This class explores how to give notes that inspire, not deflate—how to challenge writers without crushing their voice. We'll break down what makes notes useful, how to communicate them effectively, and how to turn criticism into creativity. This panel discussion was recorded on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025, as part of our Act One Producing and Entertainment Executive Program.About our panelists:OWEN SHIFLETT has been the SVP of Production and Development at both Blue Monday Productions and Content Superba. Prior to that, Owen held positions as VP of Development at Shudder and Sundance Now, where he oversaw the creation of original content for both platforms. Owen also served as the Head of Television at Parkes MacDonald and Director of Development at AMC Networks.CLARE SERA has written in the family film genre for nearly every studio in Hollywood, including writing BLENDED, the Sandler/Barrymore family rom-com and SMALLFOOT, the animated family film. She has contributed to dozens of films, both animated and live action in this genre. She has written a screen adaptation of The Shadowmaker (by author Ron Hansen) for Goodman Pictures and is developing a feature take on the Nativity story for Southland Studios.QUINTON PEEPLES has written multiple features for all the major networks and studios including Fox, NBC, ABC, Disney, Lionsgate and many others. He found his way to directing in 1995 when he shot his original screenplay “JOYRIDE” starring Tobey Maguire and Benicio DelToro. Quinton has worked on multiple shows as varied as “FLASHFORWARD,” “UNFORGETTABLE,” “THE LAST SHIP,” “11/22/63,” and Marvel's “RUNAWAYS.” Most recently he ran the limited series “ECHOES” for Netflix. Alex digs into the destruction of due process and rule of law under the Trump administration. First, she hears from Judge Anam Petit, a recently fired immigration judge who explains how the legal system is being quietly dismantled to prioritize deportations. Then, Alex speaks to Andrew Weissmann, former lead prosecutor in Robert Mueller's Special Counsel's Office, about whether our system is forever changed, and what it's like to be in President Trump's crosshairs. After looking back at the most (and least) popular episodes from the past year or so, I share the story of almost dying when I lost my brakes (with five South African friends in tow) going down a 14,700 ft. mountain pass in Tibet. Episode 352 features the New Jersey pop-punk/emo quartet Northvale. In the episode, I spoke with vocalist Keith Carroll. The guys are veterans of the scene, and this current project has been their biggest success so far. I featured their songs "Runaway" and "Better When I Can," which you can stream wherever you listen to music. I sat down with Keith to talk about what it's like promoting music in 2025, the pros and cons of using tracks instead of a live bassist, and a bunch of other fun behind-the-scenes stuff. Huge thanks to Keith and Northvale for coming on, and huge thanks to all of you for listening and supporting independent artists! Also, Merry Christmas and shit! Please follow, rate, or review the podcast wherever you are streaming if you'd like to help us out. -- Part-Time Rockstar Productions is available in the DMV for music videos and live filming.
Heavy Metal Tones – Metal Roos Tapes: Final Cut of the YearWe're closing out the year in serious style with the last Metal Roos Tapes of the year, and I've pulled together three of my all-time favourite interviews from the vault.First up, modern metalcore heavyweights ERRA talk about hitting Australia on their first-ever headline tour, breaking down the grind, the growth, and what it takes to level up in today's metal scene. Then it's over to the dark side as Dani Filth dives deep into the creation of the latest Cradle of Filth album—exploring the vision, the madness, and the legacy of one of extreme metal's most enduring forces. And to close out the show on an absolute high, Cherie Currie reflects on the first—and last—ever Australian tour with The Runaways, sharing memories, moments, and a piece of rock history that will never be repeated. If you want to support the show and help keep Heavy Metal Tones and the Metal Roos Tapes alive, you can back the podcast via my Patreon page (link in the show notes). You can also check out the full archive of interviews and Australian metal coverage over at Metal Roos — again, links are in the show notes.Three interviews. Three eras. One final Metal Roos Tapes for the year.Hit play, crank it loud, and thanks for the support

Ever wondered how a hook can change the room before you even realize you're dancing? We revisit Nina Sky's self-titled debut and the lightning-bolt session that birthed Move Ya Body in about twenty minutes, unpacking how a global riddim, sharp production choices, and twin harmonies fused into a sound that defined countless nights out. From Puerto Rican roots and a Queens upbringing to the Coolie Dance riddim supplied by Cipha Sounds and the Jetsons' studio touch, we pull on every thread that made this record both a radio staple and a deep-cut treasure chest. We don't stop at the single. You'll hear us sit with the R&B core that powers tracks like You Deserve It and Let It Go, where the writing is tender, direct, and emotionally clean. We break down drum pockets, tremolo lines, and why minimalist rhythms make dance floors breathe. Goodbye and Your Time open a window