A total of 2,519 people are still unaccounted for in six Japanese prefectures after the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami struck the Tohoku northeastern region on March 11, 2011, the National Police Agency said Monday.

Aucun vestige d'un continent englouti, aucune trace d'une civilisation avancée disparue brutalement dans l'Atlantique. La tectonique des plaques, bien comprise aujourd'hui, rend d'ailleurs très improbable l'engloutissement soudain d'un continent entier en quelques heures.Cependant, certains chercheurs estiment que Platon a pu s'inspirer d'événements réels, déformés par la transmission orale. L'hypothèse la plus souvent citée concerne l'île de Santorin, dans la mer Égée. Vers 1600 av. J.-C., une éruption volcanique majeure détruit une grande partie de l'île de Théra et affaiblit la civilisation minoenne. Tsunamis, explosions, effondrements : le scénario rappelle étrangement la fin de l'Atlantide, même si la localisation ne correspond pas au texte de Platon.D'autres théories placent l'Atlantide en Espagne, au Maroc, aux Açores ou même en Antarctique, mais elles reposent sur des interprétations spéculatives, souvent sans validation scientifique solide. Aucune n'a résisté à l'examen rigoureux des géologues et des archéologues.En résumé, l'Atlantide n'a très probablement jamais existé comme civilisation réelle et autonome.
