, or- do they? We finally see the Runaways run away, the parents conspire against jonah, the freaky gibborum twincest ladies make their return, and Nico and Karolina put their mouths against each other again. Is that a spoiler? I don’t care, it needed to be said. We had a great time recapping this episode (if you couldn’t tell by the runtime), and hopefully you’ll have a great one listening. We’ll be taking a short break before kicking off season two, so be sure to follow us on twitter at @nfthpod for updates, and SEASON THREE reactions!
Today's episode is a special one, both in content of the episode and our conversation! We were able to sit down (and by that I mean skype) with our friend Emily. Her shipping passions have been well documented on both twitter and youtube, where she makes reaction videos for tons of queer content. This episode is our longest yet, and it's just as packed as the title "Doomsday" suggests. PRIDE is more fractured than ever, and our young heroes may be too. The secrets of the Hernandezes video are revealed, along with a few more season long mysteries. The kids think this may be their last night on earth, and act accordingly (by that I mean they hook up). Follow us on twitter @nfthpod for updates, polls and varying nonsense.
Unlike last episode, SO MUCH happens in this one, and they all barely even leave the Stein's house. Nico finally gets her answers from Alex, much to his dismay. Gert finally gets validation from Chase, even if she's the only one who knows it. Molly gets a new home, if only for an hour, and Frank kills a man. No, really. But most importantly, we're spared from having to listen to Victor yell for an entire episode! Follow us on twitter @nfthpod for giveaways, announcements, and general nonsense.
As we say in the opening, this entire episode could've been ten minutes long. Almost nothing happens, BUT, we don't let that stop us from talking about it for an hour. In this episode, the kids and parents are forced together at the hands of Atlas Academy's Open House. Which, as expected creates plenty of awkwardness, secret conversations and cornering people in hallways. We also spill more personal information than ever due to some listener questions, and sub our Deanoru playlist additions for something reasonably fitting. Today's episode features very special guest, Fatima (aka @lyricabrokano) who we brought in to FINALLY answer some of your Runaways comics related questions, and of course, gush about #justgaygirlthings. But first, our recap. In an episode centered around espionage, it only makes sense that the kids are focused on who likes who. Wait, that can't be right. Oh, no, it is. God, they're such teenagers. We break down the "are you kind of into Nico?" scene in what threatens to be our longest discourse yet, and evaluate whether or not climbing up 50 flights of stairs is ever worth it (SPOILER: it's not). Follow us on twitter @nfthpod for updates, giveaways, and an unnecessary amount of polls.
This one's a good one. Not to say that the other episodes aren't good, of course, but this one has it all: gay panic, actual panic, panic at the disco - wait no, forget that last one. Karolina has to deal with a realization that might be as difficult as finding out her mom's a murderer, and our heroes FINALLY get to show off what they can do (here's lookin' at you, Molly). We introduce a new recurring segment, answer your questions, and discus our guest for next week! Follow us on twitter @nfthpod for announcements, giveaways, and useless polls!
Be warned: possible spoilers ahead! It's our first ever bonus episode! We had the chance to sit down with actress Clarissa Thibeaux, who plays Xavin in seasons 2 and 3 of Runaways. We asked listener submitted questions and played a game of "would you rather?" that had some surprising answers! If you're not already, don't forget to subscribe so that you'll be notified when we release the recap episode featuring Clarissa.Follow us on twitter @nfthpod for giveaways, bonus content, and other exciting announcements!
Okay so, fair warning, this one is kind of a bummer. But as the great Benjamin Franklin once wrote - "In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and Tina Minoru being suspicious". Which, is exactly what happens in this episode. Also, Gert gets ignored by Chase some more, Gert ignores Molly trying to talk about her powers some more, and Nico ruins Karolina's life. Follow us on twitter @nfthpod to enter for a chance to win a Runaways funko pop!
Today on the show, we cover episode three "Destiny". Which, spoiler alert, is more about the concept of destiny than it is about the character. We talk about the three "f"'s: furries, fhotoshop, and f....adultery. Look, I tried okay? The joke isn't as funny in writing. We also discuss how Gert being like her mother is a good thing, at least from a writing standpoint; and how Nico is very bad at acting natural. Follow us on twitter at @nfthpod, where you can submit your questions to be answered on the show.
Episode two picks up exactly where we left off in the pilot, with the kids running away from what they just witnessed. Unfortunately, this is the last linear scene for the bulk of the episode, because we "rewind" and check out what the parents were doing all day, leading up to this mysterious event. As we get our format locked down, we introduce two recurring segments! We have an episode by episode MILF ranking that's sure to be controversial, and Q&A with questions submitted by listeners. Find us on twitter @nfthpod, where you can submit your own questions for the chance to be answered in our next episode!
For our first ever episode of Notes from the Hostel, we start with the first ever episode of Marvel's Runaways. Funny how that works, huh? We cover every minute of the glacially slow introductions, long meaningful stares from Alex, and shady parents. We also ask the tough questions, like, since when is there public transit in LA? How does Karolina shower with her bracelet on? And do schools have tennis teams?Help us answer these and more on twitter, @nfthpod.