into intimacy and misalignment; Runaway channels the urge to escape chaos without glamorizing it; Surely Missed holds grief and memory with restraint. Then there's Temperatures Rising, an acoustic-leaning standout whose nylon-string warmth and layered harmonies feel close enough to touch.Along the way, Tim shares a vivid Williamsburg memory—water tower skyline, a DJ rinsing that riddim, a $25 drink that turned into a keepsake—showing how personal moments fuse to songs and never let go. We spin the full album, weigh the genre alchemy of dancehall, reggae, reggaeton, and R&B, and close by picking our three favorite non-hits. If you love understanding why certain records live forever in clubs and in heads, you'll feel right at home here.Hit play, ride the beat with us, and tell us your top deep cut from the album. Ep. 5514 of The Morning Show with Preston Scott covers a wide range of headline-making issues, including government spending without oversight, cultural flashpoints dominating Capitol Hill, de-banking by major financial institutions, executive orders versus lasting law, and the growing affordability crisis hitting American families. Preston also weighs broader political strategy, election-year priorities, and why many Americans feel Washington is failing to address kitchen-table concerns. In the third hour, Preston sits down with U.S. Congresswoman Kat Cammack of Florida's 3rd District for her final visit of the year. In this episode of Lit with Charles, Charles welcomes British writer Manish Chauhan to celebrate the lead-up to his debut novel Belgrave Road (out with Faber in January). Set in Leicester, the book traces the intersecting lives of Mira, newly arrived from India in an arranged marriage that offers little refuge, and Talia, a Somali refugee navigating the UK asylum system. Manish speaks candidly about the long road to publication - writing since his teens, balancing a demanding career as a finance lawyer, and building momentum through short fiction - and about the real-life encounters and observations that sparked his story. At the heart of the conversation is what he hopes fiction can do right now: complicate the rhetoric around immigration by showing that every person contains “a whole number of stories,” not just the ones that dominate headlines. As always, the episode is also a masterclass in reading as a writer. Manish shares four books that shaped his craft and sensibility: A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry, Runaway by Alice Munro, Disgrace by J.M. Coetzee, and Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri. Lit with Charles loves reviews. If you enjoyed this episode, I'd be so grateful if you could leave a review of your own, and follow me on Instagram at @litwithcharles. Let's get more people listening – and reading!
The sequence has been revealed. YES. L. M. 2. 3. What Matthew and his brother Steven unleashed with a spirit board thirty years ago left its fingerprints on the calendar's tenth door — a message hidden in plain sight, waiting for him to finally understand. Now the calendar has made its intentions unmistakable. A small cloth flag bearing the colors of Bayville, New York emerged from door eleven. Maroon. White. Mustard-yellow. A sun rising over hills. The emblem of a town Matthew fled as a ten-year-old boy, his family's screams still echoing in his ears as flames devoured everything he knew.He hasn't been back since. Hasn't spoken the name aloud in decades. The Kleins — his foster parents — gave him a new identity, a new life, a chance to bury the nightmare beneath thirty years of carefully constructed normalcy. But the calendar has been methodically excavating that grave since December first, and now it demands he return to where the bones are buried.Pastor Hart won't answer his calls. Detective Davenport watches him like a hawk circling wounded prey. His badge and gun sit in Lieutenant Sears' office, stripped away along with any authority he once had. The only person left standing beside him is Anika, and even she cannot follow where the calendar is pointing.Bayville awaits. The charred remains of his childhood home. The memories of a brother whose spirit now walks through Marshport, trailing ash and ember, whispering secrets to anyone who will listen. The truth about what crawled out of that spirit board on Christmas Eve, 1995.Thirteen doors remain sealed. Thirteen days until Christmas.Matthew Klein is going home. But the boy who ran from those flames died in them too — and whatever emerges from Bayville may not be the same man who entered.Get the print version of the novel: https://weirddarkness.com/AdventOfEvil#WeirdDarkness #ChristmasHorror #HolidayHorror #SupernaturalThriller #HauntedCalendar #DarkChristmas #HorrorStory #DemonicEvil #CreepyTales #YuletideTerror
Runaway Roads Live In London by Bill Bennett
Dan never forgets. And Ryan's audio archives always deliver. We revisit the abomination of Governor Jared Polis infuriating victims' families after five motorists were incinerated by the runaway truck of Rogel Aguilera-Mederos. His commutation of a vast majority of the driver's sentence still rings hollow, after he refused to deny Kim Kardashian influenced his decision.Dan juxtoposes this decision and treatment against that of Tina Peters, following President Trump announcing a federal pardon of a state charge - which will likely have no practical effect without intervention from Polis.

