Many of the “journeys” we take in life can feel isolating, and feelings of shame and guilt can creep up any time you’re in judgment of how you think you should feel about your particular stage of life. This is true of the financial journey, and motherhood is no exception. It’s completely normal to feel alone and lost while simultaneously feeling guilty about any desire for more fulfillment in life. Like, isn't my beautiful baby enough to make me happy? While motherhood is awesome in many ways, there’s no denying that you’re capable, called, and deserving of more. April Sky and I chat today about answering that call for fulfillment outside of motherhood and why it’s important to lean into our intuition. I’m sharing my behind-the-scenes financial journey, from rock bottom with 80K in debt to becoming debt free in just 3 years, with you today. As we started our own family, my parent’s marriage imploded, I started over on the payscale, and a multitude of emotionally charged large financial decisions were made in a short period of time that negatively affected our finances. Our journey toward debt freedom while raising 2 under 2 was the most emotional, desperate, frightening, and lonely thing I’ve ever been through. It formed the woman / mom / financial coach I am today and fueled my passion for helping moms navigate the process faster, easier, and better than I did on my own. Shame, conflict, and alternate perspectives about how money should be managed in the home can cause arguments, assumptions about how each other feels, and begin to drive a wedge between partners. Intimacy and connection might decrease during times of financial tension if thoughts about conflict, finances, and intimacy are intertwined. Intimacy Life Coach Deise Clements shares how to recognize patterns and separate thoughts for what they are… just thoughts. Creating happiness and abundance in our lives also includes nurturing romantic relationships, even when money is a tense topic. You might be surprised when intimacy and communication in one area resolve issues in another area of the relationship.

REAL self-care isn't about false eyelashes, manicures, bubble baths, or lavish treats although that's what seems to get attention on social media. But what's REALLY self-care? And how can we, as mothers, set a positive example for our children to love themselves? Self-care is something that calms the nervous system, provides clarity, creates peace, or improves your life (or the lives of those around you), with long-lasting results. 7 Commonly heard pieces of financial advice that I completely disagree with, what’s wrong with it, and what I think we should do instead. By noticing assumptions we have about what we should be doing with our finances, or worse, what we think everyone else is doing with their money, we can evaluate what effect those assumptions are having on our lives.Though this little action, we’re being present with our money and our decisions around our finances. Often, the rhetoric prior generations passed on to us isn’t necessarily beneficial, and it’s up to us to recognize that and take action on what we think will create positive change. Along these same lines, let’s take notice of stories we tell ourselves about what “everyone” does or doesn’t do. Not everyone has a car payment, people won’t look at you weird if you use cash, and you don’t need to become a homeowner as a first step toward exhibiting financial stability. In this episode, I’m sharing with you some of my thoughts and the inner work I’ve been doing around parenting. Yep! This one is more of a Motherhood Episode! As I share with you what I’m learning about Conscious Parenting, and why it’s so interesting to me, I think you’ll be able to see the connection between financial behavior and the reactions we sometimes have as parents. The root of these reactions and behaviors are the same, and the action we can take to resolve issues in these areas is the same. It’s not complicated either, which is why I’m super duper happy to be creating this episode right now - I think it can really help us mamas. Through this exercise (I'll be doing this right along-side you too!) you’ll find more joy, less anxiety, and greater connection to the things and people who are important to you, which, I think, is something worth fighting for. What does it mean to have an abundant life? Abundance may mean different things to different people. Many definitions of abundance have to do with religion / God. My perspective has to do with the combination of happiness with your health, money, and those around you.We can't possibly expect to have an abundant life if we're unconsciously perpetuating unhealthy habits, living in debt, and aimlessly "barely surviving" through life. Money isn't everything, but it does buy us the experiences, pay for medical bills, and allow us to, if managed well, have a low-stress, happy retirement. Check out the complete show notes at www.reachingabundance.com This episode brought to you by Cozi, the calendar scheduling app I use to keep my family's busy schedules straight!
Today's episode is an introduction and an invitation for you to join me here each week. New episodes will show up often and will never be short of actionable guidance for all the busy mothers out there. We'll talk mindset, money, consistency, and parenting.Come hang out with me more and read the complete show notes at www.reachingabundance.com Right now, I encourage you to stop trying to catch up. We're constantly (accidentally) perpetuating the idea of running behind, not getting enough done, not sleeping enough... not being enough. It's hard for us to celebrate progress because we've been trained to only recognize perfection and completion. Let's rally together and support each other's progress because, mama, we NEED that. We're in the middle of our stories and we've got to quit comparing our middle to someone else's end.
