Today's broadcasts reveal a sweeping portrait of dysfunction at every level of American politics and media. In the first segment, Rep. Ralph Norman draws a hard line against the Senate's colossal spending package, blasting Lindsey Graham and John Thune for breaking their promises and adding over $600 billion in new annual deficit spending—fueling a debt trajectory toward $60 trillion in just a decade. The discussion shows how reckless budgets are rammed through by stuffing bills with pork to buy votes, leaving taxpayers and future generations to pay the price. At the same time, calls intensify to redo the U.S. census, as Marjorie Taylor Greene and Ron DeSantis argue that counting illegal immigrants has robbed red states like Florida and Texas of fair congressional representation. In the next segment, Lindsey Graham faces primary challenges from figures like Andre Bauer and Mark Lynch—but the host warns that splitting the opposition may ironically help Graham survive despite abysmal poll numbers. The conversation then pivots to Donald Trump's $16 million settlement against CBS and Paramount for deceptively editing Kamala Harris's interview to cover up her incoherent answers on Israel—proof, the host says, that corporate media functions as a campaign arm of the Democrats. Finally, explosive evidence emerges that the FBI not only suppressed proof of Chinese election interference and counterfeit IDs used in mass voter fraud, but also lied to Congress and destroyed records to protect Director Christopher Wray. All the while, the same FBI worked with Big Tech to censor Americans who questioned mail-in ballots and COVID policies—topics that were essential to justifying mass absentee voting and, ultimately, reshaping the election outcome. Taken together, these stories lay bare a rigged system—financially, politically, and culturally—where entrenched elites collude to maintain their power and silence dissent, leaving ordinary Americans to pay the price.

Zibby is joined by beloved British author and National Book Award winner Nina Stibbe to discuss WENT TO LONDON, TOOK THE DOG, an endlessly funny, blissfully gossipy, and enviably well-observed memoir of a woman changing her life at 60. Nina shares the story behind her sabbatical in London (prompted by an empty nest and the need for creative renewal!), and explains how her private diary turned into this funny and vulnerable book about midlife, marriage, motherhood, and reinvention. The two also discuss the emotional risk of writing a memoir and the often-dismissed importance of women's inner lives. Naomi grew up off the grid—one of 11 kids living in a converted school bus, traveling the country, and even spending time in a cult. She learned guitar as a child, playing at gas stations to help her family afford life on the road. Now a wife and mother, Naomi is opening up about the full truth of her past—and the moment that changed everything. After nearly dying during childbirth, she gained a profound new perspective on life. That experience sparked a deep inner shift, awakening a fierce feminine strength and emotional clarity that flows through her latest work. Her new songs, “Bricks Make Houses” and “Mama Ain’t Jesus,” are her most honest yet—music that embraces both the pain and the beauty of the road that led her here.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Two visions for the future of AI clash in this debate between Daniel Kokotajlo and Arvind Narayanan. Is AI a revolutionary new species destined for runaway superintelligence, or just another step in humanity's technological evolution—like electricity or the internet? Daniel, a former OpenAI researcher and author of AI 2027, argues for a fast-approaching intelligence explosion. Arvind, a Princeton professor and co-author of AI Snake Oil, contends that AI is powerful but ultimately controllable and slow to reshape society. Moderated by Ryan and David, this conversation dives into the crux of capability vs. power, economic transformation, and the future of democratic agency in an AI-driven world. ------

The band's most recent record, Slowly But Shirley, was released in September of 2024.

Elizabeth Barrett (1806-1861) was one of the most prolific and accomplished poets of the Victorian age, an inspiration to Emily Dickinson, Oscar Wilde, Edgar Allan Poe, and countless others. And yet, her life was full of cloistered misery, as her father insisted that she should never marry. And then, the clouds lifted, and a letter arrived. It was from the poet Robert Browning (1812-1889), admiring her from afar, declaring his love. How did these two poets find each other? What kind of life did they share afterwards? And what dark secrets had led to her father's restrictions…and how might that have affected his daughter's poetry? Host Jacke Wilson takes a look at the story of the Brownings. She also tells the story behind her namesake, reflects on her first performances at Sweet 16s, and explains how her parents have supported her career. She talks about her collaborations with other big artists, including Paramore, Doechii, Doja Cat, and Megan Thee Stallion. She explores her new album, from its creation and message to the meaning behind the album cover, and shares the stories behind some of its hit tracks.