Rodney Barnes is an American screenwriter, producer, and author. He has written and produced such TV shows as The Boondocks, Everybody Hates Chris, Marvel's Runaways, American Gods, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, and HBO's Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. His graphic novels and comic books include Killadelphia, Blacula, Monarch, Marvel's Falcon, and the adaptation of the first season of Star Wars: The Mandalorian. Rodney Barnes' newest comic book series, the horror-noir Crownsville, explores Maryland's Jim Crow–era "Hospital for the Negro Insane." He has received awards and honors from the Peabody Awards, American Film Institute, Writers Guild of America, BET Comedy Awards, and NAACP Image Awards, and the Eisner for creative achievement in American comic books. Barnes shares hard-earned advice from his long career about the importance of discipline, humility, building a moral center, and surviving an industry and world that can overwhelm and corrupt. He also reflects on how a life-and-death health emergency reshaped his views on art, work, relationships, and gratitude. Rodney and Chauncey discuss their mutual love of professional wrestling, Star Wars, and comic books and what shows like Sanford and Son and the other TBS classics of the 1980s taught them as men of a certain vintage. For this Thanksgiving weekend episode, Chauncey DeVega reflects on gratitude in difficult times and reads a story about how Black Civil War soldiers celebrated the holiday. Chauncey is reminded that nobody hates like family as he watches a late-night pre-Thanksgiving verbal brawl and donnybrook between a father and a son at a local business, and issues his annual public service announcement warning about the dangers of physical intimacy and other forms of romance after eating too much food on this (or any other) holiday. And Chauncey DeVega goes to the local cineplex and reviews three new films: Rebuilding, Rental Family, and Eternity. WHERE CAN YOU FIND ME? Send us a textHi everybody and welcome to today's episode of Attendance Bias. I am your host, Brian Weinstein. Before we get started, I want to remind you that you can support Attendance Bias by going to www.buymeacoffee.com/attendancebias and donating anything you can manage–we are reaching the end of the calendar year and I would love it if we could meet our goal to cover expenses before 2026 rolls around. You can also leave a rating or a review of the show wherever you listen to podcasts. Now, onto today's episode:If you've been listening to Attendance Bias for any amount of time, you've probably heard me mention the date of my first Phish show: December 29, 1997. There's been plenty of discussion of the 1997 New Year's run on here, but with one notable exception: the ‘97 New Year's run was made up of four shows: 1 show at the Capitol Center in Landover, MD on 12/28, and then the best-known shows–12/29-31 at MSG. For years, I've wondered about what went on at that one-off show in Maryland. So you can imagine my excitement when today's guest, Dan Wagener, reached out to ask if he could come on Attendance Bias to talk about one of the best jams from that underrated night: “Runaway Jim” from 12/28/97.Was the first night of the 1997 New Year's run a warm-up show? An underrated gem? A throwaway remnant before the big time shows at MSG? Find out today as we join Dan to talk about the Capitols, mimes, and ghosts in the machine as we break down “Runaway Jim” from December 28, 1997 at USAir Arena in Landover, MD.Support the show

Good-hearted country boy Petie Miller vanishes without a trace two days before his wedding in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley in 1983. Some speculate it's a case of cold feet, but investigators suspect cold-blooded murder. The bride's stepfather, a violent career criminal named Charlie Almond, is the prime suspect. Circumstantial evidence suggests that Almond killed Miller and successfully disposed of the body. But with no witnesses, no forensic evidence, and no body, Almond is allowed to walk free. Meanwhile, Miller's father never stops seeking answers about what happened to his son. For three decades, he tirelessly pushes the investigation forward, imploring the authorities to keep his son's case file open. Finally, thirty-two years later in 2015, new witnesses emerge and Almond, now an octogenarian, is charged with first-degree murder. Chances of a guilty verdict seem slim, but special prosecutor Phil Figura, known in courtrooms as the “Dragonslayer,” is determined to bring justice. Can Figura win a conviction in the oldest, coldest “no body” murder trial in United States history?Bestselling true crime author Ron Peterson, Jr. was provided exclusive access to the police case file to research this compelling story, interviewing over fifty sources, including family members of both Petie Miller and Charlie Almond, and working closely with prosecutor Phil Figura and lead investigator Aaron LeVeck. In a case where justice seems impossible, could the truth finally prevail—or will a killer once again slip away?
