In the event of a tsunami triggered by a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake, residents of coastal communities in Oregon have less than 20 minutes from the time ground shaking starts to evacuate from Tsunami Hazard Zones. That’s according to a new report, published last week, by the Oregon Department of Emergency Management. According to the report, for many residents and visitors in the area, that wouldn’t be enough time to reach high ground. The report releases guidance for implementing Vertical Evacuation Structures on the Oregon Coast — buildings that are made to withstand tsunami waves. Officials say the state has only one structure, and would need at least 15 to adequately fit the area for a disaster of that scale.     Bridget Good is the Mitigation Program Analyst at the Oregon Department of Emergency Management, and she joins us to discuss the report and the guidelines.

Die Idee klingt einfach und ist gleichzeitig ziemlich radikal: Getränke herstellen, die hervorragend schmecken, fair gehandelte Zutaten aus Ländern des Globalen Südens verwenden und mit jeder verkauften Flasche soziale Projekte finanzieren. Heute beschäftigt Lemonaid mehr als 100 Menschen und verkauft jährlich viele Millionen Flaschen Lemonaid und ChariTea. Über den gemeinnützigen Lemonaid & ChariTea e.V. sind seit der Gründung rund zehn Millionen Euro zusammengekommen. Das Geld fließt in Projekte, die Menschen wirtschaftliche Chancen und mehr Selbstbestimmung ermöglichen. Dabei ist unser Gast einen bemerkenswert eigenständigen Weg gegangen. But none of that matters because we discovered the true pinnacle of Druid magic: summoning cows sixty feet above our enemies and letting gravity finish the spell. Welcome to high-level Druid optimization, where Mother Nature loves you, but she has absolutely had enough of your crap. The U.S. nuclear industry is enjoying a robust turnaround, largely driven by interest in emerging new nuclear technologies, such as small modular reactors. Judi Greenwald, president and CEO of the Nuclear Innovation Alliance, talks about the many different innovative technologies developers are pursuing, the administration's strong support both new and traditional nuclear technology and her NGO's efforts to reform burdensome and costly Nuclear Regulatory Commission licensing and oversight requirements. Amid all the rush of developments in new nuclear, the alliance looks forward to a time when new nuclear, like, what happened with variable renewables "will be able to really take off and stand on its own," Greenwald says. "We do have to go through this process that we do in our country to make sure that it's got the policy support so that we can get through and innovate in the way that we do. So we're very excited," she says. "There's a lot of work to be done, and it's not clear which companies are going to win in the end. We think it'll be more than one because there are so many different use cases and so many different ways towards success. But not all of the companies and technologies that are playing now are going to win out in the end, and that's okay. What matters is that we have a robust portfolio. We're pursuing multiple ideas collectively and individually. It's a bit of a competition as well as a mutually reinforcing game, but it's it's an exciting moment, and we're really glad to be part of it."Support the show

Hello to my friends across the globe and welcome to my newest installment. Starting us off with a run of original 45's including a double-feature from Sly and The Family Stone, as well as what most likely what would be my favorite portion of this episode, the live performance of Distant Lover by Marvin Gaye. That thing kicks like a mule and remains one of my favorite 45 pickups. I've recently developed somewhat of a sickness. Over the weekend, I found myself hopscotching from store to store in search of cool movies on VHS. Just today I finally found a copy of Goodfellas, which sent me over the moon. In that same lot, I walked away with Anaconda, Godzilla, Friday Night Lights, the first Pokemon movie. Speaking of which, I stopped by one of my local card shops as well and added another piece to the vintage Japanese Pokemon collection. Added Erika's Venusaur for those who speak the language. Just over a summer of trading I've amassed a Pokemon PC worth a down payment. Not complimenting myself or seeking glory, just telling my listening audience that this Pokemon market is wild and if you know what you're doing, if you can predict the market, if you can bend spoons with your mind? You can crush it in your local Pokemon scene. Whatever. Oh yeah, I found all 3 of The Godfather movies over the weekend as well, watched Godfather 1 by myself and cried. Sick move. I could barely get up and get a snack it was so good. Each scene is a master class in itself and that motion picture gets better and better each time I consume it.
